Dead pixels on Macbook Pro Retina Display and keyboard scratches.
Since the purchase of my Macbook Pro with Retina Displey 15" early February 2013 it has gained 5 dead pixels on the screen. If I take it to the Apple Store are they going to tell me it's my own fault and not help?
I also found a scratch on the <H> key on the keyboard, which has removed a little bit of the black coating, allowing the backlight to shine through. Does anyone know of a solution to this, or if apple are able to help? I have already tried writing over it in black sharpie pen, but it doesn't help.
Apple has some system they go by to determine how many dead pixels are 'acceptable' on a display - it's not your fault.
You may be able to get a replacement key from -> https://www.replacementlaptopkeys.com/. Since Apple will probably say it was caused by user damage, you'll have to pony up the $5 for the key.

How can I use my MacBook Pro as display and keyboard to configure the server?If you are setting up a server you can use Server Admin tools to set up a new server remotely. You would need to install the Server Admin tools on your MacBook Pro and then do the remote install procedure.
You need to collect the serial number and the Mac Address of the Mac Mini Server to enter in as the information in the Remote Install during the installation process you will be prompted to chose Remote Management and SSH for options that way you will be able to connect to the Server Remotely at anytime when configuring or afterwards. -
Photoshop CS5.1 Pixelated on Macbook Pro Retina Display
Hello!
I am a photography student who just bought a new macbook pro retina display. I use Photoshop a lot for my course so need help with this as quick as possible.
Everything on Photoshop seems to be pixelated which is not ideal right now. I also have an iMac which runs the same version of Photoshop and that is absolutely fine, never had a problem. My friend suggested downloading a trial version of the CC as this automatically sorted hers out but did not mine. Any suggestions at all will be SO helpful as I've researched into this problem and are yet to find an answer!Very simple. The hiDPI Macintoshes and MacOS support for same were released after CS6 was released. Some of the CS6 applications got upgrades to support these hiDPI displays; others including InDesign did not get such upgrades until the CC 2013 version.
Sorry, but there is not anything you can do about this with CS5-vintage software.

MacBook Pro Retina Display and USB SuperDrive
Just wanted to let everyone know I had to update Mac OSX to be able to use the superdrive on the new macbook pro retina display. Before that it would show me what was on the disk but I couldn't access it. Even after I updated it I had to browse through finder to find the drive to be able to run what was on the disk, as it didn't pop up automatically. Just wanted to give people a heads up so if anyone else has this issue.
The superdrive not showing on the desktop may just be a setting in Finder. If it is listed in the Finder window then it is a setting in Finder to show, or not to show, DVD drives on the desktop.

Macbook Pro Retina Display and Flash Player major issues

Apple has recently released Macbook Pro's with Retina displays.
I have tested my Flash application on the new laptop, and this is what I observe:
1. My Flex SDK Flash application looks blurry and strange when I try to check it out from any Macbook Pro with Retina display, while looking sharp and OK from all other machines.
On this screenshot you can sort of see the issue:

(Expand the image to the actual size, and compare the Flex SDK components with browser labels. Browser labels look crisp, Flex SDK components look a little bit blurry.)
2. It is no longer possible to click on anything in Flash Player Dialogs, such as:
* Flash Player Settings
* Webcam or microphone allow/deny dialog
* All other dialogs (peer-to-peer access, etc)
This issue makes it impossible to use video chat applications on Macbook Pro Retina's because users can't click allow/deny when requested for audio/video access.

Andrey@nvhdab - If you haven't already, can you please add a bug on your issue over at bugbase.adobe.com If it's the same as 3224151 then it sounds like it's going to be fixed soon. I'm trying to find out exactly when, but it might be in the 11.7 release now (4/2/2013 - Flash Player 11.7.700.170 Beta)
@scottclayton - I'm going to ask the team to revisit the click issue. I don't have a retina display so I can't confirm the issue. Thank you though for putting up the workaround. -
My macbook has suddenly started flickering. I hadn't updated any software. I did go and update to OS X but that didn't help. Is anyone else having the same problem?

I have a new iMac and MacBook Pro with Retina Display running 10.8.2
When I use Disk Utility on a San Disk 2GB SD card I can only format as FAT16. How can I format the card as FAT32?Just posted a problem I'm having connecting my Jaybird Freedom and iPhone5 (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4716045). The Jaybirds connected fine with an iPhone4s and another (forgotten) device so I don't think the problem lies with the Jaybird. I'd be interested if you hear differently.

Dropped MacBook Pro retina display and screen won't work
I accidental just dropped my MacBook Pro with retina display on its left side from about 2 feet. There doesn't appear to be any external damage except for the screen which is just white with some black on the left side. I can change the brightness and everything else appears to work. Any ideas on how to fix it or how much it would cost to repair. Thanks

Call your local Apple Store to get a quote for a repair.
And check your home insurance to see if it's covered (it might be if you have accidental damage cover and you dropped it at home).
If you're not ready or able to afford a repair or replacement, you might be able to keep using your MBP if you connect it to an external display.
I don't know how important portability is for you, but if you would normally only use your MBP in one or two specific places (eg home and work), you could set up one external display in each location.

Using Macbook Pro as display and keyboard for a PC
I have a macbook pro, but I want to build a high end gaming pc eventually, but not only would i have to build the CPU, but I would also have to acquire a monitor and keyboard and all that jazz. It really cranks up a hefty price tag.
Then the thought occurred to me, that I already have a monitor and keyboard on my macbook. Wouldn't it be great if I could use my macbook in those capacities for the PC, basically reversing the flow of information from the miniDV port and the USB ports.

Migrated from MBP with moutain lion to new macbook pro retina display and now I have lion os
After migrating from a time machine backup and logging in (had problems with that too and had to restart user password) the os version is 10.7.4 when it should be 10.8.2
Went to the app store and I have to pay again to get the upgrade.. Do i have to pay again???

OK this is just a guess but I believe that when you set up your rMBP from your old MBP you used TM restore not Migration Assistant. What happened is that you installed your old system OS10.7.4 and all files.
Using Migration Assistant (MA) would not have overwritten your OS.

Recover your entire system
If you use Time Machine to back up your computer, you can recover your system’s contents if your system or startup disk is damaged.
Important: Only use your Time Machine backup to restore your system to the computer that is the source of the backup. If you want to use your backup to transfer your information to a new computer, use Migration Assistant.
Transfer your info from a computer or disk
If you’re restoring your system because of a problem with your startup disk, repair or replace the disk before following these instructions.
Make sure your Time Machine backup disk is connected and turned on. If your backup disk is on a network, make sure your computer is on the same network.
Choose Apple menu > Restart. Once your Mac restarts (and the gray screen appears), hold down the Command (⌘) and R keys.
Select “Restore from a Time Machine Backup,” and then click Continue.
Depending on your type of backup disk, do one of the following:
If you use an external disk, select it and click Continue.
If you use a Time Capsule, choose your AirPort network from the AirPort menu on the right side of the menu bar, and then select your Time Capsule and click “Connect to Remote Disk.”
If you use a network disk, select it and click “Connect to Remote Disk.”
If necessary, enter the name and password you use to connect to your backup disk, and then click Connect.
Select the date and time of the backup you want to restore, and then follow the onscreen instructions.
After you restore your system from a Time Machine backup, Time Machine may perform a full backup at the next scheduled backup time. This is normal. Time Machine resumes incremental backups after the full backup is completed.
I suggest you make an appoint at the Genius Bar at a local Apple Store and they will help you restore your computer. Make sure you take in your old MBP and your Time Machine back up disk as well.
Do not use instructions above for a TM restore now, because it will only reinstall Lion 10.7.4 not ML 10.8.X.
You need to reinstall ML first and then I think all of your problems will go away.
So did I guess right? Did you launch TM and restore or did you launch Migration Assistant to move files?
Hope this helps, if you cannot get to the Apple Store, I can try to walk you through reinstalling ML, but first we need to download a copy of ML. -
Macbook Pro Retina Display & Adobe programs are pixelated
Hi. I just purchased a new Macbook Pro Retina Display and have installed CS 5.5 Design Standards to it. When I open the programs (any program: inDesign, Photoshop, etc), the image is pixelated and in low resolution. When I export what I'm working on it looks crisp and great but the software itself is pixelated. Are there any upgrades / updates for CS 5.5 that will fix this problem? Or will there be in the future? I cannot afford to get CS 6 quite yet and am wondering if I should return my Mac and downgrade to get rid of the retina display?? Thanks.

Macbook Pro Retina Display - Sound and video doesn't work at the same time.
I just bought a macbook pro retina display and tried to watch a movie by connecting my macbook pro via hdmi to my home theater receiver (Onkyo TX-SR309) and into my HDTV (Sony Bravia 42"). My problem is, i don't get sound from the speakers connected to the receiver.
When i disconnect the HDTV from the receiver (only the receiver is connected to the macbook pro), then sounds will comes out from the speaker.
Can somebody help me to fix this problem?With the HDMI connected and the Onkyo powered on, open system preferences, go to the sound panel, and select the HDMI choice.
