Dead pixels on the 24"?

is it me or is anyone else detecting a trend with dead pixels on the imac 24" models? there seem to be a few other posts here about it. i unfortunately had to ship mine back to apple last week because it had around 5 dead pixels (black) clustered together on the right middle area of the lcd. i ordered a custom config (upgraded to geforce 7600) through the apple store online. i had the wind taken out of my sails when i first booted up and realized that they were dead.

Just in case there is confusion over this matter, a dead pixel and a stuck pixel are two different states. A dead pixel is not repairable. It indicates that the transistor at that pixel position is inoperative. A stuck pixel indicates the pixel is fixed at a particular "on" state and can sometimes be forced to another state through the various techniques others have already mentioned here and in other threads. A dead pixel appears to be a pinpoint of white light (I have one on my new 24") and can only be repaired with a display replacement. Since there is always the possibility of damaging an LCD display when forcefully rubbing, I wanted to make sure folks understood the difference. If the pixel is dead, no need for attempting repair.

  • I have one dead pixel in the middle of the screen.

I have 3 issues with my iPad2 at the moment
    1. Bad back-light bleeding around edges. It is kind of big bleed on the right edge and small ones on the left.
    2. One dead pixel in the middle of the screen.
    3. Lots Horizontal lines occured everytime when press sleep button on and off quickly.
What can I do, this is the replaced one that comes in brown box. On of the genius guy say that horizonta lines is normal when LCD screen boots up and as long as it does not effect while you are playing then it should be fine. But my friend dont have this issue so i think it is kind of faulty of the device.
Can I go to genius bar and ask for another replacement?

I went to apple store today and this time one of the staff said they will not replace for dead pixels or screen bleeding. And for the horizontal line issue.. The guy at genius bar said it's normal when LCD screen wakes up from sleep or when it boots up. It's kinda weird I think.

  • So I just got my iPhone 5s and there appears to be a dead pixel on the top of the screen. Is there anything that could be done?

I was curious If anything could be done about a dead pixel on the top of my iPhone 5s screen? And I bought the phone directly from ATT if that makes a difference.

Take the iPhone back to ATT and show them the dead pixel on the display and get the iPhone replaced.

  • My new iPad has a dead pixel in the middle of the screen. Can I get it replaced?

I've heard that there is a minimum number of dead pixels before apple will replace it. Very frustrating because otherwise the screen is perfect, and it's one of those things you can't stop looking at. What can I do? I don't live near an apple store so I fear that shipping it away is the only option.
    Any help is appreciated!

Given that you can return/exchange it for any reason within the 14-day window after you bought it, you shouldn't have any problems.
Do you live near an Apple retail store? That may be your best bet. It certainly worked for me: I ordered mine online and when I noticed an air bubble embedded in the glass, I brought it to my local Apple Store and 15 minutes later walked out with a replacement. No fuss whatsoever.

  • Does Apple's warranty cover dead pixels on the iPhone 4S?

I received my iPhone 4S in the mail today and a few hours after I had been using it I noticed a tiny dot on the screen. At first I ignored it, thinking it would go away, but it hasn't. I searched what the problem was and found out it is a dead pixel. Like I said it's very small but it really bothers me every time I watch a video or take a picture. If I take it to my local apple store, will the warranty cover this?

The warranty should cover it if it is a defect in manufacture.  In any case, you are covered by the 30 day trial return period.

  • Dead pixel - worth the trouble to exchange?

Will Apple give me a new iPhone since mine has a dead pixel, or is it not worth it to try?
iMac Core Duo, eMac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   And an 8GB iPhone!

Can someone explain this to me? I have what appeared to me to be about 20 dead pixels on my screen. I took it to genius bar and they said I only had 3 and this was normal and that everything else I saw was natural "bleeding" that would "go away in time." The dead ones and the "bleeding" ones look exactly the same to me. Now I'm reading here that people have just one dead pixel and apple is honoring their exchange? Why not me? I have what looks like 20!

  • One dead pixel in the UK? Chance of replacement

    Hey,
I've had my 12" PB for 4 weeks and I love it. Annoyingly I've noticed a dead red subpixel about half-way between the middle and the top left. I have to be honest, I only see it once in a while so not a major issue.
What are my chances of getting a replacement? I bought the pb from amazon.co.uk.
    Cheers,
    Henry

Almost none I'm afraid, because that falls well within the acceptable limits. If you had 5 or 6, you'd have a chance.
Some tips that are suggested to work:
    - Massaging around the pixel, and gently over it.
    - 'Tracking' from the pixel to the edges of the screen (all four) and massaging there.
Maybe others will chime in with possible solutions:

  • I have an iPad 3rd gen it was bought in the US but I am in india and I have come to notice a dead pixel on the screen . Does my warranty cover that ? Can I claim it in india ?

It was bought in may of 2012 can I claim my warranty ?

The iPad (3rd generation) have 3.1 million pixels.
You want to claim warranty because of 1 dead pixel; doubt Apple will entertain your request.

  • 1 dead pixel on the screen

I seem to have a dead or stuck pixel on the screen. How do I know if its dead, or if its stuck? Do dead pixels look different from stuck pixels?
Im not to bothered about it as I can hardly see it and I struggle to see it, but it is slightly annoying that you know its there. It looks turquoise colour, but when I put some black over it on the screen, you cant see it.
Also, I have downloaded the stuck pixel fixer and run it for about 20 minutes, and it doesnt seemed to have done anything.
Does anyone suggest what to do? Also, does apple have a pixel policy? Like I said im not to bothered by it, but when you know its there it can get a bit annoying. I have to really look for it to see it though.

Yes thats what I was thinking. Like I said im not to bothered about it and I can hardly see it, but might give them a call and see what they say. Its not acually to bad. I have dead pixels on other things before and they have been much worse. It must be because of the resolution of the screen or something.
I have to say, the one thing I hate the most and is the most annoying thing out of all technology for me is a dead pixel, esspecially when its right in the middle of the screen. This one is just at the top where the program menu bar is, so its not to obvious. Infact, its probably the best place it could have happend really, if it were to happen at all.

  • How can I fix Dead pixels on The iPod 4g

    Hi
I have a Problem. My iPod have on The screen many Dead pixels. How can I fix this because I have My iPod for 2 and a half years so I have no gaurante. Pls help.

You cannot "fix" dead pixels. All you can do is replace the screen. See:
If your iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad is Broken
Apple does not fix iDevices. Instead, they exchange yours for a refurbished or new replacement depending upon the age of your device and refurbished inventories. On rare occasions when there are no longer refurbished units for your older model, they may replace it with the next newer model.
You may take your device to an Apple retailer for help or you may call Customer Service and arrange to send your device to Apple:
Apple Store Customer Service at 1-800-676-2775 or visit online Help for more information.
To contact product and tech support: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers.

There are third-party firms that do repairs on iDevices, and there are places where you can order parts to DIY if you feel up to the task. Start with Google to search for these.

  • About the dead pixel and the warrant without the sales receipt

My warrant will still valid until June 29, 2013. I found a dead pixel several weeks ago, but I did not deal with. I recently found out I may can use the Apple care to repair it. However, I cannot find my sales receipt. So what should I do now? Can I still repair the screen free. Thank you very much.

Your sales receipt is needed for Apple's 1-year limited warranty and AppleCare Protection Plan validation, so be sure to keep it in a safe place. Apple's 1-year limited warranty is the same whether or not you register.

  • Dead pixel on the new iPad.

My iPad 3rd gen has a dead pixel.
I want to know can i fixe this problem or not?

Unfortunately i don't have access to any apple store in the world! because of location and politic problems...
I'll try some 8 hrs videos for solving this.

  • The dead pixel appeared the third time!

I am a fan of APPLE product. I have IPHONE,IPAD,IPAD MINI. Because I trust the quality of apple.
But things changed since I bought the MBP.
I bought the MBP on Aug. 2013 and had changed monitor twice.
Today, a dead pixel appear again, I don't know how can I deal with this? Have to change it again?

Three repairs in such a short time frame isn't good. It's not normal. Ask for them to give you a new one.

  • Line of "dead pixels" on the screen that come and go.

I just did a clean erase and install, i'm using leopard with all the current updates. i noticed the system was leaving lines on the screen before the fresh install so i figured it was a software problem. well, after doing a clean install they are back. its like the video isn't processing correctly or something because i can put another window on top of the "dead pixels" and it covers them up, like the in this picture. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3269/2442796153fb66961090o.png
the finder window is covering an inch or so over the dead pixels. and to clarify the line of dead pixels or what ever they are appear to associate with a certain window or app and show up at different parts of the screen. for instance, if i see the lines in firefox, i can minimize the window and the line is gone.
this is on a 24inch white imac with the 2.16 c2d.
any ideas what would make this happen?

There are quite a few posts about this sort of thing.
Many peopel find some minutes to hours after the lines of pixels the Mac freezes - mouse still moves but you can't do anything.
It's not clear if it's software or hardware.
My suspicion is that it's a software problem but I may be wrong. Either graphics memory or RAM used for buffering is faulty, or something is inadvertently writing garbage to graphics memory.
Most people attribute the issue to Leopard, but I'm still running Tiger.
Lots of posts about it being an nVidia card driver issue, but I'm running ATI.
Maybe coincidence but my 20" late 2006 iMac started playing up after a security update earlier this year.
Some people have had graphics cards replaced and it's cured it, pointing at hardware.
Another thing that seems to help is upping default fan speed using say smcFanControl.
Two things that have made this less frequent for me are:
    - turning off Genie effect in Sytem Prefeerences for minimising/maximising windows (I often got freezes when changing windows)
    - running smcFanControl
There is some debate as to whether or not for some reason the fans are not speeding up properly (software/EFI or SMC problem?) in response to higher temps and hence components are becoming unstable.
Try some searches on 'glitches' or 'freezing' or browse through the last couple of weeks threads.
If your machine is under warranty I'd be phoning Apple. Mine alas is not.

  • NO! its a DEAD PIXEL ON THE 1ST DAY OF PURCHASE!!!...

    Hey all,
i have bought my black 80GB iPod Classic and fiddled aroun with it for about 2 hrs . i was watching a movie when a suddenly a glowing dead (Red) pixel appered on the top of my screen (Middle-left side)
anyone having same problem or can someone tell me how to fix this problem? (The pixel disappears when i leave it offf for a few mins but it re-appears.

there are also alternative ways to heal it, like a movie which flashes different colours to make the pixel work again, but no guarantee that it will last long. just return it as it is a new device.
