De-muxing an MPEG file

I've been given an MPEG file that is near-perfect. It's the right resolution (720x480 NTSC), but unfortunately it's multiplexed with audio so DVDSPro won't accept it (at least not 1.5, which I what I use). I've tried using Cleaner, and while that does produce an .m2v file that DVDSPro accepts, it's very jumpy (probably due to the many other tasks the machine was performing at the time) and the audio has been removed but does not appear to have been spat out as a file. I could extract the audio in a separate pass, but at this point I'm worried about the video portion. How can I tell if it has been transcoded? Can any utility detect that it's already an MPEG-2 stream and just separate the audio and video tracks? I haven't tried QT Pro yet, so that may be an option. If anyone has done this before, your advice would be appreciated.

Did you try a search of the forums?
Or is it working?
Best bet is MPEG StreamClip.

    WHAT SOFTWARE DO INEED?!
    Please and thank you

    Hello!!
Actually, you need Oracle Spatial or Oracle Locator. Oracle Locator is free on Oracle Express, and you could start with it. Otherwise, if you want to know more, Oracle Spatial comes with Oracle Enterprise, and Oracle 10g gives you a schema that allow you to store, manage and query spatial data through Oracle functions, etc.
To start using MapViewer, considering that you already have some spatial data stored on the database, you could download the MapViewer kit at http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/spatial/index.html.
You could buy the Pro Oracle Spatial book. It´s very good.
    Good Luck!

  • How can I get Safari (on Mac) to play MPEG files on my website?

We have lots of media files and I want to play these files on Safari (on Mac) with QuickTime plug-in or VLC Web plug-in or anyting else...
    These files' properties:
    Extension: mpg
Video codec: MPEG Video (PAL) (Version 1)
Audio codec: MPEG Audio (Version 1) (Layer 2)
    Multiplexed (muxed)
I tried QuickTime plug-in but it does not support the auido codec so the media file was shown with no sound. After a little research I found "QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component" which supports MPEG Audio Layer 2. But it is not free... (I have not tried it, maybe it won't work...)
After that I wanted to try "VLC Web plugin for Intel Mac" but it did not work on my Safari. I heard that this project has not developed for 3 years...
Is there any way to get Safari to play MPEG files?
Note: No, I can not change media files' codec...

If the pages load on one network but not on another, then it's a network problem. Try restarting the hotspot.

  • Can anyone recommend software for converting mpeg files to FCP compatible files?

Currently working with FCP 10.1.3. Would like ability to re-edit / cut and slice mpeg files from other movie editing software (i-movie and studio 15). Would appreciate any recommendations for conversion software that I can download via the app store. Thanks

MMPEG Streamclip. Depends on what kind of MPEG, 1, 2, 4 and whether it's muxed or in VOB files or some other wacky concoction.

  • Why do the MPEG files disappear each time a project is re-opened?.

For instance: I have a project file that I have built/format, written to a .img file and burned successfully to DVD. The size of the file is 7.82 GB. I reopened the file to make small changes and the file immediately reverts to 400MG and all the video files need to re-encode. Why does this happen? My preferences say to save encoded files in the Project Bundle; why do they disappear each time the project file it reopened? I happens to all my projects. I've saved duplicates of my project files. When I inspect the contents I can see that the MPEG files disappear on re-opening. Why? Help please!

    That is why they dissappear.
you need to use compressor to encode your .mov fles into mpeg2 and ac3 assets. Imports these new files into dvdsp instead of the .mov files.
this will make your dvd encoding a whole lot quicker as they only need to be muxed at build time and not encoded.
you also get to preview your real assets rather then your pre-encoded assets.

  • No audio on .mpeg files with Quicktime 7.1.3

    Hello All,
I am not getting any audio on .mpeg files that I play with Quicktime Player 7.1.3, but I get audio just fine on .avi files. Any suggestions?

Jon, I did it that already, but when I want to open de file thru IPHOTO, Quicktime came up automatically. IS there any way to change that on the IPHOTO Settings?
Okay, I understand now. You are looking for a double-click that opens the movie in an alternative player just as double-clicking a photo can be set to edit in an external graphic application. Looks like you cannot do this at this time. It appears the application is "hardwired" to the QT Player. Just checked and while double-clicking on a movie stored in the iPhoto Library at the Finder level works normally, doing so from within the application seems to intercept and re-direct the movie back to QT Player. Looks like it is time to request a feedback change to add this feature to iPhoto. Sorry I couldn't help.
Does any one know if Quicktime support MPEG-1 files?
As to your original question, QT includes "Playback Only" support for standard MPEG-1 files. If you check the data stream info, you are likely to find someone used non-standard audio compression. E.g., AC3 audio is not natively supported by QT. In fact, very few "muxed" audio formats are supported by QT. You could, of course, use MPEG Streamclip to see what audio codec was used and if compatible might be able to convert it to a standard MPEG/MP2 file which should not require reconverting the video data.

  • Quick time v.7.1.3 play mpeg files without sound

From day to an other day, I dont know why, but quick time stop to produce sound and it is affect too the player of Itunes. It is the same effect for all my mpeg files.
My mpeg, codec MPEG1 muxed, files look ok because mplayer OSX play them correctly.

Hi! I'm having a similar issue. Also on QT 7.1.3 and the latest Flip4WMV, all of the sudden a couple of days ago I lost audio on my MPEG files. In addition, when the video first starts, it pauses for 0.5-2s and then starts playing. The audio indicators at the bottom show a quick spike and then nothing.
I opened the Audio MIDI Setup and under the Audio Output section is says Output Is Not Supported! I also tried the Garageband trick and it does not work.
WMV and MP4 video play just fine. It's only regular MPEG files (I assume MPEG-1 and MPEG-2). And all my files play just fine in VLC and MPlayer2.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    TIA
    Curt

  • How can I convert MPEG files (stored on a PC) to use in iMovie on my Macbook Pro?

How can I convert MPEG files (stored on a PC) to use in iMovie on my Macbook Pro?

Get a free app called MPEG Streamclip.
    Available here.
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
Drag your clip or clips into MPEG Streamclip. Then use FILE/EXPORT TO QUICKTIME to export the clips in Apple Intermediate Codec.
Sometimes, MPEG2 clips also require that you install the Apple QuickTime MPEG2 Playback Component. MPEG Streamclip will tell you if you need this. This is available from Apple for $20.

  • Mpeg files no longer work in QT and FCP

I was forced to do an archival install a few weeks ago and, since then, none of my mpeg files will open in Quick Time 7 Pro or Final Cut Pro. When I try and open the file with Quick Time Pro, I get error message -2048. All these video files worked before, and none of them work now. Any thoughts?
    Ben

So I found the VLC program, and it seems to be playing all the mpeg files fine (thank God) so I'm thinking that it really is missing a component. I heard through the grapevine that owners of final cut pro should automatically get the mpeg 2 component, so I technically should have it, but I didn't see it in my quick time component folder. I'll go ahead and list everything I've got in there.
    3ivx D4 4.5.1 for OSX
    AppleIntermediateCodec.component
    DivX 5.component
    DesktopVideoOut.component
    DVCPROHDCodec.component
    DVCPROHDMixer.component
    DVCPROHDVideoDigitizer.compoent
    DVCPROHDVideoOutput.component
    DVCPROHDVideoOutputClock.component
    DVCPROHDVideoOutputCodec.component
    FCP Uncompressed 422.component
    LiveType.component
    Motion.component
I don't know if this is related, either, but I can't seem to take movie files that I've made with Quick Time Pro and my iSight and put them into FCP. It keeps saying "File Error: Unknown File" (even though it's a quick time file). As far as the update goes, I already have QTP 7.0.3. Should I try installing the update again?

  • HELP....AVCHD / MPEG files not playing correctly!

I have been trying to download video that was shot with the new Sony FS100 camera that I'm told are AVCHD or MPEG files to my older Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 timeline, but they are not playing correctly. When I reverse the field dominance, the image plays better but the sound is strange (I was able to speed the sound to 450% and it worked better, but then the balance of the sound from the clip is lost somewhere.).
Any suggestions to make these files play and work correctly? I tried converting them to AVI files but that showed up completely black on the timeline! Anything I've tried either affects the video or audio negatively!  I try either makes the image play or stutterThis was shot in regular SD format, NOT HD, so they should be able to play on  a standard timeline. Can anyone suggest anything to help please? Much appreciated!

Thanks for your reply, I ran it through Media Info. Here are the results:
    Container & general information:
    MPEG-PS: 290 Mib  4min22s
    1 Video stream: MPEG video
    1 Audio stream: AC-3
    First Video Stream:
8833 Kbps, 720*480 (4:3), at 29.970 fps, MPEG video (NTSC) (version 2) (Main@main) (Custom Matrix BVOP)
    First Audio Stream:
    256 Kpbs, 48.0 Khz, 16 bits, 2 channels, AC-3 (DVD-Video)
Please let me know where to go from here. Thanks so much!

  • Way to find out settings for an encoded mpeg file

Not sure if this is possible, but is there a way for compressor to tell me what the quality settings were for an mpeg file I already encoded? I just want to know what the avg and max bit rates were for the file.

If you changed the settings of a preset and didn't save them, then I don't think you can. You can see what the data rate of the file is by looking at it in quicktime (CMD+i), but Compressor will only tell you what preset you used to encode your file (in the History window).
If you saved the settings, you can look in the preset.

  • Could someone please recommend the best program to convert AVI and MPEG files for use (and exporting) into IMovie 11?

Hi - I understand I need to convert AVI and MPEG files for use within IMovie 11. I have one particular file that has a watermark stating "Created with Flip4Mac WMV Demo". Can someone please recommend the best program for a novice?  Thanks!

    Hi Susan,
It is no simpler converting vobs to mp4 than mpg (mpeg2).
There is *always* a loss of quality converting video from one lossy-compressed format to another, e.g. mpeg2 to mp4.
So, if you want to not lose any quality, then converting vobs to mpeg2 (mpg) is the thing to do (since there will be no video/audio re-compression), assuming Lr5 will accept them (sorry, but I do not know). example commands:
    Mac: ffmpeg -i myvideo.vob -sameq myvideo.mpg
    Win: ffmbc -i myvideo.vob -sameq myvideo.mpg
If Lr5 won't accept them, then you can convert to mp4 with minimal quality loss using a command like:
    Mac: ffmpeg -i myvideo.vob -sameq myvideo.mp4
    Win: ffmbc -i myvideo.vob -sameq myvideo.mp4
You may need variations of these commands depending on encoding of vob.
Note: -i means -input-file; -sameq means -same-quality, as much as possible.
ffm... is smart enough to avoid re-encoding, if possible, when -sameq is used, and makes reasonable choices for audio/video codecs based on extension of output file.
Of course, you'll need to download/install ffm... program if not already on your machine, and execute commands in a terminal or command window.
Do keep us posted please .
    Cheers,
    Rob

  • Trying to mpeg file into FCP/is it possible?

    Hello,
Trying to import a mpeg file into fcp.
I pulled it into my project and put it up on the timeline.
Then rendered it but nothing was there.
I can open the mpeg with my VLC player.
I can not open it with my quicktime player.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to bring in this file to FCP?
    Thanks

    To add to the above:
If you don't see a slider in the this Quicktime widow no effect...
And if you do it does...

  • Trouble playing a complete .mov or .mpeg file

    Hello folks.
I'm having trouble playing some downloaded .mov and .mpeg files.
For example, I've downloaded a 50MB file and it only plays about the first 30 seconds of the file. However if I put the same file into VLC, I can see the whole movie (albeit slightly bumpy along the way) which may be a few minutes long.
It doesn't happen with all my files, just some specific ones (and always the same ones) Is there something embedded in the downloaded movie that let's QT only see the first bit?
I'd like to be able to view the whole file in QT 'cos I store them in iTunes for easy filing.
    Thanks in advance...!

I'm having trouble playing some downloaded .mov and .mpeg files.
Do the MOV file containers also contain MPEG-2 video? If so, then you may simply have a "timecode break" problem. This is very common with files downloaded from the Internet. QT is very particular and unforgiving in this regard. VLC is not. Normally I would recommend using an application like MPEG Streamclip (free) to "fix timecode breaks." Unfortunately, I cannot remember if fixing the timecode break and then using the "Save As..." option changes the file in other ways. (Believe it may change the "Open with" setting which you can easily fix afterwards.) Would have liked to check on this before posting but my copy of the application will be busy for another 5 or 6 hours doing conversions.
