DDR3 or DDR3L? for the new iMac (late 2013)

Hi!
I'd like to buy the late 2013 iMac with 16Go installed and upgrade it to 32Go myself. I'm looking to buy 16Go of RAM, but I'm not sure whether it should be DDR3 or DDR3L...
Can someone help me?...
Thanks a lot!

  • Can I install a Samsung 840 Pro 256GB into the new iMac late 2013?

    Hi There,
    1)   Can a Samsung 840 Pro 256GB SSD be installed in the new iMac late 2013 model?  (My plan is to remove the existing 1TB HDD and replace with the Samsung SSD)
1.1)  I have heard somewhere, even though it will fit, Apple's logic board firmware will pick up the non-apple product and render the iMac useless until original hard drive is reinstalled.
1.2)  If it will work, will I loose my warranty on iMac?  Note, the SSD will be installed by an Apple authorized workshop.
    2)     Can 2x 2.5 sata drives be installed in the iMac?
2.1)  I know the iMac only has 1x SATA and 1x PCIe slot, but can one not install a PCIe - SATA converter and also a 2x 2.5 drive bay in the place of the existing         3.5" drive?
    Thanks for your assistance.
    Regards,

I checked on the Samsung website and the 840 Pro is OSX compatible and should work in your MBP.

  • I buy the new imac,late 2012 with a hard-drive 3TB and i want to change with another hard-drive 1TB....where i can buy?

    i buy the new imac,late 2012 with a hard-drive 3TB and i want to change with another hard-drive 1TB....where i can buy?

It's also much more difficult to install third-party hard drives in current or recent Macs than it was. See:
    http://blog.macsales.com/10146-apple-further-restricts-upgrade-options-on-new-im acs
The 2012 iMacs are also in essence glued together and very difficult to disassemble and reassemble. The bottom line is: don't try it.
Why, if I may ask, would you want to remove the 3TB drive and replace it with a 1TB drive? What is it you hope to achieve even if it were possible?
    Regards.

  • LED Cinema Display (27-Inch) and the new iMac (late 2012)

Does the LED Cinema Display (27-Inch) work with the new iMac (late 2012) as a second monitor, and if so, which cable do I need?

It will work.  Plug its Mini DisplayPort plug into the computer's Thunderbolt port.  No adapters needed.

can i install bootcamp on the new iMac late 2012 "27" without fushion drive?

    You have two possibilities:
    1. Buy the USB SuperDrive and install Windows from a disc.
    2. Use an USB drive with the Windows 7 installer inside.
Boot Camp isn't compatible with Windows 8, so you will have to wait. Also, the Late 2012 is only compatible with the 64-bit Windows 7 edition

  • Persisting crashes with brand new iMac late-2013 27-inch (14,2)

    Please help!!!
Last week I purchased the latest iMac late-2013 (14,2) 27 inch with everything top range directly from the Apple Online Store. My configuration in a nutshell is the iMac (of course) with wireless keyboard and magic mouse, attached to it through Thunderbolt a LaCie 5Big (10TB) external drive as well as a USB connected WD MyBook (2TB) for Time Machine and a USB3 connected WD MyPassport (2TB) for those files I want to keep mobile between my devices, all of this on OSX 10.9.1. Futher details on the hardware below:
    Model Name:          iMac
      Model Identifier:          iMac14,2
      Processor Name:          Intel Core i7
      Processor Speed:          3.5 GHz
      Number of Processors:          1
      Total Number of Cores:          4
L2 Cache (per Core):          256 KB
      L3 Cache:          8 MB
      Memory:          32 GB
      Boot ROM Version:          IM142.0118.B00
      SMC Version (system):          2.15f2
My problem is that it keeps crashing... sometimes while doing some Final Cut X or Logic Pro X but other times while simply copying files between hard disks while Time Machine is running and everything else is closed... I can't figure out what the root cause or the particular event that triggers the crashes, thus they are quite unexpected and pretty abrupt - no warning signs at all.
I read in some of the threads that the 3rd party RAM may cause some problems but my 32Gb RAM came directly from Apple as configured while purchasing.
Here is the latest report my system gave me and I know some of you folks are pretty good figuring out what these messages mean. I will most likely get in touch with Apple support but before I do, I wanted to check with you geniuses before I spend hours on the phone with Apple support. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

Oh. You didn't 'splain that. In this case here's a suggestion for a start:
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
    Reinstall Mountain Lion or Mavericks
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

I am thinking of getting my first Macbook pro for uni and was just wondering which one would be the best? The macbook pro or macbook pro with retina display? or even wait for the new release in 2013 ?

If your budget is unlimited, look at both the retina and non-retina and make a decision based on your preferences.  If funds are tight, explore the options in the refurbished section.  Unless you are dealing with courses that demand specific performance parameters, any one of these options will suffice.
    Ciao.

  • What third party RAM is equal to "1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 4x8GB" for the NEW, 27" 2014 4K iMAC and is it advisable to buy instead of the Apple upgraded RAM?

What third party RAM is as good as the "1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 4x8GB" upgrade that Apple offers for the NEW, 27" 2014 5K iMAC Retina?
And is it advisable to buy instead of the Apple upgraded RAM? (my understanding is that third party RAM is not as costly).

go with one of the quality sources for ram OWC and Crucial are very well thought of
your options with the 5K  when you buy it are
    8GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x4GB
    16GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x8GB [Add $200.00]
    32GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 4x8GB [Add $600.00]
you might  want to go with the 16GB option when you buy if you know you might want to go to 32GB some day as that will get you to 32zb at the lowest cost. or you can start with the 8 and add 8GB sticks as you need them but if you are not happy stopping at 20GB you will end up with a pair of 4GB sticks to try to sell on ebay... or if you are lazy like me you get a couple of extra xmas tree ornaments.. i have 35 years of ram methods on my tree now dating back to the extra ram for my Apple ][ extra 8k and not a few obsolete processor ornaments too... dress em up with glitter so they sparkle

  • Better to go for the new iMac 24" 2.66GHz or the old iMac 24" 2.8GHz?

The old one's at $1199 in refurb
The new one's at about $1340 after an education discount
I guess the new one for the extra $140 or so will hold its resale value better - but is it a better computer and worth the extra $$$s?
Also I don't think the question's really been answered - are the processors different in the new iMacs - have they been physically updated in any way?
Which is it better to go for? Just want to run Logic Studio 8 on it.
    Thanks.

Well for your $140 difference you get twice the RAM, twice the hard drive space, and a better/faster graphics chip set.
I don't know if the processors are materially different other than speed and the difference is not significant, so I wouldn't stress to much over the 2.66 vs. 2.8 speed ratings since for most processes it probably won't make a difference, but the 2.66 one will probably seems a bit faster since it has twice the RAM. Also, while super expensive right now, the RAM on the newer ones allow you to upgrade to 8gigs of RAM (once those DDR3 SODIMM RAM prices drop). Are the old models limited to 4MB max?
For only $140 difference, I would go with the new model since the upgrades you get more than cover that. I would only consider the older refurbs if you were picking between two models with a much larger price difference.

  • Are there any wall mount brackets for the new iMac 27" 5k?

I have a wall mount (Bretford) for my Cinema HD Display that I have been using since 2008.  I just purchased the new iMac 27inch 5k computer.  It would be great to be able to use this computer with the wall mount.  The ones that are available (VESA) from the apple store and say they will work with some older iMacs.  My question is are there any available for the iMac I purchased? Thanks.

Hi. The VESA mounts for the iMacs are not "changeable": either you buy an iMac with a pedestal, either you buy one with a VESA mount, but you cannot switch, because the VESA mount is the first thing built in the iMac. You would need to sell your 5K iMac and buy a VESA 5K iMac.

  • Sales Tax for the new iMac

I'm sorry, I know this is probably not the right place to pose a question about sales tax, but I could not find the right category =/
If you think I should re-write this question in another category, I will
So, my situation is: I live in Brazil, and I have a friend who's going to the US in October. She is going to buy the new iMac for me.
I read on Apple's website that Sales Tax may apply. In which cases? If my friend goes to the retail store (instead of ordering it's shipment), does she has to pay this tax? how much is it normally? Does it depend on the State?
(And I only ask this because it's really not clear at apple.com and I don't know how sales tax work in the US...)
so thank you for your help!

Your question is really inappropriate to the Apple Discussions. The AD is a user-to-user forum for helping with technical problems and questions for Apple products. Sales taxes is certainly not one of those topics.
However, to answer your question. If your friend purchases a Mac in the Apple store or if you purchase it via the online store taxes will be charged. Sales taxes in the US are typically between 6-8 percent of the purchase cost depending upon the state in which it is purchased. There are a few states that do not levy sales taxes such as Nevada and Montana.
In addition when your friend takes the computer into your country you will likely be charged with import duties and taxes as well. If it's your expectation that this ploy will save you some money I wouldn't count on it.

  • Mounting the new imac (late 2012)?

I need to mount the new Imac (prob the 27 inch) on an arm.  I found one reference that said there wasn't going to be a vesa mount.  Does anyone know if it will be possible to mount this thing?  I cannot use the stand.. it has to go on an arm for me.
    Help!!

I was ready to buy the new iMac 27 inch and found out there isn't a way to remove the stand and use a monitor arm! So I am not buying the new iMac.
    Just FYI.
