Deactivation of CS5.5

Hello,
I need to deactivate CS5.5 from my hard drive so that I can put it on a new drive which I am installing on the same computer.  I am unsure whether to use the suspend or permanent deactivation option.  Can anyone answer this for me?  Thanks cwc

Make it permanent. This option deactivates and removes the serial number from the old drive. If you give away the old drive without formatting it,there's a chance it could be reactivated without your knowlege or permission.
If you place the old drive in another PC, you simply re-enter your s/n and activate. You get two seats.

  • Issues deactivating my CS5 Suit while trying to uninstall it

I need to format my macbook, so I'm having issues deactivating my CS5 Suit while trying to uninstall it, to reinstall it after the format has been completed. Anyone know whats going on?

you must deactivate before uninstalling and reformatting.
    open a cs5 program>click help>deactivate.
if you're unable to do that, request an activation count reset by contacting adobe support by clicking here and, when available, click 'still need help', https://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html

  • I deactivated my CS5, reformatted HD and installed Win 8.1, installed CS5 again, but now it will not update it.

I have made sure they are all running as Admin. I even changed compatibility mode to Win 7 on Photoshop and Dreamweaver which is what I was running before with no issues, Customer Support cannot help. Help?

  • Deactivation with CS5

I am going to be assisting an employee who wants to move their CS5 install to their new PC.  Do I need to have them deactivate every single Adobe product they installed, or can we just deactivate the license key once through Photoshop, for example, and move on?

De-activating from any 1 application will work, say PS CS5, in this case. De-activating 1 application(part of suite) will de-activate the entire suite.

  • Deactivating Photoshop CS5

How do I deactivate Photoshop CS5 and move it to a new computer when I do not know the Adobe account that the original was activated under. The person that did the original activaton no longer works here. I know that I can deactivate it from the old computer but then how do I get it back?

then reinstall ps cs5 and activate with your serial.
if you need the ps cs5 installation files and if you follow all 7 steps you can dl a trial here:  http://prodesigntools.com/all-adobe-cs5-direct-download-links.html
    and activate with your serial.
if you have a problem dl'g, you didn't follow all 7 steps.  the most common error involves failing to meticulously follow steps 1,2 and/or 3 (which adds a cookie to your system enabling you to download the correct version from adobe.com).

  • My CS5 serial number is 'not valid'. I have deactivated the program on old PC.

I want to transfer PS to my new mac.  I have deactivated PS CS5 from old computer.  I have downloaded the trial version of PS to my mac.  I cannot license it, as the message is 'serial number not valid'.   Any suggestions?

    Hi thompsonclair
CS licenses are platform specific so a Photoshop CS5 Win license cannot be used on a Mac.  You can upgrade from CS5 Win to CS6 Mac or may wish to consider a Creative Cloud plan which can be used on Mac or Win.

  • Bridge CS5 will not open on new computer

I deactivated ps cs5 on my old computer and used my ps cs5 upgrade disk to install it on my new win 7 ultimate computer. It should be clean install but I did migrate many files from the old win xp computer with windows easy transfer. Bridge will not open and I can not find it listed in my programs. I tried to run my old cs4 upgrade disk and it shows that I have bridge cs4 installed even though I never installed ps cs4 on this machine. Is it possible that some old migrated files are now blocking bridge cs5 from opening? I tried to reset preferences by holding the ctrl key and clicking on bridge but nothing will open. Would this be solved by upgrading to CS6 or will I still have the same issue if bridge cs5 does not open? I tried to run the bridge cs5 update but it will not install. I do not get any error message at any time. Adobe support advisor found an unnamed error but can not recommend a solution.

I ran the creative suite cleaner and removed all files from cs3, cs4. But they are still there listed in c>programfiles (x86)>adobe. I can see adobe bridge cs4 and adobe bridge cs5. when i run bridge.exe from adobe bridge cs5 folder it opens bridge cs5. but i cannot open bridge while ps cs5 is open. I can't seem to delete the cs4 files as it says i need administrator rights, which are somehow not available.
Update: Somehow it did work, even though the cs4 program files are still there. I opened mini bridge from within cs5 and it said something to the effect that it needed to close cs4 bridge and use cs5, i clicked okay and my files were displayed in mini bridge cs5. I closed that and then clicked the bridge icon from within ps cs5 and bridge cs5 opened. I guess I changed the preferences somehow. Thanks for your answer and suggestion, which may well have been the solution or it led me to the correct step. The big point is that I avoided the big reinstall I dreaded after two days of getting cs5 set up with all plug-ins,etc installed. Thanks for your help!

  • Upgraded hard drive, now only Photoshop from CS5 works and other programs do not

I recently changed out my hard drive for a bigger one during a computer upgrade.  I deactivated my CS5 through Photoshop, and then changed out the hardware.  I brought the programs back over and now only Photoshop works and the other programs of CS5 do not work.  Is the license unique for each one?  I assumed I only needed to deactivate one member of the CS5 family.  What can I do now that I have a new hard drive?

If by "brought the programs back over" you mean you somehow transferred them from the old drive to the new one, transferring does not usually work.  Adobe programs need to be installed using installations files.  If you need to you can download those files thru the following page: http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-product-downloads.html

  • CS5: double-click on file does not open the file

If Photoshop is closed, double-click on a file will always successfully launch Photoshop and open the picture.
If Photoshop is running, double-clicking on a file will activate Photoshop, but very often the file does not open. It works from time to time though, and that seems to be on a random basis.
Opening a file through the Open command will always work.
I am working with 10.6.3 on a loaded Mac Pro.
Did anybody experience this difficulty? Any help would be appreciated, before I take more drastic measures like reinstalling the software of worse than that. I've already done the usual maintenance operations.

Caustic waltz, while brief, may have hit the nail on the head. If you do not want to continue this thread, you can search the forum for existing posts about Snow Leopard and file-program association confusion. Snow Leopard changed some things and that might be your issue.
More simply, do your image files have extensions? (.PSD, .JPG, etc...)
    Hello Marian:
While browsing through my Adobe account, I saw that you took the time to leave a comment two days ago. While it did not solve my problem, I will mark your comment as "helpful" for several reasons. It could have been a cause. And I will add politeness, courtesy and language precision. I'm an old guy and I quite value those elements.
True, Snow Leopard changed changed the way files are associated to applications. Thank God! Here in our small office, we do a lot of cross-platform transfers and finally it works seamlessly. A good description of the new file identification system can be found here.
Now, here are the reasons why Snow Leopard cannot be put at fault in my case:
    • If Photoshop CS5 is not launched, double-clicking on any psd, tiff or jpeg file will launch it and open properly.
    • If Photoshop CS5 is already running, double-clicking on any psd, tiff, or jpeg file will activate Photoshop CS5 but will not open.
This points at either a bug or damaged Photoshop CS5, or maybe a damaged OS. Don't forget that out of maybe a hundred apps, this is the first time I meet with that problem. Of course, the easier course, but by no means guaranteed to work, is to presume that Photoshop CS5 is damaged or that its installation did not work properly. So I did the following things:
    • I deactivated Photoshop CS5 and uninstalled it.
    • I ditched all remaining files related to CS5, CS4, CS3, CS2, CS... yes I know, but then you know as well as I do0 that getting really rid of Photoshop is a daunting task. It took me almost two hours, but I am reasonably sure that the cleaning job was complete.
    • I reinstalled Photoshop CS5.
Now everything works just fine at least for the time being. Time will tell, of course, but I think that the problem is solved.

  • Reactivate CS5 Suite? How?

Hi folks, I had a failing harddrive so I deactivated the CS5 Suite and used the Suspend option rather than the complete deactivation. I cloned my boot drive and restarted. The suite does not ask me to activate, but Adobe Acrobat won't start saying it is part of a suite and needs to be activated with another part of the suite. Once PShop is running, Acrobat will run but it won't run on its own. However under the Photoshop menus, I see no option to activate or reactivate the suite....
It still gives me the option to deactivate....
    Stumped... :-(

Thanks steve. That would be a real Pain since it takes a full day to
reinstall my Dreamweaver extensions. I'll muddle along till I find if I am
going to the .5 upgrade. Otherwise I may try to deactivate completely
including the serial number and then try to activate...

  • How do I deactivate CS5 on broken computer

How do I deactive photoshop CS5 on a computer that is no longer working so that I can free up my license to use on a new computer?

This is another example of where activation has the opposite effect to the intended one: inconveniencing legitimate users rather than preventing piracy.
Which it fails to do anyway. But I guess it does inconvenience the pirates, so in fact, it has the same negative affect on everybody!
Curt, I was wondering where you were coming from with your idea, but I was thinking in terms of hooking up the old drive on another system using the other system's OS.  But you are thinking that it might boot from the old drive, if the failure was with another component. Not a bad idea, and it would very likely work - especially if you boot to Safe Mode to save confusing the heck out of the OS with inappropriate drivers.
Yes, I shall add that to my mental database of how to get round computer disasters.

  • How to Photoshop to work correctly on my new computer

I just installed CS5 Designer suite on my new mac book pro from my old mac book. I deactivated the CS5 suite on my old computer, but am now getting an error when I start and close Photoshop. When I open PS it says "Could not synchronize the color settings because of a program error" and when I close PS it says "Could not save preferences because the file is locked or you do not have the necessary access privileges. Use the get info command in the finder to unlock" which didn't work. How can I get PS to work correctly?
    Downloading, Installing, Setting Up

No, you do not need to have the older version installed, but it does play a role in getting the CS5 software up and running.  When you install CS5 and go thru the activation process, as poart of that you will be asked to select the qualifying version (CS3 in your case) and input the serial number for it as proof that you qualify to use the upgrade.
If CS3 is already installed then the installarion would normally recognize that and you would not be asked to specify the information I just described.  But it is more work to get CS3 installed than it is to just specify it as I describe above.

  • TCS4 + CS5.5 + *3* machines + Activation/Deactivation - Question Jumble

I apologize in advance if this seems convoluted -- I have *tried* to make sure I'm saying only what needs to be said :-) Any help would be appreciated. [Note: I *did* try to 'chat' with a representative, but didn't even get through the deactivation question before they got stuck in scripted answer limbo.]
On machine #1, I had previously installed TCS2.5 and CS5.5 (Design Standard). Thus I Acrobat X Pro (amongst many other apps, including Acrobat 9 Pro Extended) available.
I recently installed TCS4 on machine #1 (which includes Acrobat XI Pro), but Acrobat X Pro and Acrobat 9 Pro are no longer available (error message: action is only valid for products that are currently installed).
    I also installed TCS4 on machine #2.
I now need to use TCS4 on machine #3 (and machine #2). I can live without it on machine #1 for the time being, but would like to be able to use it again later.
    So...
I need to deactivate TCS4 on machine #1 and activate it on machine #3. According to a page in the adobe help, I should be able to do this *without* removing the software from machine #1.
    Question: Is that correct?
Question: Is there a time limit within which I have to reactivate, or am I good anytime?
Question: Is there a limit to the number of times I can deactivate and reactivate the software, and/or a minimum period between deactivation and reactivation?
When I deactivate TCS4 on machine #1, I will no longer have Acrobat available.
Question: Can I *reinstall* Acrobat 9 Pro (from the TCS2.5 install) or Acrobat X Pro (from the CS5.5 install)?
Question: Will installing this older version of Acrobat interfere with the Acrobat XI Pro that is already installed (which I will want to be able to use again later)?
In a nutshell, I'm doing this because I need to keep confidential client information on machines #2 and #3 (cannot share the information on the same machine). They are the main clients for the TCS software. But, I will also need to use the TCS software, on occasion, for other clients using machine #1 (again, cannot share info on common machines). So... I need to be able to turn off the software on one machine and turn it back on on the other. (As you can infer, the issue of Acrobat versions (and other adobe software) applies to each machine -- I want to be able to keep two machines running current software, and have the third running my licensed extra copy of Acrobat.)
    Thanks all :-)

Installation and activation are separate and distinct actions, completely independent.
You can have installed Adobe software that is deactivated - it's still fully there but won't run.
Don't tie yourself in knots - the easiest thing to do would be to contact Adobe customer service and have them reset the activation counts for all your product serial numbers to zero.  Then you can reactivate them exactly on the systems you want (just start the programs to do this).
