Dead usb port

I have not used the Playbook's micro usb port since I got the rapid charger, which was before the OS2 upgrade. Today I plugged it into the regular charger (that came with the Playbook) but cannot get any indication that the unit is charging. I tried several different wall outlets, and since it was working fine the last time I used it, there is no reason to think the charger is the problem. Is there a Playbook software switch that I need to reset? Has anyone else experienced a non-functional usb port following the OS2 upgrade? The usb port is not damaged or physically broken as far as I can tell. Any thoughts or suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks,

mine wont charge via a PC if on less than 20% battery
is yours at least 20% charged?

  • Dead usb port in airport extreme

I have been using the airport extreme for quite a while but it seems that my usb port is not working anymore since my external drive (connected via usb) was suddenly disconnected.
I don't see the drive recognized anymore in the airport extreme settings. I was trying two other drives and those were also not recognized. I'm sure that the drive are OK because I am able to connect those via usb on other laptops.
What could be wrong? When I plug in my Freecom Tough Drive the blue light of the drive is switched on for short while before it turns of without any connection to the airport. Resetting the airport didn't help as well. I have not changed the firmware or run any updates...It seems that I have to return the device or can I try some other things?
    Please advice.

It is entirely possible to have a dead port. What have you done to verify? If you plug into all the other ports and the unit is recognized through Airport Utility, but not the one suspected, that's a good indication. Also plug into each port one-by-one and look for the green light to show on the port connector. If it doesn't show on the suspect port, that's more support of indicating a dead port. You can also unplug the power to the unit, then plug it back in, watching for the port light on the suspect connector to flash green along with all the others. The lack of a green light is not a certain indicator, but almost so. Probably a warranty issue.

  • Dead usb port ?? MSI K8N Neo V2.0

I've got MSI K8N Neo V2.0. I discovered that one usb port is not working correctly. When I plug keyboard ( logitech cordless ), it wont work ( it wont even boot, becouse it said that keyboard is not connected ). When I plug mouse ( logitech MX510 ) then windows said that the device is malfunctioned, and it wont work too. I tried also to plug USB-Fdd, with the same result. Other usb ports works fine. I tried to updgrade bios and I set default options in bios and it didn't help. Does this mean that usb port is dead, or maybe this is software ( bios ) issue ??

is it one of the ports on the I/O pannel of the mobo? or is it an onboard one that you have to connect to an outside usb port? if its the second one, you might want to check if it is wired corectly or the connectors are not faulty.

  • Dead USB port running hot

I have a mid-2010 white unibody MacBook. It's been running fine, with the exception of a problem with the dashboard after the most recent firmware upgrade about a year ago. I just learned to work around it. But then Friday I got an error saying the the USB port was drawing too much power and was shut down. Sudden and random, as it had never happened before and showed up as I woke it up from screensaver mode. Nothing was plugged in. I have a Magic Trackpad and a Logitech keyboard connected via Bluetooth. Disconnecting them doesn't affect the error. I've tried rebooting and resetting PRAM & SMC. I'm trying to reinstall Lion, but I don't think it's a clean or fresh install. Has anyone encountered a USB port that dies but runs hot? The CPU seems to run a lot warmer than usual, buy about 20° F.
    Any help is appreciated!

    Hi,
It sounds like a Hardware issue, so as you're still under warranty, you will need to contact HP and arrange to have the notebook repaired.
If you live in the US, contact HP Here.
If you are in another part of the world, start Here.

  • The USB port on my 4th generation Airport Extreme does not recognize any peripheral devices whatsoever.  In other words, it does not function at all.  What can I do?

I have had my Airport Extreme for almost a year now.  I have not been able to get it to work.  It has never worked.  I have tried everything in the apple manuals, my peripheral device manuals, and online help.  My Airport Extreme Base Station has a completely dead USB port.  The USB connector does have voltage and ground.  Apparently there is no data transfer.  I do not know how to test the data pinouts.  I don't know if it is a software or driver problem, or if it is a hardware or wiring problem.  My computer is a mid-2009 13" MacBook Pro.  All of my external devices work well with the MacBook Pro.  The USB functionality on the MacBook Pro has always performed without a glitch.  It seems the problem with the Airport Extreme must either be a network communication problem or a hardware/hardwire problem.  I bought the Airport Extreme to build a home inTRAnet network.  I have a seperate 3rd party router for inTERnet.  Contrary to what the manuals declare, the initial setup of my Airport Extreme requires inTERnet setup during the process.  Even when the choice is made to limit the network access to LAN only, when I reach the end of the setup process, a prompts reads that the Airport Extreme may not function because I have not set it up for inTERnet with the WAN.  Well, Dah...  during the intial stages of the setup I told the machine to configure an inTRAnet only LAN setup.  So...  I went ahead and set it up for inTERnet and WAN.  Either way, the USB port is not working.  Then I set it up for the whole package, WAN, LAN, and everything.  Still... no function out of the USB port.  Any ideas?
P.S.  The Ethernet works and so does the 802.11 tranceiver.  The USB port is the only problem, but a major, major one for my needs.  There is no peripheral functionality.

Okay so I figured it out.  I inherited the Configurator already set up so I didn't realize that our former administrator was brilliant and set things up a little differently.  To anyone else who finds themselves in this spot try this:
After you plug the iPad in and open Configurator instead of trying to 'Prepare' the device click 'Assign'
There should be groups of Users listed on the left hand side of the screen.
Select the group you want the ipad to be a part of, or make a new group. ***Note a group can be one person so this is a good feature for teachers to have individual app assignements for students.
After you select the user group click the little plus ( + ) button on the bottom of the screen under the second column of info where names and device serial numbers should appear.
Type the name of the person, group, whatever you want to identify that assignment by into the blank that pops up after you hit the plus ( + )
Then select the assignment you just made and tohe 'Check Our' button at the bottom.  At this point a box will pop up with a window at the top listing all devices supervised by Configurator.  There is a tiny down arrow button that opens a scroll down menu to the right of this box.  Click that, then select the device connected by USB as the one to assign.
The name of the assignment you gave it will show on the lock screen now and you can assign apps and profiles to the device like you would any other device in your Configurator inventory.
    Good Luck.

  • Lost usb port in laptop

My wife attempted to update to Windows 10.It totally failed and "lost" the drivers for the usb ports so she can't use her mouse. We spent MANY hours on the phone with Microsoft while they took control of the laptop and attempted to fix it.They finally told us that they think there's some sort of virus on the drive they can't remove???? and that the laptop needs to have something done about the "partition" on the drive. They were not very clear about this, but told us to contact HP.Our warranty is expired. Considering this, if I do a reset to factory original will this correct the issue or has the virus done damage to prevent a recovery this way? Microsoft seemed to think a reset would not correct the problem. The laptop did not come with any disks. We are NOT any sort of experts on computers so we don't understand much of what they were telling us and we had problems understanding the accent of the person who was working the issue.

, Thanks for posting back.  Yes in fact if it is proven to be a dead usb port the recovery will not solve the issue.  The recovery is to ensure this is not due to a software conflict caused by an update or OS change. It is always the first step to ensure it is not a software issue.  The next step is to pull and replace the motherboard if it is 100 percent tested and proven to be a dead port.  Here is the link to HP support for repair options if you require that.  See if you come up with any issues by running the BIOS hardware diagnostics first though just to see if there is any issues picked up. This link will help you with this. HP Notebook PCs - System Diagnostics (F2) This link will connect you with the correct department at HP support for repair options. Contact HP Support Thanks again for the post and have a great day.

  • USB Ports Dead after undock and redock W510 in Minidock Plus Series 3

    Hi,
just personalized a new W510 (Win XP 32) for a user and installed it on his desk. Everything worked fine except for one thing.
I start the NB in the Docking Station with an external keyboard and mouse (original IBM/Lenovo) attached.
    Works fine.
Then I undock the Notebook (there is no button or menu entry for undocking, it's just press the button to eject the NB).
    Notebook still works fine.
Now I put the NB back into the dock. External LCD shows regular desktop, but external keyboard and mouse doesn't work any more. The mouse doesn't even have power (no light).
I checked every USB Port --> Dead.
If I plug the mouse or keyboard into the usb port of the NB they get power, but don't work.
If I reboot the NB, everything is fine again.
Do I have to install some special plug ins to allow undocking nd "redocking"?
    Thanks
    Regards
    Mith
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I have this problem with my W520, with the keyboard only (the mouse works fine).  I can't do anything with any external keyboard after undocking+redocking until I reboot the machine entirely.
I updated the BIOS and the Intel chipset driver as per the suggestion here and this had no effect.
I explained in more detail in this thread here: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T500-keyboard-locks-when-docking-or-undocki...
I hope someone can shed some light on this, because it's totally shattering my productivity

  • Left USB-Port dead after wake from sleep. Just restart helps.

I hoped Apples keyboard-Update today would solve my biggest hate-bug in this buggy POS called Leopard. It didn't.
As usual on my Leopard-Macbook Pro, no device will work on the left USB-Port after I waked the computer from sleep. Just a restart helps. I hoped this update to solve this, because it replaced among others "IOUSBFamily.kext".
Terminal gives a timeout error for the internal USB-Hub after wake from sleep. I assumed this should be related.
    I'm really angry now.
When will Apple solve the most urgent problems in Leopard?
Was 10.5.1 just smoke and mirrors to make (fool people into...) people upgrade who intended to wait until the first maintenance-update?
Was Leopard Apples attempt to make Windows-Users more comfortable by putting in some heavy extra-bugs and blue screens?
FIX IT FINALLY! And f... don't wait for Macworld to release 10.5.2. It's desperately needed and the current state of Leopard will leave some people very sad at christmas after getting their first Mac. First impression counts and many more peoples first contact with the Mac will be at christmas...

Apple knows the problem and for some reason they are stumped on fixing it. this is so bad I can't believe it. On my macbook pro with Leopard installed, USB left port is dead after sleep. Only restarting can power it back up. I have to restart every day to use my external hard drive for time machine or when putting my flash drive in the port.
Come on already Apple. This is a SERIOUS, SERIOUS problem.
    Fix it.

  • Aluminum iMac USB port dead?

    Hello,
I think one of the USB ports on my Aluminum iMac (2.0 GHz) has stopped working. When I plug in my iPod into this particular port it no longer recognizes the iPod, however when I move the iPod to another port it is recognized. The port worked fine last week. I've tried other things in this port (e.g. USB hard drive), and it's the same thing.
Could this still be a software issue, or is this pretty much a hardware problem?
Is there any other troubleshooting I can do before calling Apple?
    Thanks for any help.

Hm thanks for the idea den.thed
So how do I then see that something is slowing everything down?
    Here is my tree
    http://img408.imageshack.us/my.php?image=picture28et1.png
What I find mostly strange is that apparently there are 2 "USB BUss" which are not being used.
No idea where those are sitting, because all my 3 USB Plugs in the back of the iMac are used up.
Maybe they are 2 free ones in my Mac?
Then what also suprises me it that there is another USB Hub in my USB Hub?
I only have one USB hub, that hub as oyu can see has 2 leaves.
One an external harddrive, the other leaf is a USB Hub with the iPod and another external harddrive.
And as mentioned above I don't know where to look now for the thing that is slowing everything down.
    How do I recognize that?
    Thanks a lot

  • Has anyone ever had a USB port on their Macbook Pro suddenly go dead?

I was just wondering whether anyone using a MAcbook Pro Retina has suddenly had one of their USB ports die on them? My one port does not seem to recongise any peripheral hardware I attach to the port and I am confused why this should have happened. Apart from the obvious reason which is probably that the USB port has died I was just wondering whether this is a common fault with these machines and if it is, whether someone else may have a few words of wisdom related to how to solve the problem. The machine is not even 6 months old so I am reluctant to simply write this off to a failed USB port which will be the first time this has ever happened to me. I would value any input.

    Hi C,
You have a one year warranty and I would definitely bring this to Apple for diagnosis and repair.

  • Dead Ethernet port ATV, will Apple USB connector work?

My ethernet port on my ATV died. I have made sure the cable and switch are okay (by connecting to another device). I have done a factory restore since this port worked until a couple of weeks ago.
Will the Apple USB ethernet adapter and plug this into the ATV to get a wired connection (is the driver in the ATV 2.0 driver library)?
Trying to connect to wireless isn't working on a secure network (tried WPA-PSK, WPA2-PSK and WEP (hex and ascii). ATV sees the network but cannot connect. Using Buffalo Airstation WZR-HP-G300NH. Wireless worked prior to factory restore using WPA2-PSK (was at latest ATV version).

Sorry but no. The USB port (without hacking the OS) serves no user-accessible purpose. If the Ethernet port has failed and your Apple TV is out of warranty, you'll have to try and get wireless working. Perhaps if you start a new topic with that issue, someone here can help you get that sorted.
    Regards.

  • 975X Platinum - All USB ports suddenly dead

    Hello all,
Something similar happened to my previous motherboard (I wrote about it here).
This time though, it happened when I plugged in my scanner to one of the front panel USB ports. Windows displayed a USB power outage error kind of thing and all USB devices stopped working. I unplugged all USB devices. Plugging in any USB device now causes Windows to display the "USB device not recognized" message. Everything else seems to be working fine. Looks like some transistor got fried or something. Some people have suggested me to reset the BIOS and unplug all cables from the motherboard and then trying again. Have to do that yet.
But this USB ports dying thing is really very annoying. I feel that if I buy a new motherboard, it would die the same way some day. This is bad. For the time being, I have installed a PCI 4-port USB host adapter to fulfill my USB related needs. If it serves me well, I think I would continue using my motherboard without it's USB ports working. I think it's far better than getting the whole thing replaced (retailers are really sluggish here and RMA could take 1-2 months to arrive). Basically, the whole situation just sucks as it is!
Has anyone else faced similar problems?

OK ... finally problem solved! Woohooo! Here's what I did:
I was almost fed up. Two of my IDE HDDs (connected to RAID controller) stopped showing up in My Computer (and device manager). I decided to flush the board off all it's power. I unplugged the PSU, disconnected all power cables from devices and the motherboard. Removed RAM sticks, and finally, removed the CMOS battery. Reconnected everything back, and voila .... all USB ports started working! Also, HDDs appeared back in Device Manager. I had lost all hope! Talk about miracles! If anyone else faces this problem, be sure to try what I did. It might help.
