De-threading a text

I have a loooooong document done in CS5 on Win 7.
All pages have text boxes that are threaded together, but I want to break the flow at one point so as to have two threaded sections instead of one. How can i do this?

Click the outport on the last frame in what will be the first section, then click inside the frame. You should now see the red overset plus sign. Place your cursor acter the last character you want in that section, Press Cmd (Ctrl on Windows) + Shift + End to select from there to the end of the story. Cut. Click inside the first frame of what is now the new section, which should be empty (but is still threaded to the frames that follow it) and paste.

Tap and hold a bubble, and select More. Put a checkmark beside each bubble you want to copy, then hit the arrow at bottom right. First of all, you should always save you photos on computer like any other digital camera.
Backup on iCloud or iTunes only backup your Camera Roll. The other photos should be already on the computer.
Note: Photos are not saved in iTunes, it's only a conduit between your iPhone and your photo managing software on computer.

InDesign CS3 - Is it possible to thread anchored text across pages?

New to InDesign. Just learned about anchored objects. Have anchored text that is longer than the text it refers to. Text exists in the first column and would like for text to thread to the first column on the next page.

I don't think so. As you have it now, the callout stays with the line the object is anchored to, and it doesn't break and continue at the end of a page -- which is a problem when your callout line is near or at the bottom of the page.
I don't suppose you could create separate anchored frames for each of the text lines in the callout ... It would work for a while, but you would run into problems when editing -- you cannot easily edit a single callout as the frames are not threaded, and if two of these objects end up on the same line in the original text thread, they would appear on top of eachother.
Any of the other guys & gals out there with a good idea?

I am not able to link/thread a text to another existing, empty textbox, instead it creates a completely new block with the width of the grid layout i set up.

i can not link/thread two existing textboxes together when they are placed on my document. As soon as I move them to the side around the bleeding area, i get the normal chain-like link symbol. I tried to set the grid to the background, lock the guides and these things, but nothing helps. What am i overlooking here?

However, this is sadly not the solution in my Case. I just tried again and deleted not only the guidelines, i even set the created columns to 0. That way there is just my margin left, and i still cannot select the text box. I don't understand this behavior.
I'm also pretty sure, that in the beginning this was still possible. I work with the guides showing and set up text frame the way before. But at some point, it was no longer possible. I already reset the indesign defaults, deleted all pages/content and saved it as a new file – still the same behaviour.
And I just found out, what was causing the Problem myself! I made a rectangle on a separate Layer (above all), which hat an inwards stroke (see image below, it was white, but sometimes used as a coloured border around the page). This Object is causing the problem, but I am not exactly sure why. If the Object itself was the problem (but its on a master page, therefore locked) and thus recognized as clicked, the text should be inserted into its shape, i would suppose? Anyway, this is what is causing the problem.
Once this Object is removed, it works as usual.

Threaded Anchored Text Boxes Causing Problems (Crashing)

I have a set of three anchored styled text boxes inside my primary text flow. Indesign seemed to allow this, but is now having trouble after I resized the Primary text frame and pinched these anchored boxes. The documnet is now in overset after the set of three and indesign is crashing whenever I touch them. It's holding my document hostage.
I've tried: Pasting the whole document into a larger formatt file, or Cutting out the set of three and they all shut down the program.
Has anyone else had this problem or am I missing something else?

Overset text / text threading / little red box / shortcut ??

When I have overset text, there is a little red box with an X in it.
I click on it, and then I can "thread" the text into another text box.
However, sometimes it is hard for me to click on that little red box — I click and I click, until FINALLY I get it.
Is there a shortcut ? They put the little red box RIGHT NEXT to another little square.

I think that was the live corners tool? I can't remember, I turned it off ASAP because it interfered with me getting at the overset text indicator. Yup, it was View -> Extras -> Hide Live Corners. Especially frustrating when you're dealing with many small text frames.
Sometimes - especially when someone has not used layers in a document and I'm dealing with a single layer with a stack of twenty overlapping objects - I find it easier to draw a new text frame, then click on its in-port and connect it to the out-port with the red symbol/overset text indicator. Because it's true, it's sometimes awfully difficult to get to the outport to load up your place gun with the overset text.

A better way to cut threading between paragraphs

I would like to see a better, easier way to 'sever' the linked threads of text between flowed text frames.
for example: I have one story that is 'threaded' through four frames. I want to have each of the four frames be the same text, but not threaded. For example, if I cut the thread between frame one and frame two, the text that was in frame two will flow into frame three.
What I would like to see is this: with show frames and show threads visible, I would like to be able to take the scissors tool and "cut" the thread. I think that such a command could be enhanced with a key combination, like "with alt-key" would flow the next frame, and without would leave all frames unchanged, just not threaded.

Hi,
For FI documents generated from GR (MIGO) and IV (MIRO), can we update the text field with certain values from the material documents?
In fact, we would like to always populate the text field of FI documents from sub modules.
What would be the best method?

Hi,
The above given thread is the perfect solution for your requirement.
Defaulting some data in the text field means, either you can use the the Substitution / BTE.
Using the substitution, system not allows you to change the text field in case of any modification you want. But with the BTE you can specify only at the time of the document posting.
BTE is the best option in this case.

Recently started not receiving texts from one person - AT&T user, also HTC One

I recently started not receiving texts from one person. He also has an HTC One (older model) but has AT&T as his provider. We were texting back and forth last Friday morning (11/8) and then he called me and ever since then I have not received a single text he has sent. He is receiving all of mine and we can receive phone calls back and forth, but his text messages are not coming through. We have both tried restarting our phones and I have also tried deleting him as a contact and recreating it however nothing works. I checked to make sure he was not blocked (which I knew wasn't the case since I could receive phone calls from him as well), and even tried turning the "block contact" on and back off. Any solutions would be greatly appreciated. Right now we are using work arounds with google-talk and facebook messenger but it's very frustrated for me to not receive any of the texts that his phone is saying I am receiving.
It had started sporadically over the past few weeks where I would miss a text from him every once in awhile, but now I am receiving nothing. He is the only one that I am having this issue with as I have texted back and forth with multiple others the past few days with no issues.

Hi! I'm also having the same problem. I have an iphone 5 & one person (who also has an iphone 5 but has AT&T as a provider). We had been able to send & receive phone calls & texts until mid-November. Now, we can both give & receive phone calls from each other and she receives my texts, however, I DON"T receive hers. In fact, if I'm in a group text message with her, I don't receive any of the texts that include her, even though I can give/receive texts individually from the others in the group message. The other two in the group message CAN receive both her texts & mine. This is so strange - I was left out of a whole thread of text messages & none of us knew it. They thought they were including me (nothing bounced back) & I didn't know I wasn't receiving them. Since her texting works with both of the others, I'm concluding the problem must be with my phone. Do I have an incorrect setting? I'm not sure what could have happened. PLEASE help!

Advice about OCR text in ID

This project is a total labor of love for my 90 year-old mother-in-law who wrote a weekly column for a small-town newspaper for years back in the 1980s.We are going to do a booklet compilation of her articles for the enjoyment of family and friends. (not to sell) We are looking into different printing options like the local Kinkos (digital printing and binding and another source for low volume hardback book printing.) No details yet.
I have basic ID skills but NO Acrobat experience which I own as part of my CS2 suite. It was suggested in this forum that Acrobat might be the way to go (project scope has changed since then) but I have spent several days trying to learn Acrobat. It's not coming easy for me so I've decided that ID is the program I am most comfortable with for this project. I've been experimenting with methods and doing a lot of research in the forums with threads that seemed applicable to my project.
I would greatly appreciate anyone who has the time to read through my proposed process and point out any errors that could turn out to be a problem with the end printing.
I haven't nailed down the overall design concept and presentation of the book because family members don't agree on things yet. (Ugh, that's a whole different challenge.) But I don't vision a master page layout deal because I really want to immitate the different layouts of the published articles, so I vision each page having its own personality.
So I just want to be productive in doing the grunt work of obtaining the articles and setting up individual pages in ID that might or not be used. Then I will put the final together according to the printer's instructions.
1. I obtain the articles from a paid subscription newspaper archive service and it gives me the option to save and view this PDF in Acrobat. The PDF is a "snapshot" of the newspaper page. Then I crop in Acrobat to just the article I want and print it out and save it.
2. Then I put the printed article on my scanner and push the text button on the front of the scanner. The articles are in different sizes and number of columns but they are all consistent newspaper style—single-spaced, justified columns with a 3 space indent at the beginning of the paragraph. (I know that Acrobat has an OCR feature but I couldn't figure it out.)
3. Then the article appears in Microsoft Word 2000 as an rtf document all in one long page with inconsistent spacing between lines. It does have the paragraph indents and shows the typos or misunderstood characters in green. I fix all the typos etc. in word and it's obvious that there is inherent formatting involved but I have no idea how that happens from a scan or it it could create problems.
4. Last I copy all the text in word and paste it on my ID document guessing at the width of the column I want. Then I click on the overset (from Peter's response on a thread about text flowing) and make the remaining columns. But I want each article to be printed on one page so I don't want to risk it carrying over and ID making another page.The text shows up in ID as Gil Sans instead of Times Roman from Word. No huge deal I just select and change. There are no paragraph indents but I just added 3 spaces. (I know the nudge thing is bad and I promised not to do it again) so I need to understand the formatting.
So any glaring errors in my proposed methods that could make me cry and have to start over?

I very new to using InDesign and InCopy. There are three inexpensive learning resources that I am using: Lynda.com, the online resources of my public library, and this forum. Lynda.com offers excellent multi-media instruction, but it is time consuming to complete the courses (some exceed nine hours). The public library has contracted with certain publishers so that as a member, I have access to the electronic version of those extremely expensive instructional books that go out of date the next time a new version of the software is released (thereby saving me $$$).

That sounds like a good plan.

Okay, there might be some difficulties that crop up doing it that way. When a scanned image is cropped in Acrobat, the entire image remains intact and it is only the viewable area that is cropped--so no information is lost. That means if the article you want is in the center of a three column newspaper, all of the information surrounding that article will remain available.
It is possible to open the original image to Photoshop through Acrobat and permanently delete the extraneous information, but unfortunately I am not using CS2 so can not provide the command path to do so.

If the OCR is not working right, then it may be because it is OCR'ing the entire page, not just the area that was cropped.
Since Acrobat can OCR image files, so I see a couple options. Open the original in Photoshop through Acrobat, crop out all of the unnecessary text, align the article text so that it is in a single column, save it, then just initiate the OCR in Acrobat on that existing page.
Another option is to paste screen prints from the article as it appears in Acrobat into Photoshop, align the text into a single column, save it and then run the Acrobat OCR on that file.

That's from Word, not the scan itself.
The only way I have been able to clean up the garbage-code Word creates has been to paste the text into Notepad, re-copy it, then Paste Special > Unformatted Text back into the same document (or sometimes a new doc). Then it's a manual process of cleaning up the text that is easier than working with the original scan.
For some reason, there have been times when I have used the Paste Special > Unformatted Text directly into Word and it has been almost as messy as the original, so I've opted to just paste to notepad, copy and repaste back into Word. Seems inefficient, but it works.

I have the data sorted before I populate, so they go in numerical order, and i would like the be able to read them from top to bottom, left to right.
I just can't figure out how to either:
a) add multiple columns like I add multiple lines inside a text field
or
b) have multiple text fields linked together to thread the text input from fieldA to fieldB
Any help would be much appreciated.

Importing a large amount of text into InDesign (Newbie question!)

Hello all,
I am new to InDesign and would really appreciate some tips/advice on how best to transfer a large amount of text from Microsoft Word into an InDesign document. I have been tasked with creating a very simple pocket sized book, the content of which will be a series of business Acronyms (700+) and their defintions (just imagine a very simple dictionary). As you can imagine there is a lot of text in the Microsoft Word document so any advice on how to transfer it all as quickly as possible would be really helpful. Or, as the case may be, would it be simpler to just use another programme?
Can you paste/import all - or large chunks of - a word document in one go? If I format a master page will Adobe InDesign automatically paste the text into the required number of pages? Or do i have to do it page by page from a clipboard?
Obviously I am not expecting InDesign to format the text perfectly on each page, I just want to dump it all in one go and then go back and tidy it all up.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

File > Place.... and navigate to the Word file. Show Import Options to allow you to preserve the Word Formatting, or dump it, or map styles to ne styles in your ID document.
If you have a text frame on your master page, put the loaded cursor over the frame area on your document page and watch for the cursor to change so it is surrounded by parentheses, then hold the Shift key and click. If you don't have a master frame (and most experienced users will tell you that more than 90% of the time a master text frame is more hindrence than help if you set your margins correctly), hold the Shift key and click where you want the top of the first column to start.
In both cases, ID will add pages as required to place the entire document and thread the text through all the frames. If using master frames, they will be linked and overrridden onto the document page automatically, if not, your first frame will start where you click and extend down to the bottom margin and succeeding frames will fill the column guides (hence mention of setting your margins correctly).
ID is a professional program and you really need to spend some time learning how it works. One good place to start is the Help files. Another is Sandee Cohen's Visual QuickStart Guide to InDesign. If you prefer video training, Lynda.com has good content.
