DDS support in CS5?

Will ther be proper DDS support in CS5 or are we gonna have to continue using the non-x64 plugin from nVidia?

That really gets on my goat.  What do you mean "Normal Format"?
I've been working with graphics for over 15 years and I've never seen most of the file formats that photoshop supports used.
I think you should claify by saying:
"It's not a normal Print/Photographic/web format, so Adobe doesn't care."
When you're a game developer DDS is as normal as it gets.  I know that Games development isn't on Adobe's radar but a lttile help every now and again would be appreciated.
End Rant.

  • Is Adobe Exchange feature supported on CS5.* ?

    Hi!
I am developing a Flex panel for Photoshop CS5.* and 6 using Creative Suite Extension Builder 2. This version has  a new feature called Adobe Exchange that allows extensions to be marketed and sold. As I understand, this feature is supported on CS6 only.
I have some queries regarding the approval guidelines of a zxp.
[Guideline 1] Content should not contain any URL or redirect links anywhere other than Producers Identity Box in Extension Manager.
[Ques] Does that mean we cannot have a url on our panel that directs the user to anywhere other than  Producers Identity Box in Extension Manager?
[Guideline 2] Content does not contain encryption technology.
[Ques] Does this mean that our panel cannot in any way hold a code for encryption, be it for storing values like login credentials, etc.?
[Guideline 3] The product must support CS6 versions of Creative Suite applications. Products that support earlier versions are not accepted.
[Ques] Does this mean that a panel with support for CS5.* as well as CS6 will not be uploaded to Adobe Exchange?
Please shed some light on the above.
    Thanks!

    Hi there,
I have answered your questions inline below.
I am developing a Flex panel for Photoshop CS5.* and 6 using Creative Suite Extension Builder 2. This version has  a new feature called Adobe Exchange that allows extensions to be marketed and sold. As I understand, this feature is supported on CS6 only.
[Answer]: Yes CS6 is required but you can have a product that is backwards compatible with products earlier than CS6 such as CS5. In other words if you already have a product that supports say CS4/CS5 and CS6 you would not need to strip anything out we just need to have CS6 compatibility in order to be supported on the new Adobe Exchange.
[Answer]: What you can't do is point to another store or purchase page. So for example you could link to more information about your product but you could not provide a direct link to another Store/purchase option. As long as you do not have a direct link to another Store URL we are OK with it.
[Guideline 2] Content does not contain encryption technology.
[Ques] Does this mean that our panel cannot in any way hold a code for encryption, be it for storing values like login credentials, etc.?
[Answer]: The encryption question is really about encryptng or creating the possibility of encrypting. It comes back to the United States wanting to ensure we do not export somethign that could harm the United States, so for example a product that let's you encrypt secret information may cause issues for the US government. There are very few cases I can think of where this could be the case but we have to ask the question from a legal perspective. We expect some encryption for things like say a login and that should be OK but if you do have any concerns please say yes and we can investigate. 99% of the time it should not be an issue but we will work with producers to help you if you have any questions or concerns on this topic.
[Guideline 3] The product must support CS6 versions of Creative Suite applications. Products that support earlier versions are not accepted.
[Ques] Does this mean that a panel with support for CS5.* as well as CS6 will not be uploaded to Adobe Exchange?
[Answer]: No you can have backwards compatibility in your product, you just need to ensure your product will work with S6, if it works with earlier versions of
    CS that's fine.
    I hope the above helps.

  • GTX 460 1GB CUDA support in CS5.5?

I've read the list of supported CUDA boards for CS5, but does this mean that the GTX 460 1GB boards will never have support in CS5.5?

Think what could be done with 2, 3, or 4 GPUs.
Hey, no one else at this point even has one.  So we Premiere Pro users are lucky in that regard.
Personally, I still think the move away from the proprietary CUDA are towards OpenCL is more important than adding SLI  That opens up ATI cards as well.  And for the money, ATI cards often have double or triple the number of stream processors over nVidia's cores.  That can mean significantly better performance out of ATI cards for the same or less money.

  • How do I connect with chat support for CS5 downloading?

I have tried a no. of times to get support chat for my photoshop cs5.  I have a new computer and it doesn't have a dvd for downloading my disc.  I did talk with support chat and they recommended that I follow a link to download.  https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-product-downloads.html
Here I found what I was looking for but it comes in 2 parts.  After downloading, I am unable to open anything, and I get the following message:  "the file archive part of Flash Pro CS5 is missing.  You need all parts in the same folder in order to extract Flash Pro CS5.  Please download all parts"  I also got 'We've encountered the following issues:  installer failed to initialize. File not found, Please download Adobe Support Advisor to date the problem"
I had downloaded part one and two. However, they are separate downloads, and i don't understand why it is telling me to download all parts.
Also, it is very hard finding the chat area which is 24/7.  There is a place where you can see the support options, but the Chat option is not active. [The forum option is an active link].
    Your help/advice is appreciated.

you need to dl both the exe and the 7z files, put them in the same folder and then double click the exe.

  • Powerbook G4 - system 10.5.8 why won't it support Adobe CS5.5?

I know my laptop is a few years old now, but I have upgraded it to system 10.5.8. I just bought Adobe CS5.5 as I needed it for class and the website stated it needed system 10.5.8 (which I have). Now that I've gone to load the programs it's now saying that it 'doesn't support the architecture'?? WHY??? Adobe state it needed 10.5.8 and that's what I have on my laptop. Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening? The processor is PowerPC G4 (1.1). It recommends 1 gig of ram and I only have 512 but surely it doesn't need a gig to load (I was just going to use one program at once or upgrade the ram later).
I appreciate anyone who can shed some light for me on this!

It appears the key point in Adobe's system requirements is that a Mac must have an Intel multicore processor, running on 10.5.8 and 1GB of RAM, among other requirements. Sorry, Adobe no longer supports the Power PC architecture, even if running OS10.5.8.

  • AC-3 support across CS5 suite

    Hi
this isn't a PPro question (sorry) but seeing that many expert users frequent this forum more than the Bridge forum, i thought i would post here...
I have a few video files with AC-3 encoded audio
    Audio
    ID                               : 189 (0xBD)-128 (0x80)
    Format                           : AC-3
    Format/Info                      : Audio Coding 3
Mode extension                   : CM (complete main)
    Muxing mode                      : DVD-Video
    Duration                         : 1mn 24s
    Bit rate mode                    : Constant
    Bit rate                         : 256 Kbps
    Channel(s)                       : 2 channels
    Channel positions                : Front: L R
    Sampling rate                    : 48.0 KHz
    Bit depth                        : 16 bits
    Compression mode                 : Lossy
Delay relative to video          : -514ms
    Stream size                      : 2.58 MiB (6%)
the files load and play fine in Premiere (CS5), Soundbooth etc... but not in Bridge (4.0.4.2) , the video plays but audio isn't there...
is AC-3 support supposed to be uniform across the entire CS5 Production Premium suite ? are there DLL i need to copy to the Bridge directory ?similar to the old issue in CS4 ?
    thanks in advance
    Sam

Previous versions of After Effects and Premiere Pro installed both DLLs  and ActiveX controls for codecs licensed from third parties. After  Effects CS5 (and later) and Premiere Pro CS5 (and later) only install the DLLs, because we don't  need the ActiveX controls, and they were just causing problems. Unknown  to us, Bridge CS4 was relying on those ActiveX controls being installed.  So, Bridge CS5 and later---not having these codecs---can't play some kinds of  files.
In a manner of speaking, Bridge CS4 being able to play these files was an accident.
If you want to have AC-3 preview in Bridge, you should make a feature request.

  • What's the maximum print (page) size supported by CS5 64-bit?

I'm using 64-bit Windows 7, Photoshop CS5 64-bit, and have 24GB of RAM. I've put together some panoramas - big ones, up to 20'-30' long. I know the 32-bit version of Photoshop on a 32-bit processor and OS had a page size limit of around 108" long or so. To print anything longer than that required the use of an expensive RIP.
Does anyone know if my 64-bit goodness will allow me to print panos that are 20 to 30 feet long, without having to purchase a RIP? I'd simply give it a try, but I hate to waste a ton of paper just to find out that it wouldn't print completely. Any ideas?
    Thanks much!
    Scott

I think that some print drivers have a limit too, you might want to state what driver you are using.
Some printers do not use a driver, but an export module, that should alleviate all limits.
I remember a very old 30.000 pixel limit, that, I think has been lifted. you want to check the reference documents.

  • XDCAM HD422 support in CS5?

I have some XDCAM HD422 footage I would like to edit in AE. I am currently on CS4 which doesn't import this format. I see that PP CS5 does, but what about AE CS5?

    Hi teetime17,
were you able to work with HD422 50/1080/25p (or 30p) footage in cs5? With this I do not only mean whether you were finally able to import the files. What I mean is whether it was practical to work with HD422 footage in cs5 (without downframing or other reduction in quality). Sorry to reopen this threat after so many years, but I need to work with HD422 50/1080/30p footage and I am trying to build a workstation on a tight budget.
    Thanks!

  • Basic HTML support from CS5 stripped?

Look, I've been using DW since Macromedia owned it. I also just upgraded from CS3 to CS5, due to the issue with OS X Lion.  I do a weekly newsletter for someone and it's all basic HTML so all email clients and/or providers display it the same. The CS5 version, basically, has stripped all the basic HTML functionality. Why?
In CS3, I could select some text, pick a font, change the size and color and be on my way. In CS5, it's the most convoluted way to do it and it automatically creates a CSS class. I DO NOT want to use CSS in an HTML email newsletter. Gmail won't display anything correctly. Hotmail is a different issue. So is AOL. All of these providers have members on the subscriber list so it needs to work with ALL of them.
I know CSS but I really just want to keep it HTML for the sake of compatibility. Granted, I could make all CSS inline but, this newsletter has so much information in it. If I do it using inline CSS it'll take me half a day... it normally takes only about 1.5hrs to do it using HTML. I don't want to code it all by hand either. That, too, would take me the better part of a day and, frankly, I get paid for 2hrs of work, not 8+.
    See what I mean... http://www.parkavecds.com/newsletter/
No one wants to do all of this by hand. Especially the New Release section. How cumbersome.
All I want to do is select, color, pick font and size and go. I also need to be able to select a table and change it's background, without using CSS. It was incredibly easy to do using CS3. Now it's impossible in CS5 unless I manually go into the code and add/remove the "background" string using HTML in the table.
Anyone know of a basic HTML WYSIWYG editor for OS X Lion that will let me select elements on the page and adjust/add/change/remove as easily as CS3? I've tried 'em all so far... Blue Griffon, Amaya, Coda, etc... I want the simplicity of CS3. I'd hate to hook up my old computer, every week, just to make this crummy newsletter happen. Or, perhaps, I'm missing something in CS5?
Don't get me wrong, CS5 will be perfect for when I need to do some sweet websites using CSS etc... which I aslo do. But why on earth did they nix the basic HTML functions and force a user to make it CSS? Every browser works fine using plain HTML. I understand standards and why people should learn CSS etc... but, c'mon already! It should still be a part of the program. It's the foundation of the web!!
Thanks for your help in advance!

Thanks for the link. I submitted a request, too. Same as you.
Despite my gripe, I did ask if anyone had a suggestion for a good WYSIWYG editor that had the functionaly that I need... basic HTML with the ability to avoid CSS and/or add/change backgrounds in tables on the fly...
    Thanks!
From my experience if you are working with clients and emailing from an Email Service Provider (ESP) you are better off making your template once and uploading to their service if it is allowed.  I've done that before with Mailchimp.  Took a bit of time to learn the template language but once you get the hang of it for the provider it's just a matter of swapping text or images.  And for an even simpler solution just use their tools.  Most allow you to create basic emails in a WYSIWYG interface.  Unfortunately though outside of their constrained templates, most resources, and I would agree, suggest that you just hand code some tables and use code editors more than WYSIWYG.
Not to get off-topic, but even though you can't use styles for email clients like GMail, don't forget you still need HTML tags on the document.  That link you posted originally contains a </html> at the end, but no header information for the client to decipher the code, sending the clients into quirks mode where they guess at what the code should render.

  • AIR 2 Support in CS5 Extensions

Is there any way to use the AIR 2 runtime in CS5 Extensions? I need the ServerSocket class real bad...
    TIA,
    mlavie

    Hi Bob,
I guess I need your help.
Since applying the AIR 2.7 SDK over the CS5 Flex 3.4 SDK, any attempt to debug results in the dreaded message:
    D:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash CS5\Players\FlashPlayer.exe
Flash Builder cannot locate the required debugger version of Adobe Flash Player. You might need to install the debugger version of the Flash Player or reinstall Flash Builder.
Do you want to try to debug with the current version?
What do I do to solve this?
    TIA,

  • Does Photoshop CS5.1 support TWAIN plug-in on Mac OS X V 10.7.4

I am running Photoshop CS5.1 Extended V 12.1 in 32 bit mode on a Mac OS X 10.7.4 and followed instructions to install the TWAIN plug-in as written here:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4904
I restarted Photoshop, but the TWAIN plug-in does not appear in file/import dropdown as it did in my earlier version of Photoshop (see attached screenshot).
I found this discussion in the forums which implies that the TWAIN plugin is supported in CS5.5 and Mac OS 10.7 (Lion):
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/3816883
Is the TWAIN plugin supported in CS5.1 and Mac OS 10.7?  If so, can anyone help me troubleshoot why the plug-in does not appear in my file/import dropdown list?
    Thanks in advance.
P.S.  I prefer to use the TWAIN plug-in because I am very familiar with the TWAIN driver and how to manipulate scanner settings to get a scanned image that represents my original artwork.  I am testing the recommended VueScan and it offers more than the epson scanner driver on the mac, but I can get more work done in less time with a TWAIN plug-in because there's no learning curve.

    Additional information:
installed trial version of VueScan, which included a Photoshop plug-in for my epson scanner.  That plug-in IS recognized (and functional) within Photoshop CS5.1.
