Dead Pavilion dm4 Laptop Motherboard

I was abble to dismantle my Hp Pavilion dm4 laptop, because it refused to charge wen i plugged its charger to it neither did it come up wen i tried to power it. I narrowed the symptoms to a possible component failure on the motherboard. I checked the board and saw this number (zidane 2b 6050A2435101 MB-A02). Any ideas where I cld possible find an exact replacement for it. I live in West Africa, Nigeria. If its available.......plz I would appreciate if I cld get directives on how to purchase it.

Hi NECROMANCER274, and welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you are getting a blank screen and your caps lock button is blinking. I will try my best to help you with this problem.  To better guide you, could you please give me the full model number or product number of your Notebook and the operating system that is currently running on it. Here are some guides for How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number? and Which Windows operating system am I running?
In the meantime, this document for Blank Screen LED Error Codes will have information on the blinking Caps light.
I hope this helps, please let me know how it goes.
Thank you and have a great day!

  • Internal Microphone not working on Pavilion dm4 Laptop

I have an IDT High Definition Audion CODEC internal microphone on a Pavilion dm4 laptop.
I was advised by an helpful HP support person to uninstall and re-install drivers and this I have done a couple of times.
Occasionally the microphone works but more often it is still not working from Start up. It is not working today!
I am trying to use Skype.
I have checked that the driver is up to date. ( right click on IDT in Device Manager) and this was confirmed.
I would be very grateful for any other suggestions.
    Christopher

    Thanks for the suggestion.
I opened the Sound control panel as you suggested and the Internal Mic (IDT) is shown in the list of microphones and has a green tick ( and is already enabled in properties). It is selected as a default device. ( the icon shows a picture of the laptop indicating the microphone on the lid  not the picture of the microphone as shown in your clip)
In the Sound control window there is a sound indicator panel to the right of the internal Mic Icon that has a green bar that moves up and down - indicating that the microphone is responding to sound.
However it is still not working in Skype and it is the Internal Mic that is selected as the device here.
Very frustrating as I really would like to Skype. I tried uninstalling and re-installing Skype Version 5.5.0.117 and this has not made any difference.
    Any other thoughts?
    Christopher

  • Icons do not display using Windows 7 on HP Pavilion DM4 laptop. They display with Chrome browser-same laptop. Also display on Dell desktop with Windows XP

    An example:
In gmail, when you click on an email in your in-box, icon graphics depicting options for the selected email (e.g., trash box, etc.) show up in Chrome but are replaced by empty rectangle images in Firefox or Internet Explorer. You can move the cursor over each box to get text to display explaining the option and then click on it and it will work. On my Dell desk top PC, the icon graphics show up in Firefox as well as IE and Chrome.

  • Pavilion DM4 doesn't start after motherboard replacement

My wife accidentally left her Pavilion DM4 in our RV with the roof vents open during a recent storm. Not surprisingly, it didn't survive the watering. We shipped it to the Best Buy service center for assessment and they claimed that the motherboard is fried and that they couldn't order a spare one anymore because "the model is too old."  I ordered one on eBay that was supposedly pulled from a working unit and swapped it myself (transferring the old processor to the new motherboard). Unfortunately - despite all the drumrolls I was able to simulate - it didn't wake up after surgery.  The HP logo on the back of the display, the orange LED on the f12 key (Wifi antenna logo), as well as the green LED built into the power button all blink in 3s intervals.
There is a white LED next to the power plug and if I put the battery in that LED turns orange. So it seems like the power supply works and is charging the battery, right?
    What else could it be?
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Dear Mrstenter, thanks much for your response!  I tried a master reset, as well as reseating the memory and HDD - no change. There is no audible noise of any kind (no beeping, no fan, no HDD spinning). And unfortunately the blinking I'm experiencing doesn't match any of the error codes listed in that document. It just keeps blinking briefly every 3 seconds and doesn't stop.I left it plugged in and the orange battery charging light had changed to white when I checked it after a couple of hours. So I think the power supply and battery charging unit is working. If it was a problem with the display connector I'd think that the blinking wouldn't be as persistent and I'd hear the HDD spinning up.  But as it stands it seems like it just doesn't come to live at all.   The motherboard came from a vendor who prides themselves with "no DOA" policy and they claim it came out of a new laptop (which sounds strange, but it actually looked fairly new).  But of course nobody can guarantee that (I'll try to return it if I can't get it to run).  My biggest concern is whether the processor is still intact.  Is it possible that it died too during the water damage? Does anyone know what the continued blinking means? Thanks,Martin

  • HP Pavilion DM4 1150ea laptop looking for a replacement hard drive (WD504AV).

Hello i am looking to replace my faulty 500 gig 7200rpm sata hard drive (WD504AV) , with one that is compatible with the hp pavilion dm4 1150ea laptop, i am using windows 7 home premium, do i need the same make and model or can i choose any 500 gig hard drive. Many Thanks in Advance.

    Hi,
You free to choose the make of HDD ( and you could install a 750Gb HDD - see maintenance guide below ), but as an example, the drives on the link below would be fine for your notebook.
    500Gb Hard Drive
    750Gb Hard Drive
The procedure to replace the Hard Drive starts on Page 57 of your Maintenance & Service Guide.
Once done, simply use your Recovery DVDs to reinstall the Operating System on the new drive.
If you don't have your Recovery Discs, youcan order a replacement set using the link below.

  • HP Pavilion dm4-3055dx

Ok so yesterday i turned on my laptop, a HP Pavilion dm4-3055dx Entertainment Notebook PC, and I got a disturbing message that a hard drive failure was imminent. I tried to run a check on my hard drive by pressing F2 during start up but every time I've tried my computer freezes for a few seconds then tells me that the check failed. I've read a little about this issue and from what I've found it sounds like I'm going to have to completly replace my hard drive. I honestly don't understand what could have happened because the computer has been stationary for days and the message came out of nowhere.
I guess my main questions are: 1) Is it possible that some connection has simply come loose or is there anything I should try before resorting to replacing the hard drive? and 2) This is my only computer so I won't be able to refer to this board during and after the install. I know most of the software and drivers are available on the HP Support Website but what about my operating system? Is there any way i can download my version of windows (without having to purchase it considering I've already purchased it when I first bought my computer) and maybe transfer it to my smart phone and then back to my computer or put it on a disc or something? And i guess 3) What exactly should I expect after installing a new hard drive? I've done a complete (like to factory condition) reset recently so I'm not really concerned with any personal data but if I can reinstall windows will I be able to use my wifi and access the internet immediately after or will I have to put all my drivers and my browser on a disc to use afterwards? Like what all do I need to save and have available after replacing the hard drive?
I appologize for the length/number of questions I just asked but I'm really clueless about this entire thing and just want to make sure I'm prepared. Thanks for reading and I look foreward to any/all help.

Did you perhaps make the recovery disks the system prompts you to make when you first turn it on? Assuming not, in your situation it might be best to call HP to order a recovery disk set. Your laptop came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and we can link you to a place to download a disk image but you would need another computer (working) to burn a DVD or make a bootable thumb drive.
    http://www.w7forums.com/threads/official-windows-7-sp1-iso-image-downloads.12325/page-2#post-124821
These are .iso files which need to be burned to a disk using specific software or you can use this Microsoft USB/DVD tool:
    http://lifehacker.com/5423747/windows-7-usb-download-tool-lets-you-install-windows-from-a-thumb-driv...
You can also save off your drivers to install so you do have immediate internet access.

  • HP Pavilion dm4. Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause

    Hi,
I have an HP Pavilion dm4-3114TX running Windows 7.
The laptop went to sleep during a windows update then froze, so I pulled the battery out to restart it. Each time it restarted it kept taking me to a grey screen. I've tried F8, F2, F10, F11, going to advanced settings and no matter what I click on it takes me back to the grey screen with no options (the cusor does move though). It did let me run memory tests though and they seemed to be fine.
I then pulled the internal hard drive out (probably shouldn't of done that) and put it back in. It does the same thing, only this time it's a black screen (cursor moves but is over sized).
I've got file's on there that I do want back, but at the point where I don't care and will wipe it all to factory settings, but unable to even get to those options. I have brought recovery disc's but they don't seem to help either.
Any help would be much appreciated,
    Thanks.

    Hi @DannyLongLegs ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I would like to take a moment and thank you for using the forum, it is a great place to find answers. For you to have the best experience in the HP forum, I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
I understand that while doing a Windows update the computer went to sleep and then froze. You removed the battery to restart it but you only get a grey screen.
You were able to access the diagnostics and test the memory and it was fine.  You removed the hard drive and reinstalled it.
Now when you boot up you have a black or blank screen but it is oversized.
There are some recent Windows updates that have been causing some issues.
First I would try to boot into safe mode to remove the most recent updates. Please look for these and remove them if found.
    KB2982791,  KB2970228, KB2975719 and KB2975331.
Another program that may be causing this issue is "Search Protect" if that is located please remove it also.
    Entering Safe Mode (Windows 7)
See which Windows updates are installed ( from window.microsoft.com)
Here is a link to Troubleshooting Black Screen Displays with No Error Messages During Startup or Boot
If the issue is not yet resolved I would do a recovery back to factory.  Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 7)
During the recovery process you will see an option to backup your personal files to prevent loss.  As you stated you have files you would like to retrieve, I would do the backup.
Restoring Files that were Backed Up Using HP Recovery Manager (Windows 7)
Please let me know if this has helped.

  • HDMI not being detected on Pavilion dm4

Hello, I have a pavilion dm4-1165dx and for some reason my laptop won't detect the hdmi cable when I have it plugged into a tv. I have done this before and the labtop has connected and I was able to connect my xbox with the same cable so I know it's not that. Also when I open Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel for some reason under the display tab and subsequently under the Monitor/TV settings tab it says Monitors/ TV settings not supported, but I've used this before to connect it to the tv. Thanks for your help

    >I have done this before and the labtop has connected
Did it work with the same hdmi cable?
Sometimes it's a cable quality problem.
Have you updated the graphics driver?

  • Pavilion dv4405nr laptop hard drive and recovery

    Hi,
My daughter's Pavilion dv4405nr laptop's HDD (Samsung MP0804H Spinpoint M Series 80GB) is dead. It doesn't boot, and BOIS HDD test gives error 7. I took the HDD out, and connected it to several PCs (home, work) using two HDD universal adapters (like a BYTECC, and a NewTech) I left it spinning for about 6 hours. The PC sees the mass storage device, but it never shows up in MyComputer with a letter assigned. By right-clicking the working HDD and checking its properties, it lists all HDDs and I can see the damaged one listed w/o a letter assigned. I click to load volume information but all displays zeroes. I downloaded a Seagate-Samung utility to test the drive, and got the same error I had gotten with the laptop's BIOS utility.
Can this HDD be recovered? Is there a utility that can recover it?
If the answer is no: I connected the HDD back into the laptop, and set the boot sequence to DVD drive. I inserted the "All-In-One Recovery DVDs" for this laptop, but they didn't boot. Aren't the recovery DVDs bootable?
Your help and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
    Sincerely,
    Richard

It looks like this unit came with Windows XP. It really depends on when in XP's production cycle the unit was released on how recovery works.
I am afraid the HDD is beyond salavaging at this point and the hard drive will need to be replaced. The recovery more than likely will fail on the bad HDD.
Early units came with recovery disks, one of which was labeled Operating System, and some used the F10 recovery and required making the recovery disks using a program (these units did not come with disks).
Is there a disk labeled as Operating System or Disk 1 of X?
If it is Disk 1 of X, then you would start with it, but start with Operating System if there is one labeled that.

  • Flashing black screen hp pavilion dm4

For a few weeks/months (since mid august) now my laptop (hp pavilion dm4-2070us) has been flashing a black screen every so often, sometimes repeatedly within a few minute time span or there could be hours at a time that it does not flash. Also, only parts of the screen flashes black not the whole thing. I have taken it to the store I bought it from and another store and they said it could need a new screen, but I am not sure if this is a hardware problem. The laptop has no water damage and no other external damage. I do not know if this is a sign of a crashing computer.
    Thank you for your help!

A flashing screen is usually a hardware problem, along the lines of a damaged ribbon cable. However, there are a few things you can try to resolve the issue. Try the steps in this document and let me know if any of those help.

  • Problem in Creating New partition in Pavilion dm4 1217TX

I have a hp Pavilion dm4 1217TX model laptop. I want to partition the hard disk (640GB) to separate the OS to the data. I think this is a very basic safety feature that will save my data in case of Windows failure (which is a very common problem). I have already split the C Drive and the new condition of my hard drive is
    System           199 MB       Primary
    C                        70 GB       Primary
    Unallocated   494 GB       Logical
    Recovery           32 GB       Primary
    HP Tools        103  MB      Primary
Now I can't create partition in the Unallocated space because of 4 Primary Partition it already has. Now what can I do ? I can't understand that why it comes with four Primary Partition and without any Extended partition.

Hi, there, I have the same problem with you, because of the OEM of the laptop, they have partitioned our hard drive in advanced, however this partition is not logical. As we know, when we install Windows7, the system partition and system reserved partition are set as primary partition without doubt, but how could they make the HP tools and other partition as primary partitino too. I'm very unhappy with this. I don't know WHAT are they thinking about. Every one who has a bit comptuer knowloage knows the rules of createing new partitions in Windows.  In my situation, I could only copy the data on recovery to C drive, then delete it. and recreate logical partition, then copy it back. Hope this could also help you.

  • Mousepad not responding Pavilion dm4

Yesterday evening I woke my computer up only to find that my mousepad no longer worked. I figured it was some glitch like the many others I have found already on this laptop (Sound buttons not wanting to work correctly, mute led light not wanting to come on, etc.) And was hoping to restart and fix the problem. Today, after restarting, my mouse pad still does not work and I, apparently, am not the only one having this problem.
    My Specs:
    HP Pavilion dm4-2070us
    Windows 7 Home Prem OA
I have tried updating the driver (It said that the version that was linked to was the exact same as on my harddrive) and I have also tried updating BIOS with the same result. The mousepad IS NOT turned off. If it is the light no longer works on it as well and it is stuck in off mode. The mousepad is not showing up in control panel no matter what I do.
I'm getting tired of all the problems I have had so far out of this laptop since I've only had it since the middle of August. My friend told  me that HP was much better than Dell so I went with her instead what my gut told me. I had been bragging to everyone how wonderful this computer was but now I feel like I should go back and apologize to all my friends. Please say this is an easy fix and I'm overlooking something quite obvious. I'd hate to completely turn my back on HP for a stupid laptop.
    This question was solved.

As of right now I have resolved the issue. If anyone has a problem similar to mine, before you send it in, maybe you can try what I did. Last night I let my computer die completely then took the battery out for a few seconds. After that I plugged it in and let it charge a bit (Maybe 30 minutes?) before trying to start it up and try the mousepad again. It's working just fine now, the scoll and zoom in/out even seem to work a bit better now.

  • DISAPPEARING KEYBOARD LETTERS - PAVILION DM4

Has anyone else experienced the white painted letters coming off the keys of a new Pavilion dm4?
The letters started coming off shortly after it was purchased.  We bought the laptop for my wife to use and, understandably, she has not wanted to part with it for repair as we do not have a spare one.  So now, a few months after purchase, despite only light use the letters have completely or partially gone from 14 keys.
I am astonished that HP has produced a supposedly high quality laptop with such a shoddy keyboard!

It has happened to me.  Within two months, the N was worn off.  They replaced the whole keyboard.  Another two months or less, the N wore off again.  They replaced the keyboard.  I thought it strange that N wore off as that is not a letter like E or S used a lot but it is the dominant finger of the dominant hand so perhaps more pressure overall typing.   I waited another several months before warranty runs out next month.  Now the N is gone, also S, F, E, V, L, and M are nearly gone.   They are replacing it again but what about in a few months when it happens AGAIN after warranty.  I AM NOT HAPPY.  This is something so basic that HP screwed up.   They need to make a new keyboard with letters in top left corner so they are not struck as much and/or a better imprint.

? i have a hp pavilion g6  laptop comes on wont boot 4 months old  wont boot to hd or cd can get to bios it dont help tryed to restore was not much on it .

    Hi,
If it won't boot from the Hard Drive or Optical Drive, you may well have a fault with the Sata Controller on the Motherboard - at the end of the day, by far your best option as your notebook is still under warranty, is to contact HP and arrange for it to be repaired.
