Dead iPad

I've been reviewing all these posts for something that might help - My 1st Gen ipad is still dead.
I had been keeping my iTunes library on an external drive (not backed up, wah) that failed.
I think my iPad had been trying to sync with itunes via wifi when I wasn't looking, and running down the battery. And of course my iTunes library has disappeared with my external drive (no actual iTunes tunes)...  Is that possible?
Very slow flashing apple when plugged into the wall.
Two-button reset doesn't work, plugged or unplugged.
When plugged into the wall, I can hold down the Home button and get a screen with a USB image asking me to connect to itunes.
When I unplug from the wall, the screen goes blank.
When I plug into my Mini, no apple no nothing no matter what.
I guess it's got to go into the shop.

If the battery is totally dead, leave it plugged into the wall for at least a few hours before you despair. Totally drained batteries come back very slowly.

  • I have a stone cold dead iPad 2; need advice.

An instructor brought a refurbished iPad 2 to me because it wouldn't take a charge.  It was "alive" when it came to me.  I put it on charge but after about 4% more charge being taken, it would stop taking charge.  I examined the Settings and Notifications and couldn't find anything obviously wrong.  I decided to leave it on charge overnight to see if it would start charging again.  The next day it was completely dead.
My question is actually quite simple:  What do I try next?  I wouldn't be posting this message if it was a computer, either Windows or Mac.  I know things to try with those operating systems.  I am much less familiar with iOS so any help would be appreciated.  Thanks

    Hi Technician7,
I had a user bring an iPad to me yesterday with very similar symptoms. It was "dead" by the time it got to me, even though it had been plugged in for a long time. I plugged it in to power with a known good cable and known good power brick for an hour or two at my desk. I then tried the reset (holding power AND home button for about 15 seconds) while it was plugged in to power and it booted up. The battery was still very low, but after that it started to charge up.
    Hope this helps!

Not sure if this is also necessary if the iPad is dead but...

  • DEAD IPAD! NEEDED HELP!

well....my ipad had been dead for a very very very long time( a few months or so).........how do i charge it? im so dead am i????

Have you tried charging it for at least 15 minutes with its own charger ? If the battery is completely empty then it can take a while before it has enough charge to power on - if after 15 minutes it hasn't powered on then try a soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds and see if the Apple logo appears.

  • How to get files off a dead iPad 1

Mine is an iPad 1, and I got it a couple of years ago. The previous owner rarely used it, and it looked like new.
One night I put it on to charge, and it had 23% battery remaining. The next morning, it was completely unresponsive.
I have tried the hard reset method (holding power/home buttons at same time for 1 minute) as well as DFU recovery mode, and neither creates a response. The screen stays blank with no signs of power.
Plugging it into the computer with iTunes running does nothing. iTunes does not recognize the iPad. I have an iPhone also, and iTunes does recognize it, and the charger for the iPad works with the iPhone just fine. So this is just the iPad, not my cords.
I have pages and pages of notes on the iPad and did not use Cloud to back them up because our Wifi is so slow.
How can I get them back?

If it's truly dead then there is no way to get the data. If it's just a battery problem, then you may be able to just get a battery replaced and find your data are still there. But I would see if you can determine just what the problem is before going further. Your local Apple retailer should be able to help by providing a diagnosis.

  • How to check in a dead ipad in apple configurator

Im using apple configurator to supervise a fleet of Ipads, one has unfortunately died and I cannot seem to work out how I can check in the failed ipad so I can check out a replacement to the end usetr who was assigned the failed ipad.

didn't i say? i use the svnkit, formerly known as
    javasvn.Nope. You never said
java doesn't support that.Whatever that means
afaik, svnkit doesn't have a forum..But it does have a Wiki, and some documentation. Have you tried there? I remember JavaSVN being poorly documented, but equally, hardly anyone has actually used it, so you're unlikely to get help here

  • Dead iPad 1 crashed when installing iOS 5.1

    Hi
My iPad 1 64 /3G which has all the regular crashing abilities discussed on this forum has finally died
It crashed whilst installing iOS 5.1
It will not restart , the battery is showing critical low level despite 24hrs of charging
Can any body help ?  I have tried holding both buttons several times, it starts then shuts down after showing the low battery symbol, despite being on its proper power mains supply
Does not respond at all when connected to iTunes.

I had the same problem and was ready to throw It in the trash. Last night I erased my iPad and set it up as new iPad instead of restoring. I didn't turn on iCloud until after I deleted my iCloud backup and turned off contact syncing with it. Since then it hasn't crashed and it has had about 4 hours of use. 5.0.1 didn't have an effect on it. Just happy I got my iPad back!

  • 2 stupid question - for Brain Dead iPad user

Tried to register iPad AppleCare Protection Plan on-line. Couldn't find registration number inside the box, only 2 pamphlets on getting started. Tried using the numbers on the sticker on outside of box but they didn't work either....Help?
Lastly, I purchased Breaking Bad season 1 in HD, downloaded and viewed all episodes. Tried to do same for season 2 and got error message I don't have enough space to dowload. Checked settings and showing 22 GB free. Ideas? Thank you!

Generally when you purchase AppleCare at the same time as the covered product, the plan is registered automatically and there's nothing you need to go. You can enter in your iPad's serial number and check the coverage here:
    https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do
though if you just bought the iPad, it may take a couple of weeks before it appears in the database due to the very high load during the holiday season.
I'm not sure about the capacity issue. You might try restarting your iPad (hold down the power and home button until you get the red "swipe to turn off" screen) and see if that makes a difference.
    Regards.

  • My iPad mini is dead. Please help. I have tried pressing the home and lock buttons, it just wont work.

    Hi,
Last week, whilst charging my ipad mini, I took a look at it was charged upto 91%. I then decided to let it continue charging till 100% and would unplug it then. 30 Minutes later, I returned to my charger to find a dead ipad.
I tried everything (including pressing the home and lock screen) but it would not wake up. I then promptly took it to the service centre at Plaza Singapura and the customer service personnel said I would either need to pay SGD 450 for a replacement or alternatively just leave it as it is, dead.
Hence, I am urging the person reading this message to kindly suggest a better solution to re-awaken my dead iPad and also my faith in the company.
    Thanks

If the Apple Authorised Service Provider has quoted you an out of warranty service fee then they have most likely found a hardware fault. If that is the case the iPad does need to be serviced, whether it is with the Service Provider or a 3rd party company is up to you. Keep in mind going with a 3rd party option can cause you to be denied serviced from Apple in any future services.

  • Major iPad 2 problem maybe dead......

First let me say I have all the latest updates on my iPad and Macbook 10.6.8 and iTunes 11 so I know that is not the problem.
Over the past few days my iPad 2 has been randomly shutting down when it was not being used. Sometimes it would do it in a few minutes other time it take a couple of hours before shutting down. When this happen I had to restart it by holding down the home button and the on switch at the same time.
Well it turned itself off again last night and I was unable to wake it up by holding down the home button and the on/off switch on the edge has I have done in the past. So I plugged it into my MacBook and iTunes recognized it and said it was in recovery mode. So I told iTunes to restore it. iTunes downloaded the software and after the download the top window in iTunes says "Waiting for iPad......." and has been like that for over 10 hours now. When I try to quit iTunes it says it can't because it is restoring the iPad.
So now I have what appears to be a dead iPad that I can't gracefully disconnect from iTunes and in addition I can't gracefully shutdown iTunes.
Any ideas what I can try next?
If the iPad died a hardware death is it worth getting it fixed or would it be cheaper to get a new one?

    Hello:
If the iPad died a hardware death is it worth getting it fixed or would it be cheaper to get a new one?
I suggest you go to an Apple store for guidance.  I believe they have some sort of program for a replacement at a reduced cost.

  • My ipad is dead - itunes won't work - I'm at my wits end

I tried to restore my ipad by connecting it to itunes on pc via usb - it wiped it but won't restore it as itunes says it can't connect to the internet.
I have been through every option I can find on the internet - opening as an admin - clearing the various wotsits via command prompt, checking firewall and bonjour and allowing pop ups etc etc - any suggestion syou can find on the web I have tried.
In desperation I deleted itunes and thought I'd just reinstall it but the set up wont run as it says it can't connect to the internet!!
I set up a call with apple support - they rang on time and the conversation went thus:
[Recorded voice] welcome to Apple please press 1 to speak to an advisor [I press 1] - sorry we're closed - dial tone
They called back two minutes later and it went exactly the same way!!!
So now I have a totally dead ipad - no itunes and no support. Help. If anyone can help please help. You will have my undying gratitude and love.

I had the same problem with my old original iPad 1.  I read somewhere (maybe even in this forum) to try a 12-watt charger.  I bought the Apple 12-Watt power adapter on Amazon for 19.95 (also available at Apple stores for the same price) and plugged that iPad in today and it IS charging and everything on it is accessible!!  I am amazed and thrilled!  I wasn't optimistic with this fix, but it sure worked!  You might want to try it, too.  BTW...everything is still there..no restore needed.
