Dead keys are working badly in Word

Hi,
I have "imported" a weird problem from a Word file my husband sent me: he has problems with using dead keys with Word and, since I read his file (an .rtf file, if that is of any help) so have I.
We write mainly in Portuguese; we have a Portuguese keyboard layout and have to use diacritics often. So, we use dead keys often.
Now, when I press a dead key in Word, instead of seeing the diacritical mark blinking on the screen witing for me to press the next key (in order to type the accented char. I need), the cursor moves back to the previous position and when I type the second key, this is the only one that shows on screen.
For instance, to type " á " I have to type " ´ " and then " a ". Now, most of the times I only get an " a ".
How can I have contracted this annoying bug (if it is a bug) just from reading his file? How can I get rid of it? The dead keys do work, but the amount of time they are active on screen is very short.

This is not a keyboard layout problem, because GTK apps work correctly. It's just the Qt-apps that fail.
Also if you are using a Desktop Enviorment you can set these settings there instead, but they should have been detected automaticaly. That could probably explain the diference between both your computers.
I'm not using any. (Openbox on both).

There is almost no chance it can be recovered, except at a cost far greater than a new keyboard. Once wet, spraying with a cleaner will not do any good and most likely will make the situation worse.
Best thing at this point is go to your Apple store, or the on-line store, and buy a new keyboard. Water damage is not covered by the warranty or AppleCare.

TS4006 No keys are working on my Ipad. I cant even reboot the device

Since evening all my folders in my IPAD are shaking ( it generally happens when we change the location of some apps) after the no keys are working and folders are still skaing. I am unable to use my apps. All I can do is to change the location only.
Need your help to resolute this issue.

I think you are in the wrong community discussion here.
But there is one thing you first do when the iPad is not doing what you want:
hold the Home button AND the Power button at the same time, keep holding, ignore everything at the screen, keep holding until the white Apple logo appears, then let go and let the iPad start up completely.
This sort of soft reset, without losing your data.

8900 only number keys are working on keyboard and symbols only showing numbers

Hi All
curve 8900 - I turned the handheld off last night and this morning only the number keys are working on keyboard and when I press symbols it only showing numbers. Did i press an unusual key combination? I tried taking battery out and restarting.
Can anyone help me out?

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
You did not state fully, so I cannot know if you did the battery pull properly (with power ON). Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.

HP Pavilion Laptop; Only Special Function Keys are Working

I got my first HP laptop, a HP Pavilion 17-e049wm Notebook, refurbished a few months ago when my original quit out. Until recently, I've been more than happy with its performance. However, a few weeks ago the keyboard started acting both weird and also not working. I'll try to provide as much information as I can, and thank you in advance for your assistance!
Circumstances before the event:
-The night before, my keyboard worked one hundred percent fine. I played some games and went to sleep with it closed and hibernating like I always have. The next morning, I took it up with me to play music as I showered. Before I'm accused of water-damaging it, my laptop was very far from shower, so no direct water contact occured, and also we shower with the door open, so there was no build up of steam or humidity that could've done it that couldn't be present in any other situation. I knew that it worked that morning, as I must have logged in to play my music. After closing it and bringing it to my car (without drops or any other jarring), I learned a few hours later that my keyboard had stopped working.
-My house doesn't have internet and I havn't recently installed anything, so it's doubtful that some kind of software did it to me.
What the keyboard does(n't do):
-Almost every key doesn't work. The letters, esc, enter, shifts, fn, numberpad, caps lock, etc. I've tried them each, and none work.
-There are two exclusions to the above statement:
-The 'special' function keys; All of the keys that share space with my function keys work fine. So my mute, pause, change display, brightness controls, help shortcut, airplane mode, etc. work. So everything from F1 to F12 work.
-Before anyone assumes that my fn key is stuck or something, the special part is the default. On my keyboard, you hold down the fn key to do the normal fn key functions (f11 skips to the next song, fn+f11 does fullsrceen).
-Also, I'm not sure if my 'normal' functions work. I tried holding fn on this USB keyboard and then the f# keys, but the 'special' function still is the one that works. However, as I have no control, I don't know if that would have happened anyways.
-The second exception, which makes me doubt that it is a hardware problem, is that if I hold 'X' and 'C' at the same time, the brightness lowers, as if I tapped my f2 key. Each of those do nothing on their own, but when pushed together, they act identical to the f2.
-Another thing is that my ported keyboard's caps lock indicator light still shines when either the USB or on-screen's caps lock keys are used.
What I've tried:
-Turn it off and back on
-Turn it off, take out battery, hold the power button, wait, turn on with/without battery
-Uninstall keyboard driver, restart
-Summoning a demon
-Tried to update driver (can't, up-to-date)
-Check status through device manager (claims that it's running fine)
I've basically tried everything I could find that seemed relatively useful from browsing the forums, but it's on my third week keyboardless, nothing works, and I'm so tired of using my girlfriends pretty, sparkling and bedazzled, purple USB keyboard from her days in middle school. If nothing works, I'll have to resort to the system resets and lose applications and my files, which would be a mad bummer yo.

Hello and thank you so much for posting on the HP support forums. Now please I am not stating you have done anything wrong in any way. This kind of thing happens all the time.
You do not need a bunch of steam to cause an issue with water for one thing.
Inside your notebook is a huge differential in temperature zones. If you take a notebook into a shower room even if your water is slightly above room temp there is ample moisture in the air.
Air has to travel and if your notebook was on the counter and it is between your shower and the door, any moisture in the air gets to get heated way up and then gets to cool way down and gather on the little metal bits in your notebook.
It only takes one drop of water the size of a pin head to bridge a connection and cause a short.
I hope this is not the case. I am hoping that the connection cable for your keyboard has come loose.

Check to make sure the keyboard cable didnt just come loose. Very easy fix. If it is connected and nothing is loose then you are looking at a replacement keyboard or if the board did get some moisture on it from condensation then you will need to have it sent in for repair.

Output audio is dead meters are working

Final Cut Express 4.0.1 on iMac 10.6.8. I just turned on my mac and the FCE came up as usual. Problem there is no sound. When I go to iTunes sound is fine. The meters are working but no sound. How did I mess it up?

Sometimes my Mac - get's the idea to turn off the sound-out - without me asking for it or haveing any idea about Why.
BUT then I go to the Apple Menu
down to System Preferenses
to Audio
to Audio Out and move it to full again
It use to work.

No Audio
Most common origin is use of audio from iTunes.
Work around -
• Select needed audio to one new playlist
• Copy out this as an Audio-CD .aiff (not .mp3)
• Use this in the movie-project
Other origins are
1. strange / alient file formats as -
• .mp3, .avi, .wmv etc
• Convert them into .aiff 48kHz 16-bit and use this
2. the Mac is set wrongly in regard of midi -
• Close iMovie and other programs
• Start GarageBand
• Make a new GB-project and play some notes
• Close GB and Save
• Now try iMovie again
3. No audio when playback in iMovie 1 to HD 6.
a. in iMovie pref. - deselect ” Playback via Camera”
b. in System preferences - see that Audio out is not set to zero. Mine often does this
without me knowing why.
4. iMovie’08 & 09 & 11
• Toggle audio-scimming by cmd-K
Stuttering audio and video
1. FileVault is ON - Turn it off
2. More than 50 audio files in a movie-project
Mix down to one audio clip
3. Project is stored on one (USB) external hard disk - should be a FireWire one
4. the External hard disk is not Mac OS Extended formatted - but
UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange and this will not work for Video.
5. To little free space on internal boot hard disk.
I go for a minimum of 25Gb free space when project is imported and edited and this goes for
4x3 SD Video. For 16x9 HD my guess would be about 5 times more at least.
Neither Mac OS, iMovie or iDVD can address any other hard disk than the boot drive for it’s
scratch files. (Unlike Final Cut Express/Pro where You select scratch disk/s)

T550 only some FN keys are working

Is there an area to manage FN keys on the newer T series laptops? I noticed when I got it that I could not use the hotkeys that are for F9 through F12 and that was not too big of a deal as they are search and such but I was checking the turn off wireless key (f8) and it does not seem to work. For my work I often have to turn off the wireless as I program alot of ethernet based devices. I also just installed windows 10 and I can't remember if it worked before on windows 8 was on or if it just stopped working (I just got this laptop a week or so ago). If I could manage them myself that would be great! Any help is apreciated. Maybe a driver is wrong?

Obviously this registry cleaner has sterilized the registry and you lose some functions. Try to fix this reinstalling Toshiba tools and utilities. As R2D2 wrote start with Toshiba common modules. It must be installed at first.

None of the keys are working

My 8830 seem to be locked out... Tried all keyboard combinations (* + Send, Alt + Enter, Held 'A') even taking battery out... None of the keys (and buttons) work, just the track ball... I even have to plug and unplug power cable to turn the screen on... Please advise... Thanks

I've had a simular situation where the trackball wasn't working. I'd be interested to see how your issue is resolved.

My whole screen froze,no keys are working

I have open 3 windows and as i tried moving from one to another the screen froze and the track pad was not reponding.
There is a constant knocking noise. What to do ?

Dead keys in keyboard no longer working

I use "us-acentos" keymap and since 2014-09-24 upgrade the dead keys are no longer working: typing apostrophe followed by "e" should print "é" but instead it just prints the apostrophe.
This under X both in bash and in a graphical editor such as leafpad, geany, netbeans. In a non-X session the dead keys do not work either, an apostrophe followed by "e" will just display a space.
Would anyone have any suggestion as to why this happened and how to correct it? Thank you.

1) I could restore the keyboard in X with this command:
$ localectl set-x11-keymap us pc104 alt-intl
which creates /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/00-keyboard.conf:

another option that worked was to rename /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-evdev.conf.pacsave to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-evdev.conf, which also contained the "XkbLayout" and "XkbVariant" lines under "InputClass" (the original file had been renamed to .pacsave in February 2013). See wiki:

So it seems that the result of an earlier upgrade was to "unset" the keyboard for X (compare with output from localectl status in original post). Why?
2) the keyboard in console (out of X) is still not working. If I try to set it to "us-alt-intl" in /etc/vconsole.conf, it works as "us" should (no dead keys); it I use "us-acentos" some keys do not work. locale-ctl shows that "us-acentos" does exist (but not "us-alt-intl").

Function keys are not working on a paired apple bluetooth keyboard

hello, I just got this apple bluetooth keyboard and paired it to my ipad2. The letter and number keys are working perfectly fine, but my ipad will not respond to F1 to F12 keys,I tried Fn+F1-F12 they are not working. Then I tried to restart both my ipad and keyboard but the problem is still there. Additionally, Command+arrows can't function either. command+space is working though. Could some one please help? thanks a lot!

It might have been functionality that Apple has removed in the current version of iOS. This old web article says the function keys worked in iOS3, but that's a couple of years ago:

Just to clarify, it only works when the phone is plugged in and charging. What happens when you try to activate it? Is there any error message?

I have even updated the bios also not working, I went to bios and made to load default value. my problem is not solved
i try to remove the xp and tried to go for Fedora 12, there also i am facing the same problem.

Keyboard keys are not working at startup

when i start my laptop the keys of keyboard are not working except the movement key and numeric enter key.
but when i turn of the narrator keys are starts working excepts some (such as: right control, function keys in some way,i.e.
wi-fi, volume,brightness & other are not working ) everytime.even it wake up from stand by mode.

follow this steps please ,
1. Right click on My Computer Icon > Properties > Device manager (on the left side)
2. find the Keyboard > Right click on it > CHeck for updates
3. Make sure that you installed the right Driver for Your Keyboard proided from HP official website
if these didn't help
try using another OS (replace your Win version)
** for experts only : you can use UBUNTU live disk to check the Keyboard without uninstalling you win version
if changing the OS didn't help
now it's one of two things
1. there is a problem with your BIOS
2. there is a HW problem
and in both cases i don't recommend you to start solving it yourself
Updating the BIOS is very sesitive operation and also the HW problems
so please look for the nearest HP support center to your city
and make sure that they will solve your Problem
