Dead Center Dead Pixel

I have owned my 30" monitor for a little over a month. however when I went to show it off a bit and played a DVD, one dead pixel almost dead center. It is amazing on how such a small thing can make a huge difference. The pixel seems it largest when you start a power point show or i-movie presentation ( black screen with one little white dot) I wish I noticed it earlier. It really is most apparent when there is a lot of black on the screen.
Does anyone know any steps I can take to resolve this issue? I tried rubbing it, flashing red green and blue. Do I have a case to return it? Any apple care issues?
Thanks for all your help

PS with all this said I am very grateful to own such a beautiful piece of hardware.

I have the same issue, except my pixel is just a little off center. I went through hardware tests, software tests with Apple over the phone. After a total of 1.5 hours of troubleshooting, we came to the conclusion that I may have to live with my bad pixel.

Jason:
case # 61609896, I finished the archive and install process as suggested. Still have a pixel error on my screen. What next?
Agent:
Okay
Jason:
I have a pixel error on my screen. Doesn't go away with re-install of software, performed hardware check - no problems. Tried creating new user, same problem.
Agent:
As I understand , even after archive & install you see still see the pixel appears , right ?
Jason:
correct
Agent:
Let me check what best I can do for you
Agent:
At this point , If you suspect your display contains a high number of pixel anomalies, take your Apple product to an Apple Authorized Service Provider for closer examination.

Jason:
yes

Jason:
so, this article says that if I have just a few pixels that are not working correctly, than those imperfections are considered acceptable? and a replacement or repair is not covered under the warranty?
Agent:
There may be a charge for the evaluation. but if found as hardware then the repair is surely covered by Apple
Jason:
do i need to call an apple store ahead of time before I bring in my iMac?

Make an appointment before you take it

  • Dead or Stuck pixels on brand new iTouch?

I just bought my first Apple iPod Touch two days ago and i just now noticed a dead or stuck pixel on my screen. Its right smack dab in the center of the screen and can get pretty annoying when im watching a video or when im looking at photos. In addition to that you could say that im OCDish about my stuff in the way that one dead pixel is going to annoy the crap out of me. I wanted to know if i took the itouch back to the apple store would they give me a new one or fix it for me? This dead pixel is going to kill me. I mean stuck pixel. Im pretty sure its not a scratch cuz when i ran a stuck pixel finding online app the pixel would change colors when on a certain color. Anyways any help would be great thanks anyway.

Thanks. I will probably just head over there when my dad gets home so he can take me.

  • New T530 with dead / unresponsive pixel in upper middle of screen

I have one dead or unresponsive pixel in the upper middle part of the screen. It is stuck in red color. It is very difficult to ignore  this red dot and it is very annoying to use my machine with this red dot on the screen. What can I do?
I ordered my T530 on July 27th and received it on Aug 20th. I've used it for two days and used UDpixel or similar online tools in attempt to unstuck this red pixel. The pixel is still stuck in red. What can I do about this? Need help. I need to use my  laptop for school.

  • Could I have some help identifying and fixing dead/stuck/hot pixel?

Hello, yesterday whilst watching a movie on my Macbook Pro I noticed something on my screen, at first I thought it was just something stuck on the screen but it seems to be an issue with a pixel. I would appreciate help regarding identifying if it's a dead, stuck or hot pixel and any ways of fixing it. It seems to be smaller than what I had previously experienced (on other machines) dead/hot/stuck pixels to be and I can't really tell if it's white or a light blue. It doesn't show up on any colour other than greys and blacks.
Also, is it likely that taking it to an apple store will yield results if it's still in warranty and I explain that as a photographer it's a very annoying thing to have on almost the centre of the screen.
I hope you guys can provide me with some help, it will be much appreciated.
    Stefano.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
That's a dead pixel or it may be dust, too. In both cases, as your computer is in warranty, take it to an Apple Store or reseller and you should get the display replaced for free, even if it's only one pixel.
I wouldn't be surprised if that's dust. I have seen a lot of cases related to dust in this forum, but it has got the same solution as the dead pixel

  • Screen has a Dead or Stuck Pixel ! (Pavilion DV6 3158ca)

I have recently noticed a dead or stuck pixel on the top left area of my laptop screen, it shows a white dot, when a white or bright background is being viewed. If the background is black the dot isnt visible. Im sure its a dead or stuck pixel, I have tried  a few pixel fixing softwares, no help!
I still have 4 months left on my HP warranty, but I have read they wont change it unless there are 4 or 5 dead pixels! Anyone had any experience with this, or any ideas? It totally sucks to have a good working computer and a white dot which keeps grabbing my eyes attention.
    HELP!!!!!!!

    What is the size ???
A pixel is the size of  a pin point.
If you see a dot that is larger than that it could be press marks.
Press marks come from the keyboard, palm rest, mouse buttons and sometimes from the LCD lid.
Does the dot line up with any of these???

  • Dead/bright pixels - not covered under warranty?????

I contacted hp about my brand new beats audio special edition laptop having a couple of dead pixels and was told they do not cover the lcd touchscreen under the warranty - what is that???? it is hardware and if it has a couple dead and bright pixels in the first week then what will happen over the next year? I dont have $600 to throw out every couple months for a new laptop and am very angry at this response ......

Thanks for the help , though it may be too late( not your fault at all , but the tech support) . I was contacted through pm and responded with the requested info . The problem is my return window ends Monday and I am hesitant to wait any longer after my experience yesterday. I am finding it hard to trust in hp after being told the LCD panel is not covered under warranty and then getting a email from chat support that said my issue was a bright screen and they fixed it by updating the video driver(neither one true) . To top it off I could not even respond to the email because it was sent from a unmonitored address and it said if I had any "other" issues I should go back on chat again . This is the worst customer service I have ever received.

I don't know about steve---but I've owned 8 iPhones (5 for me and 3 for my wife) starting with the 3G and ending with my current iPhone 5 and none of them had a display problem of any kind.
Several of my family members also have iPhones--about 10 more, I'd guess, and none of them have a stuck pixel, either.
If I had received a display with a stuck pixel I would have definitely returned it immediately.

  • HT1476 when is it best to charge the battery, when it is completly dead, almost dead or at any time you want a full chargre?

When is it best to charge your battery for and Ipot touch 4th generation? when it is completly dead, almost dead, or any time you want full charge.

Letting the battery completly drain is not that good. Otherwise, just charge when you want.

  • Original iPhone. 1 green pixel. Dead center.

Certain not to find too much sympathy around here, if any.
Purchased the iPhone in July 2007. Apple had to replace it as the screen went dead (touch areas) in October 2008. So roughly 16 months of life out of that one.
As of yesterday, there is green pixel in the center of the screen. Did a search for this is issue and apparently it is a stuck pixel and this site (http://www.ebaspace.com/iphone-app/#_home) is the only option. Ran their fix overnight which is flashing the screen in a frantic rotation. The "stuck" pixel is still there (it is a green pixel).
So, 16 months later, it appears that this iPhone is having an issue, how bad it progresses remains to be seen. Can't say I am pleased as the phone cost me over $625 with tax, so annualized that $234.48 per year to have the pleasure of owning this phone. That is without the phone plan. Just the hardware.
Going to keep trying and possibly restore the phone to see if I can shake this green pixel and if anyone here has any other advice, appreciate your input.
My final attempt will be to go to the genius bar and see, what, if anything, can be done (ie. buy another original iPhone, if they even carry any in stock, which I highly doubt.).
I'm biting my lip on this as I have come to expect quality from Apple, which as of late with their updates for our OS, etc. has been somewhat suspect.
Apple apologists, please do not use this thread for any other reason but to advise.
    Thank you all in advance.

Came across an app in the itunes store that goes for .99 to do the same thing that the link in my original post does.
Read through the reviews of this app and the solution was in review section.
Apply pressure. So I did. Green pixel is gone. Gone.
In this day and age of modern technology, sometimes it takes the old school way of banging the side of the TV to get it to work.
To those who come across this thread seeking an answer. Try the free website in my original post. If that doesn't do it, take your thumb, place it on that green or red or blue pixel and apply pressure. Fixed.

  • Dead or stuck pixel

    Hello,
I'm new to the forum here having recently converted. I've done a search or 2 on this issue but found nothing of note. I have one dead pixel(well its green or white sometimes) in the middle of the screen and its very annoying. I've read through all the support pages and found the usual pixel anomalies page explaing all about it.
But It only mentions LCD's. There's no mention of LED screen, so would I be right in saying that there is no material specifying the restrictions of this and it would be considered a fault?

    Vermelho88 wrote:
But what I mean is, they have no policy for LED screens stated yet so therefore its just plain faulty, as in "not as described" so wouldn't they have to replace it straight away?
It's still an LCD display. The Al MacBook displays use LED (as opposed to fluorescent) backlighting. A dead/stuck pixel is still an LCD malfunction. One dead pixel is considered normal. If it weren't the cost to the manufacturer would be considerably more in terms of rejected parts and warranty returns.

  • How to set screen height / dead line of pixels - cant read

    Hi there,
I recently installed arch on my notebook, the issue now is that it has a line of dead pixels at the bottom, which makes it impossible to read my input or the console output. It would be sufficient if I could change it for the Xserver or in my window manager. I tried to find something in the xmonad wiki but no solution there. Any suggestions?
I'm using Xorg with xmonad and xmobar.
Thanks in advance and a happy new year!

You have to put 'nomodeset' on the kernel line, ie
    title archlinux
    root (hd0,X)
    kernel /vmlinuz26 ro root=/dev/sdaY ro vga=771 nomodeset
    initrd /kernel26.img

  • Stuck or dead (??) pixel on SR MBP right out of box

Ok I'm having trouble determining whether the pixel is stuck or dead. On a white background, it is black with a reddish outline; on black, it's invisible; on *red and blue* it is NORMAL, meaning it is blue/red with the background. This makes me almost sure it is, in fact, stuck. I tried running JScreenFix for 20 min or so and it didn't help. I also tried putting pressure on it while the screen is on. I read that pressure works best when applied while screen is being turned on. Before I keep poking at my 2 hour old baby, I wanted to hear some feedback....

  • Dead or stuck pixel. well I got one

It ***** it is right in the middle it looks grey more than black or anything . I read some stuff but cant really figure out if there is anything to do about it. Does anyone know of anything to fix this? thanks

Some people have success gently rubbing the area around the pixel, others find running unstick_pixels.MP4 (1.5MB) for a few hours over the area can 'unstick' them ...
If it's black (dead) then you're unlikely to get it back, if it's a primary color (stuck) then it might kick back in.
If it's grey ... it could be discoloring in the LCD screen layer and not the pixel layer ?
