Dead pixel(s) after 1 month of purchase

I am a new MacBook Pro owner, and just got my laptop a little over a month ago. I have 2 dead pixels on the screen already. The first one, I noticed a few weeks ago and thought it was just a smudge and ignored it. But it hasn't gone away and I researched it a bit and discovered it was a dead pixel (It looks like a small line, thicker at the bottom and thinner at the top of the line). The 2nd one is at the very bottom of the screen and I just noticed it today. I have tried those pixel fixer applications, and they haven't done anything.
I bought my MBP at Best Buy and can't take it back since it's been past the 14 day policy if anything was wrong w/ the screen, to get it repaired or fixed. Plus, I didn't get AppleCare (I'll probably buy it when I graduate college this spring), so I only have the 1-year warranty. However, can if I take it to the Apple store what will they do? Will they fix the screen or just replace it? And since I don't have AppleCare, does anybody know how much it will cost (screen repair vs replacement)?
This is just a big pet peeve of mine since so much money was spent, especially buying it after spending over $1000 to fix my PC (which ended up dead anyways). And I would rather fix this sooner, rather than later.
I appreciate any kind of feedback.
Thank you.

Depending on which country you live in, BestBuy in the US will accept computer returns within the 30 days.  Canada is 14 days.  Hopefully, the change the 14 day policy in Canada to match the US.
You can still return it to Best Buy and it's up to the discretion of the manager to exchange it since it is a defective product.  What have you got to lose in trying?
Or, you can send it back to Apple or take it to the nearest Apple Store if it's close to your area.

The warranty says that Apple may restrict service of an iPhone to the country of sale, and any reliable salesperson will tell you that if you tell them that you plan to use the iPhone in another country. Such service restrictions are common with cellphones and are by no means limited to Apple's phones.
Sorry, but if your iPhone requires service, you will need to send it to someone you know in the US who can get it serviced and then send it back to you.

  • My iphone broke after 3 month of purchase will i get an exchange

hello my name is bilal i have on an iphone 5 i got it on contract about 3 months ago it brokes by falig from window from my sister now i wan a replacement from apple because every iphone come with 1 year apple care how will i get replacement i live in manchester in uk please help me .

Warranty covers manufacturing defects, not accidental damage.
Contact your local Apple store or look at Apple for UK to see what
the price for an out of warranty replacement would be. In the US,
    cost is $229.
If you made the purchase using a credit or debit card, check with
the issuing financial institution to see if they offer protection.
If you have purchased separate insurance for iPhone, contact
    the insurance provider.
Your homeowner's or renter's insurance may provide some coverage,
but the deductible will probably be more than the out of warranty cost.

  • Can i switch Photoshop on Windows to Mac after few months without purchasing another license?

I'm considering purchasing a 1yr prepayment Adobe Photoshop license to use on my windows laptop.
I intend on changing my laptop in a few months to an Apple MacBook Pro.
Would I be able to use the same PrePayment and use this on my new MacBook without needing to purchase another Photoshop license?

Yes. That's the beauty of Creative Cloud that it is Platform independent. You can install it on any of the 2 platforms i.e. Windows and Mac, without paying anything extra.
Use PS CC on your windows machine until you want and then once you are ready with your Mac, simply install it on your Mac machine and you are good to go.
Let me know in case you have any additional questions.

  • Lenovo Yoga13 Dead Pixel

I have bought Lenovo Yoga 13 on Jan 2013.
After 2 months, came out 1st dead pixel.
1 month later another 1 show up. Currently my screen happen to have 3 death pixels. (3 position)
However i believe total will be 4 dead pixels on my screen as one of the dead pixel position should consider 2 dead pixels joint together become a big pixel. (can obviously see it is bigger than normal dead pixel)
I have contact Lenovo Tech support and get to know that Lenovo policy is at least meet 5 dead pixels for IdeaPad. Is that truth?
I am quite dissapointed with Lenovo as i m just use it few months moreover i m not a heavy user.  The pain thing is my death pixels happened on the midlle of the screen and show it as a vertical order, it is too obvious and annoying.
So anyone face the same problem as me & any Lenovo staff can help over here?
    I am from Singapore.

Ive found a dead pixel on the first yoga I purchased out of the box, Lenovo processed a return, the second one had screen washout in the bottom right so I returned that one, and the third one has a dead pixel out of the box as well.
Im not sure whats happening with the quality of the screens, Im less than impressed as well. I guess I am a bit lucky in that I discovered all these issues right after purchase, but its taken about 2 months to get to this point, so its quite a while. I don't think they will do anything about my most recent laptop, when talking to the rep about the last return, she said that I would not qualify for anything else if there is anything wrong with my new one. Im not sure I would purchase a ideapad again, if I ever decide to give Lenovo another shot I might stick to their business lines (that's what I use at work, never heard of issues with those) as it seems thats where the quality is.

  • New 2.4GHz Imac Dead Pixels

I know dead pixels are always an issue. I purchased a PSP and went through the dead pixel exchange over 12 times. I was lucky to get an iphone with no dead pixels, but now I decided to get my first mac. Since the new iMAC came out I decided to get one. I was going to get the mac mini, but when I saw the imac and the power you get for the price I was hooked.
Anyway I believe I have a defective screen and I think it is just going to get worse. At first the screen did not have any dead pixels, but after about 3 hours of use the first day I noticed a subpixel suddenly was now black. It looks like it is the green subpixel since that is the only color it cannot display. So I said to myself okay I can deal with one dead subpixel since it is on the dock and just placed photo booth over it and I couldn't see it and would be happy with it. Ignorance is bliss. But now the second day I was using the imac and then suddenly 4 more black pixels came near the top left area of the imac. So that is 5 dead pixels now it two days.
Has anybody had good experiences with returning their mac with dead pixels on their screen? I hoping 5 or more dead pixels is enough, but wanted to get a feel from the forums if I will be just wasting my time or if there is good chance they will replace my imac. Of course I am worried once I return it I will be going through this 12 times like I did with the PSP. Any thoughts?

Okay I guess the last 4 were not dead, but stuck because I was showing my fiance the dead pixels and I showed her the one on the dock, which is still black, and then I showed her the 4 at the top left. So we decided to scroll through the desktop wallpaper (I had the default blue wallpaper on when the dead pixels appeared) and suddenly the 4 at the top left area disappeared once I went back to the default blue wallpaper. Not sure if they are going to show up again, but as of right now they are not there anymore. I hope they are gone for good. Maybe I wil get lucky and eventually the one at the bottom on the dock will light up again. I will keep my fingers crossed. So I guess a suggestion to those who may experience what I just did, try chaning your wallpaper and see if that makes the pixels come back and if that doesn't work then you can try those popular pixel fixers.
I will update if more dead or stuck pixels appear or the others come back. I am now not sure if my screen is considered defective or just a late bloomer. I don't want to be a complainer I just want higher standards when it comes to QOS.

  • 24' Cinema Display with Dead Pixel

I just exchanged an LED Cinema Display under AppleCare for the blinking/cord problem. Got the new one set up and see that it has a dead pixel. Is there a fix for these, especially being brand new, or do I have to exchange this one too?
Running tests it is very visible on a black background, then blue, and slightly on a green background. Red and white backgrounds make it so that the pixel is not a visible problem.

When I chose my LED Display, I refused two monitors because of dead pixels (green pixels on full filled white background). All of them I tried to order in on-line shops.
When I found out that Apple use LG panels for the LED Display and I understood that I have to go to the off-line shop and choose the display by myselfl. I met 2 years ago with usual LG TFT displays on my work - they all had dead pixels. (IMHO, LG is not good).
I came to one shop and there were 2 Apple LED displays - one at the exposition and one in the storehouse. Of course I wanted new one from storehouse and let manager know beforehand about not going to buy if dead pixels. He brought up the display from storehouse, unpacked, plugged and I personally start to check. I changed the background to whole white and pointed into two green pixels. "***", - I said to the manager - couldn't believe that the display costs crazy money (in Ukraine - $1400-1500) and everyone with dead pixels!
I also have 20" NEC display with perfect IPS panel that I bought 3 years ago for $800. And I should leave the buying of the Apple LED Display and back to my favourite and proven NEC it could be the right decision as you'll see below .
But the manager offer me to check the exhibition example - he assured me that exhibition one is also absolutely new and stood only 5 days in the shop. We plug it, set the background to white and ... "O, miracle! No dead pixels! After three checked displays! Can't belive!" - and this one was really total perfect.
So I forgot about to buy new NEC instead of Apple display. Brought Apple LED Display to home, connected to my brand new MBP 13, compared to my old NEC - everythnig was perfect, colors and overall picture are better than old NEC.
I was happy ... BUT JUST FOR ONE WEEK! It started to blink/flash/blackout - this is the known problem as I found out later: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1902288&tstart=0
I'm very disappointed because I realize that if I give it for guarantee service and they offer me to change it - I'm sure that I'll got the display with dead pixels and I don't want it! So I hope that it the software/firmware trouble and it'll be fixed in the next MacOS update. If no - it'll be the disaster because I'll not be able to return the display and give my money back from the one hand (under Ukrainian laws the money back period of goods is 14 days), and I don't want to give the guarantee replacement with dead pixels!
Sorry for large text I had to to unburden myself!

  • Repairing display due to dead pixels

ive had my 2nd 30in display and now seeing 4 -5 dead pixels ... due to the type of work i do the positioning of these are VERY annoying. I spoke to AC and they are willing to repair my display meaning that the casing will remain the same but i guess the guts are to be changed. What are the experiences of anyone who has had this done? Wondering if i should just push for a totally new display however i guess the down side would be getting a display that is worse. would like to hear from anyone who has had this done.

    Hello
I had 6 dead pixels on my macbook pro screen. I was quite annoyed about it.
After a huge research I did find solution. At least you can try it is for free
It is a small Jawa applet which flickers and can unstuck pixels.
I had 6 dead pixels. After using this flickering applet for 10 minutes 4 of the pixels disappeared They were in the center of the screen.
The last two are placed on the top of the screen. On the top dock where the blue apple is. Fortunately there is no way I know about how to hide this dock. Therefor stuck pixels remain. (if you know how to get this flickering applet over entire screen please let me know, the videos on the website did not work for me)
Anyway check this website and good luck, Hope it helps.

  • Dead pixel or stuck pixel??

    Hi,
Have just received my Core 2 MacBook, I'll cut straight to the problem.
There's one problem pixel on the display. A little way below and left of the centre of the screen. The pixel is black when on a white, red or blue screen, however the pixel is capable of displaying green, i.e. when I pass a green panel over it, it appears as normal.
Does this indicate that the pixel is dead, or merely stuck? Or to ask my question in another way, will the Pixel Widget (or similar flashy thing ) have any effect on it?
    Thanks in advance.

  • A Dead Pixel After Just 1 Month

I bought my 24" Aluminum iMac a few days after the release of Leopard from my local AAFES (military exchange service). The unit I purchases was a return, but they gave me a 20% discount. There was no way I could possibly turn that offer down. When I got the unit home, all was in order except for a couple white dots at the very bottom right of the display. I was immediately turned off, but my folks talked me into keeping it and having it fixed later. I opted out of the AAFES warranty instead to buy an Apple Care Plan for the iMac at a later time.
Anywho, just the other day, I noticed a dead pixel on the display. It doesn't affect much, but I'm starting to grow tired of these little problems.
After reading a few discussions online, I'm worried Apple will not fix the display issue. Does anyone have some advice?

I have the same problem. I bought a 20in iMac (brand new) and noticed a dead pixel about a month later. I'll try the iTunes visualizer trick. The pixel is right near the center of the screen, so it's hard to avoid noticing it. This is especially sad to see in Apple's displays, which are otherwise remarkable.

  • 2 dead pixels near bottom after 2 months. replacable?

In addition to the two new dead pixels near the bottom edge of my screen, i also have these two LCD issues with my MB:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=942825&tstart=0
    and
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=940945&tstart=0
I've already taken it in to try and get a replacement for the lines, but they said it was normal. I havent taken it in for the spots on the black background yet since I had doubts that they'll warrant the replacement since it's only noticeable on a black screen with little light in the room.
i now have two dead pixels near the bottom and am starting to think i should take it in to try and get a replacement. I do have the 3 year applecare plan as well.
What do you think? Anyone had their MB's replaced for bad pixels after a few months of use? Thanks.
    Ryan

in the dozens of MB's i've seen in stores, i did notice that only a few had the lines issue that i have. the lines just seem like it's on the coating of the screen.
i think i will take it over to the store and see what they say. i'm not going to get a refund because, i love this macbook, even if it does have flaws, though i wouldnt mind a free replacement :-D thanks.

  • Satellite L670 - Hard Disk Dead after 8 months only

    Hi,
this morning I had to retunr my laptop due to bad hard disk problem. After 8 months, it's dead already.
The positive points are: I am still under warranty and second the toshiba software hilighted me on time, allowing me to back up my data before the crash. Tks Toshiba for this tool, very usefull.
The question is, how can a hard disk die that quick after just fews months ?
Bad luck or bad use ? I am wondering.
I wish to have a feedback from those who owns same model, L670 (windows 7), to understand if this problem is commun or if I was unluckily concerned.
Also, if there are possible solutions to avoid HD stress in the daily use ? Like for example, reduce writing on it (back up of blu-ray using AnyDvD HD ON hd, then cut&paste to external HD), or to not connect too often external hard disk to avoid electricity surcharge if any ?
In future, will I have to perform chkdsk more often ? Defrag ? If yes, at which frequency ?
This is my 3rd laptop dying, Sony VAIO = mothercard dead after 1.2 years, Fujitsu Amilo xi = explosed after 3 years, and now Toshiba HD after 8 months.
From 900EUR up to 1600EUR, I do not see a significative resistance of one of those models, Sony was the badest ever in terms of video card longevity and compatibility (games unplayable after 2 months, no driver update), keyboard "painting" was a mess with deterioration after fews months compared to Fujitsu and Toshiba (no pb). Toshiba L670 more recent, was the best in terms of game compatibility.
What to do ? Stop buying laptop or use it only fews hours a day with a PC on top ?
For time beeing I can't afford to have a PC + a laptop as I am unemployed, surviving with 10EUR/day,
time to find a job again.
Despite this situation, I managed to buy new Zelman notebook cooler for my Toshiba at around 40/50EUR, but, it didn't help apparently.
Tks for feedback about L670 duration life, and particulary HD problem + best use to protect it.
    Guillaume

    You're not the only one.
I bought an L670 in September last year. It was strictly for home use as replacement for a desktop PC, so it was never moved.
Just after a few weeks things started to go wrong: boot fails, programs crashing, Windows 7 crashing...
It's almost 7 months now since purchase and I'm writing this message on the very same notebook with 'Hard Disk Sentinel' running in the background, reporting more bad sectors every day. It tells me that hard disk health is now down to only 9% and that it has an estimated 14 days to live.
Since the notebook is technically still running fine, I don't think I can have the HDD replaced under warranty or am I wrong? Does the HDD have to cease working alltogether before I can have it replaced under warranty?

  • 3 Dead Pixels after Blue Screen crash, should I make another Genius Bar appointment?

Ok, so yesterday I made a GB appointment, after a friend told me to, when I showed him that I had a dead pixel on my phone's screen. So when I got to apple, I showed them the dead pixel and they told me they were going to replace the screen on the phone. It turned out that the machine they use to do so, was down, so they ended up giving me a replacement phone. So I checked it out at the store and it looked fine. So now today, while running some errands, my new replacement iPhone had crashed and turned blue, then rebooted on me & a few moments after when I got back on the phone and was imessaging, I noticed 3 dead pixels instantly (one on right under the names of the contact on the message, on the J key on the board and to the middle-right where your send messages are displayed)
Now I'm thinking that, because my originally iPhone had crashed and turned blue also and I noticed the one dead pixel on it that same day, that the blue screen crashing could possibly be causing this??
Should I go back to the apple store and tell them what happened?

(Update) the pixels actually all seem to be red, whenever I go on a yellow screen and I just noticed a fourth one.    I think I should take my phone in
