De-authorizing all

So, being the fool that I am, I went around giving my friends music from the itunes store, by just authorizing their account. I also authorized my computer, which I soon installed leopard on with a clean instal, without deauthorizing the account.
What I am asking is this: Can I do something in the account to deauthurize all computers? I can't remember which friends they are...

yes, click on account in the quick links in the top left hand corner of the iTunes Store main screen then you will see a button to deauthorize all. Click it and you are back with 0 computers authorized

  • When I try to authorize my computer for the Ipad, Itunes tells me that I have authorized 5 computers already. Today I have De-authorized ALL and I still get this message. I don't know what to do next.

I de-authorized ALL, but when I plug my ipad in and try to back it up, Itunes tells me that my account has been used on too many computers. This is the only apple device that does that. I have several (phones, touch, etc). Because of this I tunes tells me that I will loose all content on the I pad as well as apps. Why is this happening. Apple has some of the least helpful tech support of any computer oriented company I have ever used. Why I should have to pay for this poor service, I am uncertain. I seems like I can just upgrade the OS to 7 but I would rather not loose the content or have to write eveything down that is on it now just to reload it all after. Maybe I am reading this all wrong. Please let me know.

Not it. Thanks. I tried it, so thanks for the tip, but I get the same error message. That I need to authorize this computer to get the purchases. I guess it's not really an error message. But It will not let me proceed any further. Once again I have deauthorized and this is the only computer that is authorized for this account.
    Then
    Then and last
    Pretty annoying. Any ideas?

  • What are the consequences of De-Authorizing all computers.

I've had an iTunes account for years and its only fairly recently that i've been a bit more aware of the authorizing of computers.
I've hit my limit of 5 but 3 of these are computers that i no longer own and don't have access to. I have made purchases, have an iPod Touch with Apps. What are the consequences of De-Authorizing all computers.
Will it cause me problems with my purchased content and registration of my iPod Touch (don't want to lose any content) or is it just a case of providing my apple id when first listening to purchased content.

You won't physically lose anything. You will just need to reauthorize the computer(s) that you actually have.
    Best of luck.

You would have to purchase a 3rd party program ( not supported by Apple).
The ipod is not a storage/backup device.
Copy everything from the old computer or your backup copy of your old computer.

  • One Computer--Authorized All 5 Times?!

I just got a new Mac (MacBook) and installed the new iTunes to it so that I could sync up my new iPod Touch as well. I downloaded three applications for my iPod touch but it wouldn't sync them with the ipod because it said I hadn't authorized them. So I typed in my password, and it said "You have now authorized 5 of 5 alloted computers." How is that possible? I only have one computer?
I found the article that had me deauthorize the computer and attempt to do that multiple times but that didn't work.
This is frustrating--I thought the transition to a Mac after my hellish experience with a Dell was supposed to be an easy one? I'm already having to troubleshoot.
Thank you so much for your answers!

So, if I authorize this computer, and then move all of the songs from my iTunes on my Dell onto this computer, I won't be able to authorize it will I. So I should wait until I have all my music on this computer?
I understand the idea behind the 5 authorizations idea, but ugh.
Ya, as you said, it is authorizing 5 different "users" really because you could have one computer and five user accounts and authorize each of those user account with the same account and that would count as you five "computers". And when you authorize them, they stay authorized until de-authorized, even if you lose, destroy, sell, etc. the computer or delete the user account, format the hard drive, etc.
You can always copy iTunes purchased content to any computer you want. So having a computer that is not authorized does NOT prevent you from moving those files onto it. They just won't play unless you authorize it.
I think what I would do, if I were you, would be to use the De-authorize all command. Now if you want, go ahead and reauthorize the Dell. And also authorize the new computer. Copy your library to the new computer. If all goes well, you should have 2 authorized and 3 free. If you decide to get rid of the Dell, then de-authorize it again to get one back. But even if you don't or can't, you still have three more until it becomes an issue again.

  • De-Authorizing All PC's?

The iTunes help says I can do this once a year by going to Store > View My Account. However, when I get to my account info, there is no button or directions on how to de-authorize all computers. It says I have 4 PC's authorized because I've reformatted my computer a few times in the last couple years and forgot to de-authorize iTunes before each wipe. Now I just want to clear all that out. Any ideas out there?

This should also help understanding the process.

  • I had 800 songs on my iPhone. My iPhone dumped all my songs and when I tried to re-sync my music it told me I was only authorized 300 of the 800 songs.

I had 800+ songs on my iphone when tonight my iphone decided to dump all of my music. I tried to sync all of my music back onto my iphone and it told me I was only authorized 300 of my songs. All of the songs came from the same macbook in the first place, why the **** won't they all sync now? There's been no change or variation except my iphone dumping songs. How the **** am I not authorized? I paid for all of them! I'm seriously getting tired of apple's overpriced junk. It never works right that and nothing but screws up and screws us as consumers.

I was doing dishes and listening to music on my phone. I tried to change the song and all the music was gone. Then when I plugged it into my macbook to resync it all it told me I'm not authorized all of the songs. It would only sync 300 of the 800 on my itunes that are on my macbook. And it's been the same macbook and same itunes account all along. Never changed. That's why I'm confused. I paid for all this music and now I just don't have it anymore cause they say so... Also, this isn't the first time my iphone has dumped all my music, it's happened twice before, but let me sync all my music back onto it the other two times.

  • I upgraded to a new macbook pro and gave my old macbook to my daughter, we have deauthorized all other computers it will not let us download itunes library with her id it say it already authorized to another apple id... help how do we fix this

i upgraded  to a macbook pro and gave my old macbook to my daughter, we tried to get her itunes library downloaded on it and it said that there was already an apple id assigned to that computer.
we went on the new one an de authorized all computers and then tried to re load her itune library on and it still isnt working. what are we doing wrong?
i called tech support and they are useless until you are willing to pay them 269 dollars to give you the information. ive spent a smal fortune buying apple products over the last 2 years, the least they could do is answer a simple question. Please help

It sounds to me like there are two separate processes being intertwined above:
    1.  Setting up your daughter's MacBook with identifying info; e.g., Apple ID for the user account on that machine.
    2.  Transferring the iTunes library (a very different operation).
Have you used Apple's Migration Assistant to move your daughter's information from her old machine to the MacBook?  That would have avoided this whole issue.
If not, either start the process over and use Migration Assistant, or try to more carefully and precisely define exactly what you did to accomplish this transition.  You said, for example, "there was already an Apple ID assigned to this computer."  That statement almost certainly did not originate with iTunes.

    Thanks

You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. The only other option is to "de-authorize all" from your iTunes account.
      1. Open iTunes on a computer
      2. From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
      3. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
      4. Under "Computer Authorizations" select "De-authorize All".
      5. Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only do this once per year.
After you "de-authorize all" your authorized computers, re-authorize each one as required.
If you have de-authorized all computers and need to do it again, but your year has not elapsed, then contact: Apple - Support - iTunes - Contact Us.
For more information on authorization and de-authorization: iTunes Store- Authorize or deauthorize your Mac or PC.

  • How do I download my previously purchased songs (on a different computer) on a PC running XP? I have followed the instructions but none of it allows me to download my songs. I deauthorized all computers and authorized this one only but it didn't help.

I had to change computers and cannot access my old drive. iTunes shows me the list of songs but I cannot get most to play. Instead I get a message saying "cannot locate"
I have tried following the support tutorials but it still does not allow me to download my previous purchases.
I tried de-authorizing all computers and then re-authorizing this on but it still doesn't allow me to access most of my songs.

It sounds like you might have broken links to your content. Either repair these by putting the files you've recovered where iTunes expects to find them or delete the broken entries then go to iTunes Store > Purchased > Music > Not on This Computer, and click the download links.
If you have an Apple device see also Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

  • Authorized versus Associated.....trying to share content

What is the difference between a computer being AUTHORIZED to play content from an iTunes account versus a computer being ASSOCIATED with a device so it can be synced and play the content? It seems multiple computers can be AUTHORIZED to play content from multiple iTunes account but each device can only be ASSOCIATED with one iTunes account (or is it one computer) at a time. Is that correct?
If so, can all the AUTHORIZED content on a computer (even if from multiple iTunes accounts) be synced to one ASSOCIATED iPad?
I have a Work Computer (PC), Associated Work iPad and Work iTunes Account and a separate Home Computer (iMac), Associated Home iPad and Home iTunes account. I am trying to figure out how to share content? Currently all my content is in my Home iTunes Account / Computer. My Work iPad, Work iTunes Account are both new and I want to share some of my Home iTunes content on my Work iPad.
I am concerned when I read that once a device is ASSOCIATED with an iTunes account it can not be ASSOCIATED with a different account for 90 days. I can't risk ASSOCIATING my Work iPad with my Personal iTunes Account and being locked out from syncing my Work iTunes account on my Work iPad for 90 days.

Okay, I figured it out myself and will document it here so others may benefit.
A computer can be AUTHORIZED to play/use content purchsed from multiple iTunes Accounts. There is a limit to the number of computers that can be AUTHORIZED per account (5 total) but no limit as to how many accounts a computer can be AUTHORIZED to play. Once you have AUTHORIZED all the accounts AND downloaded all the purchased content from each account to a computer, this content can be also be played on any device ASSOCIATED with the computer. A device can only be ASSOCIATED to one computer but one computer can have many devices ASSOCIATED to it. As an example, you can use apps purchased on from multiple iTunes accounts on an iPad as long as the computer the iPad is ASSOCIATED with is AUTHORIZED to use/play the content for each of the accounts. Another example: if you also purchased music from all the iTunes accounts, you could listen to it on an iPad, iPhone and iPod as long as all three were ASSOCIATED with the computer where all the accounts were AUTHORIZED.
    Hope this helps.
