De Authorising ADE on a Mac

Hi,
I purchased a Sont eReader PRS 600 for my wife. Having installed the Sont Software on her Mac I proceeded to download the free classics sucessfully to the new Reader.
We then decided to purchase an ebook from the WH Smith site.
Although the file appeared to have transferred to the Downloads directory on the Mac the Sony software was unable to see it.
I then downloaded ADE and installed onto the Mac. When asked to authorise the software I tried to do so with my wife's brand new Adobe ID.
This was on Boxing day PM and after several unsuccessful attempts I decided to try my existing Adobe ID. This worked staightaway.
Unfortunately the now authorised ADE cannot see the purchased book (I cant recall if I had given WH Smith my wife's new Adobe ID during the process of buying the ebook)
I understand that I probably need to de authorise ADE on the Mac and then to try to authorise it with my wife's ID.
I know that on a PC the deauthorise option appears with CTRL + Shift + E , how do I proceed on a Mac , I tried CMD + Shift + E but this does nothing
Hopefully you can point me in the right direction
Nick

E is for devices (expect for the Sony Readers on the Mac which are supported),
D is for the computers - so Cmd Shift D

I tried removing the authorization using ctrl-shift-D, but that didn't work either.
Do you mean it didn't deauthorize, or that after deauthorizing you still couldn't authorize?
If the first, you must be in Library view for it to work.
Would you recommend installing an older version of the software?
Yes, I'd certainly give it a try ~ you may have seen in other posts I often suggest it.
I hope it works for you in this case ....
Just in case you haven't seen the download details ...

There are lots of bugs in ADE2.0 (and 2.0.1).  Try replacing ADE2.0 with the older but more reliable v1.7.2.
(You can have them both installed at once if you like.)
Version 1.7.2, it is a little difficult to find, available on Adobe site for Windows and for Mac.

The forum software is sometimes corrupting the link above.  There shouldn't be a blank in 'editio ns.html'.  The following redirects to the same page: http://tinyurl.com/diged172
Some people have found ADE trying to upgrade automatically.
It appears (not 100% sure) that if you install ADE2.0 as a new install (not as an upgrade) that your 1.7.2 will continue to run.
Probably best to say no if 2.0.x installation asks if you want to migrate your library.

  • I'm using ADE with a Mac and have successfully downloaded library books for a few years; suddenly today the books are downloading to the Finder but do not show up in ADE so that they can be put on my Nook.

Is anyone suddenly having trouble using Adobe Digital Editions on a Mac to download library books?  I have been using this to load books on to my Nook and suddenly, out of nowhere, everything is downloading to the Finder app.  ADE pops up like it always has when I download from the library website, but the book does not show up there.
    Has something changed?

    1. iTunes won't offer cloud downloads for songs that it "thinks" are in your library, even if it "knows" the files are missing. If you've exhaustively searched for the missing files and there is no prospect of repair by restoring to them to their original locations, or connecting to new ones, then delete that tracks that display both the missing exclamation mark and are of media kind Purchased/Protected AAC audio file. Don't hide from iTunes in the cloud when asked, close iTunes, then reopen. You can download from the cloud links or iTunes Store > Quicklinks > Purchased > Music > Not on this computer > All songs > Download all.
    2. Why? Not sure, perhaps 3rd party tools or accidental key presses combined with previously hidden warning messages when trying to organize the library. There is a hint that using the feature to downsample media as it is synced to a device may also be involved, though I've not replicated it. Whatever the reason a backup would protect your media.

  • ADE 3 on Mac - (Please Help Jeff A. Wright)

Last week I downloaded Digital Editions 3 to my Mac.  It wouldn't run as the software stated I needed OS 10.6 as a minimum; at the time I was running OS 10.5.8
I have paid Apple for the OS software update and am now running OS 10.6.8
I have again downloaded Digital Editions 3 to my Mac Book, and it still won't run, it now states it needs a minimum of OS 10.7
I'm not happy and because of the age of my Mac cannot upgrade the OS any higher.
    Suggestions please.

so, you should be good.  download here and install, http://www.adobe.com/products/digital-editions/download.html

  • ADE 2.0 Mac bug & suggestions

2.0 is much nicer. There was a bug in the 1.8 beta that's still there. If I control/right click anywhere, in the library or after highlighting some text in a book, I get a beachball that seems to say. On 10.8.2.
It seems also that any dialog that says don't show this message again doesn't retain the setting between restarts.
For what's to come, a search field to find books would help a lot. After adding hundreds, how do you find 'em? Maybe you'd consider editing metadata, something like highlight one or a few books, command-I and Get Info, like iTunes. If I want to edit a title, author, or publisher, it's quite a pain otherwise. Even without that, perhaps, when opening a document, you can re-read the metadata? Like if I add a missing publisher, I need to delete and re-add to the document for it to be shown.

That's what I ended up doing, but it still doesn't work on my Mac. I had to use my husbands Windows laptop.
I have lots of ebooks, and all of them have been uploaded to my Kobo via the Kobo desktop application (or I transfer it wirelessly). Every book on the Kobo is an Adobe DRM epub file, but this was the first one that literally came up with blank pages. The cover page showed up, the titles and chapter names would show up on the bottom of the page, but each chapter only had one page (it would say Chapter 1: CHAPTER NAME: Page 1 of 1, same for Chapter 2, 3 etc), with no words at all on the pages.
How come I haven't had this issue before? I have been reading other ADOBE DRM EPUB files with no issues.
So if its the clock issue, how come the authorization worked on my husbands laptop? I purchased the book on Tuesday afternoon (2 days ago), and used the Kobo Desktop App to sync it to my Kobo. It was blank. Then I spent two days waiting for Kobo to tell me what to do. Why would it work on one computer and not the other?
I would really like to be able to use my computer for any other books I have to use ADE to transfer to my Kobo. Is there anything I can do to allow ADE to authorize my iMac?

  • Authorising ADE 1.8 Preview

I'm writing an article on how to use ADE with a screen reader, and was using my authorised version of the 1.8 preview to do so. I deauthorised my computer so that I could go through the authorisation process and explain how it works. I couldn't find a way to do this with the preview, so installed the 1.7 version to deauthorise, then I uninstalled both versions and reinstalled the 1.8 preview (to get round having to manually reassign the filetypes to the 1.8 preview). When I went to authorise it with the same account I had previously used, I got an error message saying "you can only authorize this computer with an Adobe ID that hasn't been previously used to authorize any other computer or mobile devices. Please try again."
Is this a roundabout way of telling me I've used up the six(?) authorisations allowed with this ID? Odd, given that 10 minutes before I been using this authorisation on this PC. Or have I knackered things by temporarily installing a second version of ADE on the PC?
    Any help or advice appreciated,
    Steve

Sorry, I’ve not been around for a few days. I went ahead and authorised with no Adobe ID. Now, both the Authorize Computer and the Authorization Information items on the Help menu are unavailable.

  • Can't install ADE on my Mac

I'm trying to install Adobe Digital Editions on my Mac, but when I click "install" during the installation process, nothing happens. I've tried versions 3.0, 2.0, and 1.72, and it's exactly the same. There's no error message. I've checked and I don't already have it installed. I have a MacBook Air with OSX 10.9.2.

Did you look for error messages in the Console application? This is where you will find a log of everything that your computer does (well most of it). You can open the Console by going to spotlight, typing in Console, and opening the application that it finds.

  • How to solve ADE crashing on Mac OSX 10.9 when opening library ascm/epub files?

When trying to open some, but not all, epub library books using ADE, ADE sometime simply crashes and quits, for specific books.  The only error message I get is "Adobe Digital Editions quit unexpectedly"  —which is not a terribly helpful message, since it's pretty obvious what just happened.  I'm using a mid 2009 macbook with Mavericks (10.9.5) and some of my library books work just fine, while others crash the machine when I try to read them (the book downloads & shows up in my library, but if I try to read it, ADE crashes & quits.  I'm using the same reader, same computer, and same library account  for everything I've read using ADE and I cannot find any useful help about why ADE will open some of my library books, but not others, even though they all appear to be in the same format.  I was hoping that ADE would get me out from under the tyranny of Kindle and actually be a functional e-reader on my laptop, but so far, that has not been the case.

All 3 of my books transferred over without my having had to do anything at all.  If you're worried about retaining books, you could try moving your ADE 4 to an external drive & confirming that your books are also there.  I believe that the book information is saved elsewhere (separately from the ADE) and it should simply transfer over, but since I only had three books, all library items, I didn't have much to lose.  All I can speak from is my own experience.  I had to get rid of ADE 4 in order to successfully install ADE 2.0.

  • Nothing works for authorizing my ADE, nothing works for authorizing my ADE on my Mac airbook; used to work fine

Tried installing noew ADE 3.0;  tried command-shift-D  but don't get a window asking if I want to deauthorize. Help window resets to allow authorization.
Used to work fine for past year.
Changed email to this one I'm logged in with; nothing works.  keep getting the bad key error message.  Why is there no clean install re-do information?

Before you go knocking a much better OS than you'd wish to believe, I'm having the SAME problem in XP.

  • ADE authorization on Mac

I cannot move my downloaded books into ADE.  I suspect it may be because I have not received authorization.  I believe there is supposed to be a authorization window pop up after you are finished installing ADE.  I get a message saying that the the installation is successful then nothing.  I can see the books in finder but they are "grayed" out and cannot be moved.  I am a novice at this and need help.  Thanks

    Hi,
In order to fix this please follow the steps as given below.
Open Digital Editions and on the top left corner click Library>>Authorize computer.
If your computer is already authorize with ADE then it will show up the ID with which Digital Editions is authorized.
Now if your computer is not authorized then it will give you an option to enter ID and password in order to authorize it.
Now if your computer is already authorized and you are not able to open books then please follow the steps as given below.
Delete restore folder from following location.
       C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\My Documents\My Digital Editions.
Once again download the same book.
Now go to the location where you have downloaded book
Right click on the book and select Open with.
    Now select Adobe Digital Editions
Now the book should open in Digital Editions.
I hope this will help you!!!

  • Can't get library ebooks to load to ADE on Mac

My wife has a Nook and I downloaded ADE to our Mac so she can download library books. Originally I thought it didn't matter what Adobe ID was used to set up ADE on the Mac. I found out it does with the Nook. The library book downloaded to ADE but it would not transfer to the Nook. So I deleted ADE and had my wife set up an Adobe ID. Then reinstalled ADE and Authorized using my wife's Adobe ID. Then we tried downloading the library book again but ADE would not accept the book. Fast forward to today when we tried again.
    1. When ADE comes up on the Mac the following dialog box appears with this message—One or more downloads are not finished. Do you want to resume pending tasks? Cancel or OK
    2. When clicking OK another dialog box comes up with this message—Error getting license. License server communication problem. E_LIC_ALREADY_FULFILLED_BY_ANOTHER_USER.
    3. When I click OK the dialog box disappears.
I have tried dragging the book from the download folder to ADE and it bounces back every time. So there is some incompatibility going on some where. Are there any ideas what I should do?
    Johnboy5010
PS. I clicked on cancel in the first dialog box and it doesn't show again but the book still will not drag and drop into ADE.

I dug around the Adobe website and found some release notes for ADE 1.7.2. In the notes it stated that Safari needed to be able to recognize the .acsm file. The automatic recognition had been removed in Safari, and the notes gave a link to a blog. In the blog discussion it had a sample file to add to the User/Library/Preferences. I downloaded that file, opened it, and added the .ascm to the list. I went back and downloaded yet another copy of the library ebook. With ADE open on the iMac I just clicked once on on the book in the download folder and it zapped into the ADE app. So I immediately got my wife's Nook and successfully transfered the file. So once I wiped more blood from my eyes from having beaten my head on that brick wall, I double click on a file of the book on my desktop. It too went into ADE. (I deleted that copy.) So apparently just clicking or double clicking the file after downloading will put it into ADE. Someone pass the bandaid box please.

but it still no songs appear on my ipod.
    Hi,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
    Symptom
One or more of the following occurs:
iPod does not show up in iTunes or as disk in Windows Explorer
iPod does not show up as disk in Windows Explorer (even though disk mode is enabled on the iPod)
iTunes and Windows Explorer report the wrong amount of available space on iPod
No songs appear on the iPod after an apparently successful update from iTunes
Music copied to mapped network drive instead of iPod

  • ADE doesn't work on my mac.

I "successfully" download ADE on my mac, but it doesn't work- never prompts me to put in my Adobe id, and it just brings up a blank black screen- I've submitted an adobe case, and been advised to uninstall and reinstall Adobe air, flash and digital editions, but it is the same every time.   Thinking about returning my Nook, even though I love it, because the library book functionality is what made me choose nook.  Please Help!!!

    Try PRAM reset.

  • ADE not recognizing Bebook reader

    Hi,
I've installed ADE 1.7.1 on a Mac (running MacOS 10.4). It runs ok, however will not recognize my Bebook reader.
The Mac sees the Bebook reader when I connect it and I can move/copy/delete files on it using Finder.
As I want to purchase books as well, I need to get ADE up and running.
I also installed ADE on my laptop (running Windows XP). On that machine it works fine, ADE does recognize the bebook reader.
Is there any way to force ADE to recognize the reader?
    Regards,
    Bas

re-installed ADE on the MAC, de-authorised the bebook from the windows machine.
retried, but no luck: the MAC sees the bebook device, ADE however doesn't.
Does anybody have any other suggestions? My wife has started to seriously regret giving me the bebook ereader for christmass as I've been stuck in following forums, etc. to try to fix it!
    many thanks
