Dealing with a dead laptop. Help needed

I am a college student and my acer computer just died on me. It has been having problems for the longest time the plg only works when it wants to and the battery won't hold a charge. Now the computer won't even charge. So i have ordered a dell but is there a way that i can get all my info from the acer on to the dell without the acer even being able to turn on. And the acer is still under warranty but the customer service is horrible and i can never get on agnet to really help me order the parts i think need.

Your local Geek Squad can transfer the data from the Acer to the Dell without much problem, assuming the hard drive is in working order. Urgent Iphone with new laptop help needed!

ok so i did a fresh reinstall of leopard on my macbook without thinking about syncing my iphone.
now whenever i plug my iphone into my laptop it thinks its a camera and opens image capture and asks me what photos i want to download off it. It wont show up on the desktop or in itunes.
I have all the music, apps etc backed up on my machine. i do not however have backups of my contacts!
i have a backup of the iphone in itunes, but i cant get to a point of restoring the phone to the back up i have, as plugging it in does nothing.
there is a setting to erase all content and settings on the iphone, will this render it as if i had just bought it out of the shop, meaning i can resync with my 'new' laptop?

I managed to fix it myself in the end, with a slight work around. once i had reinstalled leopard, i noticed a utility called migration assistant. I used that to transfer my old user account off my time machine and restore all the settings etc. now my iphone syncs with my laptop again. hoorah!
Interestingly, i tried the migration assistant when installing leopard (the whole 'setting up your computer' process) but it refused to do anything. I would tell it what to restore from time machine, it would accept, and then sit there with an empty progress bar that did not move all night. And i mean all night!

Sad face and folder with ! mark. Help needed

My ipod will either show the sad Ipod face, or the folder with the exclamation mark when I try to turn it on. Also my computer won't even recognize it. It wont work or anything. I have tried to reset it, but nothing works. What are my options? I went to check out the repair options but when I choose defective unit, it wants me to pay over $200. I also just went out of warranty. Like last week. I have the 20GB, and its the version right before the video ipods.

Intermediate Level
A. Try to connect your iPod with another computer with the iPod updater pre-installed.
B. Still can’t see your iPod, put it in Disk Mode and connect with a computer, instead of doing a Restore on iPod Updater. Go and format the iPod instead.
For Mac computer
1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
6. Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
For Window computer
Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
In case you do not manage to do a “Format” on a window computer, try to use some 3rd party disk utility software, e.g.“Partition Magic”.
C. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
Tips
a. It does not matter whether the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted firmware files on the Hard Drive of the iPod. After that, when the iPod re-connected with a computer, it will be recognized as an fresh external hard drive, it will show up on the iPod updater.
b. It is not a difficult issue for a Mac user to find a window base computer, for a PC user, if they can’t find any Mac user, they can go to a nearest Apple Shop for a favor.
c. You may need to switch around the PC and Mac, try to do several attempts between “Format” and “Restore”
Advance Level
A. Diagnostic mode solution
If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select"
The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons:
iPod 1G to 3G: "REW", "FFW" and "Select"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Back" and "Select"
You will hear an audible chirp sound (3G models and higher) and the Apple logo should appear backwards. You are now in Diagnostic Mode. Navigate the list of tests using "REW" and "FFW". Try to do the 5in1, HDD R/W and HDD scan tests. Some successful cases have been reported after the running the few tests under the Diagnostic mode. In case it does not work in your case, and the scan tests reports show some errors then it proves your iPod has a hardware problem and it needs a repairing service.
B. Format your iPod with a start disk
I have not tried this solution myself, I heard that there were few successful cases that the users managed to get their iPod (you must put your iPod in disk mode before connecting with a computer) mounted by the computer, which was booted by a system startup disk. For Mac, you can use the Disk Utility (on the Tiger OS system disk), for PC user, you can use the window OS system disk. Try to find a way to reformat your iPod, again it does not matter which format (FAT32, NTFS or HFS+) you choose, the key is to erase the corrupted system files on the iPod. Then eject your iPod and do a Reset to switch out from Disk Mode. Reboot your computer at the normal way, connect your iPod back with it, open the iPod updater, and hopefully your iPod will appear there for the Restore.
If none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired.

Last Resort Level
1. . Disconnecting the Hard Drive and battery inside the iPod – Warning !! Your iPod warranty will be waived once you open the iPod.
In Hong Kong there are some electronic shops offering an iPod service for Sad iPod, the first thing they do is to open up the iPod’s case and disconnecting the battery and the Hard Drive from the main board of the iPod. Wait for 5-10 minutes and reconnecting them back. The reason behind which I can think of is to do a fully reset of a processor of the iPod. In case you want do it itself and you believe that you are good on fixing the electronics devices and have experience to deal with small bits of electronic parts, then you can read the following of how to open the iPod case for battery replacement (with pictures)

Have I tried this myself? No, I am afraid to do it myself as I am squeamish about tinkering inside electronic devices, I have few experiences that either I broke the parts (which are normally tiny or fragile) or failed to put the parts back to the main case. I don't have an iphone, but if it's anything like my click-wheel ipod, a reset doesn't delete anything.
It just resets the ipod's operating system, kind of like a PC restart. Did you try this Sleep/Wake button thing mentioned here?

Help! Dead laptop and need to downgrade from 10.5, in particular, Mail

My G4 1.67, barely coping with 10.5 has died. I am now existing on my 11 yr old 400Mhz sawtooth until I have the funds to buy a new machine.
The HDD was rescued and is now hooked up to my Sawtooth (praise be to OSX flexibility in this regard)
However, the machine is on impulse power, 1/4 that of my 6 year old laptop.
As it has only 768MB RAM, even Tiger is a bit of a push, but livable. Leopard is not.
I do have my old 10.4.5 image and want to bring it up to date.
1. I have an iPhone, so could I use that to bring my Safari bookmarks up to date?
2. Mail - how could I bring back to my Tiger world the current state of my Mail on Leopard?
3. Is there anything else I would need to pull back (keychain?) or is it best to somehow pull the entire user account back in?

SQL Server Database Connectivity with Visual Studio 2012 - Help Needed

I am having Visual Studio 2012 and SQL Developer 4.0 installed on my system with Windows 8 - 64bit
I want to shift a VS project with an SQL database connectivity to another new Laptop (above mentioned) ...
I have the project opened in VS without bieng connected to the database..
I have a backup file of the database (which needs to be restored to a new created database on SQL Developer)
The problem:
I am unable to create a server connection in SQL Developer which will allow me to create a new database followed by the recovery from backup file.
I am getting the following error message when I try to create a connection:
Status: Faliure - IO error: The network adapter could not establish a connection
Please help me in setting up a server connection and adding a new sql database

Show HashMap in Datatable. UIColumn with embedded Datatable. Help Needed

I am trying to display a HashMap in a datatable where the values for each key is an ArrayList e.g.

Problems with my new E5, help needed

I just got me a new E5 about a week ago. Despite reading a lot on this forum, I still have two major issues setting up this device; so I need some help. Problem number one is that I cannot set up my email. I have "aol" email that falls under "other" in the email set up section. Some of the screens listed in Pool of Knowledge subsection (like choosing POP3 or IMAP) does not even come up in my e5 during email setup screens. What to do to set up aol email account.
Problem number 2 is that I cannot transfer my contacts and other data from old device (Nokia X2-01) to the new e5. I paired them easily using Bluetooth but when it get to the point of transferring the data, I hear a "click" sound in the e5 and "Bluetooth disconnected.... " error message comes on. I have tried upteenth times but I get the same result. When I tried to transfer contacts one by one, using Bluetooth business card option it works; but I have over 800 contacts and I would like to use the switch route. What to do to solve this problem?. I hope I do not have a faulty device.

I can't help you with the contacts problem, but have you made any progress with email? Just because you pick the Other category, doesn't mean you need to enter every server detail. I use Earthlink email, but simply typing my email address causes the wizard to fill in every other detail besides my password. (Curiously, it always uses the wrong SMTP server.) But once setup finishes, I can change any of the settings. I hope that helps. (And BTW, the above may not apply if you opt for using Nokia's push service.)

Oracle 11G Install on Win 7 With PL/SQL Developer Help Needed

Today is my first day with Oracle. I have tried to Install Ora11g from our network drive.I think the installation went fine. I also installated PL/SQL Developer when i try to log in i got the following error see below.

After i did some research online i found this solution "go to Tools > Preferences > options set manually "Oracle Home" to the folder of ORACLE_HOME and "OCI Library" to the oci.dll file located in ORACLE_HOME/bin/oci.dll"

When i apply thse 2 paths i get the following error.

Problems with restricted users, urgent help needed

Greetings,
I represent a company called eChiron, a service desk company for several client companies.
We have a client company that has bought between 100 to 200 cell phones, all Nokia 6233. They all run client PCs with windows XP SP2 and are all restricted users (mandatory).
We've installed 2 nokia PC suites as pilot prior to mass deploying and have both failed to run correctly.
They execute correctly if the user is changed to local admin (being that the method of instalation), but when reverting back to restricted user the application doesn't work correctly.
It starts and (apparently) conects to the mobile phone trough bluetooth interface. In reality the conectivity is nonexistent (we've tested by turning off the mobile phone...) and the connection log reports "conection failed".
As i mentioned before, it's not an hardware fault since it all works correctly in admin mode.

Download/Open .pdf files with Windows 8.1 - Help needed urgently!

Hi, all. I hope this is not a stupid question, but can someone please help with downloading/opening .pdf files?
I am running Adobe Acrobat XI Pro, latest version (no updates available) on a Windows 8.1 platform. When I attempt to download a .pdf file (ANY .pdf file!), my system gives me this error message -
"Adobe Acrobat does not support Internet Explorer's 64-bit mode. Either install the latest version of Adobe Reader, or disable 64-bit mode in Internet Explorer"
I find this baffling. If I could find a later version of Reader than what I have, I would like to try it - but, Adobe updates tells me I have the latest version of Reader. Also, as above, I have the latest version of Acrobat - if Reader could support 64-bit, surely Acrobat XI Pro could?

Airport Express problem with iMac G5 iSight - help needed!

I bought an Airport Express (AX) last week, upgraded my OS to Leopard and installed Airport Utility fine. I could join my existing wireless network and everything worked fine for streaming itunes through my stereo. But this week Airport Utility has stopped being able to find the AX and I can't work out why - really need some help! Its in the same place as last week, close to the computer, and I tried another location right next to the Imac but didn't work. When I restore factory settings Airport Utility does recognise the device, and allows me to update settings for wirelessly connecting to my existing wireless network, so the light on the AX is solid green. But then AU again says it cannot find any AX wireless device. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong???

Hi I'm still battling with this - have connected the AX to my Imac via ethernet and it shows up fine in Airport Utility. Status light is green and it says its set up to connect to my existing wireless network using wireless connection. Security in Network Preferences is the same for both: WPA2 Personal.
So I don't think there's a problem with the AX, and my current wireless network (BT Home Hub) is working fine.
And when I restore factory settings Airport Utility can see the AX before updating settings so the wireless side of AX must work too.
I'm figuring it must be something about the settings that mean AU can't see it anymore. But I can't work out what, since security is the same.
Any ideas would be great!

Laptop Help Needed!

I am currently in the market for a laptop that will allow me to play some games and manage my music. I do the vast majority of gaming on my 360 so the laptop would primarily used for simulations (Football Manager, Baseball Mogul, etc.) and Strategy games (World in Conflict, Age of Empires, Company of Heroes, etc.) but I've never really purchased a laptop with that purpose. What size graphics card and processor speed should I be looking for? Any laptop suggestions? I obviously don't want to go over the top because I don't plan on playing FPS or heavy action online stuff or anything.
Any help you folks could provide would be greatly appreciated!

Those games are by no means "low requirement" games.
I'd look for a dedicated card with at least 256MB of memory, not shared memory.
If possible look for a laptop with a 7200RPM hard drive as this will improve load times for the games, as well for the laptop overall.
With RAM as cheap as it is, I'd look for either a model that already has 4GB of RAM, or upgrade it to 4GB.
Processor speed... For now the standard mid range laptop runs a 2.0GHz dual core(AMD or Intel).
To put that all together, look for a laptop with dedicated graphics memory, a dual core with 2.0GHz or better, and at a bare minimum of 2GB of RAM, preferably 4.
I could start to list models/brands, but your best bet is to go into a store and find what feels right for you.

Everything works fine but the .csv file's header gets broken after certain characters..wondering why this is happening..pls help.

I can't provide a solution but maybe a little help. With the header line you posted here it seems to me that a new line starts after 2048 = 2^11 characters. This might be a limitation or a length of any variable in the package.
Maybe you can change this value or shorten the texts in the header to stay below this limit.
A few more things:
- the code, that you posted here became destroyed in lines like UTL_SMTP.mail (conn, '< ' .... because the forum software tried to find html-code between the "<" and ">" signs.
- you can mark code in your postings with (see FAQ). It makes code better readable but it does not help with the "<" and ">" signs.
- you left your e-mail-address in the header of the code. I guess this was not your intention. You can edit it and remove the address even after posting a message.
