"Deactivating" button in Photoshop CS4 is dimmed out preventing deactivation

I want to deactivate Photoshop CS4 on an Imac. Unfortunately I mistakenly uninstalled instead. Realizing my mistake I reinstalled the Photoshop but now "deactivate" button is dimmed out and so I can't move on to the "deactivate permanently" button which would complete the job.  Does anyone know the way round this?

Then this is a well documented error and the steps listed in http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/error-licensing-stopped-mac-os.html should resolve your difficulties.
If you continue to face problems with deactivating please contact our support team.  For the best assistance, I recommend our chat support at http://adobe.ly/yxj0t6.  Our chat representatives can provide a personalized experience to resolve your issue.

  • My Photoshop CS4 crashes constantly, out of the blue!

I have a relatively new Mac Pro 3.32 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon with 12 GB of ram. I'm using OS 10.6.4. My previous computer was a PowerMac G5 on which I used CS2 for about 7 years with perhaps a couple of crashes in all that time. My Mac Pro with CS4 has crashed 4 times today alone! Is the Intel Mac junk or is it the CS4 that is crap? I'd go back to CS2 if it would work on this computer. No chance in He%# I'm upgrading to CS5!!!!! Adobe don't seem to care and just want your money. That's the problem with monopoly's!

Which ones of the basic attempts at trouble-shooting have you taken so far?
    Boilerplate-text:
As with all unexplainable Photoshop-problems You might try trashing the prefs (after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences You’ve changed) by pressing command-alt-shift on starting the program or starting from a new user-account.
System Maintenance (repairing permissions, purging PRAM, running cron-scripts, cleaning caches, etc.) might also be beneficial, Onyx has been recommended for such tasks.

Weeding out bad fonts never seems to be a bad idea, either. (Validate your fonts in Font Book and remove the bad ones.)

  • Photoshop cs4 pull out "indented writing" from old book

Hey everyone, Im new to not only photoshop, but to the forums as well. First off I would like to give my thanks in advance for any help that is provided, if it was for people like you id prob go crazy. i have an extremly old book which is worth a substancual amount of money and i have photographed the book page by page and have noticed some indented writing on several pages. given the age and placement of this book i need to know what the indented wring says. i was wondering how i could use photoshop cs4 to bring out that writing and possibly color it in so it was then, readable. again any help is extremly appericated.
    Thanks,
    Glenn

    Glenn,
It appears that you wish to enhance annotations on the pages, that are very light, and are not showing well enough in your photographs.
I would look at using the Threshold Adjustment, to see if you can extract that info. Go very slowly with the settings, and study the results carefully. If you can do what you want, you might be able to use that image, adjusted, as a Layer in your photographs, and explore both Blending Modes and also Layer Masks, to get those annotations onto the "page" with the normal type.
I had to do a series of shoots for some of William Faulkner's original manuscripts. As has been suggested, I used a piece of optical Lucite to both flatten, and to hold the pages. The lighting on the copy stand had to be adjusted a bit, as we could not force the spine of these notebooks in any way, so that the opposite pages and covers were up higher. Not an easy task, and we had to fight any/all reflections by those angle adjustments. Normally, 45 degrees and broad/flat is best, but we had to fight that angle, so as to not get any shadows.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Photoshop CS4 trial setup exits right after executing

Hi. I just did a clean install of Snow Leopard on my late 2006 macbook. Then I tried to install Photoshop CS4 to try out CS4 because I've been using CS3 before.
The setup just exits after I opened it.
    Anybody else experiencing this?

    anyone?

  • Photoshop CS4 slowdown when Lightroom is open...

    Hey everyone,
I am using Lightroom (x64) to manage and sort my files and my typical workflow has me editing in Photoshop (CS4 x64) from out of lightroom. I noticed at first that when I tried the new healing brush that it was a lot slower than the CS3 version of the brush. One day I was editing out of Bridge and noticed a significant speed boost while using the brush, it was working like the previous version of the brush. I pointed the finger at Lightroom, so I opened it and tried editing out of LR again. Same slow down. The only thing I can think of is that they are both using openGL and there might a conflict somewhere? LR works fine by itself and PS also work great while LR is closed. And PS works fine as long as it isn't using any of the new openGL (assumption) features, like the healing brush. If anyone else has been experiencing this and has found a solution I am all ears. My system is a Q6600, 8gb ram, ati Radeon 3850, all drivers are up to date.

In terms of RAM usage, I am fine, it's totaling around 6gb when both are running.
In terms of OpenGL, I just assumed it was. I am using LR 2 and thought that was the reason for the speed of the adjustment brush and thumbnail sizing. It seems visually obvious to me when either PS or LR does a redraw using openGL. Please correct me if I'm wrong, as I can't seem to find any documentation.

  • Photoshop CS4 won't open Crashes immediately. Out of ideas

    CS4, Windows 8.1
My graphics drivers are up to date. I've not installed any third party items for PS.
I've uninstalled, used clean script, reinstalled several times. ran the repair license (multiple times), changed flexnet licensing from manual to auto and back again during the many tries of repairing. Rolled back the date as Adobe mentions. Rebooted many times. Checked my fonts against the 'trouble list' though none have been installed in weeks. Deleted the preferences. Long list of things I have tried.
I'm out of ideas. Computer is about 6 weeks old. I installed it with no issues then. Program worked a few weeks. Yesterday I tried opening it and it crashes immediately. It opens enough that I can see the main screens then the error comes up. The only message is "adobe photoshop CS4 has stopped working" " A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program......" No details are provided as to the issue. The only option is to close. I rebooted in safe mode and got the code of 148.3. Repairing the license with the adobe fix still doesn’t correct it.
Any ideas on what else to try?

  • Deactivating a photoshop cs4 trial license

Does anyone know how to deactivate a photoshop cs4 trial license?
Basically i need to deactivate this license so i can use the creative suite 4 i have just bought.
So every time i try and open the photoshop application, a window opens saying 'license expired'.
Plus there is no 'help' option at the top of the screen in order for me to deactivate the license, the only option
reads 'photoshop' containing 'hide this' or 'hide all'.
The adobe support team have been useless in trying to help me.
I would be very grateful if someone knew of how to go about deactivating this license.
    Regards.
    Tom Haywood

Hi again, i have followed your advice but the same thing is happening again. All of the other programs on the
suite are working apart from photoshop. which keeps saying the license has expired.
Do you have any other suggestions please?
    Thanks.

  • Photoshop CS6 Trial wipes out CS4 camera profiles

I donwloaded the trial Photoshop CS6 (Mac 10.8) decided not to buy right now, and uninstalled. However, that process wiped out my Photoshop CS4 camera profiles in Bridge (ACR) and left only 4.6. How do I get my profiles back?

Are you installing from a DVD?  If so can you please try copying the install files to your desktop to see if you receive any disc errors.
Without having the PDApp.log file available then the next steps would be to perform general troubleshooting steps.  Troubleshoot system errors, freezes | Mac OS 10.x | Adobe software - http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/troubleshoot-system-errors-freezes-mac.html is a good guide regarding general steps which will resolve most software issues.

Do you use your Vaio Update for updates, kingdom? If so, check in there to see if you're also up to date on your video card drivers and BIOS. (Your downloads page at Sony UK shows some updates for those there, so we'd better check on them too.)

  • Remote deactivation of Photoshop CS4

I use two Macs, on which I use Photoshop CS4 but one has recently crashed so I cannot deactivate CS4 on that machine and therefore cannot activate it on my replacement Macbook Pro.
Is it possible for Adobe, remotely, to deactivate CS4 on the "dead" machine for me so I can use CS4 on the new one? it's already happily installed.
If so how do I get this done?
    Thanks
    Paul

We cannot deactivate the serial number on a dead computer. You can contact Adobe Customer Support for assistance. They will help you with the activation. You can reach them real quick via the chat option. They will activate the product for you.
    Hope it helps,
    Bobby.
