Deafult host mapping (mac/pc gaming)

Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone could help with a port problem I'm having directly related to hosting/connecting online gaming via my Airport Extreme network (not LAN). As searches have only helped answer certain parts of my problem. For the record, some friends and I are trying to start an online multiplayer game (StarWars Battlefront) but most of them are on PC and the multiplayer option only let's mac/pc connect via direct IP connection. They also have networks/routers that their machines are connected to but I know how much of a pain it is to configure that sort of thing in Windows. *I don't look so smug now though do I!?*
Basically I've tried setting the base station to 'Enable Default Host at..' and left the default address of 10.0.1.253 then gone into System Prefs and tried to assign the new private IP (default host) to this machine by going to Network - TCP/IP and changed the configure drop down menu to 'Use DHCP with manual Address'.
Once I've changed the manual IP of the machine as 10.0.1.253 to match the default host address in the Airport settings and applied, I no longer get access to the internet. I assumed it was to do with the DNS server address not being there so I copied and pasted that from the 'Internet' settings in the Airport Admin configure window. But still no joy!
I've tried just port mapping without specific port assignment number doesn't seem to work (and Aspyr don't seem to like answering email! swines) coz I know Quake and things like that use specific port numbers, but by all accounts using the default host option seems to be the best logical solution
Can anyone help?

bongo_boy, Welcome to the discussion area!
Don't use "DHCP with manual Address". Follow the directions in Steve Newstrum's user tip: How do I use Port Mapping (Part I).

  • Safari will not load sites hosted on .Mac

    Ever since the most recent update, I have not been able to view any of my four websites hosted on .Mac. It doesn't hang with the spinning ball or crash, it just goes to a blank screen...no error warnings or anything. It does this on all four of our household Macs (they all have the latest update). I can pull up these sites perfectly on any other browser.
    Anybody else having this problem? Is there a way to revert to the older version of Safari or a fix?
    I've tried emptying the cache and sometimes that resolves it, but not for long...then it's right back to the same old same old and sometimes it doesn't help at all.
    Thanks for any and all input on this matter!

    Are you accessing the sites directly or through URLs that are being forwarded to your .mac sites? If it is the latter, it is probably the same problem being discussed in:

  • Host changing MAC of guest

    Hi, this is beyond belief. The ipconfig in guest shows MAC address a, and the host has MAC address b. However, the guest reports that dhcp sent it an address that was already in use. Upon checking the log of the router, I realised that it DHCP server recieved
    the request from address b, which is the host's MAC. Any ideas on why this is happening? I have tried changing routers but the symptoms are still here.

    Yes, Hyper-V and wireless adpaters is tricky, you should read Ben's article about that

  • SG 200-08 - Host Mapping Freezes Web Interface

    Selecting "Host Mapping" freezes the web interface.
    Actually it totally kills the web interface and the switch will no longer respond web requests.
    (IP Configuration - Domain Name System - Host Mapping)
    Have to power cycle reboot to recover.
    Model: SG 200-08
    Version: 1.0.6.2

    Dear Customer,
    Thank you for reaching Small Business Support Community.
    I first suggest to upgrade to the latest firmware release version 1.3.2.2;

    If the problem persists and if you have tried different web browsers already, I then suggest you to download and install Java Runtime Environment since I've noticed some of the pages in the web-based interface that require the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) to be installed.
    Please try this out and let me know if there is any further assistance I may help you with.  I'll be looking forward to hear from you.

    Hi,
    I have a SG 200-08 switch and assumed that the "Host Mapping" tab would show all devices that communicate via the switch. But the page just shows "

  • What is the best Mac for gaming?

    Ok so as the title says, I was wondering what is the best Mac for gaming, I would like to play at least some old games which I have laying around the house when I'm at the airport or whatever. I read that macs are not that good at gaming but they do work at some degree :P
    Also I was wondering, me and my friend were arguing why is a Mac not considered a PC. I my arguments where that a PC means it has all that nasty, heavy, big hardware, with all the cards and stuff and that a mac just has the slick monitor with some stuff in it :P and a keyboard/mouse. His arguments were that even if macs only have the stuff mentioned above, it should still be considered a PC since it is afterall a Personal Computer.
    Thanks a lot and hopefully you'll settle my argument and aswear my question.

    Best computer for gaming is always the one with the highest specs. But generally speaking, a base macbook does ok. The major piece you need to increase FPS on a mac is a video card though, so generally the Pros or iMacs will be a better choice.
    Your friend is right, PC = Personal Computer. Mac's run the exact same hardware as a PC, just run different OS's. But its a term that got misplaced with windows in the flame wars of every forum post. P.S. Mac pros are a tower with no screen, just like the traditional windows ones.

  • Can anyone recommend a database host for Mac

    is there one that is trusted for Mac users?

    im not exactly sure what your looking for? an alternative host to .mac? Any host would be fine and some of the more popular ones are http://www.godaddy.com and http://www.1and1.com Is this what you were asking?

  • Optimize Mac for Gaming with Bootcamp?

    Hi, I have a Mid 2012 MacBook Pro with Windows 7 installed using Bootcamp. Because I'm a student my parents aren't exactly thrilled with the idea of getting me a Gaming PC, but since I'm not a hardcore gamer I think I can make do with what I have. How would I be able to optimize my gaming experience with my Mac? In other words, whether it is with software, or upgrading some hardware, how can I make my Mac usable for gaming. And trust me, I'm not hoping for 60FPS having games on the highest setting kind of thing, something that is decent quality is all I want. I feel that my Mac's current specs and hardware is almost at where I want it, but some optimization to increase efficiency and performance would be really nice. Thanks in advance!

    you are stuck with whatever graphics it has which is usually the main resource.
    Did you buy with just base RAM? which processor? you can't change the cpu.

    Windows can't be installed on an external drive but it can be cloned and booted off Thunderbolt interface.
    Boot Camp
    A PC with i7-4790 and 16GB + SSD (case, psu, copy of Windows) and X89 motherboard would of course give you freedom and not have to dual boot, plus you get to choose the GPU you need. Windows on Mac often run hot, hotter than they do already. And later you can upgrade just the parts you need to.

  • Mac for Gaming and School

    Hello All. Okay, so I am new the Mac community. This fall I am planning on buying a Mac, but I was wondering if someone could tell me the different specs I would need for school work and gaming.  Would it be better to get the Macbook Pro 15" or 13"? What would I need for an effective gaming computer. I plan to play the Sims and Guild Wars 2 on the computer. I don't know if that helps at all. If any of ya'll could give me some input that would be great.

    Guild Wars is 3D and the Mac client is in Beta, for that you will require the 15" as the 13" has no discrete graphics.
    No specifications on what the software will run on, but 3D games often require the most powerful video card graphics you can get and the option to upgrade it as the game gets improvments. You can't upgrade the video card in laptops.
    I really don't advise any Mac for 3D gaming, a Windows 7 tower is much MUCH better suited to task and you can upgrade the video cards from plenty of cost effective options.
    The MacPro is due to be axed it appears as Apple hasn't updated it for ages, the only video card upgrades (the few there are) cost 3x more and are 2x less in performance than compatible Windows PC versions.
    Perhaps your better off on a 13" MBP with SIMS there (it's mainly 2D graphics) and then a Windows 7 64 bit gaming tower with 4GB of RAM expandable and the option to upgrade the video card every 6 months so you don't fall behind for the heavy duty games.
    If your budget is tight, a console works ok too.
    Scroll down until you find a Mac, you'll see what I mean shortly.

    Also you need to keep your Windows 7 skills up, as 95% of all businesses use it, so you need to get a job one day.

  • Can't view my personal domain html hosted on .mac mobleme

    I just set up a mobleme or .mac trial account because I am now using iWeb to redisign my web page. When I publish the site it gives me a message saying I can now view my web page at http://mywebdomain.com but when I click the menu to view it the web browser takes me to the adress but it is the .mac page and it says it doesn't exist. When I check my .mac personal settings the page is listed as my personal domain and the iweb file is listed in my iDisk file menu. so where is my site and how do I fix this problem?

    Okay, so have you entered your domain name into the personal domain setting in your MMe account?
    Have you been to your domain name registrar or hosting company and changed the DNS settings so that you can set-up CNAME to re-direct your domain name to MMe? If not you need to do this before you can view your site. It will be something similar to www, then pick CNAME from a drop down menu or fill in and then web.me.com and CNAME is set. It can take up to 24 hours to take effect though.
    If you have not altered these settings then you need to for your site to be visible. However, you can still view your site by going to web.me.com/username/sitename. All sites can be seen like this even if you have set up a personal domain.

  • Web hosting using Mac Pro

    I want to run a website and wondered if any of you could recommend a web hosting services in the UK that supports Mac OS X.

    However their web hosting software packages are not compatible with Mac OS X so i'm not sure what else I would need?
    Eh?! I've never come across a hosting account that wasn't compatible with Mac OS X. All hosting accounts use standard protocols to access your space, ftp/http etc, which makes them universally compatible and in turn, not OS specific.
    The only reason I mentioned MS accounts is the fact that their web servers sometimes require slightly different coding which can be a pain if you don't know what you're looking at.
    Could I use webspace provided by my ISP?
    You could do that too.

  • How to map MAC address to Logical name

    Hi all:
    Is there any command to get the logical NIC name according to MAC address?
    The 'ifconfig -a' command only list the network information for these plumbed network card.
    But how to get the logical name for these unplumbed network cards if I know the MAC address?
    Thanks a lots!

    Hi both, Thanks!
    I have tried to use "prtconf -v > output_file" and search under /dev and /devices method. It couldn't find the unplumbing network name.
    Is there any other suggestion?
    And also I think I should describle more clear about my question.
    I want to configure IPMP group automatically by scripts after OS (spac system)installed. For the script, only the MAC addresses(which network card is not unplumbed) are passed as parameter for IPMP group setting. You know for IPMP setting. it needs to written setting in /etc/hostname.<interfacename>.
    So I need to map the MAC address(which is not unplumbed) to logical name(interface name).
    how to do this?
    I wonder for the "ifconfig -a" command:
    When I use "ifconfig -a" command in Beign script, which is called before OS Jumpstart installation. It works to find out all network interface and MAC address.
    See below script:
    <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
    probe_interfaces()
    SI_INT=`ifconfig -a|awk -F: '/^[^.lo.]/ && /^[a-zA-Z]/{print $1;}'`
    SI_NUMINT=`ifconfig -a|awk -F: 'BEGIN{num=0;}/^[^.lo.]/ && /^[a-zA-Z]/{num++;}END{print num;}'`
    export SI_INT
    export SI_NUMINT
    probe_ethers()
    SI_ETHERS=`ifconfig -a|grep ether|awk ' { print $2 } '`
    export SI_ETHERS
    And the result of executing in Begin script , see below:
    Ethernet interfaces detected:( I got all these interface name and MAC address)
    bge0
    bge1
    bge2
    bge3
    ce0
    ce1
    MAC addresses:
    0:3:ba:dd:de:4f
    0:3:ba:dd:de:50
    0:3:ba:dd:de:51
    0:3:ba:dd:de:52
    0:3:ba:d9:eb:f7
    0:3:ba:d9:eb:f8
    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
    I only configure one network card on this OS. But after the OS installed, the "ifconfig -a" doesn't work to find all these network interface. It is only show the configured network interface.
    I don't know why the behaviors of "ifconfig -a" command are different between before OS installed and after OS installed.
    Thanks!
