Dead Computer

My computer died that I had my phone connected to, the applecare is done and I'm not going to take it in for service I'll just buy a new iMac or a MacBook. My question is what happens to all my music that I synced through iTunes and how do I de authorize that iTunes and how do I connect my iPhone to a new computer? will I have to go through activation process again? Any way to get the music off my phone back into iTunes? Thanks!

You won't be able to de-authorize your computer if it's dead. Sorry. If you ever reach 5 authorizations, however, a "deauthorize all" button will appear. You can only do this once a year.
As for transferring your purchases to the new computer you get, see this:

  • How do I move iTunes from a dead computer?

My iTunes currently resides on a dead computer (hard drive failure). How do I move iTunes to my laptop PC (Vista) without losing all of my music/videos (on iPod) or apps (iPhone)?

Don't think you can get anything from your Dead computer.
Sync is only oneway, from PC to your device.  Unless you have the same music on your new PC, iTunes is going to wipe out what you have on your device if you are syncing to a new library.
You can only transfer Purchased music over to Itunes on your PC.

As for you own music/videos, you may have to use a third party software.  A good Free one is called Sharepod which you can download from Download.com here:

  • Back-up in dead computer

hi all, its my first post.
i (proudly) own a 3GS and it was syncing and backing up to a computer which is now dead.
I wanted to back up my 3gs to a different computer (the new one i had to buy).
My main issue is with all my music library (about 1 GB of music bought on itunes and 12 GB of non-itunes bought music), as the original MP3 files (all legally bought) were also in the dead computer.
Therefore i wanted to "remotely-erase" the dead computer so that i can backup the 3GS to my new computer.
Would someone know how i can do that?
    thanks in advance

thanks for your kind reply. however the hard drive is dead too. i already had went to a repair store and they told that both the hard drive and the cpu were dead, due to a overheat issue. Therefore i can not access the old hard drive at all. How can i backup the iphone to another computer then? Isnt there any chance of itunes running in another computer to cancel the authorization of the dead computer i was syncing iphone with? And i dont have a chance of authorizing itunes in another 3 computers.

  • How Do I Decommission a Dead Computer

A family iMac died and now I need to decommission it so that I can commission a new laptop. Hpw may I decommission it?

    You can't de-authorize a 'dead' computer.
If you reached the limit of 5 authorizations, you can de-authorize all computers once a year:
About iTunes Music Store authorization and deauthorization
If you didn't reach that limit yet, you can request to de-authorize all computers using the form at the bottom of this page:
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/musicstore/authorization/
    Hope this helps.

  • My library is on an old (dead) computer - can I add somehow without deleting e

Probably a stupid question-here goes....my library was created on an old, now dead computer. Is there any way to add to my ipod without losing everything on it?

You should have copied everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one, so everything should be on your computer.
You can transfer itunes purchases from your ipod:  File>Transfer Purchases

  • HT1329 I have a dead computer with itunes on it.  How do I deauthorize a dead computer?

How do you deauthorize a dead computer for itunes?  We only get 5 computers, and I need a new computer to be authorized for itunes.

If you've got 5 computers authorised for the account in question, and you need to free up authorizations, I'd do a "Deauthorize All" from one of the computers you have access to, and then reauthorize the computers you have access to.
For instructions, see the following document:
iTunes Store: About authorization and deauthorization

  • HT1727 How do I deauthorize a dead computer

How Do I deathorize a dead computer and transfer my old itunes library to a used computer.

There is no need to deauthorize unless you've reached the 5 computer max.  If you have reached that max, deauthorze all computers and then authorize the one's you actually have.
As for moving the library, use the backup of the computer to move all the content to the new computer.

  • HT1420 How do I deauthorize a dead computer

As I said, how do I deauthorize a dead computer?

Expanding on what Niel said, you cannot yourself deauthorize a computer that's not working or to which you no longer have access. You can authorize a total of up to five systems, so it's probably not really important that you deauthorize your dead unit now. Once you reach five total authorizations, a button will appear in your iTunes Store account that will allow you to deauthorize all your systems, so that would at that time recover the now-useless authorization.
If for some reason you really feel you need to deauthorize that system now, you can try contacting  the iTunes Store customer support department through their Contact form (follow the on-screen instructions)  and explaining the problem to them. They might be willing to clear your authorizations for you.
    Regards.

If you mean you are trying to transfer the programs from one machine to another that will not work.  You need to install the application using installations files.  You can find the installation files thru the page linked below.

  • Deauthorizing a dead computer. Anyone know how. I cant find instructions on Help

I cant find instructions on how to deauthorize a dead computer. Old Laptop pooped out and couldnt rebuild so replaced it.

    It is possible.......
You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. Otherwise you can "deauthorize all" from your iTunes account.  Then you must re-authorize the exisiting computers individually.
    Open iTunes on a computer
From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
Under "Computer Authorizations" select "Deauthorize All".
Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
See How to Authorize or Deauthorize iTunes | PCWorld for Windows.

  • Deauthorizing ONE dead computer?

my computer recently died and i got a new one. but on my itunes, i already have 5 computer authorized. i can't deauthorize all of them until dec 29th. is there anyway to deauthorize the dead computer without having to wait to deauthorize them all?

To deauthorize a single computer, you need to have access to the computer.
Your choices are to wait til the once-a-year option comes around, or to contact iTunes Customer Service and request assistance.
