you can create a validation where you check the company code and the business area and block the process of posting accordingly.

    I'm getting involved in a project regarding the use of business areas in SEM-BCS and I've a few questions and therefore I need some help, namely:
    1 - If a business area is not considered a legal entity how the consolidation of investments works in this scenario? If there are no participation % between business areas how those the system works regarding the CoI?
    2 - Can you provide some documentation regarding the use of business ares in BCS, I've search times and times for some information but I haven't found nothing besides the use of companies and cost centers. Even if the documentation is not "SAP" it will help a lot.
    3 - Is there any special procedures in customizing when using business areas?

    Actually, very much depends on your requirements.
    For example, now I'm working on blueprint with the approximate such a scenario:
    - legal consolidation (by companies) with some additional analytical characteristics, by which I don't have to construct the balance sheet (meaning that these chars I may present in the data basis simply as subassignments).
    - management consolidation - by profit centers and business areas. Classically, I had to use here a matrix consolidation, since I had requirements to publish B/S by PCs and BAs. However, I know that my BA is very specific. There are no activities BETWEEN BAs (means that I may use subassignments, not matrix), but there are activities WITHIN BAs (meaning that I have somehow to eliminate these internal volume).
    This decision implies TWO data bases with double efforts for configuring the system and double work for end users.
    BUT, there is another temptation to use just one data basis with matrix Company-Profit Center and some subassignments. The decision to be made actually depends on your client requirements your understanding of the situation.
    Don't expect to have any documents (SAP, or non-SAP) related to BA consolidation in public. They might just don't exist, or be confidential.

    Hi,
    One option, you can create role via Tcode PFCG for each user/company which do not have business area. You can disable the business area in authorization tab.
    One more option you can greyed or freezed the business area field for the company which do not have the business area by using Tcode OBC4. You can suppress the business area field for each GL that been used by the company code. In other words, you create special field status group for the company and suppress the business area.

    In fact i didn't tell you the scenario.
    2 company codes currency is SGD.
    This they want to do consolidation without new gl & EC-CS.
    This is where the hicup is,  we have to choose Business area consolidation only.
    But the question here is should we need to have 2 chart of accounts.
    In my view there has to be only 1 chart of accounts.
    But my doubt is whether we need Group chart of accounts or not in this scenario.
    Please throw some light on this friend/friends.

    In what ideal business case/industry one should set valuation area at company code level when SAP recommends valuation area must be set at Plant level ? in other words..what is the practical purpose of Valuation area at company Code level?

    Think that valuation area link with records in table MBEW. So, if you have a company with 3 plants, and you have a single valuation for all company, in 3 plants the valuation of materials are the same, with their implications in valuation of stock and valuation of margin in sales (remember that this value can flow -really, use to flow- to condition VPRS in SD, well see SAP Note 1365939 - VPRS logic and Customizing settings in SD and SAP Note 547570 - FAQ: VPRS in pricing for more details). If you do a valuation different by plant, stock and margin calculations are different.
    What are the elements that you must considerer?
    1. If the materials is purchased, think if the same material have different conditions (different conditions in MM, for instance, indirect costs as shipment costs, different vendor with meaningful differences in prices or discounts). It's indiferent that it is a raw material or a material that you can sell. The raw material will work in product costing as an item in BOM. First of all, considerer the impact in stock value, second think how is delivered the materials to customer from plants and their impact in profitability analysis. If there are meaningful differences for the same material between different plants and you give the same value in all company, depending of the mix perhaps your customer is fooling himself about this issue.
    2. If the material is manufactured, talk with your CO consultant and what kind of impact could have different routings, BOM and prices of raw materials between plants. Same considerations for valuation of stocks and margin.
    Finally, in the page 10 of the document you can read
    Valuation must be at Plant level in the following cases:
    u2022If you want to use the application component Production Planning (PP) or Costing
    u2022If your system is a SAP Retail system

    Please click on the change layout screen button on the screen of FBLN5N report. then select the fields customer code and customer name from the right hand side table and drag it to left hand side table.
    After that run the report again. it will appear. please assign points.

    The return values which you have maintained for the decision parameter are not acceptable that's why it's throwing that error.
    Your PPMOD feature is based on company code and functional area.
    Try to maintain it as follows:

  • Valuation area is company code

    Hi experts,
    In our scenario, we have 2 plants and one storage location. only one balance sheet is preparing for both the plants( as is ).
    My question is, if only one balance sheet preparing for both the plants, can I select the valuation area as  "COMPANY  CODE'" ?
    If I change the valuation area as company code level, then, what are the changes I find when compared to plant level.
    Also tell me how can I change the valuation area.
    can anybody tell step by step.

    In SAP, you need to choose either Plant Level or Company code level to valuate your material stocks. Once you've set, it is not possible to switch the valuation level from plant to company code or vice-versa unless data conversion (material master's accounting data) is carried out again.
    We recommend to setting material valuation at Plant level because you can have separation set of account determination and stock type at each plant.
    Also it is important that stocks must be valuated at Plant level,
    when u implement the PP module the default valuation level will be PLANT
    plz read the note at this SPRO > Enterprise structre> Definition>Logistics - General>Define valuation level  (at left to valuation level)

    i am using ECC 6.0. i copied depreaction area from USA and tried to assign same to my company code but it is geving following error:
    Inconsistency between FI company code 1234 and chart of deprec. 123C
    Message no. AC481
    You tried to assign chart of depreciation 123C to company code 1234. According to its Customizing definition, this company code manages parallel currencies.
    The chart of depreciation does not contain a corresponding depreciation area for each of the currency types that are defined in the company code.
    System Response
    This assignment is not possible.
    Procedure
    1. Check the currency types of the company code.
    2. Specify a corresponding depreciation area for each currency type.
    can any one give me solution for this problem

    in this case how can i have the FD32 screen differentiated for different company codes?
    say for an european company code, i will have the document currency EUR & for the same customer in US, i will have it as USD.
    can i have this segregated?

    When I use t.code KS01 (Create cost center) some fields require to enter as business area field. But I want to the fields do not require.

    Not only in cost center master, but you would also face this in other masters like Internal Order, Asset Masters etc
    Go to OBY6 and check if "Bus Area wise Financial Statements" indicator is on... If you really need, keep it on.. Else, switch it off
