Dead Pixel Macbook Pro 2011

What is Apple's policy on dead pixels on a Macbook Screen? I have a dead pixel on my screen and I want it fixed. I payed alot of money for this laptop to hear I need multiple dead pixels to get this fixed.

Why 14 days? I have AppleCare.
You'd have to ask Apple why they chose a 14 day return/exchange period.
AppleCare has no impact on the return period. If you purchased an extra Apple Protection Plan, it extends the hardware warranty and phone support to a total of three years.
It sounds like you're beyond the 14 return/exchange period, and below the number of bad pixels to have the display replaced, even though you're under warranty. That's something you'll have to take up with AppleCare phone support, an Apple Store, or Apple Customer Relations. This is a user to user support forum; we are not Apple.

  • USB ports are still dead on MacBook Pro 2011

I am still out here.  I have spent days weeks working on getting my two USB ports to work.  I basically use the USB ports for a wireless mouse and various flashdrives/memory sticks.  I have a MacBook Pro 2011 Snow Leopard 10.6.8  I have tried software update, SMC and PRAM resets, battery reset, hardware test, creating a new user account....and browsing and reading numerous discussion boards.....awgh!  I have stopped short of using my install DVD (fear of loosing data), upgrading to Lion or Mountain Lion (some fear of loosing an application that might not be compatible), contacting an Apple Store (AppleCare or whatever--live 2 hours away + fear of expense), and of course, trashing the laptop.  Does anyone out there have any possible solutions?   I see I am not alone.  --A frustrated first-time Apple products owner.

    franklinstahl & PhilippsXS,
The reason Apple's choice of a forum for tech support is so frustrating, is that people like yourselves, who have obviously found a solution to their problems, never come back and finish what they started.
franklinstahl you posted this 6 months ago. I don't believe you've gone for 6 mos without working USB ports. PhilippsXS, same thing. Only a month has gone by but you posted about it twice then never came back.
Please tell the community what you had to do to fix your USB ports.
I just read that on the MBP unibody models, sometimes you need to remove the battery before resetting the SMC. I'm about to try that unless you report back first.
After I try it I'll be sure to come back and report on what happened.
    GL
The other reason Apple support is so frustrating is that you have Level 5 members helping people but not revealing sources or how they came up with the solution as if it were magic.
You also have Level 5s like OGLETHORPE who don't have an answer but waste space and intimidate newbies by leaving sarcastic answers and unfounded projections in places that would best be left empty.

  • Dead Pixel Macbook Pro Retina Display

About 2 months ago I purchased a MBP Retina 15 inch and was amazed by it. However, this evening, whilst watching a film I noticed a tiny cluster of dead pixels on the screen.  Considering I spent close to 2k on this laptop this is not on.  My question is, am I covered under warranty, if so should I take it to the apple store and if so do I need to take any supporting documentation? Cheers guys.

should this be covered under warranty?
    thanks

  • 3 week old Macbook Pro 2011 now has dot in middle of screen?

I bought my Macbook pro 2011 Hi-res 15" Glossy - Configured to Order  3 weeks ago from the Apple Online Store. After installing and playing a game this week, I notice that a grey dot appeared in the middle of the screen, especially noticeable when browsing on safari, with a white background.
Is this a dead pixel or stuck pixel? what should I do? What can Apple do?

Do you have access to an Apple Store? If so, take your Mac in for evaluation and ask. We are just fellow users, so we can't speak for Apple.
Pixel problems are a judgement call--Apple will determine what should be done on a case by case basis. If Apple determines that the display is unsatisfactory because of this flaw, you might possibly get a replacement display, especially since your problem is in the center.
    Good luck!

  • MacBook Pro 2011-11 is hot !

If I put an external monitor (actually, it’s a full HD external monitor), the AMD Radeon HD 6750 takes the job and even if there is no application that runs (excepted the Finder, of course, or AppleScript Editor only [used to quit the Finder]), after two or three minutes, I start to get my MacBook Pro 2011-11 hot (top-left).
I even put wood between the table (desk) and the MacBook pro feet, then added stoppers of plastic bottle: the hot start to be hotter.
Then, the Finder start to responding slow, slowly, very slow…
This can also happens on winter (the temperature of the room act on the hot, but only if it is 25 / 30 ° celcius.
The temperature tops around 80° celcius, but the overall slow of the computer make its use… nearly impossible. MICE under VirtualBox takes … nearly minutes to reassemble a two pages screen shot (2 images of 1440 pixels wide).
I recall that when I had my previous - smaller - monitor, I do not had that trouble. Its resolution was 1440 x 900 (same as the built-in monitor). In Fact, the Intel HD Graphics Card was the default one at these times. Once I replaced that monitor with a 22" (1920 x 1080) monitor, the AMD Radeon video card is running and the heath comes.
BTW: I run Lion, Mt Lion and Mavericks and the trouble exist with all these OSes.
    Ideas ?

The last version from July 14th (of course): 4.3.14
As it was during the last years (far before the trouble comes).
    Nota:
    a. the trouble does not appears when I had my old external monitor who was 1440 x 900 (same as the internal monitor resolution),
    b. the trouble exists (appears) when I connect the external monitor (both 1600 x 900 and 1920 x 1080). It does not seems top be related to anything else.
On Mavericks, when you click in the icon located in the right of the menu bar (notifications ?), and the gfxCardStatus application is running, you get a notification that said (something like):
    'AMD Radeom 8750' is active
    or
'Intel HD Graphics 3000' is active
It is not possible to set the GPU to Intel HD Graphics 3000 when the external monitor is plugged.
I installed that application weeks ago / far after the hot start.
That is why I say the fault comes from the AMD Radeom 8750 GPU !
    But, I may be wrong…

  • MacBook Pro 2011 - iSight HD camera not HD in Photo Booth

    Dear reader,
I have the new MacBook Pro (2011 model), the 15" 2,2ghz with an OCZ Vertex 3 SSD and 8GB of ram.
When I want to make photos in Photo Booth it says it's using the "Facetime HD Camera (Built-in)" but it does not make HD pictures. The picture size is restricted to 640 x 480 pixels and I want them to be HD so I can make pictures of documents and store them on my Mac.
I cannot find the solution anywhere. Do you know what to do?
    Thanks in Advance!
    Greetings,
    Julius van der Kwast

I think this is a false advertisement as was the case with iPad back facing camera. Steve job called it HD camera but it is not HD at *all*. They did not mention the resolution, where 720p, 1080p?
It is just a better camera they are calling HD. Cheap advertisement.

  • Macbook pro 2011 maximum plug in time

I just got a new macbook pro 2011 and within a within a week I already have 9 charge cycles. The way I've been using it everyday, I'll charge it to 100% and then take it off, let it go down to 30-50%, and plug it back in till 100%. Using it like this everyday for a week has given me 9 charge cycles and I realize its bad because you need 1-2 a week.
-So is it better for me to leave it plugged in for 3-5 days straight and then take it off the power.. let it go down to 50%.. and then back to 100?
-What is the maximum amount of time that I can leave it plugged in continuously if I want 1-2 charge cycles per week - I feel apple's suggestion of not leaving it plugged in "all the time" is unclear on what "all the time" really is.

I realize that article says not to run on AC power all the time. But what exactly is all the time?
All the time is ALL the time. If you plug your computer into AC power and leave it plugged in for six months, you'll permanently damage the battery. Leave it plugged in for a year and the battery may be dead and impossible to charge. A notebook computer is not a desktop computer — its battery needs to be used at least a little on a regular basis.
If you never need to use the battery at all, Apple says you should calibrate it (see link in the article you've already read) a minimum of every month to keep the battery in usable condition.
If you never need the battery, why should you care whether or not it's in usable condition? Three reasons: 1) if the AC power goes out while you're working, the battery will instantly take over and prevent any of your unsaved work from being lost; 2) if the battery is dead, your processors will run at lower speeds; and 3) a good battery will enhance the resale value of the machine if and when the time comes to sell it.

  • Can i connect my cintiq 12wx to my Macbook pro 2011 through the thunderbolt using the mini display port to vga adaptor?

I just bought my cintiq 12wx and was wonderding if i can connect it to my macbook pro 2011 through the thurderbolt using a mini displayport to vga adaptor? Please help!

Yes, it should work with a mini-displayport to VGA adapter.  Since a 12wx also can take DVI you could use a mini-displayport to DVI adapter instead.  Why go analog when you can keep it in digital!
I guess the usb is for the pen.

    As the topic says,
What cable do I need to buy to connect my Macbook Pro (2011) to a VGA screen? I tried the "Mini DisplayPort to VGA", but apparently it doesnt fit the 2011 Pro version...
    Help me out please.

    Yes ... minidisplay
But what I do not like in that picture (my personal view, others may think differently), is that there is much plastic around the connectors where the cable must fit.  You may ot may not be able to get the cable to *fully seat* with the adapter.
Other adapters (http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0334087, yes I know this is a DVI) hve no plastic barriers to connections.

  • Hello. I have a macbook pro 2011 that originally came with os lion (on the computer not a disk). What I did was I downloaded Os Mountain lion. There was nothing wrong with it but I just feel the battery life is too short. So what I did was I tried to do s

    Hello
I have a macbook pro 2011 13" that came with OS Lion (integrated not on a disk). I recently bought OS Mountain Lion of the app store and it is working fine. However I was a bit dissapointed in the battery so I decided to try and downgrade and completely failed, I froze the computer and when I restarted it it did not work. I went into recovery system and erased my disk and all that and went to re-download my OS. I was expecting to get the option to re-download Lion but instead I could only re-download Mountain Lion.
My question is since my computer originally came with Lion can I reset my computer so I get OS Lion back instead of OS Mountain Lion?
Thanks for any help. Any answer will be appreciated even if it is saying it is not possible.

    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
        1.    Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
        2.    After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
        3.    Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
        4.    Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
Kappy, a pretty wonderful and very knowledgeable man, has tip for that which I have copied and pasted above

  • Macbook Pro 2011 charging behaving weird.  Charges and stops repeatedly and takes very long.  Help?

So a few weeks ago my MacBook Pro 2011 started having charging problems.  I would use it normally.  Then plug it in to charge anywhere between 5-20 percent like I've been doing for the past year that I've had it (since August 2011).  Anyway, what happens now is that it charges but extremely slowly - at least 4 hours to fully charge as opposed to the 1 1/2 to 2 hours that it used to take.  Also, it seems to be draining a lot quicker than it used to while only browsing the internet.  Furthermore, while charging, the battery meter goes from the percent its charged to to "not charging" back and forth.  What's going on?  Is there a problem with my battery, my computer, or the magsafe charger?  [please refer to the pictures below to get a better understanding of my problem - these pictures were taken over a 2 hour time period - a time period that usually is enough to charge my computer] - if you'll notice, in the first two pictures, the percent barely went up by 10 in a half hour period:

  • How can I setup my thunderbold display to work as my primary display? I would like to have my macbook pro 2011 as my second display. thanks

I have and Macbook pro 2011 february. I have installed Lion with the lastest update. I would like to use my thunderbold display as my primary display. The same way when I close my MB Pro 2011, but I wish to use my Macbook pro display as my secondary display.

If your Mac has got Mini DisplayPort, purchase a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter and a HDMI cable. You won't have to change any setting, and image will show on your TV after connecting it to your MacBook Pro. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4241?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

  • Macbook Pro 2011 running very slowly after upgrading to Mavericks

I am in deep trouble with my wife so any help would be gratefully accepted.
Shortly after Mavericks became available I upgraded my wife's Macbook Pro 2011 to use the new OS version. Ever since then, the Macbook has been running noticeably slowly. In particular, Mail is almost unusuable taking minutes to open and showing long delays while moving around messages, folders, etc. Excel and Word are also much slower, Safari is slow, in fact just about everything is grinding.
Any ideas on what can I can do to improve things and apease my unhappy wife would be much appreciated.
I have attached the Etrecheck output FYI
    Thanks

  • How to reformat a Macbook pro 2011 hard drive?

    Hello,
How do you reformat a MacBook Pro (OS X 10.7.3) 2011s Hard drive? I already backed up all the files I wanted to save. But since I have the new Macbook pro 2011 (only a few months since I got it) it didn't come with an installation disc, but instead already came with all the applications. I'm wondering how to reformat the hard drive so it wipes out everything and I can start fresh and what would happen to all the applications?

Well Lion has a Lion Recovery Partition on the drive you can access by holding command r and booting, there you can erase the Lion OS X partition completely (all files and programs) and reinstall Lion or simply reinstall Lion if there is a issue with it (no programs or files are touched in this second procedure)
Lion is downloaded from apple's servers, you need AppleID and a fast reliable internet connection with no bandwidth caps limiting you.
    https://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
If you want to replace the drive, there is software called Carbon Copy Cloner than can clone both the Lion OS X Partition and the Lion Recovery Partition to a external drive intact (excpet what's in the Trash, no Filevualt, no bootcamp, use free Winclone for that)
Hold the option key and you can boot from the external drive and format and clone everything to the new internal drive. TimeMachine of 10.7.2 and later can be booted from it's Lion Recovery Parttion as well just to restore only, cloning is better process because it gives full access to everything like before on the internal drive.
    http://www.bombich.com/index.html
Some newer Mac's have Lion Internet recovery built in where the firmware will install the Lion Recovery/OS back onto a completely blank/new hard drive.
