Deadline 4.0 -- AE renders on Linux??

Deadline 4.0 for C4D -- linux  rendering??
Prime Focus just released Deadline 4.0, a cross-platform  render farm toolkit.
http://software.primefocusworld.com...dline/overview/
It supports Windows, Mac and Linux... with for just about every major  software package: C4D, Maya, XSI,  Modo, Nuke, Shake, After Effects,  RealFlow, Quicktime, Blender, Fusion, Houdini, Maxwell, Vray and more.
The website sounds like I can render any software package on any cross-platform slave.  So does this mean I can render AE projects on a cheap Linux farm? That can't be right... can it??

I emailed Prime Focus and they responded in a couple hours!
ME: your website makes it sound I can render a job on any cross-platform slave. Does this mean I can render AE and C4D files on a cheap Linux farm?
THEM: Deadline itself is a cross-platform application, but it can only render on  operating systems that the rendering software itself supports. So AE and  C4D will only work on Windows and OSX.

  • Writing an ALSA Renderer for Linux

    Hi,
I want to write an ALSA Renderer for Linux because I have problems with the JavaSoundRenderer in Linux and I really need a fast Audio Renderer for my app.
What I need is a short tutorial for ALSA that shows how I can play sound with it.
If you know a good tutorial or if anyone can give me short instructions for dealing with this problem post it here please.
    Best regards, thomas

Have you looked at OSS ??
I did some open sound system on linux, and it was easy.
    Lots of documentation/examples.
I also used the exact same code, but compiled a dll on a linux box, to use on windows, with JNI, and it worked.
Check out OSS if you haven't yet.

  • KDE : slow font rendering

    Hi everyone !
I'm completely new to Arch (coming from Ubuntu) and was really amazed at how fast my system could get and how easy it was to set it up.
I only have one problem left (apart from the missing japanese fonts) :
When anti-aliasing is turned on (in KDE), fonts rendering gets really slow. It can be noticed when selecting a big chunk of text with the mouse, in Konqueror or Kate : you can feel it takes some time. Or when switching tabs in Konqueror. Those are definitely much faster in Opera and Firefox.
However, with anti-aliasing turned off, it is almost instant, as it should. But it looks really awful (in general, I have much trouble getting a good font rendering in linux. Probably because of my 19" LCD that only reached 1280x1024)
Do you have any idea ? My config is : nvidia geforce 6600, proprietary drivers, athlon 64 3200+. I tried some MS fonts and the DejaVu font.
Just in case, you may see my xorg.conf, below.
THANKS EVER SO MUCH for reading this far I think my problem may concern many other newbies like me

  • Rendering advice in CS3

I have sort of an obscure question.  I'm about to submit a feature length animated film to a film festival.  They use Withoutabox to upload the film submissions so they can review them.  I'm filling out a lengthy submission package right now and am waiting on some information to finish it.  I have yet to find any details though on what the file size restrictions are for the digital copy I'm going to upload.  I have a feeling the digital version I have on my desktop right now will be too big so I'm looking ahead for advice on what render setting I should use to get a decent quality film with a small file size.  Quality is important obviously cuz this is the version that it will be judged by...but I also need to be able to upload it without blowing up their server lol.
I realize this is an odd question to ask when I don't yet know exactly how big or small the file needs to be but I previously had a lot of rendering trouble that wasted a lot of time and I don't have the time before the deadline to waste on rendering trials and errors.  If I find out I do indeed need to rerender it I wanna be able to try it ASAP and I'd like to know my best options.

Do they say what frame size they want?  If it's suitable for iPod or iPhone or other mobile device, you can use H.264 with a bit rate around 1.5  Mbps  (like Apple does).  If you need full HD at 1920x1080 then you'll need Blu-ray type bit rates of about 20 - 25 Mbps (or higher).
Obviously, 2 hours of feature film at 1.5 Mbps will be a much easier file to move around than one created at 25 Mbps.
NB: Bit rate and duration are the only factors that affect file size.  Frame size doesn't affect it at all.  The only thing frame size affects is whether a particular bit rate will look good or not.

  • Google Earth glitches

After a long time not using it I installed Google Earth 5. What is strange is that the maps render OK, speed is acceptable, but the fonts in some menu entries get garbled up, as well as the text that appears in the map (like e.g. city names, map data etc). Characters are missing or distorted. The same happens with text that appears when hovering over an icon that indicates pictures or wiki entries.
It looks like an overlay proble, but I am not sure how to fix it.
I run it under KDE4 on an HP laptop with Intel 945 GM chip. Have already tried disabling Kwin effects, changing fonts in Google Earth and changed some settings in xorg.cong (AccelMethod EXA) but no difference.
Starting in a terminal gives no errors either. Any ideas?

I'm having the exact same problem (GE5.0, KDE4.3, Dell Inspiron 6400 with Intel 945GM).  I believe it started when the X system video driver "i810" was replaced with the new "intel" driver, during the upgrade of kernel 2.6.27-2 -> 2.6.27.10 (I'm now using 2.6.28).
There appear to be two categories of fonts in the text overlays: a slightly larger font used for placemarks, labels of picture and wiki entry icons and for the text at the bottom of the screen, and a smaller font that's used for street names.  Often now, one of these two font categories is intact, i.e. all the letters are there, but many of them are missing in the other, and then again, after I clear the cache or change a font or do some other things, the situation is reversed.  As for numbers, all of them but the numbers 8 and 9 are always missing, and I can't read the calibration on the distance ruler nor the elevation or the geographical location.  The most usable 3D font I've found is Helvetica Bold 12; others are even worse, in terms of legibility.  But with all of them, there is always something missing.
This is not a problem with GE but rather with font rendering in Linux that is probably specific to the new "intel" video driver.  I.e. when I replace the "intel" video driver with the "vesa" driver (in /etc/X11/xorg.conf), i.e. run GE in OpenGL with software emulation, then all the text in the overlays is there, but GE runs very slowly.  I can't use the older "i810" driver either because that one was removed during the upgrade to the "intel" driver with kernel 2.6.27.10.  It's not compatible anymore with the newer kernel: the "i810" driver would crash the system and X windows would never start up.
This problem is extremely annoying, and it seems to be fairly widespread with GE for Linux but nobody seems to have come up with a solution.

This is really beautiful! I read you rendered it using blender, is this available for linux also or is it windows/mac only?
Criticism: Tux stands out too much, doesn't feel like he fits in. I think it would be really cool and better if you worked on his materials,  perhaps making him look like a plushy? You know a little furry.
Thank you Yes, Blender works very well on Linux, you can get it from the official arch repo ($ sudo pacman -S blender). This image was modeled and rendered entirely on Arch Linux using Blender + Gimp for some touch-ups (I would never make an Arch Linux wallpaper on Windows/Mac, that's sacrilege ).
Thanks for the criticism as well. Like I mentioned above, I'm working on a couple improvements and different designs already. I'll keep your suggestion in mine while designing them.

  • Rendering errors with firefox and chromium SPECIFIC to Arch LInux

Guys - can someone please browse to https://www.americanexpress.com and click on "User ID" using whatever browser?  For me under both Firefox and Chromium, there is some sort of rendering error that prevents me from doing so.  In the screenshot you can see how there is a "phantom menu" that appears above the login dialog:
I booted into a live ubuntu 11.10 CD and tried from there using firefox - no such error.  Now I'm asking myself if this is somehow related to Arch and if so which package should I use in a bug report... thanks for the interest.
    EDIT: x86_64 and nvidia drivers.
EDIT2: x86_64 and nouveau have the same result.

  • Urgent deadline - Please help - Linux serialization problem

    Hi -
I have a presentation on Wednesday morning of my program for my dissertation. I developed the whole thing in windows - it all works great... but the demo is on a Linux machine. Fortunately I tested today in Linux. I have a real problem. I want to save out a class instance. This code works fine in Windows:
                        String project_name = f.getAbsolutePath() + "/" + directory_name + ".oll";
                        ObjectOutputStream out = new ObjectOutputStream(new FileOutputStream(project_name));
                        out.writeObject(mainCanvas);
                        out.flush();
out.close();The problem is that in Linux I just don't get anything saved. There is nothing there at all. No file is saved. I cannot work this out and am in a panic. Any help really appreciated.

  • JTable rendering problem in JRE 1.6.0.10 under Linux

I've encountered a bizarre issue using JTable. I've got a 3x10 JTable of Strings, values in which I change from within the program (no user input). After every update the value in the first column gets superimposed on the top of the previous one, so they are both visible, but totally unreadable (they interlace).
I'm using Linux, and it only happens under jre 1.6.0.10. When I switch to 1.5.0.16 it works fine. I also noticed, that if I set the value to null in the first column and then set it to the new value it works fine. However, if I do it simply like that:
    table.setValueAt(null, 1, 0);
table.setValueAt(newValue, 1, 0);it doesn't work. I need to re-set it to null on one user's click (it triggers the update) and only change it on the following click. Am I reporting a bug here, or is it a known issue with some proper solution?
    Thanks

There are some crazy things, I can't explain...
    1) Here is my [sample project|http://vlkv.storm-soft.kiev.ua/_mywiki/images/6/6f/JavaApplication1.tar.gz]. I've created it with NetBeans 6.5 and jdk 1.6.0_11.
    2) there are directories dist_windows, dist_linux with jars, created under Windows and Linux (same version JDK everywhere). You may compare both JavaApplication1.jar files with some diff tool (such as WinMerge) and you can see that these jars are slightly different. WHY?
    3) Run my sample
java -jar JavaApplication1.jarpress the button and scroll up and down JTable. Under Windows everything is ok. But under Linux I have the subj bug with BOTH dist_windows/JavaApplication1.jar and dist_linux/JavaApplication1.jar !!!
    4) Start NetBeans 6.5 and open the project. Run the project from inside NetBeans on Linux. Then I see that my java program runs perfectly, without any bugs!!!
    This command
ps fu -C javaproduces this output:
    vlkv 8778 1.0 2.8 217084 22408 ? Sl 14:01 0:00 \_ /usr/java/jdk1.6.0_11/bin/java -classpath /home/vlkv/NetBeansProjects/JavaApplication1/build/classes:/home/vlkv/NetBeansProjects/JavaApplication1/src NewJFrame
But if I run NewJFrame without NetBeans like this (copy/paste command):
    /usr/java/jdk1.6.0_11/bin/java -classpath /home/vlkv/NetBeansProjects/JavaApplication1/build/classes:/home/vlkv/NetBeansProjects/JavaApplication1/src NewJFrame
This bug returns!!! WHY UNDER NETBEANS IT'S OKAY?
Where are the java experts to help us, please?
PS: I've found a topic about this problem, unfortunately not answered, here .

  • PDFs rendered on AIX and Linux different file sizes

    Hello,
If I render a PDF on AIX my file size is around 400K. If I render the the same PDF on Linux, the file size is around 1.2MB. I am using the same XDP and XML file. I am using LiveCycle Forms v7.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks, Greg

Just found out that the file size is larger on Linux when I apply usage rights with Reader Extensions.

  • Rendering problems, trying to get render done before film fest deadline!:)

I have two computers and I still am having trouble getting them to properly render a 2.5 hour clip.
My desktop takes the space where some of the titles are, and turns that space into a frozen clip of the footage preceding it, then shows the title for 2 seconds.
My laptop says I think it was "serious error" on a certain part of the timeline when I try to render it seperately. It may have to do with some clips the computer always puts as offline then remembers where they are and then sometimes forgets again.
I managed to get a full render, by doing it in short clips (using the best from each computer then combining them. But the computer has shrunk almost half of the clips so they are smaller size boxes surrounded in black .
We tried codecs, importing into another file, and different ideas. But premeire keeps finding new bugs! The specs for the laptop are at the bottem. Any ideas on how to stop it eating titles especially would be appreciated!

Thanks, Todd.  I realized that the quality would suffer if I stretched it, so let me ask you this:
The video is basically a person green screened and placed in front of an animated background.  The background is made up of text elements and solids generated within AE, along with a couple of pre-produced graphics.  I was afraid that if I increased the comp size to the larger dimensions, then I'd have to basically realign and scale all of the individual elements by hand to fit the new size.
So, what I did instead was to create a new composition at 1280 x 720 and nest the original 640 x 360 comp within it, stretching it to the new borders.  I figure that AE will automatically scale all of the vector elements in proportion for maximum resolution and I won't have to do any resizing.  The only issue at that point is the spokesperson, which was shot on a standard def handy cam (yeah, I know) and which will obviously suffer a bit at the higher resolution.  Is my logic sound?  Anyway, that's rendering right now so I guess I'll see how it works out shortly.
RESULT:  Frankly, it didn't look much better than when I stretched it.  So far, the best results I've gotten has been from rendering an uncompressed avi file and converting to a WMV file with Windows Media Encoder.  Much smaller file sizes and I think the video looked better.  Since most of what I've read has almost universally said that h.264 is the best, I assume I'm doing something wrong.  I mean, the live video portion will never be HD, but I don't see why the text isn't sharper.  Anyway, I continue to refine my methods, so I'm still soliciting advice from any and all comers.

  • Firefox in Linux poorly renders fonts

Hello, when I go to http://famo.us fonts in my Firefox on Debian don't look very well (example in attachment).
The problem exists also when I start Firefox with -safe-mode and in Firefox Developer Edition.

Try to update your graphics driver: [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]

  • Rendering bugs on xf86-video-ati on GNOME Shell

Hi guys. I have a problem with graphics rendering on Arch i686 installed on a bootable USB stick. To handle multiple devices I did pacman -S xorg-drivers. Unfortunately when I log in to GDM/GNOME shell the screen is full of artifacts - several icons are just invisible and rectangular parts of page in Chromium are black, gnome-shell controls blink and so on.
I did not test other display managers/desktop environments. xf86-video-ati works fine for me on 64bit Arch installed on the HDD.

You don't need "radeon" in MODULES, and neither the Module section in xorg.conf, nor the DRI one.
yeap, removing 'radeon' from 'MODULES=' seems to of loaded the driver in the right order and made DRI work,
    thank you.

  • Premiere Pro CS4 4.2.1 Halts rendering whatever I ask!

    Hi there.
Finally I decided to post this.
I have been tracking in internet this situation for months... since PPro CS4 got out, I have been testing and working with it. However, I cannot say I prefer CS4 to other opponents (even one  or two Linux apps oddly).  The thing is when an app makes us spectate, we should have results! I cannot go back to previous releases of PPro because I need that queue in AME. So, let me beggin to explain the error:
The application (Premiere Pro CS4 or Adobe Media Encoder [AME]) halts forever when rendering video (a code loop? while "something"="some thing" then do "render frame again"?). So, happening the error in two aplications that use a bunch of files, I must say it is something used by booth like, my guess, PProHeadless. Moreover, the video it might have a filter or not, an opacity key, might be in a diferent format and created within adobe realm, or even outside like Fusion or Combustion, it can stop. And I say can because I am making tests these holy days to reach a conclusion: it's random. It might ocour in frame 150, or in 20 000, with some kind of format video or a filter or everything "as nature as" a PPro captured avi.
Graphics? Updated as today means. Windows? Up to date also! Adobe Premiere Pro? same thing as you already noticed.
This halt is documented by a png file atached to this post. With taskmanager also. That halt is typical. I am in windows 7 64bits, but also have winxp 64bits that produces the same error. The program can only be terminated by process kill and that sort of things.
As I have searched thoughout the internet, I have only seen a post in creative cows that appears similar to this. No luke for a solution yet. When update 4.2.0 came and I had an enormouse reliefe, thiinking it would "heal" the program... no good. I have not been able to respect some deadlines with clients. I will shift if necessary! At least the minimum would be an error ex spit by the program... nothing never came out. I'm blind and adobe might be also. All programs I've try to develop had error mannagement. CS4 release was something apparatuouse but could had wait for a 4.1.0 update in Premiere for instance...  I am really tempted for a mac! At least I know what should I buy to make a program run in there... just a mac!
As I see, no software seems to be the problem. It's a fresh install of windows 7 and PPro CS4. Nothing else installed in the system but flash, vlc, acrobat reader MSN live, calim av, proDVD mercalli
    Hardware bug or incopatability?
So... my specs if this helps:
    Processor:     AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3500+ 2.21 GHz
    Ram:             5,00 GB 667Mhz
OS:               Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit Operating System
Graphic board: NVIDIA GeForce 7300 LE
MB:               Asus M2N-E with Serial 3Gb/s RAID
Disks:            1 SATA for OS.     SATA Disks for footage and project storage 7000 rotations all I think
I believe everything is Adobe PPro supported... so... where the hell is the problem?
    Thanks in advance!

    OK
I have been these days arround this issue. Done many troubleshooting... trying to understand problems. Here is what I got:
Getting the hauppauge board off the PC seems to have stopped the "halt" of the encoders and renderings in Premiere and AME. Hope it won't happen again, but, It's kind an exclusion game... What was diferent from the setups I have seen in many forums and posts was this ancient board. Adobe shoulde analyse this one against Premiere CS4 and AME: Hauppauge WinTV-Go bt848 conexant board (or it's a lost of time... as it's not supported anymore in Windows, but is in Linux :] ).
As for the playback... a fine tune for performance options of my graphic board was able to reduce the jerkiness of video... so I had the idea to also overclock both processor and graphics. The result is this:
Before: Processing of video with the timeline in view (default workspace) was allways 100%, skipping so many frames that even entire clips coundln't send a sigle frame. Where only the output frame (ç shortcut) playback was almost aceptable, with processing at 100% and some times going leaving a tiny space for other things to process.... The fine tune of graphics board, was able to get in default workspace the insertion of may more frames in there, and with ç shortcut - output full mode, it was 95-100 spiking frequently between them.
Now: Default workspace: 80% processing... Output frame: 60-70% My pc is now in test to seach for the optimal (aceptable) overclock parameters. And it seems I can overclock even more (not in graphics but the processor).
This is good and aceptable for the computer setup...
However, to everyone reading this, please be very carfull at how you overclock. Be shure you read everything you can find (from reliable sources - your hardware suppliers, as for the processor, the mother board, the graphic board... etc..). If you mess something, better you have the money to replace :].
    Thanks for everyting

  • Corrupted video with Linux 3.8 and i915

Meanwhile, I encountered it seems to be a problem of the gdm in conjunction with the gpu and the intel driver - once again :-(
    Look at this thread: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=161964
Actually, I can start my DE (Gnome 3.8) manually with the following workaround:
First, I disable gdm on my machine
    # systemctl disable gdm
After bootin the machine, I'm logging in into the console
    $ startx
    stopping the X system again
    $ sudo systemctl start gdm
logging in into the Gnome Shell.
I need to start the X server first manually. Otherwise the gdm will hang again.
