Dead 875p board

I have a problem. I have emailed support about it but I thought I would post in here.
I recently bought a Model#: MS6758010  which is the 875P Neo-LSR Retail .  I have just installed Windows XP Pro and had it up and running for a few days when the northbridge fan blew up. Sparks came flying out (case open) and I figured out that two of the three lights the northbridge fan has had blew up. So since the system would not boot I begin to look at the chipset for damage and came to the southbridge which has a hole in it. I am not sure how this happened but it happened at the same time when the northbridge blew out and the system went dead.  I need advice on what to do. Do you think MSI will honor its product? Should I send it to them or send it back to www.newegg.com where I purchased it?
I hope an MSI representative responds with an answer for me in this thread. Please help.

It looks to be an isolated case as my board has been problem-free. (MSI 875P Neo-FIS2R)

  • Other 875p boards have problems too

I went to the forums of some other board makers and it seems as though all of the 875p boards have some problems.  The asus forum is saying not to buy the p4c800 deluxe because they are changing some of the peripherals on it already.  The abit board has raid and memory problems, and as a former abit user I can say that it took forever for abit to release a bios that actually allowed the board to work like it should.  The gigabyte GA-8KNXP board also has ata, fan, raid, and memory problems.
I'm not sure how often the others are releasing a new bios but I like the way MSI has been working to eliminate the issues with the 875p fis2r.
Just thought you would like to know that if you are thinking of getting rid of this board.

Makes nape look a bit pro msi, right :D
Anyway,he has a point,if u check forums almost every canterwood/springdale board has still its unique probs.
But MSI was worst that time, starting with that THG (which THG not really discovered without help as some ppl say..)FSB OC thing together with low mem bandwith and bios probs.
If 1.5 keeps what its looking right now we are up the other brands.
I wont say "oh,I never buy a MSI board again",its just some kind of russian roulette, sometimes very brand has it POS.
So if 1.5 really fixed most probs and the other ones hopefully will be fixed soon(manual CAS setting pls) we can say it could have been worse.
Best way is to wait until expierences with boards of every brand are in the popular forums so u can take a look. Never buy new kind of hardware just when it was released, there is always a risk of buying some pos.
I dont trust reviews anymore, look at the boards

  • Are all 875p board have raid...?

are all msi 875p boards have raid i see that some baord have ICH5 and not ICH5R that support raid in the chipset. but the bios update add raid 1 for what chipset...? i have the ICH5 on my board rev.A2

The ICH5 is the Intel controller that supports 2 P-ATA channels and 2 S-ATA channels. It is used in the 875 boards that don't have 'R' in their name.
The ICH5R is a version of the ICH5 controller that supports RAID on the 2 S-ATA channels. It is used in the 875 boards with the 'R' in their name.
The boards with the ICH5R controller also have an additional controller made by Promise, that supports RAID and provides another 2 S-ATA channels and an additional P-ATA channel. This is where the '2' in front of the R comes from: 2 RAID configurations.

  • Run the monitor on an iMac with a dead logic board?

Can a Mac mini be used to run the monitor on an iMac with a dead logic board?

Apparently my iMac was just dirty. When the tech tried to start it today it started even though when the tech tried to start it yesterday nothing happened. So no need to fix anything.

  • Dead Formatting Board for P2015d Laserjet

    Hi,
I have a P2015d Laserjet with a dead formatting board. The factory board was damaged when the USB cord plugged into it was yanked too hard, pulling the USB port off the board. I tried to re-solder it on, and while it initially worked, the board eventually gave out producing the "solid lights" error: At start up the paper jam, low toner, low paper and printing lights (or some subset thereof) light up and stay lit, the printer doesn't appear on the network and none of the control buttons respond.
I understand this to indicate a failed formatting board, so I bought a refurbished formatting board (for about $80) from a positively-reviewed seller but, after putting the board in, the problem persists.
I have also tried baking both boards in the oven (multiple times) to fix the solder (c.f. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26wrN9fGpNA)
The question is whether there could be any other problems within the printer that could produce this error or that could be frying my formatter boards?
I may have bought a lemon replacement formatter, but being already $80 in the hole I'm reluctant to spend another $140 buying a replacement board straight from HP (throwing good money after bad, as it were).

    Hello fmhoyt,
The product you have is a commercial printer. I suggest posting in the forum for HP Business Support for a better chance at finding a solution.

  • Dead 875P NEO-FIS2R???

    Hello All,
I have been running a 875P NEO-FIS2R board with 3GHz (800FSB) and 1GB (2x512MB Corsair 3200LL TwinX) without issue for the last couple months.
The board was running 1.71 (again for a couple months) Bios.  I decided to play with the "Performance Mode" settings.  Upon setting this to "Ultra Turbo" the board got stuck rebooting, I eventually had to power it down.
When I tried to start it up again it appeared the card was not getting to the POST (with no display output).  The D-LED is showing it is getting stuck at the "Keyboard Initialization".
I have tried clearing the CMOS (several times) with the jumper to no avail.
Tried removing one stick of memory, and then the other with no change as well.
I am wondering if maybe this fried my motherboard, or worse my 3GHz processor!  It takes only a few seconds (maybe 5 or so) for the processor to become nearly untouchable.
Something else I noticed is if I boot the system without the supplemental 4-pin CPU power connector, the D-LED reports all 4 LEDs green (but still wont POST or boot).  Not sure if this helps point to anything.
My wife has a P4 system as well, however it is a 533FSB, does anybody know if I can put an 800FSB into a 533FSB motherboard (I know the clock will probably not show correctly, but will it work)?  I just want to test my processor.  I know the 875 can take the 533, but I am afraid it will fry her processor as well (so I am a little reluctant to try it this way around).
How likely is it that my memory got toasted?  Anybody know what the D-LED would report if I were to remove all the sticks of memory?  Unfortunately I can't test my memory in my wife's motherboard because she has an 850E chipset motherboard running 1066 RAMBUS)
Thanks in advance for any assistance anyone can provide.
    Best regards,
    Gavin

My Man; First you should Have started a NEW Thread, as this one is Almost 1 Year Old ...Now my First question is, What do you Mean you "Erased the BIOS" ?, Do you mean that you "Cleared the BIOS Settings" with the J-BAT1 Jumper? (Because if you "Erased the BIOS, The Board is Now Dead, and you must return it to have the BIOS Reprogramed,  Because the 1 Thing about the MSI Boards is the C-MOS Chip is Soldered onto the Board, it is NOT Socketed)....If you Just Cleared the BIOS Settings then we have a Couple of things to try......But Please you wont get anywhere by Trying to BOOT without the CPU , As that is Like trying to Talk to someone without your BRAIN Installed into your Head ....And the ONLY Grease that you Really Should use Between the CPU and the HSF, is a Quality Thermal Compound, that is Made Just for this Purpose, otherwise regular Grease will either Burn (and Dry Out) or, it will NOT Conduct the Proper amount of Heat away from the CPU.......So Please Tell me where you stand on My First Question about the BIOS, as if you Truelly Erased it, then Nothing that I can do Will Help You ...............Sean REILLY875

  • Hi i have iMac G5 Power PC with dead logic board, when i turn it on screen is dead. Is it possible to recover data off it by hooking up via firewire to my newer G5 3.06Ghz with IntelCore

Kia ora, hi i have an older (2003 or 4) iMac G5 Power PC 2GHZ - when i turn it on the screen stays dead but the light below screen comes on & i can hear fan (after a few mins on the fan gets noisy).I think the logic board may be dead & can not afford new one & I would like to recover some files & stuff from it and have heard you can recover stuff using a firewire cable so i got cable (firewire 400 to 800) but i am unsure how exactly to do it.
Can anyone out there please explain how i might do it
    Thankyou very much
ps my first post on mac forums so hope i got it right

You can remove the hard drive from the iMac and put it in an external enclosure.  You could try using Target Disk Mode to transfer data.  Click on the blue link to get the instructions on how to transfer the data.

  • Retrieving info off ibook with dead logic board

our ibook's logic board died, so we bought a new macbook. now we are trying to retrieve stuff off the harddrive of the ibook with firewire.
i followed the steps to use target disk mode, but the ibook starts up with a blue screen and a floating firewire symbol, and nothing shows up on the macbook at all.
the repair guy said nothing was wrong with the hard drive, so why can't i access it?
    please help!

    jayson,
The C clamp method works for some units because of an open circuit short on the logic board isolated at the video card chip in the lower left hand corner of the unit, about dead center 1.25 inch approx. away from the left/bottom edge of the iBook. By appling pressure to that area the chip is forced back down into the logic board, closing the circuit, and enabling the computer to startup, use the display and not go into kernal panic from a open circuit short. As far as getting data off of the HD, the local tech claimed my HD was erased and there was nothing viewable on it. I took it home, applied some pressure with my my hand and viola all my data, user account etc like nothing had happened...its sad but I am sitting next to my old computer clamped to the table with some cardboard shims for protection. Guess its a desktop now until I get it fixed!

  • 3 times dead logic board and now you are on your own.

My G5 is dead for the 3rd time.
1st time it was fixed at CompUSA. They told me that the logic board was under recall and they fixed it. They told me that they had seen a bunch of these. OK.
2nd time logic board. they open it at apple and say, yup popped capacitors. I call apple to complain, they say you are covered.
3rd time logic board, AGAIN. they will fix it this time.... AND YOU WILL ONLY BE COVER FOR 90DAYS AFTER THIS, IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY NOW.
When you buy a computer that has a know problem and you let them try to correct it, is this how you should be treated? Has any one else been treated like this?
    what should I do?

    Hi S SQUAT-
Greetings and welcome to the Apple Discussion boards
Miriam offers sage advice. Contact Apple at the number provided and firmly yet politely state your case.
You may also want to research your local consumer protection laws. Often manufacturer's are given three tries to fix the same problem then must provide you with another solution in either a refund or a replacement unit.
On a related note, I have never been impressed with Apple service as provided by CompUSA. Apple will always try to point you to the nearest facility but you do have the option to choose another service provider.
    Luck-

  • Dead MSI boardS

I recently purchased 645 ultra, but went dead somehow (it wont power up). This is after 2mthns usage.  I purchased in USA (egghead.com) and now I am in Malaysia.  How can I get a replacement for this?
Since I don’t know how to replace the dead board, I went for 845 Gmax.  To my surprise :O , the new board worked erratically.  Sometimes it powered up, sometimes not! ?(   After about 20 powerups, it went dead, the DLED suggested the on board FDD did not initialize and the boot up sequence was halted.
So, I returned the board to the shop where I purchased and got a new 845 Gmax after about 1 week.  I plug the new board, it powered up, but the DLED did not lit up.  I thought, oh well, at least it powered up.  I plug in all other accessories (HDD, etc cards) and eagerly waiting   my system to wake up again.  But, the board did not power up! 8o .
So, I paused for a while trying to figure out what is going on.  I read the manual (again) carefully; and I noted that somehow 845 GMAX is not compatible with some AGP cards.  I am using ATI All In Wonder 7500 64MB DDR.  This is a universal AGP 2x/4x card which is NOT listed as incompatible.  I pulled out the AGP card, and the board powered up!.   I used the onboard VGA and everything ran OK (except the dead DLED) and I was able to go into my WinXP.  I put the AGP card again, and the board wont power up again!
So, there you go :O .  New motherboard, new version of ATI AGP card (that’s 7500 series), but MSI board wont accept it.  This is very disappointing and I surely cant accept it.
I wont plug the AGP card again, since the consequence is unpredictable (the first 845Gmax board was erratic until it went dead).
I want to use the AGP card, its mandatory since the multimedia feature is a must to me!.
So, I hope MSI will respond to this with grace and understand the patience that I have to bear with the above problems!

Hiya, THanks for responding to my post and the helpful comment from Assaf.  Its rarely people do upgrade or read much about new development on power supply!
The 845 GMax worked flawlessly (inc the DLED) after I bought the new power supply with the 4pin ATX 12v .  It shouldve been called SUPER ATX or something similar and the plug should be modified, so that we know it needs something new!
The old ATX power supply worked on the 645 ultra initially, but failed later.  Same with the 845 GMax. 00 I plugged the new ATX power supply to the 645 ultra and it also powered up! :D .  So,  I have to retract my sarcasm in the first post   .
Thanks again and have a pleasant day! )

  • Powerbook 17" G4 1.67ghz - dead logic board, or dead DC board?

    Hi there,
I have recently come in to the possession of a Powerbook G4 17" 1.67ghz, given to me by a friend in an attempt to fix it. The problem is simple: it won’t turn on! when plugged into the power cord, it makes the green illuminated rim on the flex turn off. I then have to turn the power supply off and on again to get it to work on other machines. I have been told it could be a DC board issue, or it could be logic board... If anyone could shed any light on the issue I would be grateful... Would prefer not to have to splash out on a new logic board!
    Chris
    Powerbook G4 17" 1.67ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)
    iBook G3 500   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I went through this last year.
Power's up - but the light around the power plug flickers green all the time - even when charging.
Won't charge when it's in sleep or turned off.
Thought DC board - logically - but nope logic board.
Then found out bluetooth wasn't working either.
Well I thought 800USD is a lot to pay to fix those 2 things - so just living with it now.
So even if it appears to be DC board - it might not be....
hope this info somehow helps you out
    cheers

  • Many kernel panics, possible dead logic board?

I hope someone can help my diagnose my recently quirky iMac G4 1 ghz 17 in flat panel. I currently have a 250 G Seagate hard drive, 1 G memory. It's running Tiger 10.4.11...or attempting to run it.
This computer ran beautifully until several weeks ago when I foolishly attempted to upgrade to Leopard. Only about a third of Leopard got installed when the system froze and crashed. I managed to access the hard drive and did a complete wipe and install of good old Tiger, upgraded to 10.4.10 which ran without a glitch in the past.
However, even after this clean reinstall I continued to get freezes and kernel panics. I repaired all permissions carefully after each upgrade and I ran Disk Utility with no problems detected and no repairs needing to be done. I tried to run Disk Warrior to double check but continued to have system freezes and kernel panics while running Disk Warrior!! The panics were/are intermittent. The computer behaves fine until I've used it for a few hours, then crashes, usually while I am in Safari or iTunes, but occasionally I will get a panic at start up.
I have replaced the hard drive with a brand new one as it was still under warranty. I tested the memory and determined by process of elimination that the stick of RAM on the logic board was not functioning. I replaced that.
So, I have a new hard drive and functional memory and tried a Tiger fresh reinstall yet again today. The system continues to crash episodically...used the computer for a few hours this am before I got a kernel panic. This afternoon it resuscitated itself enough to let me put upgrade 10.4.5 on it and crashed in the middle of the upgrade! Bear in mind the machine's run all these upgrades and functioned fine in the past.
I think I obviously have a hardware problem and since I've recently replaced the hard drive and both memory modules as well as done a fresh reinstall of the OS version this iMac used to run perfectly, I'm thinking I have a logic board issue.
Any opinions or suggestions on how I might get these issues worked out would be very much appreciated!

Thanks for responding. Yes, I've already followed all those suggestions to the letter. Unfortunately I do not have the original Apple Hardware Test disc that came with this computer. I have oredered a copy of Tech Tool Pro and plan to run it but it has yet to arrive.
I let the computer rest overnight and it booted right up and so far no freezes or panics, I've been using it about a half-hour.
Of note, in the kernel panic log folder it says,

  • Dead logic board. Lemon?

    hey all,
Ive had my 15 inch PB G4 (1.33 Ghz) for about a year and a half. I recently got some strange graphical corruption on the computer ( vertical rows of black and white squares all over the screen - at the apple logo at start up) and called apple. The tech diagnosed it over the phone as a logic board issue and asked that i send it in. I dont have apple care... i realize what a mistake this was, but its too late and ive already heard about it from all my friends so i dont need to hear about what a mistake i made again :P
my question is, this is the second logic board, as well as the third keyboard repair ( the keyboard was 'peeling up' off the computer) and my second screen. I was in the middle of playing neverwinter nights and the screen got all corrupted - it was like an instant logic board failure.
my question: is it feasable to even approach a customer relations representative and ask for a replacement when i effectively have no more warranty? i feel like this computer was a lemon. Im a student and i spent about 1700 dollars on this when it was new. it doesnt exactly feel like a superior machine... ive always had problems with it. thanks in advance for any advice.
    -Aaron

im just finishing up with apple on the phone right now, the customer relations person said they would have apple pay for this repair in full, and this is actually my first logic board replacement, so im pretty **** happy!
thanks a lot templeton! even if you only provided me with the confidance i needed to call apple. i appreciate it.

  • Formatting array on 875p board?

My system has slowed down noticeably over the last 2years, and I would like to format the array and reinstall the OS. The array is on the promise 378 controller. How should I go about doing this? The manual makes no reference to re-formatting, only deleting.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!
    Andy

Let's make a simple one. Just delete the array, swap your harddisk and then create a new array, there you have a brand new RAID. Then continue with your OS installation, be handy with the driver's floppy disk when you are asked to insert n install the driver.
