Dead dark pixel in Ideapad s520p 5941135

I  just bought my Ideapad s520p 59411351 4 days ago from a store and when I came home realised it has a dead pixel on the screen, it appears as a dark dot on the bottom right. I am a designer and just can't live with this !!
So I went to the store the other day and showed them the defect. The manager confirmed the defect and told me that they have  no replacement policy !!! So he suggested me to call Lenovo support,
So I called Lenovo support, they sent an engineer who poked around the pixel and told me that I will get a reply from Lenovo in a day . today I got the reply that LENOVO DOESNT REPLACES DEFECTIVE LCDs WITH 1 DEAD PIXEL.
what do I do now ?? you pay full money for a brand new machine and get a defective piece and still don't get a replacemnet !!

hi goldensalamande.
warranty conditions may change by country but as i know if you don't have dead pixels more than 4, warranty won't replace it.
still, to make sure, you can call lenovo support line for further informations.
hope this helps.

  • Macbook pro retina dead/stuck pixel and warranty question

So here's the situation.  A couple of weeks ago I brought my macbook pro 15'' retina into the apple store because the speakers were buzzing sometimes.  It wasn't a huge problem, but my 1-year warranty was about to expire so I figured I'd bring it it to get fixed.
About a week later, I went to pick it up and I brought it back home.  I tried out the speakers (it was too loud to hear them in the store), and the problem was still there.  It wasn't worth complaning and bringing it back because I usually use external speakers anyway, so I figured I'd just live with it.
But about a week later I noticed there is a dead/stuck pixel on my screen.  It shows up white against a black background, but is also detectable against a white background.  I can also faintly see a mark there when the display is turned off so I have a feeling it was caused by physical damage.  I want to bring it in to get it fixed but my warranty is now 2-3 weeks expired.  There is a 90-day guarantee on the speaker "repair" I had done, but obviously that is not directly related to the screen.
I realize it's hard to believe screen issues would arise from a speaker repair.  However, I think it is at least possible that they damaged the screen when they took the computer apart.  I've had this computer for a year without any issues; I definitely would have noticed the pixel had it been there before--I do alot of programming with a black background.  It's quite a coincidence that I first notice a problem right after I bring it in to apple.
Do you think I can bring it in and get it repaired?  Should I call AppleCare?  Also, if they deny me the repair, is it too late to extend AppleCare for another year?  Thanks!
(the display is Samsung, for those who are wondering)

We are just users such as you so our opinions don't really matter.  Do bring the MBP in to the store and have a talk with a decision maker.  Sometimes good things happen but don't expect that to be the case.
Regarding Apple care, you are too late.  It must be purchased prior to the expiration of the one year warranty.
    Ciao.

  • Ring of dark pixels

For the past couple of months I've noticed a ring of dark pixels on my screen.
    http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/9826/dsc007521mh9.jpg
I'm not sure if this is a problem with the actual display or if the back of the glass is just dirty.
Anyone have any idea what this might be? I plan on eventually bringing this in to a genius bar, however I know it will be a pain in the neck not having my computer for a week or so. Plus wiping my data in case I get a refurb or something is also a hassle.

    Richard,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
As has been stated you might have a hardware problem however you can do a SMC and PRAM reset. This is pretty easy to do, here the instructions:
    1. Turn off your iMac and unplug everything from it for 30 seconds.
    2. Plug in the power cord, keyboard and mouse only.
    3. Press the power button and immediately hold down the Option, Command, P & R keys until you hear the second gong then release the keys. Your machine will start up normally, then check for the issues you are having.
If it does not fix the issue contact Apple, remember you have 90 days of free telephone support from the original date of purchase and 1 year of warranty. If you haven't already I would recommend you purchase AppleCare while you still can.
    Regards,
    Roger

  • Dead Pixel Agony Ideapad S300

Hello everyone! I have a Lenovo S300 laptop. It's still a month old. The product went smoothly but after a one month, a bright yellow vertical line appeared at the left side of the screen. Then after 4 days (now), a green vertical line appeared at the right side (it just turned yellow while I'm typing this). I am worried right now because some might appear! What should I do about this? [I still have my warranty because it's still a month old.] Will the warranty cover LCD replacement? Will I spend an amount to fix this?

    hi itsmekevin01,
Sorry to hear about the situation,
For lines Appearing on the screen at early age of the computer,
as long as it does not show physical damage like Visible Crack, Dents or scratches.
I'm pretty sure the Lenovo Tech Person who will examine the unit will be able to tell if its a device defect or Physical damage,

  • MacBook Pro retina dead/stuck pixel

Hi this morning I turnd on my mac. And when watching a video, that had a dark background I noticed a white dot on the screen. I tried to clean it but it did not move. I did a bit of research and have come to think this is a dead or stuck Pixel. It shows on dark backgrounds,  and shows up as a little dark dot on white background. If you look at it for a magnifying glass you can see the colours within the pixels. Is it stuck? I've seen some videos online that apparently fix dead pixels. and programs that is JFixit. Do these work? My one year warranty has just run out so if I have to go to apple, I will have to get AppleCare. how much is this cost for my mbpr if I have o get it.
Any helped be appreciated. This appears to be a common problem on MacBook Pro Ratners. So some more publicity about it would be good. Any help would be appreciated thank you very much.

Hey.. I had the same problem with my Macbook pro Retina 15.  On discovering the same spot on my screen, i rushed to the apple store from where i bought this macbook. They seeing my problem immediately took my macbook for LCD replacement and asked me come after 15 working days> But after 2-3 days they gave me a call that this cannot be replaced since they are not getting permission and the required part from the apple. So i called on the apple customer care and registered  my complained. Firstly they even said that this is the first time they are ecountering such problem n asked me to keep my mac with me n observe whether this SPOT increases in future or not, and only if it did, they will replace it. I strongly opposed this coz i have spent 150K for my machine and therefore i will except no less than a new machine.
After hours of discussions with the head of the techinical team and the US team, and after 7 days approx, they decided to give my machine green signal for LCD replacement, and also asked the service centre to get it done ASAP and also supplied the req. part.
n today, my machine is working perfectly fine and has no probs with the display.
I would suggest you to take same and immediate action abt this and donnot except anything less that a perfectly working machine.
    All the Best !! (y)

  • Dead/Stuck Pixel!

I've always loved Apple's products, and admired that their quality was superior to any other computer manufacturer. What taints this is the fact that my brand new iMac (20") has a dead or stuck pixel in its display. I think it's stuck, because it does not appear with a red background, but does show on any other color. I just called the Apple store near my house and they said that AppleCare does not cover a single pixel. Is there any way to "unstick" a pixel, or is it stuck for good?
Oh, I've tried the video with the flashing colors, but it hasn't worked so far...

There are two ways a pixel can be bad.
    (1) It can be stuck on, or
    (2) It can be stuck off.
It is the first kind that can sometimes be fixed by pressure or rubbing or flashing colors. The second kind is dead forever.
The way to tell these apart is simple. Put something that is solid white under the bad pixel. If you see the bad pixel against the white background, then you have a pixel that is stuck off.
Put something solid black under the bad pixel. If you can see the bad pixel against black, then you have a pixel that is stuck on.
Remember that each pixel really consists of three color dots, one red, one green, and one blue, and it is usually just one of those dots that is bad. You can figure out which by trying the pixel on solid red, blue, and green backgrounds.
Suppose, for example, you've got a green subpixel that is stuck off. Then what you'll see against various colors is this:
white: you'll see a dark spot
    black: looks fine
    red: looks fine
    blue: looks fine
green: you'll see a dark spot
Suppose you had a green subpixel stuck on. Then this is what you'd see when checking against the various backgrounds:
    white: looks fine
black: you'll see a green spot
    red: you'll see a spot
    blue: you'll see a spot
    green: looks fine

  • Moving Pixels on Ideapad n586

I recently purchased an Ideapad N586, which runs windows 7, and on certain colors, such as grey and dark blue, the pixels look like they're moving around like tv static. Is there any way I can fix this, or maybe you can tell me what's wrong with it? Thank you!

opening the LCD would just make the problem worse, as dusts will settle onto the glass plates and polarisers, unless you do it in a Class 100 clean room.

  • Have I got dead / stuck pixels,   or . .  ?

Searching here for "dead or stuck pixels" gave me a little info, but no real match for my new situation.
Suddenly I've got 2 "bits of dust" towards the lower right corner of my 24" display. They're different sizes ( the smaller close to a pin-head ) and the slightly larger one is a much darker shade of grey.
Reading one of my search-result threads, I learned that a screen-shot doesn't capture them because it's not "coming from the video-card" & is therefore more likely a "problem" within the display.
They look like pieces of grit , is it even possible for a foreign particle to "ride in on a CD" and end up visible within the display ?
I'm sure that's doubtful, but I don't know much beyond what they "look like".
    Oy !

sorry for the double-posting, but part of the original keeps getting left out ( quite strange )
    The missing 2nd "paragraph" is : >

let's see if this works ( can I delete one of these two ? )

  • Scattered dead/stuck pixels! help!

    Hi
Recently i noticed one dead pixel on my screen (shows up as bright white against a normal white background). Since then i have seen a few more white and my screen has become littered with hundreds of grey pixels. They're not really in the way but the problem is definately worsening. At this rate i won't have any live pixels left in a few months.
Are these grey pixels dead? They definatly look different to the white dead pixels.
Will i have to replace the screen?
    Thanks
    Iz

They are noticeable on light/white backgrounds, yes? The pixels seem to glow a bit brighter and some even are darker?
I've noticed this as well. From what I've read, it seems you have a good amount of dust getting trapped behind the glass on your screen.
If you're really worried, take it into an Apple Store near you, or call Apple yourself.

  • Dark Pixel Line In Captured Image

    Hello,
I am trying to use a high speed machine vision camera (AVT guppy PRO F503C) to analyze touch screen LCD user interface modules for pixel defects, foreign particles, scratches, etc... However, this process is hampered by a dark line of pixels which tracks down the screen continously during image acquistion (both grab and continous grab). I have had a little success adjusting the camera shutter value to minimize the visibility of this line, however, this has proved to be relatively inconsistent as the shutter value seems to differ from unit to unit. I am wondering if anyone has ever run into this issue and if there is any corrective action to eliminate or minimize the effects of this line (lighting, camera settings, etc..). Here is an image:

Here is a workaround.  No charge.  This time
I'm assuming the line always shows up in a different position vertically in the image.  If this is not the case, you may need to change the framerate so that the line moves around.  The VI I have attachec take in images from your camera until the "# of Images to Consider" value is met.  While it is collecting the images, it builds a sigle array of the max pixel values that came before.  The resulting image will not have the line.  You will need to play with the # value to figure out what works for your application.

  • L220x: dead reddish pixel in center of the screen

I bought this and another L220x 4 months ago from a lenovo reseller. Now there has appeared a slightly red-tinted dead pixel to center of the screen.
Do you know whether this display has a warranty that covers it or whether I can get that dead pixel working again. I'd prefer the latter because I love this display and can't think of being without it.
It's just a single dead pixel in the center of the screen, so it's not exactly bothering me with 2 million working ones around it except when I happen to spot it.
I guess it's going to be more common with always increasing pixels per inch -counts.
Btw. Your forum registration prompt is an usability nightmare. Why request so strong passwords anyway?

    welcome to the forum!
unfortunately one suck subpixel isn't enough for warranty.   the pixel replacement policy for thinkvision displays can be found here.
regarding passwords, i understand your point.   perhaps this is something we can explore changing in the future.

  • Dead / Stuck Pixels MBA

    Hi everyone,
Just got a brand new MBA from JB Hi Fi. Much to my disappoinment the moment I turned it on there were a clump of dead or stuck pixels just to the right of the middle of my screen. Now I'm no expert on the size of a single pixel, but this is certianly noticable and may indeed be more than one together.
I took my MBA back to JBs and they currently hold it there. They told me that they had to wait until Monday morning to call Apple to see if I can get a replacement.
In the meantime, can anyone tell me the chances of getting a new MBA? I haven't even had it for 24 hours! Repair work is not an option for me because last time I had an Apple laptop repaired it came back all scratched up. Besides, surely since it was defective out of the box it can warrant replacement.
Has anyone experienced pixel problems like this? How did you go with Apple?
What steps should I be taking right now?
Thanks I really appreciate any and all comments on this. I'm really quite anrgy that this has happened!
    Ed.

I have had the same thing occur to me in the past with an Apple laptop (note: it occurs with all laptops since they use common components)... With my bad luck, it has occured to me twice now -- with both a new (within the return period), and another time almost a year later within the AppleCare period. The first one was a dead pixel, but I had another defect also with the case. Both times, I was fortunate they helped me out, and I will explain my situation below.
I would think that if it is brand new, you should return it and demand a new replacement computer (or all of your money back). You should not have to get it "repaired" which essentially makes it a "refurbished" computer. Even if it is only one or a few pixels, it should not do this within 24 hrs.
Now if it were outside the return period (such as more than 14 days), you may have a more difficult time. There apparently is an acceptable number of pixels allowed, but this all depends on the circumstances. I had a stuck bright red pixel almost dead center and some grey areas elsewhere... not good at all, and especially when showing my work to clients. I had it replaced under AppleCare.
I hope this helps you out, and I would also call up Apple and let them know. If you are not satisfied with the vendor, you might be able to work something out with Apple directly. Good luck.

  • Dead/Green Pixels on my Screen!

My iphone (purchased in August 2007) has recently acquired two green spots (you can't always see them), and a dull, white-ish spot around the same area.
    Are these dead pixels?
Is this reasonable to have in a phone less than 1 year old?

Have you tried the 'pixelfix' webapp? Go to this url from your iphone: http://www.ebaspace.com/iphone-app/#_home and follow the instructions. They claim it works - I personally haven't had any stuck pixels yet.

  • Red/Pinkish dots or smudges in images/video Canon EOS 60D (Not a Dead/Hot pixel!)

After using my 60D for almost 9 Months i'v noticed that there is Red/Pinkish dots or smudges in the upper right corner of all pictures and videos, at first i thought it was a hot or dead pixel i'v tried to do a manual sensor cleaning but i had no luck, i would really appreciate anybody's assistance, below is an image that show the blobs. PLEASE HELP!!!

Jim, thank you for an excellent responce.  I truthfully had researched the "Help" section on LightRoom and PhotoShop and found nothing that even remotely resembled your straight forward and easy to follow directions.  After upgrading to CS6 and LightRoom 4 I am delighted with all of the new features that Adobe created in PhotoShop.  I'm not sure that LightRoom 4 was as great an advancement as PhotoShop itself.
I am certainly going to give your solution a try and see how it works out for me.   I concur that I probably do not fully understand and appreciate the relationship between the two programs.  Today was my attempt of gaining a better insight to that relationship.  Thank you for your response!

  • Lots of dead (sub)pixels Nokia Lumia 520

    Hi everyone,
Yesterday, when I turned off my phone, I didn't see any dead pixel. Today when I turned on my phone I saw this: a lot of dead subpixels. A online phone store in the Netherlands recommended me to send the phone to Nokia, but I don't know if this is coverred under the quarantee, or that I have to pay it by myself. The phone is just one month old.
Should I sent this to Nokia? You can see these pixels only on a black background.

    Hi LH19,
Welcome to the Nokia Support Discussions!
Thanks for posting. If the phone is newly purchased, we advise our customers to check with their retailer about their return policy. The replacement will still depend on the discretion of the Store where you bought them.
If it exceeds the return policy period, you can send it to our Nokia Care Points for evaluation. The warranty period starts on the date purchase. If you are concern if the repair will be covered under warranty, the answer will depend on the assessment of the technician.
For more information about the warranty, you can check this link:
