De-authorising dead computers

Hi, me again!,
In recent months I have upgraged my motherboard once through choice, then once more because a trojan/worm destroyed that one.
Each time I have had to authorise the 'new' pc. As a result I now have 3 pc's authorised but only one pc to work from... stay with me...
How do i de-authorise the previous two (now dead) pc's???
Thanks
Matt.

Try the instructions in this article; if they don't help, use the Deauthorize All function or try submitting this form.

Click here and ask the iTunes Store staff for assistance. Only they can perform a second Deauthorize All before the year ends.

  • ITunes thinks I have authorised 3 computers - I haven't

iTunes 7.0.1. is under the impression that I have authorised 3 computers to use the iTunes store. I haven't.
As I was downloading a track, my already authorised G5 popped up a message saying authorisation had been OK. Checking my account shows 3 authorised machines. I foillowed Apple's guide "One computer using multiple iTunes Store authorizations" on both this and my notebook. Both show that each machine is only authorised once. As I have no other computers, this is baffling.
Another problem with iTunes? How do I get it back to recognising that I am only authed on the two machines I own?
    Any thoughts, guys?

Have you added any RAM/hardware or reinstalled the OS?
These can cause iTunes to think it's a different machine, thereby using an other authorization.

This is not really a problem (although it can be irritating) unless you need that authorization back to use on another computer.

  • I have used only one laptop since I started using apple products, but itunes notified me that i have authorised 5 computers. how do i correct this

I have used only one laptop since I started using apple products, but itunes notified me that i have authorised 5 computers. how do i correct this

Deauthorize all, then authorize the active computer.

  • HT1420 why don't you let me authorise 5 computers

why don't you let me authorise 5 computers

These are user-to-user forums, you are not talking to Apple here.  You should be able to authorise 5 computers, but not more than that - old computers that you haven't deauthorised will count in the 5, and a computer could count for more than one authorisation if you haven't deauthorised it prior to updating or reinstalling the OS on it.
Do you currently have 5 computers authorised ? If you do and you no longer have some of them then you can 'deauthorise all' (which you can do once every 12 months) and you should then be able to reauthorise up to 5 computers that you still have and need.

  • HT1420 Deauthorizing dead computers without affecting live ones?

How can I deauthorize DEAD computers? I am at my limit and need to remove 3 from the list wherever that can be found.

In reading over the related posts I cannot believe the only way is by deauthorizing all and then going to the hassle of reauthorizing the usable machines.  How does this affect the day to day running of iTunes? or does it only ask when using the store?

  • HT1420 Deauthorizing old (dead) computers

I have 5 authorized computers, but two are dead (before I could deauthorize them).  Why can't I just get a listing of authorized computers and deselect the dead ones as opposed to having to dauthorize them all and start all over???  Seems like such a pain.
    Thanks,
    ABS

If you no longer have, or access to, the computer(s) you want to deauthorise,
Log in to iTunes,  go to "view your account info" on the itunes store,  deauthorise all five, (Please Note: this can only be done Once every 12 months)  and then re-authorize your current Computer(s) one at a time.

  • I have 2 itunes accounts - one work a/c and one home a/c, but when i sign in at home only my home songs appear even if I sign in my work a/c. I have authorised both computers to show both a/cs. How can I get my work a/c songs to appear at home?

I have 2 itunes a/cs one at work and one at home. Both computers are authorised for the 2 a/cs, but I can;t get my work a/c songs to show on my home computer, even though I sign in my work a/c, and I can't get my home songs to show up on the  work computer even though I sign in my home a/c. V. frustrating!

    Hi,
You will have to manually copy your music. Get a pen-drive big enough to accommodate all your music. And follow these steps:
    1. Create a new folder on the pen-drive.
    2. Copy the music from your work computer to the folder you just created. It's in (yourhomefolder)>Music>iTunes>iTunes Media>Music if you're using a Mac, or in C:\Users\(yourusername)\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Music if you're using Windows.
    3. Now on your home computer quit iTunes, and copy your music from work to the "Automatically Add to iTunes" folder in (yourhomefolder)>Music>iTunes>iTunes Media.
    4. Start iTunes. It will automatically start to process the files and move them to the appropriate place.
Repeat these steps with your music from home on your work computer. Also I suggest to use only one iTunes account if possible.
    Hope it helps
    Regards,
    Gábor

  • Managing authorisation/de authorisation of computers

I'm wanting to reset my authorised computers.  I obviously want to keep my own computer authorised but is the quickest way to do this to de authorise all and then authorise my computer.  Will this effect anything (like the library, synced devises etc)?

In the iTunes Store (on your computer), click your Apple ID in the top right corner. Enter your password to view your account. Under Apple ID Summary, you will see a Computer Authorizations line and a "Deauthorize All" button. That is what you're looking for. After you click it, ALL computer will be deauthorized (including the one you're on). Then feel free to re-authorize computers.
Be warned: Apple customer service told me you can only use this once a year. Not sure if the rule still applies.

  • I've authorised 5 computers, Can't deauthorise 5 for another 9 months

I authorised 1 or 2 of my friend's computer to play my music when I stayed.
But I have authorised my current computer at least 3 times and it's been away to be fixed many many times.
And iTunes is telling me I can't deauthorise All computers again till september.
This would all be very well but on my friends itunes i can't find the 'deauthorise' link that I read on how to deauthorise one machine.
So basically, if anyone can help me in finding the link more specifically, or how to deauthorise all again, or anything, please reply.

or how to deauthorise all again
Fill out and submit this form to ask for a second deauthorize all or other assistance.

  • HT1420 i cant de autorize itunes on my dead computers! please help!

now what? All my past computers have been stolen on died on me preventing me from de authorizing my itunes and now i can not access my 800 songs i paid for?

Individual computers can only be deauthorised directly on them, but as you have more than 1 computer authorised then you can log into your account on your computer's iTunes (Store > View My Account) and 'deauthorise all' (which you can do once every 12 months) and you can then authorise/reauthorise the computers that you still have and need : authorising and deauthorising.

  • De-Authorise all computers

I have already used this option in iTunes once this year, and I am now at the point where I need to do it again, I have tried using the form on apple's website to ask them to help me with the issue but I haven't heard anything back and I did this about a month ago. Any ideas of another way I can de-authorise a machine i don’t have access to?

ITMS allowed me a second 'deauthorize all', though I did advise them that I am a Apple Certified Tech and am constantly swapping computers, I'm not sure if this made a difference.

  • HT1420 De-authorising old computers

according to itunes i have 5 computers authorised but i only have 2 computers a ipad and phone .. 1 of computers (laptop) has just had new hardrive in so trying to authorise it again but wont let me as it says ive reached my limit . How do i get round this if i dont have or use old comps and dont want to de-authorise everything else ??

How do i get round this if i dont have or use old comps and dont want to de-authorise everything else ??
Doublechecking something. Why don't you want to do a Deauthorise All from one of the computers you have access to and then reauthorise the computers you have access to?

  • Disabling itunes on dead computers.

The computer I mainly used itunes on died.  I was able to extract my data, and put it on another laptop.  However, when I try and syc w/ the new laptop, I get a message saying that I am logged onto 5 computers, and so I can't sync on the new one.  I know two of the computers that I had used itunes on, are dead, the other three...no idea.  Question, how do I tell itunes that the other computers are dead, or not in use, so I can sync on my new computer?
    Thanks.

If you've reached five authorizations for that account, there will be a button in your iTunes Store account information that will allow you to deauthorize all systems associated with that account. Log into your Store account and you should see it. You can then reauthorize the computers you're using now.
    Regards.

  • DEAD COMPUTERS AFTER UPDATE...HELP!!!

OK, so yesterday I updated to iTunes v5.0 on BOTH of my PC's. I then began to import on the first one and my computer went absolutely dead. No power, won't turn on- DEAD. I, being an impatient moron, went to my other computer to import on that one because I was in a hurry to leave. The same thing happened! I figured on the first one that it was a cord or something simple. Now I have two completely dead PC's. Does anyone know if there is any hope for computers that won't even turn on? I have spent two hours on the phone w/ Apple, talked to five people, and gotten no resolution! I had extra cords and replaced them, and everything else on the power strip gets power. Please help!!!

If you have tried "everything", there is no point in offering you any suggestions especially without you providing "everything" you have already tried without success.
The iPhone includes a one year warranty. Since you don't include your location either, if you are in the U.S. you can call AppleCare or make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one nearby - blah, blah.
