DDR2 800MHz is working with G5?

Hi,
I read that latest G5 works fine with DDR2 PC4200 4200 533MHz, but in my local markets there are just DDR2 800MHz.
So is it going to work with G5???

Hi-
The G5 was made to us only PC2-4200 RAM. The G5 firmware does not look for any RAM other than PC2-4200.
Though other faster DIMMs may be backward compatible, if the SPD does not report properly to the G5 system (not properly programmed in the EEPROM), the RAM may be improperly recognized or not even work.
in my local markets there are just DDR2 800MHz.
*Buy only guaranteed Mac compatible RAM of the proper specification.*
Otherwise, expect problems.
If there are no problems, then you are lucky.

    Hi-
    No electrical worries.
    No jumpers, settings, nothing.
Use the same fan, and connect the fan to the same connector.

  • Will PC2 6400/800MHz work with my Early 2008 MacBook (4,1)?

I am having a problem with upgrading new RAM.  I received new RAM sticks and they will not work with my Early 2008 MacBook(4,1) with OS Lion.  Here are the stick specs:
    Make: Kingston
    Product #: KTD-INSP6000C/2G
    Speed: PC2-6400/800MHz
    Pin count: 200
    Other attributes:
    SODIMM
    DDR2-SDRAM
    Unbuffered
    Non-ECC
The tech specs from Apple (http://support.apple.com/kb/SP5) say that the bus speed is 800MHz and the how-to-guide to install RAM (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1651#link3) says that PC2-6400/800MHz should work.  However, that how-to-guide lumps 2006-2009 models together.  I don't know if all of those models are compatible with PC2-6400 AND PC2-5300 or if that is just the range within the models (e.i. 2006 takes 667MHz while 2009 takes 800MHz).  On the Kingston website it lists only Dell products as compatible with the product number I am thinking that is the problem.  The how-to-guide does say that  667MHz is the recommended maximum speed for my MacBook model.  I just don't know now if 800MHz works for my MacBook.  The current RAM sticks I have are the stock PC2-5300/667MHz.
The two Kingston sticks together: Doesn't boot up
One Kingston stick (tried both) with an old stick: Does boot up and work
One Kingston stick (tried both) completely by itself: Doesn't boot up
Here is my frustration, I bought some Kingston sticks (KTA-MB800K2/4G) that are supposed to be compatible with Apple from a company on Amazon and they shipped me the other product number since it is also PC2-6400/800MHz and they are out of stock of the specific product number I ordered.  They are saying that the problem is that my computer can't take PC2-6400/800MHz and that the different product number is irrelevant.  So, do I need to order different RAM sticks that are a lower speed or should this company ship me the original product number that I ordered?
    Thanks!

    No. Your model requires:
    Maximum Memory
6.0 GB (Actual) 4.0 GB (Apple)
    Memory Slots
    2 - 200-pin PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMM

  • Will 800MHz DDR2 SODIMM RAM work OK in a 667MHz mid-2007 iMac?

    Will 800MHz DDR2 SODIMM RAM work OK in a 667MHz mid-2007 iMac?

While TECHNICALLY it might work, in practice iMacs tend to be very sensitive to mismatched RAM modules and frequently experiece system instability in response.  I would not recommend mixing and matching RAM in your iMac.
    Hope this helps

  • DDR2 1066 work with AM3 CPU?

Am I too stupid or what?  Will an AMD Phenom 2 550BE work with a DDR2 1066?  From what I understand the site listed "Supports Dual DDR2 667/800/1066 (1066 for AM2+ only)".  But AM3 CPU will fit in an AM2+.  It makes no mention of what AM3 memory will be supporting.  Then I contacted MSI and got this response:
Thanks for contacting MSI Technical Support Team!
Regarding your concern, kindly please pay attention to the following link:
    http://asia.msi.com/index.php?func=proddesc&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=&cat3_no=&prod_no=1443
    It highlights the following information:
    Main Memory
    • Supports Dual DDR2 667/800/1066 (1066 for AM2+ only)
    - 4 DDR2 DIMMs (240pin / 1.8V)
    - Supports a maximum memory size up to 8GB.
    Therefore,DDR2 1066 RAMs only support AM2+ socket.
Kindly please pay attention to the following AMD official website. It highlights that the socket of AMD Phenom™ II X2 550 is AM3:
    http://products.amd.com/en-us/DesktopCPUDetail.aspx?id=560&f1=&f2=&f3=&f4=&f5=AM3&f6=&f7=45nm+SOI&f8=&f9=&f10=&f11=&f12=True
So I am a bit uncertain here.

    Simple answer: YES!
Support for unregistered DIMMs up to PC2 8500 (DDR2-1066MHz) OR PC3 (DDR3-1333MHz), but 1 stick per channel!
DDR2 or DDR3 depends on the board.

  • Can I fully utilize DDR2 800MHz memory on my Compaq 6720s laptop?

    Hello,
I have Compaq 6720s (KU232ES) laptop (with integrated graphics).
    CPU: Intel Core2Duo T5470
RAM: DDR2 PC-6400 800MHz MB: based on GM965 Express chipset.
On intel site I can see that both given CPU and MB chipset supports FSB800, but in spite of 800MHz system memory installed I can see in CPU-Z that it works with 667MHz frequency.
Really, in quickspecs it is mentioned that DDR2-533/667 are supported, nothing about 800.
I can't find related BIOS settings and can't find any BIOS update fixing this.
I'm wondering why I can't fully utilize DDR2-800 taking into account that all(?) relevant laptop nodes support this frequency?
Can somebody explain this to me please?
    Thank you

    Hi,
Please let me take and example: you have a fast car but the road allows only slower cars to run. What you can do ? You have to buy slower car (or waste money with fast car) or you have to build a new road.

  • 945GCM478 refuses to work with ATI HD5750!?

    Hi everybody.
I own the MSI 945GCM478 since October 2008 and I was pleased with it, but now I'm facing a problem.
Recently I've bought a Gigabyte GV-R575D5-1GD graphic card (using ATI HD5750 chip), which does not work with MSI motherboard. The graphic card works fine on other motherboards (tested).
But with 945GCM478, I power up the system, all coolers start spinning, but after 5 second they stop, only to restart again after 1 second, and so on ...start, stop, start, stop. The graphic card does not display anything in this time. So what does a reasonable person think in this situation... the power supply isn't up to it (although I've read that this graphic card isn't very demanding)! So I get angry and buy a Nexus RX-8500 PSU which should be enough I thought. But to my stupefaction the behavior of the system was the same. I've tested other 2 PSU with the same results. On the same occasion I also tested a nVidia GeForce 9500
graphic card which worked fine. Also two months ago I tested the system with a GeForce 9800GT graphic card ... no problem.
In the mean time I've updated to v1.1 bios... so this could be a problem. I reverted to v1.0 bios and tried again... no results.
I don't know what else to try.
So I'd like to ask if anybody have experienced anything similar, or can drop some light on the issue.
Could be a bios/chipset/PCI-E problem, or my motherboard is just faulty?
Is there any solution to make the HD5750 to work with 945GCM478?
The system uses a 3GHz Pentium 4 which complies to the minimum requirements in the graphic card manual.
Thank you in advance for any suggestion. (Please excuse my English).

    i.
    The system consist of
    Motherboard: MSI 945GCM478;
    Processor: Intel Pentium 4 HT (Prescott,FSB800,1MB);
    RAM: 1GB x 2 Kingston 800MHz (running in dual channel at 667MHz);
    HDD: Western Digital 160GB SATA2, Maxtor 200GB SATA1;
    OPTICAL: DVD-RW LG;
    PSU: Nexus RX-8500
    AC Input    115V/230V   15A/7,5A  50/60Hz
    DC Output              +3.3V   +5V   +12V1+12V2+12V3+12V4   -12V   +5VSB
    Max Output Current   24A   30A     20A     20A      20A   20A   0.8A   3A
    Max Combined Power      170W      760W                    6W   15W
    Total Power          829W
Also I would like to mention another thing, which raised my suspicion at first:
before I tested the graphic card on my home system I tested it on job system, a Lenovo using Intel 946PL/GZ chipset / Intel Pentium D 925 (LGA775) / 1GB DDR2 667. Initially this system refused to boot also with the graphic card, producing several beeps.  It did started only when I set in the the bios the active video device as Internal (not Auto or PCI-E) but the inserted graphic card didn't displayed anything, although the cooler was running.
    I hope this helps.
    Thank you.

  • K9N2 Diamond - not working with 4x 1Gb Corsair PC2-6400 modules

    Hi !
I've just discovered that my K9N2 Diamond will not accept my 4x 1Gb Corsair PC2-6400 modules with my new GTX275, although they seemed ok with my temporary 7950GT card.
The only noticeable difference is that one pair is 5-5-5-18 (installed now alone and working) and the other pair is 5-5-5-12 (removed).
Is this normal ? I also noticed that the actual installed pair is working in "Unganged 128Bit mode" compared to the previous "Unganged 64bit mode".
Would it therefore be wise for me to purchase 2x 2Gb modules instead ? I read that the Athlon x2 6000+ processor only works with DDR2 800Mhz memory ... Is this correct ?
Thanks in advance for your help !

    Hi,
Just a quick update : I set the DRAM frequency to 667Mhz using the FSB/DRAM ratio = 1:1.6 but to no avail : the system hangs at post. Would it be better for me then to buy 2x 2gGb sticks ?

Yes, that's best option. For best performance and troubles free use 2x matched memory sticks only.

Based on what you've posted, your computer does not have the right tuner.   You need a QAM tuner to record locals from FiOS, or a CableCard tuner to record all local and cable channels from FiOS.
QAM tuners to record local channels only
This requires Windows Vista or Windows 7
    Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2250
SiliconDust HDHomeRun (info on a sale)
CableCard tuner to record local and cable channels
This requires Windows 7 + one CableCard from Verizon for $3.99/mo
ATI TV Wonder Digital PC CableCard Tuner (records one channel at a time) -- $200-$250 on ebay
Ceton MOCUR tuner (records four channels at a time) -- coming in early 2010 for $400-$600
Make sure your computer has Windows 7 Home Premium (or better) installed.   That's necessary to support CableCard tuners.

With all the games coming out for iMacs what Gaming Pad or Jotstick works with the Imac

Now the bad news. In my "Print to Video" pop up, if
I select "Color Bars" , "Black", or any other option
and take out my bars and tone and slug from the
timeline, the print to video does not print anything
to tape except for a nice nothing blue. I don't
even get my actual timeline video printed to tape.
    Jerry,
You are a genius! Man do I feel silly. So just for the benefit of others who might read this post, I did exactly as you said, and of course when I restarted FCP, I had to identify my Firewire NTSC setting for the drive. This time, instead of leaving my tapedrive offline, I left it on and immediately saw on my drive monitor the video coming off of my timeline.
Every thing works perfect. I now have a clean timeline with just the content I'm working on and don't have to worry about bars, slugs, post black. Just a few checkboxes and I'm ready to send my tapes off. Really nice feature.
    Thanks!

You need to run software update AFTER you connect the keyboard.
You will then get an update which makes the keys work on the Macbook pro.
I am running it on MBP 2.4 (latest).
I cannot get it to work though on iBook G4 800Mhz. Posted thread already on that forum.
