De-Registering a Stolen iPod (Shuffle)

Someone broke into my car and stole my new iPod shuffle. I can't imagine how they will re-charge the device without the USB cord, but assuming that a new cord can be acquired the thief should be able to use it. My sister suggested there was a way to DE-register an iPod so that another unauthorized user can't use it. Can anyone tell me the path via Apple Support pages to de-register this stolen iPod?

This is confusing. What if I want to sell my shuffle or any other used iPod that I no longer need? How do I "de-register" the device from my account so the new owner can register it on their account? There has to be a way to do this. I've been looking for this solution for a while now.

  • Changing registered owner for iPOd Shuffle

I just bought an iPOD shuffle as a gift for my friend's birthday. I wanted to give it to him pre-loaded with some of his favorite songs. He's not a registered iTunes user yet. If I register the product to myself and download some songs using my account, can he later re-register the product under his own name and under a new account? If so, how difficult would this be for me to do? (he's not very techno savvy). It wouldn't matter if the songs I had downloaded got erased in the process.

Unfortunately I don't have an answer but I'm wondering the same thing. I noticed this question was never answered.

  • Registering a new iPod Shuffle

I finally was able to download iTunes 7.5, plugged in the iPod and the first screen that comes up is a register the iPod screen. I click on register (Which I can only see the Reg of Register and the iPod Software License Agreement comes up. I can click on the box that I have read and agree with it and the only two buttons i have a choice of is cancel or save. Where is the Continue or Register button. Even the I agree box has the right had side of the sentence cut off and there is no scroll bar on the bottom to scroll over.
I have tried to save my preferences also, but I don't think I can without registering the iPod.
    Please help!!! Thanks ;o)

Yes, set your screen resolution to at least 1024x768

  • IPod Shuffle's serial number not recognized...is this an issue?

I accidentally hit Never Register in iTunes, so I decided to register my new iPod Shuffle at www.apple.com/register. Well, my shuffle's serial number is not recognized. 10 tries, and it doesn't seem to exist.
Is this going to be an issue in the past? I've checked it again what iTunes has, the box and the device, and nothing works.
    Thanks!

well, im having the same problem..when i hooked up the ipod shuffle to te computer using the USB outlet, a pop-up came up and said that it malfunctioned and suggested that we get a new one. maybe thats your problem too?

Your shuffle is not like your iOS devices.  The shuffle itself is not involved (in any way) in purchasing and downloading from the iTunes Store.  Your computer running iTunes is doing that part, and it does not care if you have a shuffle or not.  Therefore, for your gift card, the IMPORTANT step is to make sure you are signed in to the iTunes Store using your Apple ID, on your computer.
Unlike your shuffle, your iOS devices (iPhone and iPod touch) ARE computers.  They are used to purchase and download from the iTunes Store.  That is why they need to be signed in ("registered") to your Apple ID.
Once you have added all of the songs to your iTunes library, whether the songs came from the iTunes Store, music CDs, or other source, THEN you sync your songs to the shuffle as desired.  It does not matter if your shuffle is registered with Apple or not.  That is just a serial number tracking procedure that has absolutely nothing to do with using the shuffle (or with using a gift card to buy songs from the iTunes Store).
It is important that you use the same Apple ID with the iTunes Store on the computer, that you use with your iOS devices.  This is because you can reload previous purchases at no cost.  So, if you purchased songs using that Apple ID on your iPhone or iPod touch, you can redownload them using the iTunes Store on your computer.  Go to the iTunes Store Home screen, and click on Purchased under QUICK LINKS.  You need to be signed in using that same Apple ID.  On the Purchased screen, you can re-download previous purchases made using that Apple ID.

  • Registration of Ipod shuffle on wrong computer

hello I wonder if anyone can help please?
I have registered my nieces ipod shuffle 4th gen on my macbook pro but she wants to register it on her own laptop. How do I fix this please and also how do I take all the itunes off it so it is empty again. My Itunes have all synced to her shuffle.
    thankyou

    Hello thevillage,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Have your niece restore the iPod on her own laptop. This will wipe all content from the iPod and set it back to its original default settings.

  • Replaced stolen iPod - can I delete the old registered one in iTunes?

I have three (3) 30GB iPod Videos (for me, my daughter, and son). My daughter's iPod was stolen a while back and we just replaced it.
I use the latest version of iTunes for Windows on my Windows XP system with one account to manage all 3 iPods' songs, games, and playlists.
Most of our music is from our own CD's, but we've purchased a dozen songs and a few games from iTunes. I have loaded the purchased songs and games onto all three of the iPods.
I have not plugged in the new iPod to my computer yet (I want my questions answered first before I proceed).
Are there any limits to the number of iPods you can download purchased music AND GAMES to from one account and one iTunes library?
If not, then I'll just plug in the new iPod and go on my merry way.
If there is a limit (and that limit is 3), then I'd like to delete/remove the stolen iPod's registration from iTunes before I plug in the new iPod, so that only my 2 remaining iPods and the new third iPod will be registered in iTunes.
Any guidance will be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!
    Sailor Guy

There are no limits on the number of iPods you can connect to your iTunes account. I'm currently loading three shuffles, two minis, and two nanos.
Don't worry about deleting info re: the stolen iPod--iTunes will not "remember" it, unless it's plugged into your computer.
    P.S.--I'm sorry for your loss!

fact is that in order for the Shuffle to be used it
must be registered with iTunes. From what I
understand the serial number is recorded by Apple.
The shuffle is linked to a particular copy of iTunes, but it may not be true that the iPod's actual serial number is transmitted all the way back to Apple. I don't believe that's true. Apple knows about your copy of iTunes (for Music Store purposes), and your copy of iTunes knows about your iPod, but I have read nothing to suggest that there is a final Napster-style hardware tracking link between your iPod all the way back to Apple. And I never remember sending any personal iPod shuffle registration info to Apple. I'm the type that avoids filling out those forms.
It is unlikely that anyone will be able to help track a stolen shuffle. Stories abound on many forums about people who have had $2500 PowerBooks stolen and have no quick way to track them over the Internet, and Apple does not assist you there. Now the shuffle is not even a big-ticket item like that. In the big picture, even the 1GB shuffle costs less than some people's shoes. But we think of iPods as valuable because they provide a personalized experience.
I am not being unsympathetic here. I lost a shuffle last year, due to my own carelessness. The thing is so small I took it out at a restaurant to show a friend, put it down next to me on the seat in a huge wraparound booth table, and forgot about it when we left. I probably knocked it to the floor without knowing it. I inquired with the restaurant the next day but nobody saw it. I assumed another customer found it and took it home (this is when they were new and cool). My main thought? I was glad I didn't buy a $400 iPod. I just went and bought another shuffle. And this week they just dropped the prices on them.
I hope Mindi is luckier than I was, and gets it back!
