Dead Battery Chargers for Macbook

Hi,
I hope someone can help. About two weeks ago my sister's charger for her white macbook (brought in January 2008) died. This is no problem because I have a black macbook (brought in April 2007) so she was using my charger until we brought a new one. However, my charger is now dead. So I am wondering whether her mac could of possibly done something to cause both chargers to die or whether it is just a coincidence that both chargers died within weeks of each other.
Can anyone help?

If the magsafe connection on her MB is damaged, it might be causing arcing to take place between the pins of the charger or between the two parts of the magsafe connection (the part attached to the charger and the part attached to the computer). If this is occurring the pins of the charger and the surrounding area will like have a blackened or browned appearance.

  • Third Party Battery Chargers for MacBook Pro

I had a very interesting experience last week. I bought 2 85W power adapters for my MacBook Pro. There is no "name brand" for it. They were about $47.50 each. The price was effective in getting me to buy 2 as it was a 33% savings over the purchase of 2 Mac adapters. The location of the store and name on the internet is: CCS - Calcellular.com - CSPower.com (through Yahoo! Store Order System).
Well, to save me some time, here is a description of the "problems" I had with this adapter:
    Hello,
I bought 2 Replacement Power Adapters for my MacBook Pro. It is 85W as per Apple specifications.
After one week, the first adapter failed miserably. Of a sudden, my MAC started acting sporadically as though there was some sort of a short or something. After a bit longer, my MAC's screen turned black (the power was still on and the adapter plugged into my MAC) and it died! I was afraid that there was a sudden zap of electricity from the "brick" of the power adapter. However, I unplugged the adapter from my MAC, leaving the adapter plugged into the wall. I then tried to get my MAC to work again and, fortunately, after shutting it down by just turning it off by pressing the power button. I then plugged in my old original Apple power adapter and then turned my MAC on again. After a while, the plugged-in "brick" of the power adapter that you sold to me was "cold." It had died! I actually bought 2 of these in the hope that, should one die over time, then I would have another at the ready when the need arose. Well, after the scare that I had with the first one, I was extremely reluctant to use the second one for fear that, maybe, the second one may do the same and actually cause damage to my machine. I just plugged in and kept on using the old one. Today, I got an original Apple 85 Watt power adapter that is now connected to my MacBook Pro. Well, since this "event," I have been having trouble with my built-in FireWire interface as it just fails to recognize my external drives extremely erractically for no reason at all. I have changed the cables numerous times and even cut down the number of FireWire drives down from 6 to only one! However, the problem still persists at the same frequency (about once every 15 minutes after getting the drive recognized again). Now, I cannot reliably back up my data from 2 750G drives to a 1T drive as needed. My iTunes library is more than 200G and needs to be on an external drive and I cannot listen to music without the danger of losing my iTunes directory as well as a numeric level of my DRM rights. This was NOT a problem BEFORE the "brick" suddenly malfunctioned or went "bad" on my MAC. I followed the instructions to the letter about how to use the power adapter included in the box. I also bought this MAC last May.
What can you do for me to "make things right"? I am sure that my MAC requires service as well as repair. However, should Apple deem that it was due to "other than Apple's fault," it could cost almost as much as a new MAC as this "shock" to my MAC may have caused the necessity to replace my current motherboard (over $1600!).
I am, to say the least, very unhappy and I would like to see a "resolution" to this problem that will return my MacBook Pro to its proper state and performance.
    Thank you,
    Anyse
Well, I am letting all of you know that this "replacement" is not worth it and I will definitely keep all of you posted as to how this turns out. At least you can learn from MY own experience, if not stupidity!

Thanks for sharing. Do keep in mind the old adage, "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is..." Since Apple has not licensed the MagSafe design, there are no 'official' non-Apple power adapters, so you're either buying a knock-off or a reconditioned one (and with power systems, reconditioned is not a good idea).

  • The normal value of battery capacity for macbook pro

    Hi there,
I noticed my battery full charge capacity value is way below the technical specification from Apple.
    For macbook pro 15" early 2011 version a 77.5W battery is built-in.
However, so far after 4 cycle, my full charge capacity is 6913mAh.
It seems that I missed something. Though I didn't really notice the initial value when it's brandnew.
Statistically what's the average value of the new battery will be ? around 75W or 7500mAh? Any idea?

It is not easy to find such service in apple.com in case of macbook air battery.
    Thanks for your reply.

  • What is Apple's dead pixel policy for MacBook Pro 13 inch 2011?

I have just noticed a dead pixel in my MacBook Pro 13 inch. Is it possible that i could have my Mac replaced? If not, what do I do and what is the policy? I do have Apple Care. Thanks.

One thing I'm fairly certain of is that Apple will choose to repair the unit instead of replacing it. Since you wisely purchased AppleCare, they should repair it if you're in your 3-year warranty (and, obviously, you are).
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • External Battery Charger for Macbook 13inch

I took my macbook to the Apple store because it wouldn't charge anymore. The charger and battery are fine. They told me it was the logic board which would cost over $300 since my warranty ran out 80 days ago. I searched for some external chargers and found some but not for this specific battery. Does anybody know if they make an external charger for the macbook white 13 inch? Device name on the battery is ASMB016.

OK, but I'm not sure why? I don't believe there is a charger to hook directly to the battery, but if such an animal exists you might find it be doing a Google search. Also check out newertech.com, macsales.com, and quickertek.com.

Would like your imput on Aftermarket chargers, wall plug, car lighter and really about the battery packs that use 4 AA's for charging. Also any hints on charging for the first time, and using the lock button for better charging?

  • Losing my battery life for macbook pro very fast

I charge my battery for my macbook pro retina and i keep losing battery life very fast ?
    Please help

I've done my research and could not find a decent article for my Macbook Pro Retina Mid2014.
    Review these link:
Considerations for the long life of your MacBook. Handling and environmental care tips
The tips helped me out the most compared to the other links that can be found. Not sure why your battery life isn't lasting you though. You may need to get it checked by Apple. Try the Apple Support--if you got yours new, you have 90 days free support.
Thankfully, I never had issues with the battery life but I did replace my first Macbook a few days after purchasing. Thankfully, I was still within 14 days so had it replaced by Best Buy, no question asks as long as you brought everything including receipts.
Out of curiosity, can you click on APPLE logo > About this Mac > System Report > Power
Copy & paste the Battery Information.
For some reason, I am having issues copying & pasting my information.

I have my screen dimmed since I don't really like it too bright and I have my keyboards lights off unless it's at night and I need to see the keyboard for whatever reason. There is really no real reason for me to have the keyboard lights on anyway other than to make it looks nice. My laptop had lasted me maybe about 7+ hours (maybe even more) if I get it down really low. I've got it down to 10% the first time I used it just to see and then since then, I've been trying to charge from 30%+ and when I am streaming, I keep it plugged in.
I don't ever plan on leaving it plugged in over night or while on sleep mode for a long period of time. Never do a battery calibration since it's not necessary for the new Macbook Retinas.

  • Because chargers for MacBook Pro's are going whack...

Well, my charger for my 2010 MacBook Pro (15 inch) is broken. I'm trying to order a new charger online but I need to use my warrenty. Apple won't let me purchase online for free or anything and I haven't the slighest idea how to get a new charger...
I'm not paying 79 dollars for a new one and I'm surley not getting any help online.

Just make a Genius appointment at your local apple store.  Check your warranty status by clicking the link below.  If you are out of warranty by only a day or two, apple might replace it.  If your mac is in warranty, then they should replace it considering that original accessories coverage are included in the warranty.
Click to check warranty status- https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do
Just enter your serial number you can find on the bottom of your MacBook Pro or in the system profiler application
    Good luck!

  • Battery questions for MacBook Air 11 inch

I generally have my MBA 11 inch connected to the power supply during the day and therefore it shows 100% when I close the lid at the end of the day.
After overnight the battery shows 95% or less when I open in the morning.
    Is this normal ?
Clearly not a big issue , I'm just learning the best practices with this, the first MAC I have ever owned.
Why the **** didn't I buy one years ago ? Wonderful product !!
Since I leave it connected to a power supply most of the time, I understand that approx once monthly, I should use it on battery and fully discharge it then recharge.
    Correct ?
Thx Learned MAC users for your help.

Yes, that is correct. Also, if you can use it on battery power a few times a week for a few hours then plug it back in to keep the juices flowing.  http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html

  • Two fried chargers for MacBook Pro in 2.5 years.

I think it is a design problem Macbook 2 power adaptor.  The cord repeatedly bends in the same place causing it to short.  Is there a recall, or any assistance from Apple on replacing these

there should be a 1 year on accessories too. there isn't any recall, as you seem of the rare people having problems with the power adapter. Make sure you plug and unplug your Magsafe adapter properly: Mac notebooks: Using and maintaining your Apple MagSafe Adapter - Apple Support

  • Any good freeware battery tester for the Macbook?

I searched for battery tester on versiontracker and there are no results. I saw the genius bar used an ipod nano to test my battery. I wonder if anybody knows a good downloadable battery tester for Macbooks.

In addition to that link (which is very good) there are two popular applications I see a lot of members post about:
    Coconut Battery Monitor (http://www.coconut-flavour.com/coconutbattery/index.html)
    iStat Pro (http://www.islayer.com/apps/istatpro/)
The iStat widget is a system monitor, that includes a portion on battery health.

  • Possible dead battery on late 2007 MacBook white?

Yesterday my girlfriend put her late 2007 MacBook (running 10.5.1) to sleep and when she went to wake it up it would appear to have died/shutdown and then tried to start up. There was a whir of the DVD drive and then it started to play the boot sound and then just cut out.
On further attempts to boot it (from battery) now does the same thing. Though if the power is plugged in then it starts OK. I've tried an SMC reset, but that doesn't appear to have helped.
The MacBook was purchased in December 2007. Current battery info is as follows:
    Battery Information:
    Model Information:
    Manufacturer: DP
    Device name: ASMB016
    Pack Lot Code: 0002
    PCB Lot Code: 0000
    Firmware Version: 102a
    Hardware Revision: 0500
    Cell Revision: 0200
    Charge Information:
    Charge remaining (mAh): 3310
    Fully charged: No
    Charging: Yes
    Full charge capacity (mAh): 4019
    Health Information:
    Cycle count: 285
    Battery health: Good
    Battery Installed: Yes
    Amperage (mA): 1073
    Voltage (mV): 12535
Does all this point to a dead battery?
    Cheers,
    Jay

After a bit more looking it may be the same problem as described on post http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1954449&start=0&tstart=0 as we've been away for a week. Also the battery is the same model number (although not firmware) as the one listed in the info for Battery Updater 1.4.
First things first, I need to backup then upgrade the MacBook to 10.5.8 as the Battery Updater 1.4 requires 10.5.6 or later. Then try the Battery Updater and a charge to see what happens and if all else fails maybe a visit to Apple (eveb though AppleCare is long gone) as the battery is below 300 cycles which some people have got Apple to replace as a faulty battery.
