Deactivate sms tone

After choosing in the Tones Menu => SMS => no Tones (when receiving SMS) => the iPhone plays a Sound when receiving a SMS ???

Go to Messages - then click on Blackberry Button and click on Message Alerts. in Messages scroll and click on SMS, choose your fav. ringtone for sms alert , set your desired Volume, Count - set it as ur wish, PLAY SOUND - make it ALWAYS
Save it
and Enjoy if you have done as i mentioned above You will be getting the Message alert sounds.

IOS 4.2 SMS tone (possible) bug

Has anyone else noticed that there are SMS tones you can't remove for sent SMS texts? Another user and myself updated to iOS 4.2 this afternoon, both of us using iPhone 4's, and now both of us are stuck with outgoing text tones.
Anyone else experience this or notice this? Even with all tones set to 'off' it still makes a tone for outgoing.

I am ready to throw my phone at the wall I am so frustrated by the annoying whooshing sound it emits after I send a text message. Upon calling Apple Tech Support I learned that there is no control setting to fix or alter the sound made once a text is sent.
I want to individually control what happens when I receive a call, receive a text, and send a text. I have no idea why they are all interconnected. This is a basic phone necessity that has been completely overlooked by Apple.
Those of you who have this same problem I encourage you to post about it so the problem is addressed in the next update. For a short term fix just set the phone to vibrate, you lose the ability to hear calls, but gain sanity that would otherwise be lost putting up with the whoosh sound.

Sms Tone just stopped working (X6)

So all of a sudden the sms tone on my x6 stopped playing when i recieve texts.
im using the same profile as usual, the same tone.
ive tried to restart the phone,
ive tried to remove the battery for a while
i tried to change to different profiles, where all tones works as usual except the sms tone,
ive tried different tones,
also its an original tune and not a downloaded one so.
and while writing i just noticed its actually messing with the blinking menubutton aswell from time to time. Any suggestions?
i want to save the hard reset as a last resort since im guessing that will clear all stuff i have on my phone.

how could clearing my inbox possibly be "most likely the cause" ? or well, dont even tell me, its not like i will understand anyway...
but i gave it a try, deleted about 4000 texts in my inbox
didnt bother with the sent folder since x6 only saves the 20 last sent.
but surprisingly this solved my problem, im really glad that i went here b4 i made a hard reset, also i really appreciate you took your time to help me out.

N73 sms tone stopped working

once again the sms tone on my N73 has stopped working AGAIN. My phone does not inform me at all that I have a new sms. Inorder to check I have to go into the messages section of the menu to check. Here is what I have tried
- Soft reset (settings->restore factory defaults)
- Firmware upgrade (i have the latest version now)
- Hard resets (using some code I found)
- Changing profile settings with different tones
- Changing profiles all together
With the exception of the firmware upgrade all of the above have been tried several times.
Any more suggestions. I am sick of this phone and I am about to throw it away. How is this so hard to fixed

Since you have did, that would normally solve the software issue if there is. It is highly provable that you got an intermittent hardware issue, a visit to Nokia Care Center would be a good idea.

E63- SMS Tone

I wanted to ask, can we set a different sms tone for different contacts? Like we do for call. When a person calls you, ringtone set for him will play. Same way for sms. Can we set contact sms tone?If yes then how? and if no, then is there any third party application to do so? If it is then please give me that application.

I have an E61, so there might be a third-party app for your phone. However, I was looking for the same and I couldn´t find any possibility. You can set up only one message tone per profile. What I did to achieve roughly the effect you want is, I have [whatever is the maximum number] different profiles and I switch between them regularly. There are third-party apps to automate that switching process. However, there´s no telling who sent you a message without looking at the phone.

Does ios 5.1 fix the sms tone bug?

Does updating the iphone to ios 5.1 solve the sms bug in which the sms tone repeated itself as if it were stammering?

I did not have this bug before the update and after.
Try do a reset (Hold Sleep/Wake and Home buttons about 10 secs or more till Apple logo appears)

New iPhone 4 SMS Tones?

I am absolutely in LOVE with my iPhone. It is my life, literally. However, I am truly disappointed with Apple's ability to provide us with decent text tones. I was incredibly happy when they came out with the last update that gave us the new set of tones! I found them to be childish, especially for somebody who works in business. PLEASE come out with new SMS tones; ones that aren't childish that adults can actually play without being publicly embarassed. May I suggest allowing us to make our own, like EVERY OTHER DEVICE out there? At the very least, could we edit the iPhone ringtone presets to be SMS tones? I personally like the Duck ringtone, and if I could use a single "quack" as my SMS tone, I would be one happy camper.

I don't know why apple dont let us choose and customize our own SMS tone and just sync our iphones with itunes easily? each update we are waiting to add this usefull feature.

My sms tones stopped working, why?

My sms tones were working fine and then all of a sudden they stopped. I've checked my alerts, sounds and all that good stuff and still nothing. All it does is vibrate. Does anyone know why this happens? or what can I do to fix it?

My iPhone has the very same problem.
I found that this is only happening with original (old) sms sounds (Tri-tone, Chime, Glass, Horn, Bell ou Eletronic). New sounds work fine (Anticipate, Bloom, Calypso, ...). But when I set to any old sound, it only vibrates.
I've already reseted the iPhone. Didn't work.

IPhone 3GS SMS tones

Will I be able to change SMS tones with the new iPhone 3GS????
and changing it without doing anything non-apple to it. I just want to use my own mp3 tone.

I Recommend that Apple allows one to change the SMS message alerts (Audible, Vibrate, and visual).
I work at True Call International, who issues pagers to everyone. Recently the company I work for has implemented the company alert system to include SMS addresses of people who wish not to carry a pager and phone all the time.
However, until Apple addresses the SMS issue, I can't see the iPhone as an approved pager replacement device.
Does anyone know of any "Feedback or Suggestion" pages that will get to the great minds at Apple?

Set ringtone/sms tone

Shouldn't being able to set a song as a ringtone or sms tone be a feature on this phone (the same way you can set a picture as a wallpaper)?
Will this be included in future iOS updates? It's such an obvious feature!

You can create a custom ringtone manually with iTunes on your computer for a song or sound file that does not include DRM protection, and there are a number of 3rd party utilities that provide for this with some being free. Apple has a free ringtone maker app called Ringer available via their new computer app store for the Mac. A ringtone must be less than 40 or 30 seconds in length. The Ringer app allows for choosing the segment of the selected song to be used as the ringtone and listening to the chosen segment before creating the chosen segment as a ringtone which is then placed as an available ringtone with Ringtones under Library in the iTunes source list along with being available as a custom ringtone to select under the Ringtones tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes. The feee Ringer app and those like it can be used with a song or sound file that does not include DRM protection only.
There is no option to create a custom tone to be used as an SMS/MMS tone - not at the present time anyway. Since this is a user to user help forum only, no one here has any idea if this option will be included with a future iOS update and if so, when.

IPhone SMS tones

For those that have an iPhone 3G with the latest firmware/software, can you choose your own NON apple SMS/email sound?
I'm used to this feature on all other makers (Blackberry, Nokia, sony ericson, motorola) that it bugged me so much I didn't buy a 3G iPhone earlier this year.

Apple - are you listening to your customers? We want to ability to change to a non-Apple standard SMS tone. They just aren't loud enough in some environments.
Also - who can I not make sound profiles so at 9 pm my ringers turn off on their own. And so I don't get emails all night long. Then again turn on at 7am. I need to remember each night to turn off the email and sms volume. i can not turn off the ringer because I need to get phone calls and I use the alarm feature on the phone to wake me up.
