Dead pixle question

I noticed I have a dead pixel. I wan wondering if applecare would do anything about it if I called of is that not covered in the warrenty?

First time I experienced a dead pixel was from my Benq laptop, it was just one and it didn't concern me much, or enough to get it fixed.
Anyway, actually I've had my MacBook pro for 5 days. It has been sitting on my desk quietly and I haven't even walked out the door with it once. I'm just surprised by the lack of attention and quality assurance apple does. In fact, I haven't had a single Mac product that didn't have some sort of problem with. From my sound sticks to my ipod. In fact, my ipod is in the shop, again. My 20" monitor still won't go to sleep mode properly, my DVD drive in my G5 had to be replaced the other month... don't get me started with the OS9 days.
Anyway, I'm disappointed too, but not surprised after all the experiences I've had with Apple.

  • Iphone screen now has a boarder of "dead" pixles help

my ipone 3gs is working fine but the visable screen has shrunk so there is a 1mm frame of dead pixles surrounding the display .
does any one else have this problem or better still know how to fix it?

If no change after the standard troubleshooting steps which in order are power your iPhone off and on, an iPhone reset, restoring your iPhone with iTunes from your iPhone's backup, and restoring your iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup, more than likely your iPhone has a hardware failure. The iPhone includes a one year warranty. You can call AppleCare, or make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one nearby, or the carrier for your iPhone may handle iPhone warranty claims.

  • IMac G5 non-isight Hard Drive dead - 2 questions

    1. I see that 1TB drives are very affordable but is there one that is going to be better than others in my 5 year old iMac G5? Hitachi, Seagate, WD, Samsung, etc..
    2. Is there only one HD bay? I want to leave the original in just in case it can be accessed later (Apple Store tech could not read it and pronounced it dead). I would like to install the new one as an addition so is there more than one hard drive bay?
    Thanks!

There is only one bay in the iMacs, and any of the brands you mentioned would be good, look in macsales.com or newegg.com for drives. I'm afraid you will have to take the old drive out, but you can always put it into an enclosure if you think it's useable. You can get enclosures at the places I mentioned.

  • Magsafe-Dead Battery Question

I'm troubleshooting to see if my magsafe is working.
I went thru all items in Article: TS1713
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1713?viewlocale=en_US
    My question is.....
If a battery is passed on, is no more, has ceased to be, is expired and gone to meet it's maker. Is a stiff, bereft of life, has kicked the bucket, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisibile!!
IF IT IS AN EX-BATTERY.......... will a properly working magsafe adapter supply the necessary power to operate the macbook?
Should the green or amber light be on?
    Thanks
    Marco

Two things happen without the battery. First, the CPU clock speed is reduced by half meaning your computer runs at half power. Second, if you lose AC power then there is no power backup. This will result in immediate and abnormal shutdown of the computer that can lead to corrupted directories and/or data loss.
The AC adaptor cannot supply sufficient power on its own which is the reason the clock speed is reduced when a battery is not present. During high power needs the battery can supply the additional power that the adaptor cannot provide on its own.

  • I lost my iPhone 4s and it is dead. Question about iCloud and turning off service.

I lost my iPhone 4s and it is dead. On iCloud I utilized the lost mode, so when someone finds my phone and charges it, my house phone number will pop up. But if I turn the service off on that phone, is that message from iCloud still going to pop up? Or do I have to keep the service on that phone on in order for icloud to still send the message?

The only way to locate/disable/erase any lost/stolen iPhone is through Find My Phone or a similar app. However, this requires that Find My Phone be setup/activated, on your phone, before it was lost/stolen. You would then login at iCloud.com & try to locate it. This requires the phone be turned on & have an Internet connection. There is no other way to locate a lost/stolen iPhone. Apple can't/won't help you, nor will your carrier. Report the loss to the Police, your carrier & Insurance company. Change all of your passwords.
If your carrier offers Blacklisting & they Blacklist the phone, it will be unusable as a phone.
If locked with a passcode, all a thief or whoever finds it has to do is force the phone into recovery mode & restore it. While this deletes all data on the phone, it also removes the passcode so the phone can then be used as a phone or touch.

  • Dead battery question

Hi, I believe someone left my laptop on, and it will not start up even after plugging it in for several hours.  Can being left on deplete the battery so it will not charge up?  Is there a feature that will prevent this from happening?   The computer is several years old and up until this problem, there hasn't been any battery issues.  How can I determine if the battery is dead and needs replacment?  thanks for any help in advance.....Mike

Battery goes dead evetually they don't last forever and since the ocmputer is several years old consider yourself lucky it lasted that long. Take out the battery and leave power plugged in and see if it will turn on. That will be a test to see if your adapter is still working to power on the laptop or has gone bad and can only power but not charge the battery.

  • Here is my utter deadly story/question!

Okay, most of the media I've purchased on itunes is pretty old now. This starts with a great old computer, but alas here comes a Mr.Virus and that is the end of that computer. So, I put together a new one (Not all that great, but hey usable!) Not only does this one die too, but both these computers were authorized and the best part is yet to come! Now then, I don't remember the specific degree in which this happened, but my first ipod was stolen a couple month's after Christmas at school. So, as too which I now own not a one of these files, along with hundreds of old pod casts I loved. Not only did I lose 2 computer's and got an ipod stolen, I'm guessing too that I'll never hear these songs I bought again, without re buying them? I mean I have all the receipts on my account, apple should know what I need, is it possible in any way shape or form to get what so ever back? This has been a long time now and I've finally got a new VAIO and ipod, so now is the time to search for this answer. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Apple's policy is clear: iTS purchases can be downloaded only once. It is your responsibility to make back-ups . (For most people, this will involve either CD's/DVD's or an external drive .)
That being said, at their discretion they have made one-time exceptions to this policy. You can ask for an exception by submitting the form on this page:
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/browser/
Good Luck! But whatever the response from Apple, remember:
Your music is valuable - please back it up!
    P.S.
If you want to get a bit of a "bigger picture" on back-ups, you might want to make yourself a cup of tea and have a look at this article on the PC World web site and this Microsoft support page .

  • PLEASE HELP .... Tosiba hard drive problem or dead ???

Hi ... I never had a hard drive die before.  So I am not sure how this would occur.  Not sure if I purchase a new Toshiba hard drive would solved the problems I am coming across.
    I am using a Toshiba MX4019GAX 40GB h/d for my notebook for about 5 1/2 years.
    Error Message#1:
     Intel(R) Boot Agent FE v4.1.09
       (c) 1997-2002, Intel Corporation
       Intel Base-Code, PXE-2.1 (build083)
       (c) 1997-2002, Intel Corporation
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
       PXE-M0F: Existing Intel Boot Agent
       Operating System Not Found
This is partially solved.  But comes back after a couple of crashes and sometime when I turn on the notebook.
After selecting F10 for BIOS boot setup, hard drive is listed as first selection.  The "Primary Master" shows "none" every now and then.  Sometimes it will pick up and list the Toshiba hard drive.  I did see the Toshiba drive listed with garbage (!!!! after Toshiba MX4019GAX) a couple of times.  Already opened the HDD drive bay and checked connections/tighten cable.  Looks okay to me.
Problem #2:  Notebook crashes while I'm on the internet.
Error:  States a serious error has occurred and the system will shutdown
to prevent serious damage (the dreaded blue screen).
After restarting the notebook.  I get ..... Cannot find file .... c:/windows/system32/config ....
So I reinstalled the prepackaged windows xp os through setup along with drivers and application programs.  It worked for a while and then crashes again.  I reinstalled again, then I get the error ....
    Problem#3:
Error:  Faulty driver discovered by plug and play.
    Blue Screen tech info: Setup: 0x000000CA (0x00000001, 0x812c5B10, 0x812c5E30, 0,x000000000)
Now I cannot even get to windows.  I also disable plug and play through the BIOS
setup.  I still cannot get to windows.
Problem#4  While going through Windows setup ........
Error:  Windows XP require a hard drive volume with at least 492 megabytes of free space ....... Setup was unable to locate such a drive with the required amount of free space.
I just get a blinking cursor on a black screen now.
IS THE PROBLEM THE HARD DRIVE?
I did not hear any rattling or loud noises like most users do.
Question #1:  How do users usually know a hard drive is dead?
Question #2:  What occurances tells a user that a hard drive needs to be replaced (what do the see happen on the screen)?
Question #3:  Are users coming across the same problems I am having (are these the signs)?
Question #4:  Checking the C:\ with DOS .... why don't the full 40GB show.  Only see a 100,000+ bytes listed.
Please advise.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Everything you are seeing is indicative of a failing hard drive.  Ensure that you have backups of any critical data immediately before it fails completely.  Then replace the drive.

  • Just brought a new iBook G4 12" yesterday, has 62 dead pixtles

im shocked to see how many dead pixtles my new iBook has. will apple give me a new one free of purchess?!?!
i just started it up and around the middle was 62 dead pixles
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   iPod G5 30GB white

    Yeah, You'll get a replacement.
I believe that apple have a policy that a monitor may have up to 3 dead pixels on it, and still be fine for purchase, but even if you only had three, if you made a fuss about how it interupts your workflow/viewing pressure then they replace it anyway.
But 63 dead pixels is pretty atrocious , Hopefully they'll replace that regardless of the 14 days, but hurry just in case.

  • [noob question] setting window background colour?

    Hi,
Am just getting to grips with basics of Xcode, Coacoa and IB, been looking at some easy examples and just set myself my first exercise; to build the C# Introductory Video example app
OK, basically all I want to do is open the colour picker from a button and set the window background colour. But still with nothing more than an empty window in IB I can't find any obvious means to define it's background colour (not even statically)?
Hope someone can help with this dead easy question... (my Coacoa programming book is still on it's way from Amazon
    Ceers,
    Rich
PS. just looking for a nudge in the right direction, please - not a step by step description how to write my sample app, as well meant as that might be. cheers

+Although I'm guessing from the underlying tone you're already pretty experienced and it's been a long time since you sat down yourself and first started to "look through the documentation"?!?+
Sorry didn't mean to let the tone bleed through that much.
But seriously I assumed there was an NSWindow function that did it, checked the documentation, found it, mocked it up in 5 minutes (alright 10 I'm still getting used to IB in Xcode 3), tested it to make sure it worked as expected and then answered your post. Not that you should have been able to do that as quickly but I could do it because I have slogged through the process for other objects I had used.
Really this is a pretty basic Cocoa kind of operation. I have object X supplied but Cocoa (eg NSWindow, NSTextBox, etc.) and I want to do operation Y. Operation Y is almost always already there for you just waiting to be used. Learning this process of finding these things in the documentation and using them is really crucial to being a proficient Cocoa developer.
In Xcode 2 Help > Documentation will give you the searchable API and just type in NSWindow. In Xcode 3 selecting an object - like NSWindow - will change the Help > Documentation menu to point to NSWindow directly.
Cocoa is a very "lived in" API and it has clearly been evolved by people who really used it so it has the buttons and levers right where you want them most of the time. I assumed that NSWindow had a function to change the color simply because it would make sense that it would. And when I checked it did, but my making that assumption and being able to find the function comes from doing the heavy lifting already on other objects.
I'm just hoping you take this as an example of how to do this and next time dig into the docs and find the function. There is no way to be good at it without doing it and getting good at it gives you access to Cocoa's rich API and will get you very far because you get all that programming other people have done for you for (almost) free.
    Good luck,
    =Tod

  • ONE DEAD PIXEL ACCEPTABLE?

i have one dead pixel in my right top corner you cant stee unless everything around there is lit up, but when it gets dark like in the sliding menu you can see it...is this acceptable and will it get worse as in more dead pixels later on?

It's always annoying, but I am not sure of Nokias policy on dead pixles. I had dead pixles on my computers before, but never on a cellphone. I had one on the Dell laptop I am using now. It was dead from the beginning, but after 2 months it dissapeard. Now the screen is perfect.
I have read a lot of posts on other forums about pixle massage and programs to get the pixle back, but as I have understood, it's a difference between a dead pixle and a stuck pixle.
If nobody can answer you on this, I would use the contact link and ask about it, or take it to a carepoint. But as i mentioned, I don't know what the policy is on that issue is.
Personal opinion - the screen is small and it's annoying. It should be covered by warranty and get replaced.

Take the handset back to the outlet you got it from.
They may try to advise you it needs sending to a Nokia Service Centre.
I would decline a repair due to it being so new.
Ask for a replacement and if you are refused then the next steps are up to you.

  • Recycle Dead Keyboard?

Now that I think my keyboard is dead the question is what do you do with one? Is it recyclable, just trash, or is there some place that reconditions them for charity or something?

Look into [http://www.freecycle.org], since somewhere, somebody will want it.
    Reuse comes before recycling.
If nobody wants it, then look into recycling it at a specialized computer recycling facility.

  • Quick question concerning "load movie"

    Hi,
I'm sure this is a dead simple question, but I'm not sure
about syntax. Basically I have several buttons which when pressed
load a new swf into a movie clip _root. I want each different
button to take the viewer to to a different frame in the loaded
movie. So button 2, would open the new swf at frame 1, button 2,
would open the new swf at frame 2, etc.
This is the script I'm using to load the new swf:
    on (release) {
    _root.bigphoto.loadMovie("big photos.swf");
What should I add to it?
    Many thanks.
