Dead pixels on my screen but warranty expired.

I have a Macbook Pro w/ Retina Display. I noticed a bright white spot on my computer months ago... probably just a few months after I bought my laptop. It wasn't a big deal at the time cause it was rather small and I simply didn't have the time to drive an hour and a half to the nearest Apple Store. Well now there's two and I feel as though they've gotten bigger. It's more of a cluster.
My 1 year limited warranty expired and I don't have AppleCare.
So what can I do? Will Apple fix it?
If I have to pay, how much will it cost me?

Only an Apple genius bar technician can give you an accurate quote. It will not be inexpensive.

Normally you will see any stuck (colored) or dead (black) pixels right from the get go. Many times stuck pixels will unstick over time or by running pixel fixers.

In the unlikely event that you have any dead pixels, contact Apple, your local Apple Store or Apple Service Provider there really good about making things right.
All computer displays will exhibit some sort of unevenness and or back light leakage, but most folks don't notice or worry about it. Unevenness can be seen using a solid light gray or light blue back ground and backlight leakage can be checked using a black screen.
+Just slap up your favorite photo's or wallpapers on the desktop and move on.+

Dead pixel in my screen? What will apple do?

It seems that I have a dead pixel in my screen. I have a keen eye for them as I have had to replace 2 LCD tv's because of this. Even though it is'nt a huge deal I would like it fixed. Any idea on how apple will handle this? Just replace the phone I'm assuming. Anyone have this problem also? What was the outcome?

So in other words what your saying is, there is a standard for how much your screen has to "not work" for them to care? And I read the pixel anomalies article by apple and it seems like a pretty BS way of getting out of replacing a phone. I talked to my buddy who is a TV salesman and he said it is rare to have this happen with TV's and when it does they replace them. Seems like apple should do the same. Hopefully I can get the issue resolved because this is
not the only problem. When I am in the recent/contacts section my screen doesnt work or jumps around (doesnt select where I put my finger, goes random).

I have an iPad 3rd gen it was bought in the US but I am in india and I have come to notice a dead pixel on the screen . Does my warranty cover that ? Can I claim it in india ?

The iPad (3rd generation) have 3.1 million pixels.
You want to claim warranty because of 1 dead pixel; doubt Apple will entertain your request.

Line of "dead pixels" on the screen that come and go.

I just did a clean erase and install, i'm using leopard with all the current updates. i noticed the system was leaving lines on the screen before the fresh install so i figured it was a software problem. well, after doing a clean install they are back. its like the video isn't processing correctly or something because i can put another window on top of the "dead pixels" and it covers them up, like the in this picture. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3269/2442796153fb66961090o.png
the finder window is covering an inch or so over the dead pixels. and to clarify the line of dead pixels or what ever they are appear to associate with a certain window or app and show up at different parts of the screen. for instance, if i see the lines in firefox, i can minimize the window and the line is gone.
this is on a 24inch white imac with the 2.16 c2d.
any ideas what would make this happen?

There are quite a few posts about this sort of thing.
Many peopel find some minutes to hours after the lines of pixels the Mac freezes - mouse still moves but you can't do anything.
It's not clear if it's software or hardware.
My suspicion is that it's a software problem but I may be wrong. Either graphics memory or RAM used for buffering is faulty, or something is inadvertently writing garbage to graphics memory.
Most people attribute the issue to Leopard, but I'm still running Tiger.
Lots of posts about it being an nVidia card driver issue, but I'm running ATI.
Maybe coincidence but my 20" late 2006 iMac started playing up after a security update earlier this year.
Some people have had graphics cards replaced and it's cured it, pointing at hardware.
Another thing that seems to help is upping default fan speed using say smcFanControl.
Two things that have made this less frequent for me are:
- turning off Genie effect in Sytem Prefeerences for minimising/maximising windows (I often got freezes when changing windows)
- running smcFanControl
There is some debate as to whether or not for some reason the fans are not speeding up properly (software/EFI or SMC problem?) in response to higher temps and hence components are becoming unstable.
Try some searches on 'glitches' or 'freezing' or browse through the last couple of weeks threads.
If your machine is under warranty I'd be phoning Apple. Mine alas is not.

1 dead pixel on the screen

I seem to have a dead or stuck pixel on the screen. How do I know if its dead, or if its stuck? Do dead pixels look different from stuck pixels?
Im not to bothered about it as I can hardly see it and I struggle to see it, but it is slightly annoying that you know its there. It looks turquoise colour, but when I put some black over it on the screen, you cant see it.
Also, I have downloaded the stuck pixel fixer and run it for about 20 minutes, and it doesnt seemed to have done anything.
Does anyone suggest what to do? Also, does apple have a pixel policy? Like I said im not to bothered by it, but when you know its there it can get a bit annoying. I have to really look for it to see it though.

This one is just at the top where the program menu bar is, so its not to obvious. Infact, its probably the best place it could have happend really, if it were to happen at all.

Dead Pixels? Broken Screen? HELP!

Hi everyone,
So about 3 weeks ago I bought a brand new 8G iPod touch.
I use it almost every day, and I've never had a problem with it.
Recently, I started getting battery issues which weren't drastic but were obvious enough to bug me, but I let it slide because the amount of time I used the ipod wasn't affected by it.
Just this morning, I was using it, and after I was done I placed it on my desk. Without any use between the time I had put it down, and when I came back for it (About 3 hours), A patch of dead pixels or SOMETHING about the size of a fingernail formed. I got pretty annoyed at this, but I didn't move it anywhere else, because I plan to take it to the store tomorrow and ask about what can be done.
Though, another hour or so after that happened I checked it again, and the patch had gotten bigger.
This kept happening until the patch became a line which strewed across the whole screen.
After that, the screen began to flicker and pulse like a broken TV.
What the heck is going on!?

Hey what happened, did they give you a new one, cause exactly the same thing has happend to mine, I even had it in a protective case thing and grey lines appeared on the screen, But the screen didn't flicker or pluse.
I've only had it 5days!!

1 dead pixel on Iphone6 screen

Hi all, I picked up my iphone 6 from New Zealand Apple web store this Monday and noticed one dead pixel located near top of the screen. While it isn't instantly obvious, it shows up on white backgrounds and you'll probably have to hunt a little to pick it up. Would I be able to exchange my phone for a new one or is this problem too insignificant?

Dead pixels or scratched screen?

I just bought a video ipod about a week ago. After 3 days of listening to music I watched the first video and noticed that there was a patch of pixels on the screen that looked discolored, almost like what it would look like if there was water on the screen. It's really distracting when I'm trying to watch a video. I thought they could be dead pixels, but when I tried to exchange it at Best Buy, they wouldn't take it because they said the discoloration was due to the small scraches on the screen. I knew that the screen had gotten a little scratched, but I didn't think it would distort the picture that much!
Am I wrong? I would hate to think that my $300 ipod could be affected by tiny scratches that much. Is it possible to have the plastic front replaced?

It wouldn't. A few surface scratches - which are actually on the case, not on the screen itself - don't cause that amount (or even that sort) of distortion; you'd have to smash the front of it with your fist or sit on it to cause that kind of damage.
Best Buy is notorious for trying to prevent customers from making legitimate returns. How did you pay for the iPod, cash or credit card? If you used cash, you're probably at the mercy of Best Buy, but if you used a card, just call the number on the back of the card, tell them you were sold a defective product, the seller won't let you return it, and you want to file a complaint. The customer service rep will explain the details to you; you'll have to print out a form, fill it out and snail mail it in to the credit card company, but it's worth it. (Do this soon; by law you only have 60 days to file such a complaint.) The credit card company will investigate, and if they determine Best Buy sold you a defective product, you don't have to pay for it. That sort of leverage, once you take advantage of it, usually leads to the retailing caving in to the consumer rather quickly.
Even if you did pay cash, you should go back to BB anyway, ask to speak to the top manager, and demand a replacement or refund. Be polite, but be firm, and keep asking for higher and higher supervisors until you get what you want.
By the way, in the future, admit to nothing whenever you need to return any product anywhere. I'm not saying that if you spill a beer down the back of your brand new TV that you should try to take it back and lie about the obvious cause of the malfunction. But if you put a minor scratch on something that has nothing to do with the problem you discover soon afterwards (as is likely the case with your new iPod), then take it back and if questioned, say "it was like that right out of the box" and stick to it. As long as we live in a world where employees at places like Best Buy are under orders to do everything possible to stop legitimate returns, you're under no moral obligation to hand them a ready-made excuse to refuse to take the item back.

3 Dead Pixels after Blue Screen crash, should I make another Genius Bar appointment?

Ok, so yesterday I made a GB appointment, after a friend told me to, when I showed him that I had a dead pixel on my phone's screen. So when I got to apple, I showed them the dead pixel and they told me they were going to replace the screen on the phone. It turned out that the machine they use to do so, was down, so they ended up giving me a replacement phone. So I checked it out at the store and it looked fine. So now today, while running some errands, my new replacement iPhone had crashed and turned blue, then rebooted on me & a few moments after when I got back on the phone and was imessaging, I noticed 3 dead pixels instantly (one on right under the names of the contact on the message, on the J key on the board and to the middle-right where your send messages are displayed)
Now I'm thinking that, because my originally iPhone had crashed and turned blue also and I noticed the one dead pixel on it that same day, that the blue screen crashing could possibly be causing this??
Should I go back to the apple store and tell them what happened?

(Update) the pixels actually all seem to be red, whenever I go on a yellow screen and I just noticed a fourth one. I think I should take my phone in

Also, there is no guarantee that your new iPad will be free of faulty pixels.
Any display, no matter from which manufacturer, can have or develop faulty pixels.

Dead-pixel or scratched screen?

I just got my new MBP 13" 2012 and this is what I see right in the middle of the LCD. It has a rainbow color effect when viewing at different angles on a white background. It does not show on a black background giving reason that it might not be a dead-pixel (off state) after all. Is this then a scratch/crack on the LCD screen?

My warranty expired, but I need a repair done on my nomad zen nx. I've been looking around, but u can only get support within warranty period, so I don't know where to get my information from. It was a gift and I don't think I can track down the receipt. anybody got some advice? Any people from holland?

Could some one help me with dead pixel on my screen?

I bought my Thinkpad X61 only a few days back. I opened it and found that there is one dead pixel in the middle of the monitor. Is there any possibilty that Lenovo would fix this? I know that I have to pay 15% of the purchage amount in order to return this peice. I would be really happy to return it without any costs. I talked to the service people. This is the worst service ever I had. No one is replying. One girl told me that the dead pixel goes away in a few days and It would be okey. It looks like if you order a laptop online, they send you laptop with defective pixels.

Dead spots on touch screen, but only when using text or safari

For some reason my phone has dead spots, which CHANGE although one thing is consistent. I cannot press "send" on a message unless I am replying to a text straight away. I cannot initiate and then send.
What is stranger, is that if i pull up the SAME keyboard on the facebook app, it works perfectly.
So far i have tried recalibrating, resetting and restoring the phone to no effect. If has not been in water (unless splashed unbeknowns to me)
Has anyone had a similar issue and how did they fix it? My iphone is 3rd gen so no warranty but was in perfect working order until yesterday.

I can certainly understand your frustration. I have not heard of any other cellphone or PDA manufacturer that gives out free loaners while their equipment is being replaced. Although I have certainly heard about this practice in BMW and Mercedes dealerships, the cellphone/PDA industry is a little different.
I am surprised they had never heard of the problem, which probably means they have never visited this forum. I have read many posts regarding this problem, and if a reset/restore doesnt do the trick, it has always required repair or replacement.
Its the same with a Treo or a Motorola Q or a Blackberry. It is not reasonable to expect the manufacturer (Palm, Motorola, etc) to provide free loaners. The cost for this "free" service would inevitably have to be passed on to all buyers. I have a cheapy GSM phone in a drawer I use to stick my SIM card in when I don't want to use my iPhone, or in the event I have to send it in for repair. Having that alternative is my responsibility, not Apple's.
Now that I think of it, Palm doesnt even rent loaners. I would have been stuck with NOTHING had my Treo required service. At least Apple gives me a better choice.
That's another spin on it.
