Dead Pixels - Replacement. How long?

Hi,
I've just received my shipping label for sending my beautiful MacBook Pro in for complete replacement (not repair) due to a growing number of dead pixels on my display.
When I first noticed it, there were about 6-8 contiguous dead pixels in the lower right corner of my screen and now there are probably 60-70 in the same spot.
Anyway, back on topic, how long should I expect to wait until I get my replacement MacBook once I ship this one off? What are your experiences with sending any Apple in for replacement?
Thanks,
Aaron
P.S. I've already called Apple and confirmed that I am not just put back into the queue will all the new purchases.
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   Custom PC running Gentoo

I have a Titanium G4 that had the screen go almost dead after I bought it. Apple replaced the screen and I had it back, good as new, within a week. I believe that screen is the same, or very similar to, the one on the new MacBook's. THAT is the main reason I ordered a new MacBook Pro last Saturday from the Apple Store. Apple's customer service is great, they make high quality hardware and software, and they stand behind them. To se sure, you pay a bit more for it and (I am an engineer and software developer) the development tools are sometimes a bit "hoaky", but it's worth it.

As I wrote Apple will diagnose an Apple product even if it is out of warranty for free. That should be your first step to find out if the problem is the battery or something else.
Once you have Apple telling you a 7 month old battery is defective (if that turns out to be the case)  then it becomes a game of horse trading. You'll need to speak to the tech and when he tells you there is nothing he can do you will need to speak to the tech manager and when she says most likely there is nothing they can do you go to the store manager, etc.  It is unlikely (though possible) that they will give in easily you need to be firm, polite and let on that you're willing to accept a partial reimbursement.
So again the first step is to find out what is wrong.
    good luck

  • Bright(dead pixels) replacement policy macbook pro retina

Yes i have had it tested and it is a confirmed hardware related pixel problem. I have 4 bright green pixels on my macbook pro retina 15 inch which is very annoying when you are working in (the dead pixels are in the middle of the screen!)processing applications like the kinect/photoshop. And this meets apples policy critera and according to it i should receive a product replacemnet not a simple screen replacement( the product is the macbook pro not the screen) and the apple stores in india say that they do not follow this policy, no where on the internet or anywhere have i heard this. Apple is renowned for its worldwide support, but it from one place and have similar support everywhere. I bought the laptop(the highest end with 16 gb ram for my projects, 2.7) whoch costed me about 4000 US dollars now when you pay that much you cannot live with people opening your laptop and replacing some parts in it(remember the unibody part?). And i am also experienceing burn in issues for a long time( due to the inferior screen that i was provided with- yes the LG display). I am really annoyed and will take the laptop to honk kong where i bought it from and will not settle without a product replacemnet per se apples policy. Again india seriously??

  • Help need to know dead pixel replacement

I'm getting a new screen put on next week for a dead pixel on the lumia 800 but I found scractches yes on gorilla glass and was wondering does the glass get replaced Sewell or is it just the screen because I saw a video on YouTube of a screen replacement on lumia800 and it was all on one the screen glass and touch bottoms help does the glass come with it ????

    Hi JoeHeat,
Thanks for posting and welcome to the forums.
The spare-part for the Lumia 800 screen comes as one unit consisting of the screen, digitizer and the glass. So as long as the repair is being done by an official Nokia Care Point or repair centre replacing the screen also will mean new glass.
    Hope this helps,

  • IPhone 4 AppleCare replacement, how long?

I called AppleCare because my iPhone 4 is having issues with the camera. Today I called Fedex to arrange a pickup and they will be coming tomorrow (Friday) and I was told that Apple will receive the iPhone on Monday. Now my question is if they do receive it on Monday approximately when will I get it back? Also for those users who have sent their iPhone in for repair how long did it take? Thanks in advanced

Did you do an advanced replacement? When I last used AppleCare on my iPhone, I used the Advanced replacement option and I got off the phone with them about 4:30pm CDT. My replacement iPhone arrived by FedEx by 9:30am CDT the very next day.

  • IPhone 4 water damage - Replacement (how long will it take?)

If i just completely broke my iphone 4 (won't even turn on) due to water damage I understand that I can get a $199 refurbished replacement.
I was just wondering if anyone knew how long it would take to get the replacement phone. For example, if I went into the store gave them my old phone, would I be leaving with the replacement phone that day or would they have to send it to me in the mail?
    Thanks in advance.

If you take the iPhone to an Apple Store, then unless they happen to be out of stock on replacement units, you'll walk out with one.
    Regards.

  • If I take my iPhone 4 into the apple store to have my camera lens replaced, how long will it take to fix?

Will they have to keep it for more than a day or will I be able to take it home with me?

They  won't replace the lens. If they determine it is a manufacturing defect, you'll get a replacement phone.

  • HD Replaced-How long to restore?

I just got my iMac back and am restoring using Migration Assistant. I've got a Firewire 800 connection and the progress bar shows 8 hours to restore about 500GB on the new 1TB drive. Is this normal? The iMac is a 2.8 i7 with 16GB RAM.

OK, then the drive should be correctly prepped. I only asked because new drives usually come formatted for PCs. Although you can copy Mac files to them, the transfers will be slower than when you use a normal Mac format. But in your case you're just copying a whole lot of stuff. And, all those small system files actually slow the whole process down. Also, I think the hard drives are 5400 RPM. Don't know how fast your FW drive is.
If they installed Mountain Lion normally, then you will have a Recovery HD. You can find out in Disk Utility by enabling it to show invisible partitions by first activating the debug menu of DU:
To enable Disk Utility's debug option copy and paste this command in Terminal:
    defaults write com.apple.DiskUtility DUDebugMenuEnabled 1
    Press RETURN.

  • How can I fix Dead pixels on The iPod 4g

    Hi
I have a Problem. My iPod have on The screen many Dead pixels. How can I fix this because I have My iPod for 2 and a half years so I have no gaurante. Pls help.

You cannot "fix" dead pixels. All you can do is replace the screen. See:
If your iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad is Broken
Apple does not fix iDevices. Instead, they exchange yours for a refurbished or new replacement depending upon the age of your device and refurbished inventories. On rare occasions when there are no longer refurbished units for your older model, they may replace it with the next newer model.
You may take your device to an Apple retailer for help or you may call Customer Service and arrange to send your device to Apple:
Apple Store Customer Service at 1-800-676-2775 or visit online Help for more information.
To contact product and tech support: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers.

There are third-party firms that do repairs on iDevices, and there are places where you can order parts to DIY if you feel up to the task. Start with Google to search for these.

  • Dead pixel on my new iPod Touch 5th Generation. Can I get a replacement?

Today I bought an iPod Touch 16GB Silver. I activated it and after maybe half an hour, I noticed a single dead pixel in the upper left part of the display. I know that with iPhones there's a policy that 1 dead pixel, replacement. iPads have a 3 dead pixels - replacement policy. So I am not sure what is the case with iPods. Here are photos for the proof:

You would need to ask an Apple employee to get a definitive answer.

  • How To Find Dead Pixels

I just purchased the Apple 23" Display and have been reading this forum about dead pixels. How can I check my new display for dead pixels.
I have a Dell Computer with Window XP home OS. Any help would be most appreciated. So far everything is working just fine with this display and I am quite pleased. But I want to make sure that everything is working properly.

You don't need to "find" dead pixels. Unless your vision is seriously impaired, you will see them just fine. If you don't see any you probably don't have any so don't worry about it.

  • Portege R600 - black or dead pixels?

Hi all, having a serious problem with what seems to be suddenly occuring dead pixels on my R600. See here:
    http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/9523/toshibar600deadpixels.jpg
This is actually the second time this has happened. I've had the R600 since November 2008, and in March 2009 I got the screen replaced because several lines of black pixels starting appearing near the top of the screen.
Now it's August 2009 and the same thing is happening, but at the bottom part of the screen. About two weeks ago, two thin lines appeared about one-inch up from the bottom of the screen, and an almost thick-band of black pixels appeared at the bottom of the screen, and also two big splotches of black pixels at the bottom left of the screen that appeared last week.
The kicker is that the the authorized service centre says the screen is "physically damaged" now because of the two splotches, but I didn't press anywhere on the screen! Because it's considered physically damaged, it would be outside of warranty-coverage and would cost me $350-$700Cdn to replace the screen! I've been able to escalate this to a supervisor at Toshiba Canada and I'm supposed to hear back in 2 to 3 business days.
Needless to say, I'm not impressed; seems almost every four months, I'm experiencing this issue, and now Toshiba may not even repair this for me, even though this is no fault of my own.
(Note: I use this laptop in an office/retail environment; I protect and treat this $3000Cdn unit like a baby and never put any pressure on the screen. My R600 is either docked or in a Zeroshock case, and when transporting it, I put it in a padded backpack.)
Anyone else have this problem? Any ideas on how I can resolve this with Toshiba?
    thx,
    nomad416
p.s. By the way, is this forum mainly for European Toshiba users? I'm in Canada and can't seem to find any forum on the www.toshiba.ca website.

Ok, if it's true that the glass inside is cracked, then it shouldn't be a problem for Toshiba to replace it, because they replaced my first screen back in March without hassle, although that first screen didn't have the splotches on the bottom.
I forgot to mention earlier that this R600 is always with me; it never leaves my sight. And again, I don't use it for heavy-duty rough work. It goes from my docked home office desk to a desk at each of my stores. That's it. Believe me, if I needed a strong notebook I would've gotten a Panasonic Toughbook or something.
As for the Zeroshock case, it's pretty good, but it's probably overkill for my needs since I already have a decent padded backpack. (Zeroshock info: http://shinza.com/zeroshock-laptop-notebook-sleeve-case)
So all in all, I know I'm careful with this laptop all the time. It's the same how I use my older Dell laptops, no change in routine. And I certainly never saw this issue with those laptops. So that doesn't explain where these lines of dead pixels and how these splotches suddenly appear on the R600.
Oh, forgot to also mention: there were a few black lines of pixels in the top half of the screen a few weeks ago as well, but then they disappeared about a week ago! Can't explain it...

If it only appears when you turn on the camera then it's not a stuck pixel.  If it only sometimes appears when you turn on the camera then it's not a stuck pixel.  If it's sometimes blue and sometimes green then it's not a stuck pixel.  A stuck pixel would always be there, always the same colour, whatever you were doing on your computer.
Whereabouts is this dot appearing.  The camera has a green indicator light above the screen which illuminates when the camera is on.  My apologies if I'm stating the obvious, but I'm just considering the possibility that you're maybe confusing this with a stuck pixel!

  • Is there any remedy for dead pixels?

I bought my 13 inch mbp about 11 months ago and everythings been great, but a few days ago I dropped my charger on it while it was closed and that made a dent but I'm not too worried about that since there's ways to cover it up. Only now the screen has 2 dead pixels and it's like they spread. And there's the dent too so I assume that voided the warranty. So does anyone know a remedy for dead pixels, or how much apple would charge to repair the screen?

    macfan5 wrote:

It's not covered under warranty because you dropped the charger on it.  Just because a mac has a dent doesn't mean the warranty is void permanently, only problems that are caused as a direct result of  what created the dent.
So does anyone know a remedy for dead pixels, or how much apple would charge to repair the screen?
The remedy is a new screen, no easy fix for dead pixels.  You need to make an appointment with the genius bar to get an estimate, or you could hook an external display to your mac, but then that would make it a desktop.
