De-authorization/ReAuthorization

I have five computers authorized for my iTunes account. If I de-authorize all of them, because I need to de-authorize computers that no longer work, or that I don't use, will I be able to reauthorize the computers i actually want my music on, even if i just de-authorized it? I just don't want to do something I can't redo.

So then no extra steps will need to be taken?
Correct.
And if it doesn't deauthorize computers, then technically for this year I will be able to have ten computers play my purchased music?
Yes. Note that iTunes Plus content doesn't require authorization unless you want to use iTunes to retrieve it from an iPod, iPhone, or Apple TV.

  • HT1420 The instructions on how to authorize a computer need links. I can't find store menu and I can't find authorize this computer.

Hi - Does someone know how to authorize a computer so it will play the songs you've bought from iTunes? I've wasted nearly two hours trying.  It all began when I tried to remove a previously authorized computer which broke down years ago.
Step 1 - Log in with apple ID, go into account and click the deauthorize computers button (that's what they tell you to do if you can't connect the broken computer to deauthorize it).  I managed that.
Result - Now it says I have no authorized computers. Fair enough.  Except I'm trying to reauthorize the one and only working computer we own so it plays the music we've previously bought, and so we can use the iTunes store credit we still have.
Step 2 - Try and reauthorize the working computer - the one I'm typing on - it was authorized earlier today - until I had to unauthorize it to remove the defunct computer  with that deauthorize all button.
Anyway the instructions to authorize/reauthorize a computer say, "Go to Store menu - then authorize this computer. " Sounds simple!
It's at this point I'm stuck - the instructions are insufficient for me.There are no links to redirect you to the correct place to authorize your computer. It just says to go to store and authorize this computer. When I press store it's connecting me to store but I can't find anything that says authorize this computer - I can just see album covers etc. On the right I can see our account but I can't find store menu or an authorize this computer button in that either. If I click on our account it says that we have no authorized devices or computers. I'm logged into our account with the correct apple ID - otherwise I wouldn't be able to read that we have no authorized computers would I? And I've logged in and out several times and tried to refresh the page.
Could someone please send me a link to the Store menu so I can click on the correct page then hopefully reauthorize our previously authorized computer. We are using Windows 7, but I don't know what version of itunes - it's a fairly recent version though.
I wish they would make removing and authorizing computers easier - can't they just put a button on the main screen or something?

  • Migration Assistant problem? : New iMac's iTunes doesn't see the catalog or playlist of my old Mac's songs on an external drive

    So I just migrated from a 10.7.5 iMac 27" from 2009 to 10.9.4 on a 2013 27" iMac with Fusion Drive.
I don't use Time Machine. There are no backups involved here.
Used Ethernet. Only took 20 hours... (BTW, it stayed on "less than 1 minute left" for like 12 hours but luckily I was away and just left it going in hopes it would work... and it did!)
Anyway, back on my OLD iMac, I kept all of my songs on an external drive because my internal drive was too small. So iTunes looked at that drive for the music it was playing. I turned that drive off, even disconnected it, during the migration process because I thought it was confusing it during the first attempt which took 10 hours and nothing happened.
So now it worked, finally. On my new iMac, running Mavericks, I now have two user accounts... the one that was set up when I started the computer the first time, and the new one that transferred over via Migration Assistant. No problem. I can live with that. The only thing is, I would still think the old XML files and library stuff would migrate over... but iTunes doesn't see it. When I open up iTunes, in *either* account, iTunes behaves as if it's brand new. Repeat: the old and new account on the new iMac, both, do not see an old iTunes library which IS on the old iMac. Only the music is on the external drive from what I understand.
I've done this before so I know it's possible. I remember upgrading a long time ago and got iTunes to see my old library... even though some of the music was no longer there. It just puts "!" marks wherever there is no link. I was hoping that that's what I would find when I launched iTunes, but no luck. Even connecting the old hard drive to the new Mac (via USB) doesn't make iTunes all of a sudden "see" the old library. That data doesn't seem to be there. It didn't transfer over. Did it not transfer over because the songs weren't on the internal volume? Should I have left my external hard drive on?
So.... now that I've spent almost 3 days total trying to get this to work, and everything is running... I don't want to have to start over in order to get iTunes to work.  Is there a way I can just drag over some XML files or something from the old computer? I don't want to lose all of the ratings and personal notes and everything.
I should add also that I have like only four songs I've ever actually bought through iTunes. I'm still a bit old fashioned and buy CDs and rip them to Apple Lossless. So I hope it's not an authorization / reauthorization issue because I have like 1400 albums ripped.
Thanks in advance for any help.
    --Jeff

iTunes does not use the .xml it uses the .itl
If you are sure your old library file migrated across (does the file size and modification dates suggest it has?) start iTunes while holding down the option/alt key and guide it to the .itl file to get it to use that one.

  • Iphone 4 apps keep opening and closing

My Iphone 4 apps that other people have gotten for me (because they've already bought them) by signing into THEIR accounts on MY phone keep opening then closing. I cant do the authorize/reauthorize thing because those apps arent on my Itunes account, theyre just on my Iphone. Do i have to delete them and have my friends redownload them on my Iphone?

You should not have apps that are not associated with your account.
Apps are tied to the account from which they are purchased and are no meant to be given to someone else.  They are DRM protected to stop this from happening.

  • Is there a way to authorize more than 5 computers for iTunes or reauthorize all of my computers before 1 year?

is there a way to authorize more than 5 computers for iTunes or reauthorize all of my computers before 1 year?  i have more than 5 cmputers and i cannot get all of my songs/books to play on all of my computers.
alternatively, if i want to deauthorize my computers before 1 year has passed since the last time i did it, how can that be accomplished?

"is there a way to authorize more than 5 computers for iTunes"
    No.
" if i want to deauthorize my computers before 1 year has passed since the last time i did it, how can that be accomplished?"

When I try to play an itunes purchased movie it says I have to authorize this computer. When I put in my log in information it says this computer is already authorized and will still not play the move. I have tried to deauthorize and reauthorize this computer, delete and reinstall itunes and Quicktime and nothing works; the purchased movies still will not play

I'm having the same problem on my new iMac.  First it tells me it's not authorized to play the songs, then when I enter my password, it tells me it's already authorized, but still won't play them.  I tried deleting a song and going to the store to redownload it and got charged for it!  I've got hundreds of songs, so that's not going to be an option.
In addition, I have quite a few songs from a very old Apple ID, one I forgot I even had, I have no idea what the password was and no way to have the system send me a new password because I no longer have access to that email account.
The Mac I just "retired" could play all the songs in my catalog just fine.  This new one won't play the majority of them.
    Help!

  • HT1420 if I deauthorize a computer to clear all 5 authorizations, can I reauthorize the same machine?

I' getting ready to upgrade the components of this authorized computer. Somehow someway I've used all 5 of my authorizations. Probably multiple on this one alone since I beta test operating systems on it. Can I deauthorize all 5 and reauthorize only the one that are in current use without losing my purchases and whatnot?
    Thanks

Yes. Back the content up anyway.
You may be able to deauthorize your computer individually with the Deauthorize Computer function even if it doesn't think it's authorized.

  • I can't erase my authorization in order to reauthorize it. It says "Unable to erase authorization. Please try in some time." However, I have tried on various different days and the same thing appears.

I am not able to erase my authorization in order to reauthorize it.  I follow the steps in the dialog box and it says unable to erase authorization.  I've tried uninstalling the pplication and reinstalling it but that doesn't work.

I have windows 7 so the other answers to this don't work for me.

  • HT1420 i need to reauthorize a computer that no longer works. i understand that in order to do this i need to deauthorize all computers using iTunes. will i lose my library when i try and authorize a new computer ?

i need to de-authorize a computor that no longer works. i undersatnd that i need to de-authroize all computors associated with this acount and then authrorize each computor that i want. question : will i lose my music libary??

No, you won't lose anything. De-authorising only means not allowing a computer to play purchased content but it won't delete the file.

  • I no longer have access to an old email that authorizes a lot of my music on my Ipod nano. How do I reauthorize the music when I can't access old email?

I can't authorize some music from my Ipod nano...it was purchased using an old email that I no longer have access to. When I type in my information to recover my password, it says my information is incorrect. Can I do something to move the music from my old Apple ID to my new one?

You'll want to contact Apple Support by phone to have them walk you through the process of getting this older account cleaned up and your issue resolved.

I need to authorize an new computer but I am at the limit of five and can't deauthorize from old computers as they are either dead or not in my procession.  How do I deauthorize all computers so that I can authorize my new computer?

The page Roger posted is good but was very confusing for me. I'll try to help you out since that article was confusing to me.
In iTunes, Click your name/email that is directly to the left of the search bar.
    Click account info.
Click this button where the mouse is:
(the screenshot is from an older iTunes on windows, but it is the same on the new versions)
    Done!
You can only use that button once per year, so try to remember to deauthorize computers before you get rid of them.

  • How to Reauthorize PS Elements 13 when I couldn't de-authorize it before a HDD crash?

After my desktop PC became increasingly unreliable, I finally cannibalised some of the parts and got a new machine. PS Elements was one of a number of programs that I did not 'deauthorize' before losing access to my C: drive.
I've just reinstalled PS Elements 13 onto a new SSD in my new PC. When trying to open the program I receive a message saying I have already reached the full number of authorizations for my serial number, and I was invited to give (buy?) a new serial number. I seemed to be able to open the program but I only used it for a few minutes.
Is there some way I can get my new machine properly authorized for my copy of PS Elements13?
Thanks for any help or suggestions,
    Regards,
    Steve Jones.

Thanks very much for the quick reply - I'll do so now.
    Regards,
    Steve Jones.

  • ITunes 6.0.1.3 keeps asking me to authorize

I'm running Windows XP Pro SP2 with all the latest patches.
Every time I reboot my system, iTunes 6.0.1.3 asks me to authorize before I can play my purchased music. This does not result in my # of authorized machines going up, but it is getting irritating that I have to reauthorize.
I already emailed iTunes support and they were unable to offer any suggestions.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Try getting rid of the SC info file
