DDR voltage for Diamond plus

Corsair says mem. voltage sholud be 2.75 volts but bios auto detects it at 2.6. Went to cell menu under select ddr voltage and hit enter but no sub menu comes up?? So how can i change the voltage???

Quote from: Wangmonkey on 19-March-06, 09:28:03
2.6 is the default Mem voltage.  There is a OC Diamond bios with more headroom on Mem Voltage along with some additional things.  Sorry dont have the link but you should be able to find it in the Diamond Forum.
he's talking about diamond plus. afaik diamond plus bios lets you set the memory voltage up to 3.4V. corsairs are know to have a problem with the mobo, since their spd settings are not read correctly. that's why you have to manually set the voltages to the ones recommended on the corsair site.

  • 4 ddr's on diamond plus

I currently have 4 pcs (2gb) GeIL Value Dual Channel PC3200 400MHz DDR on my diamond plus with a HEC WinPower 550. It's showing only 333mhz instead of 400mhz. I read on the manual that installing 4 dual channel ddr's will be limited to this frequency. Is there a way to make it 400mhz?

Quote from: Stick on 21-April-06, 21:32:54
Bas, read what it says right at the beginning of that paragraph.
if you go by what that table says, you cannot run 2 double sided modules in slots 1 & 3 (single channel - 64 bit) at 333 MHz at 1T, only at 2T, which you may find out that it's completely false with the MSI, since you can actually run them at 400, even on my winchester, which is an old revision.
i don't know if the memory paging needs to be enabled from BIOS in order to run 4 DS modules at 400 and 2T, but you can easily find if that's the case or not. And again, since it works for Roger, you cannot say that it doesn't work, or you'll call Roger a liar and hurt his feelings
    Hi Stick,
I'm not saying it won't work, neither does AMD....
It only says that they have found to work all the time.
Basicaly it means, you could be very lucky it will do it
Some may do it, others may fail, ergo it's a lottery.
In any case, I find it hard to believe that 4 dual-sided sticks will run at DDR400, even with 2T.
4 single-sided sticks? Yes I do believe that can be done.
But like I said, I'm guessing here, as AMD isn't supporting it.
However, very unsure about this, I do believe you CAN do it with Registered memory, but then you need to use a board that does support Registered memory settings, again, guessing on my part.

  • New BIOS for Diamond Plus any problem noted yet.

Anybody using the new BIOS for the Diamond Plus Version 3.09 BIOS.
I have got it installed and upgrade went will, but be ready for changes.  Go over you BIOS Setting each and every parameter, because they have changed a lot of the defaults, like all Network controllers are disabled by default.  The have made changes to the Hyper Transport Defaults setting they are what they should have been in the first place.
Marvel Yukon network controller drivers of old will not will not load and MSI USA download for the driver is off line. Tw site is not down but not taking new requests for the drive because of traffic load.  Old nVidia network drives loaded after I enabled on board LAN on in the BIOS.
That, all I have checked out so far, Oh yes the changes in Memory BIOS setting, but have not been able to check all of the out.  If some one with experience with memory BIOS settings could check them out and give report back it would be helpful.
We asked for it now we got it, for better or worse.

Wow, funny how 2 gigs still needs a paging file with a standard desk top!
Of course, even funnier just how fast 2 gigs can be eat'n up with 3d rendering and audio/video encoding!
Just blowing my mind, remember when 32meg RAM was considered over kill?
    Ah those 3.1 days
that's not a bios issue it is a xp home and xp pro 32 bit issue.
if you want 4 gigs you need a 64 bit OS like server 2003 or xp pro 64 bit.
Yes it will run in dual channel but due to limitations you will have it run in ddr 333 *UNLESS* you have single sided 1 gig sticks.
Even with 4 gigs you will see slightly less than 4 gigs in bios, as a portion is Used there. once in windows you will see the full 4 gigs.
btw I am on my old P4 3.0e prescott as i sent in my two 7800gt's for the step up program.
They should be here by the 31st.
For what it is worth I have had 4 gigs working on this mb and cpu using ms's free dl of their 64 bit os.
It took me for ever to figure out why i was only getting 333 ddr and 3.5 gigs. this was 18 months ago.
When i ran a dual boot of the xp hom and xp 64 with 4 gigs, i did not see the support from my prefered software vendors.  So i sent back 2 gigs, and stuck with xp home. Now that i have the new amd i stepped up to xp pro 64 bit and love it.

  • MOVED: MSI TECHNICAL - URGENTLY NEED NEW BIOS FOR DIAMOND PLUS MOBO

This topic has been moved to BIOS.
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=93688.0

We are having a issue here with the Nvidia raid changing the raid from raid 0 to raid 2 all by it's self. This has happend twice now on the Diamon Plus board. We have tried all kinds of drives. Sata 1 Sata 2 from 4 companys with no change. We are also having the op system Windows give errors that I have never seen in 20 years of building computers .
We have contacted tech support by phone and they have been great trying to help us , but to no good out come. Tech support told us here at the shop that this is an issue that they are working on and trying to find a fix.
This board is a great gamer board if you can find a build of parts that it is stable with, but if not it is a on going problem.
We are also getting the boot error on the Raid that you are on some systems that we build.
I will say again that MSI tech support has been great in working with us on this, And we are also starting to see errors on systems that we put out with the Diamond Plus when the first came out for use. Systems that have been stable for about two months are starting to come back with issues with the drives and that is strange as one would think it would stay stable after this long running.
But in looking back on what has happend , all the issues seem to be due to the Harddrives or Drive controlers.  Now that could encompass the buss or buss controler and or many other factors. But we do think the problem is with one of these.
I use the diamond plus for my own gaming system, and it is fast. I love it and the changes I can make in the bios. But I cannot use the raid on the board . I have tired and it was not stable , and after two reloads I went to a fast 300 gig single sata drive. After that I have had no issues at all. And with this drive I am running as fast as I did with the raid. I would recomend that others take this route till a fix is found.

  • Heatsinks for Diamond Plus

    Hello,
I'm looking at upgrading my stock HSF to a better one.  I'm wondering between these 3 fans:
    Thermalright XP-120
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16835109118R
    Thermalright SI-120
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16835109123
    Zalman 9500 LED
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16835118223
Are there any problems installing these 3 on the Diamond Plus and which one would you guys recommend?
    Which cools better?
    Thanks for your input

With the xp-120, you "might" have problems and you "might" not.  The si-120 was created to remove any doubt so if your deciding between those 2, the si-120 is your choice.  It sits high enough not to even have a chance to interfere with any on-board components.
I've heard that the Zalman needs a little Dremel work to fit with this board.
Heres a thread on nothing but cooling solutions for the K8N Diamond Plus.
    http://forums.pcper.com/showthread.php?t=415145
There is mostly a lot of talk about the Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro 64, but if you look through I do believe they mention the Zalman and the Thermalrights enough for you to get an idea.  iirc, the Zalman and dremel comment is toward the last half of that thread.  I didn't have time to read it all again before I gave the link.

  • Help needed for Diamond PLus

I jost got the board yesterday. Tried on board SB sound card. Found that the microphone recording volume was way too low. Yes I turned on +20db boost (without the boost the mic is almost like muted) and pulled the volume slide to highest positions. But still I have to put the mic very close to my mouth, almost into my mouth to get voice go into my computer.  I tried driver in CD, driver from MSI website and driver from Creative site, all the same.  I also tried different mics, still no change. Anyone has the same issue or has any solutions?  I'll be very grateful.
Other 2 minor issues (maybe not the issue), my NB temp is aroung 50C (47, 48) when idle, is that normal?  My +5V voltage read from Corecenter is +5.33, that is 6% more!  But same PSU on other boards, it was read less than 1%. BTW, my PSU is OCZ Modstream 450.

    Guys, thanks for the reply.
To meta_sin: No, I am not running SLI. I only have 1 eVga 7800GT installed. Did you read the degree number of your NB?
To Stick: Which part is the bracket you mentioned? Is it on the up side or back side of MB? About that mic, I just bought another mic headset, little better, at least my friends can hear me when doing online chatting. But still I think this on-board sound card has lower recording volume than averge.
Another weird thing. If during power up, by pressing DEL to get into BIOS setting, then from health status, I can see the CPU temp is about 40C. But after get into OS and read from Core Center, the CPU temp actually dropped to around 35C.  Or maybe Core Center just reads the CPU temp ,   deducts couple of degrees then shows it to you?

  • Nforce Drivers for Diamond Plus

Anyone use the new nvidia chipset drivers (6.86whql) yet??
    Any opnions??

    Hello !!
I am using them and have no problems with them....
But they are not faster than 6.85, they contain only minor bugfixes.
Its very important to deinstall all nforce drivers and the nvidia firewall, before installing this new drivers.
Otherwise the system will crash on bootup.

I have an SATA hard drive and if I uninstall the previous nForce drivers first then the system won't boot.  Are you supposed to reboot the machine before installing the new drivers?

  • MAX DDR Voltage

can i know the Max DDR Voltage for the MSI 875 and 865 series that can be supported ?

Well as you know the MAX that both of these boards can send to the Modules is Astronomical, But if you were to look up the MAX Voltages that the Different Mem. Manufacturers will Honor as far as Warranty is concerned.....You will find that on Avg. 3.1 Volts is the Limit for most Memory Modules....................Sean REILLY875

  • I need help DDR voltage and latencies (K8N Diamond Plus)

I noticed my DDR voltage was incorrect in the bios and I don't know what "Auto" is doing with my timings. I have 2GB of Corsair TWINX2048-3200C2 DDR400 Memory installed on DIMM1 and DIMM2 of my K8N Diamond Plus board.
So far I've made the following changes (as my RAM's specs indicate) in the BIOS but I'm new to this (first build).
    DDR Voltage 2.75V
    CAS  2.0
    tRCD 3
    tRP   3
    tRAS 6
I left everything else at it's default setting. Are there any other changes I should make?

I'm having an issue with the 1.10 BIOS that is preventing me from manualy setting the timings...The problem I'm having right now is deciding what BIOS to install and where to download it. Perhaps you could help me with that?
With pleasure!  I had the same problem with the v1.10 BIOS, as did another member here.  I flashed BACK to the v1.0 BIOS (make sure to use the command line switched (just run the batch file)) and was able to set timings, and then I flashed directly to the 3.0A BIOS and was able to adjust timings still.  See my old thread here.
For my success (I don't know if any or all of these influenced it, but I'm just happy it works) in flashing I did the following:
Download the 1.0 (original) and 3.0A (latest "official") BIOS images from MSI's support site.
Downloaded the DrDos BIOS flash bootable ISO CD image from bootdisk.com
Used my ISO software to add the BIOS image files onto the ISO image.
    Burned the ISO to CD.
    Booted from the CD
    Flashed to 1.0
Cut Power (flipped PSU switch in back), held down the CMOS reset switch button on the mobo and the power button for 45 seconds.
Powered up, set "Optimized Defaults" and set memory voltage to 2.75v and rebooted.
Set all "normal" BIOS parameters (boot devices, et al).
Windows (x64) loaded with no issues, Everest reported timings appropriately
Did the same procedure for the 3.0A BIOS, with similar success.

Are you running just one set of TWINX2048-3200C2's?
Just one pair.  I fiddled with the CR and the only result was with the single known good DIMM my latency got slightly slower (like a 5ns drop), but still no love with 2 DIMMS.  I think it is just dead.  But this is not my story (at least not in this thread)...this is memticvirus's story.

  • Best 2 gb kit of memory for a K8N Diamond Plus ?

I have the Diamond plus mainboard on its way, should be here Monday.  I just received Wednesday a 180 opteron and a 2 gb kit of Corsair XMS 3500LL pro.  I installed these in an Asus A8N SLI deluxe and have spent the last day trying to unsuccessfully install windows, only to find out one stick of the XMS is shot terribly, 7,776 errors in the first 10 minutes of Memtest86.
So needless to say these sticks are going back.  I have never in my years of building computers received memory in this bad of condition before,  and although an isolated case it could very well be I have a very bad taste in my mouth considering the 300$ price of these.
I would welcome recommendations on 2 gb kits that would be suitable for this board and processor, preferably low latencey,  doesn't have to be more than PC3200-3500 since I am not an extreme overclocker,  tighter timings on a lower FSB are more important to me since I have a larger processor. G-Skill, Patriot, Mushkin? what works best for this board/bios?
    thanks!

Grouse - I think you can increase your voltage to ram by moving the  jumper pins JV1 on the motherboard 1 - 2 to 2 - 3 which gives 3.1 volts and up. But by moving that jumper voids the warrenty of the motherboard. Well that's what the sticker on it says :(
Jumper is JV1 on the motherboard
    Select DDR Power Jumper: JV1
The DDR Power Jumper is used to boost the DDR power. The BIOS will auto

    have to complement each other.

  • Aftermarket HSF options for K8N Diamond Plus

Just built a new rig with the K8N Diamond Plus  and am very pleased with the board -- worked great from first power up and with a little BIOS tweaking I have no trouble getting a 50% overclock from my dual core Opteron 170.  No headaches at all, unlike my previous experiences with Abit boards.
The AMD heatsink fan unit (with heatpipes) provided with the 170 is not bad at all, but I'd like to replace it with a more capable unit, along the lines of the Zalman 9500, Scythe Ninja, Tuniq Tower 120, Thermalright XP-120, etc.  The tall heatsink of the Nvidia NB is close to the CPU socket and quite high, so I'm not sure if any of these will fit.  Anyone using one of these or similar heatsinks ?  Please let me know if they fit, or did not fit.
Since I could find any of the 7800GTX 512MB boards I wanted, I'm using a single MSI X1900XT card right now but plan to go SLI in the future with 7900GTX cards driving the 30" Dell monitor.  The ATI video board and nVidia mainboard surprisingly get along great, with no crashes so far and 3DMark06 scores above 6000 -- the X1900XT is an impressive piece, and much faster than the X800XT-PE I had in my previous computer.  But the fan can be extremely loud and the Catalyst Control Center sucks.  Unfortunately the old ATI control panel is no longer offered...

    TimeReaper,
The problems your are talking about are not uncommon with this MS-7220.  The BIOS Clear Circuit physically has problems and that is not something they are going fix with a BIOS upgrade.
The BIOS Clear Circuit actually trashing the values stored in the CMOS by not doing a complete clearing of the CMOS is causing the problem.  What leaves trash for parameters, for the BIOS to use when rebooting.
Let give you an example that fits your case.  You can set the BIOS to turn the system on at any give time and date.  So, if the trash in CMOS is in those parameters storage location.  Therefore, whatever trash value gets stored in the locations, as a dated and time, will turn the computer on at that time.  So, you could of had the computer come on in the meddle of the night two week later.  Now, think of all the functions the BIOS have and how many weird things people are having and do not know why.  There is one guy that is a regular on the Forum how has been fighting a problem I know is caused by trash in the BIOS CMOS, but Strick and I have ask him to do a good CMOS clearing and he just will not do it.  I even wrote out in great deal the over night CMOS clear procedure I use.  It is a pain in the ass, but some times, I have too use it.  I just had to use it, upgraded V3.09 using short CMOS Clear and had no problem.  Used the short procedure again when upgrading to V3.0A and everything when to hell, had to finally use the long overnight procedure and reinstall Windows to get computer to run right again.
NoBS, when your computer goes BOOO during the night just plain it o MSI.

  • K8N Diamond Plus & Corecell- temp & voltage accurate?

I just set up my new system with this motherboard (K8N Diamond Plus,) an Opteron 165, Scythe Mine heatsink, and a Silverstone Zeus 560w. Its these components that lead to my question-
I am getting temps of about 31C idle, 41C load.  Nice temps yes, but I'm not sure how accurate those are.  That means that it is idling at 86F in a room that was probably in the high 70's, maybe 80.  Seems a little too good to be true, but then again, I am used to Intel's furnace-like temps
Its the voltage reading that has me a bit more concerned though.  Corecell is reading my +5v as 5.36v, and my +12v as 12.28v.  The +3.3v is reading about spot-on at 3.33v.  I'm hoping that someone else who has this motherboard can tell me this- are the readings in Corecell for this motherboard generally accurate, and should I be concerned about this?

  • Adapter cable for K8N Diamond Plus PCIE cable?

I guess the K8N Diamon Plus was made before standards were settled, since it has the oldish IDE/Molex power connector for PCIE cards. That while Power Supplies now use the standard connector. Of course there are molex connectors as well on the PS cables, but many power supplies are split into 2 or 4 channels and you're better off using as many channels as possible.
The problem is: I can't find any adapter cable with (female) PCIE --> (male) Molex... I can find cables with one male PCIE and two Molex (don't remember if they were male or female), but not the right kind. I would look more closely now, when buying, and I now know about PS with split/combined settings - but the two PS I have are both "not right" for the Diamond Plus.
Any help with such cables? I'm in Stockholm, Sweden, so something in Europe would be preferred.

  • K8N Diamond Plus- bios freeze & question about temp/voltage monitor

A weird issue I had right after I setup my mobo last night was that I could not access the "PC Health" portion of the bios.  If I tried selecting it, it would just freeze.  Is this a known issue?  I'm hoping a bios update may solve this one.  Does anyone know anything about this?

Well I was mostly just asking if this was a known issue, so I guess "no" is all the answer I need...  Now, what would be my best solution?  I am assuming bios update, is there anything else that I should consider?
But if it helps, as I said its a brand new build, so I'm running the default bios. 1.00.  My other components are:  Silverstone Zeus 560w, 2GB of G.Skill pc4000, Raptor 74gb, 7900gtx, Opteron 165.
