Dead iPhone?

I think my iPhone fried itself while driving on a business trip. I was driving for several hours listening to podcasts and occasionally checking maps. I was using an FM transmitter to charge the iPhone while listening to music. I stopped at a rest stop and left the phone in the charger. When I got back the screen was frozen. I tried holding Sleep/Wake to restart it normally, but it did not respond. I then tried holding Sleep/Wake and Home to hard boot it but the phone still did not respond. It the proceeded to get extremely hot as if it was quickly draining the battery. It was almost too hot to hold; I was afraid it was going to damage itself so I held it up to the A/C vent which did seem to keep it somewhat cooler. After about an hour and a half it seemed to have completely drained the battery and it remained cool from that point. Still no success with the Sleep/Wake + Home. I tried to recharge it on the FM transmitter but still no luck. Once I got to my hotel room I tried charging it on my work laptop but It never even showed up as being connected. I normally sync with my Intel iMac at home, but will not have access to it for the next two weeks. All I have is my Dell work laptop. I have made an appointment at the nearest Apple store tomorrow (2 hours away )but was hoping someone here might have some other suggestions that I might try.
Thanks!
Caleb

Unfortunately I do not have the A/C adapter; I planned to use my laptop for charging.
You might want to pick up another charger at the Apple Store. Using laptops is a drag: At least with mine as soon as it goes to sleep it quits charging the iPhone, which can be most inconvenient. Good luck tomorrow!

  • Completely DEAD iPhone 3GS, Data Recovery ?HELP?

I have a iPhone 3GS 16GB, The other day it just went off? tried unplugging it from the mains and plugging it back in again, but nothing happened.
I tried to get it to go into DFU mode, Nothing!
Plugged it into my Desktop PC, Nothing showed in itunes?
I had it tested by a local phone shop and they said they did all the scans/checks and whatnot that they could and the iphone is a complete dud!:(
But i really need the data that is on there?
I have been told that if i take it to an apple store they can do a data retract for me?
What are my options for a complete dead iphone but needing the data on there?

Apple does not offer and will not perform any data recovery service.
A simple google search will reveal multiple data recovery services, if you really need such a service and are willing to pay an arm, a leg, and give up your first born child for that data.
If the device has been used as designed, it would have been backed up regularly to iTunes or iCloud.
Simply restore that backup to a new iOS device.
Contacts and calendars should be synced to a supported application on the computer or a cloud service.
Pictures taken with the device should be regularly copied off the device to a computer as would be done with any digital camera.

my iphone was stolen, when i tracked my phone its already offline so without hesitation i deleted it. Is there any other way to track it using serial number? or make the phone good as a dead iphone?

Sorry, there is no way to track your phone. Call your carrier, & if they offer blacklisting, have them blacklist your phone.
Since you're running iOS 7.0. the phone is useless to anyone but you, as it cannot be re-activated without knowing your Apple ID/Password.

  • 2G phone not working with "Dead iPhone" message

There's an old 2G iphone my son was using, when the phone part just stopped working; it says "no service".  As far as I can tell, everything else is just fine. I used the sim card in a different phone so it's not the card.  With the phone plugged into computer, the device actually comes up as "Dead iPhone" as well as when looking in phone menu under "about", the same "Dead iPhone" descriptor.  Any suggestions on what to try?

Where do you see "Dead Iphone?"
It is likely that you're looking at the name of the iPhone.  You see that because someone wanted to title the bacups that are resident on the computer.
The status of the service is an entirely separate issue.  Contact your carrier, to make sure the SIM card is active on the network.

  • Is there any way to retrieve photos from a dead iphone 4?

The mainboard on my wife's iPhone 4 has died maybe due to water. It's dead and I've had it confirmed by apple. Photostream was not on and it wasn't backed up in a long time.

no, there is no way to retrieve your photos short of some forensic service that would likely cost you thousands of dollars.

  • Dead iPhone 5 pixel

Hello, I live in the UK and have bought a sim free iPhone 5 from an apple store about 60 days ago. The phone had developed a dead pixel to the mid left of the screen, if I return to the store what can I expect to happen and do I need to take anything other than the phone with me.

    Call and find out.

  • HT4623 ....dead iphone 4s

plugged it into the charger last night.....this morning it is dead.....tryed holding down both buttons.....can anyone help?

Keep on wall charger and perform the Reset for at least 20 seconds, hold both home and power buttons. If nothing, all iPhone 4S have Warranty, make Genius reservation and take to Apple.

  • Dead iPhone 3GS after ATT Unlock

After I upgraded to a 4S, I kept my 3GS in hopes of someday unlocking it for my wife to use on t-Mobile. I was pleased to hear that ATT and Apple would provide an Unlock for out of contract iPhones. I got the unlock and everything went well for about week. Then one morning the 3GS was completely dead. I tried every reset and plugging it in to every type of charger. Still dead. I even took into the Apple Store and they said they couldn't do anything and would replace the 3GS for $150. This phone worked fine until the unlock, it may be coincidence but phone has never been dropped, or wet and is grreat condition. $150 is not an excessive amount if I can unlock it, which Apple says I can. I thought about replacing the battery for about $25 but Apple says that if I open it up the $150 is off the table. I would like to keep this phone since it is already unlocked and if I replace the battery could Apple really tell.
    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

When ATT unlocked my iphone 3gs, it also turned into a brick. Completely died. I was traveling in Europe at the time, and wanted to switch out the sim card. When it died, boarding passes, reservations, directions, contacts, camera, etc, all gone. Totally aggravating. I had replaced a few parts over the years. It was old, but it still worked great, before the unlock.
Anyway, when I got home, I took out the battery and tested it, and sure enough it still had 3.5v. (I had replaced the battery maybe a year before.) And just for my own edification, I replaced the dock connector, thinking maybe that was the cause. Nope. Still wouldn't even be recognized on USB...let alone itunes.
When I went into Apple store, they confirmed that the phone was probably too old to support the software/change. Fair enough. But apparently, ATT unlocking phones has been problematic. Here's an recent example:
    http://www.wsj.com/articles/SB10001424052702303559504579195881629809394
If it happens to you, I suggest demanding a credit from the carrier. ATT gave me $170. I bought a used, factory-unlocked GSM iphone 5s. swappa.com worked great. And going non-contract cut my mobile phone bill by two-thirds.

  • Retrieving contacts from dead Iphone 3g

My Iphone 3g is dead.   Is there anyway to retrieve my contacts? I read that they're stored on the phone and not the sim card - is that true?  I have the sim card.  I was considering buying another 3g just to have my hundreds and hundreds of contacts, but not sure that would do any good.  I'd really like to get a newer Iphone.  But, I'd reallly like to get my contacts - kinda lost without them. Tips?  Advice? Kat

iPhone does not store you information on the SIM card. Your iPhone should be backed up regularly with iTunes or iCloud. This is the usual way to save you iPhone information.
Any iPhone is capable of excepting a backup of your contacts.
Some customers back up to ATT locker.
