  • Dear Adobe, please patch Premiere Pro CS4

    Dear Adobe
    How come there's a minor patch to Adobe Reader or to Flash every few weeks, yet no patches at all in the automatic updates for Premiere Pro CS4?
    I am extremely annoyed with Premiere Pro CS4. It crashes for some dumb reason or another every single day.
    The biggest problem of all is the Adobe Media Encoder. Should it crash when I click to change the location of a render? Why does it ask if I want to overwrite a file (say, "test.mov"), then makes a new version of the file anyway ("test_1.mov"). Plus the far more serious problems documented in the forum.
    I like the new features, but CS4 is not reliable. No one can work in a product that they can't trust.
    People have asked me if CS4 is worth the money for an upgrade. I have been kind and polite, saying, "Well, I have found some bugs, but it has a lot of nice new features".
    My tune changed last night. I'm tired of the bugs, crashes, and lack of patches.
    I will now say, "CS4 is absolutely not worth buying until it is fixed. Stay away. You'll only be aggravated."

    I assume that Adobe considers these sorts of problems "installation" issues and does not charge for support. Is that correct? Yes, that is no guarantee of success, but that has appeared to me to be an important step in their fixing issues: dealing with specific hardware/OS issues. After all, it only takes one problematic driver to create some of the problems that are reported. And some problems will be Operator Error.
    I agree that details can be helpful, but as we've learned before, there can be an amazing list of things that are potentially relevant. Bill Gehrke, I've forgotten what you said about the status of your benchmark, but I think your system is a very important way to translate "Premiere CSx is slow" etc to meaningful information about various computer subsystems. Adobe should hire you to set this up as a troubleshooting aid. (Wil, I'm serious.)
    In addition to a list of hardware, there's also the list of troubleshooting steps. E.g. have you turned off "whatever you call that nasty thing in Vista that wrecks your performance".
    And, in the case of CS4 (perhaps CS3 was no different), we have to be sure we are talking about the same "task" - SD, vs the many flavors of other video.
    One step in this is for Eric and others that have working systems to list their hardware and setup, and for those with very similar systems that are not operating to see if they can sort out differences.
    I don't have CS4 yet - CS3, WinXP SP3, P4 2.8, 2G Ram. It's not that I'm waiting for you beta-plus testers to iron out the bugs, I just can't afford it and the new computer I need for it. But, I sure hope you get them ironed out by the time I'm ready....

  • Dear Adobe - This is an Outrage!

    At the off-chance that somebody at Adobe actually gives a damn:
    Dear Adobe managers, programmers and service people,
    As a long time customer who has spent many thousands of dollars on your products, and has developed a work flow completely dependent on your products, I have to say I am dismayed and appalled by your recent release of Premiere Pro CS4.
    Looking at this board it quickly becomes clear that PPro CS4 was simply not ready to be released to the public, however for whatever reason you decided to do so anyhow and with that gravely endangered many people's livelihood.
    I think I speak for many when I say I am
    SICK of spending hours every day looking for fixes to problems that didn't exist in previous versions. I'm SICK of dreading doing any video projects for clients because so far this has resulted in disaster and missed deadlines, thanks to CS4.
    While some problems discussed on this and other Adobe-centric boards clearly stem from user error, many severe issues are indeed because Premiere Pro CS4 and the new Adobe Media Encoder are simply bad products.
    For years I have defended Premiere Pro against Final Cut Pro, Avid, and Vegas, as I have experience with all of them, and I generally liked Premiere Pro CS2 and CS3 better.
    I had recommended Premiere Pro to many fellow professionals who followed my advice and spent money on a product that I am now embarrassed to admit to be using.
    This wasn't always the case -
    What happened to you?
    - Premiere Pro CS2 and CS3's stability was great and both worked well with decent hardware.
    - Premiere Pro CS4 now can't even play back two tracks/streams of HDV on top of each other without stuttering or crashing, even if the source files are on a RAID 0.
    The same system setup of mine never had problems like this (and even up to four streams, plus effects) in CS2.
    - I used to create custom sequence settings to work on certain HDV/HD files, doing this now on CS4 results in horrendous stuttering, and crashes.
    - AVCHD playback and editing is terrible, yet that capability was one of the selling points of CS4.
    - Several of the effects, especially the very important Track Matte has serious problems that crash Premiere Pro constantly.
    - The Media Encoder isn't capable of properly deinterlacing footage when converting to WMV, something that had never been an issue in the past. You even took away to manually deinterlace footage. Why?
    - I could go on and on about the issues with Premiere Pro CS4 but if you take the time to read the threads here you will quickly discover what a problem CS4 is.
    Again, many of us aren't hobbyists who use Premiere Pro for vacation footage. We LIVE from what we create with your product and now we are having serious problems because we chose to go with Adobe products instead of your competitors.
    I hope at least the more severe issues with Premiere Pro CS4 will be fixed swiftly and an update will follow very soon.
    Thanks

    Add this to Adobe's poor QA with Lightroom and Photoshop and you have an obvious trend. Too many products too little testing and control. Throw in offshore piecework coding just to insure that it never all quite comes together, and throw in marketing driven timelines to make it virtually certain that QA goes south. And, does anyone think today's economic conditions will improve the downhill slide.
    I had just about been convinced in theory to move from Grass Valley (formerly Canopus)Edius 5x for PP CS4--largely for its connectivity to AE and PS, and its new metadata and media management features, both of which I could benefit from, but only if they are stable, reliable, and bug free.
    Not now. Three full twelve hour days on a trial CS4 was trial enough. And , by the way, it is not my machine (Intel 9550 Quad, 8 gigs, fast Sata 2 and firewire 800 drives, Nvidia 8600GT, latest drivers) or my unfamiliarity with PP editing, nor my understanding of video editing (20 years doing it for a living on numerous systems).
    Edius is a rock solid, very fast, trouble free high quality video editor that has greatly improved my professional workflow efficiency over PPCS2 (and Vegas, and Avid). The PPCS3 trial was no competition to it. It is the best editor for pro work I have used to date. It is both powerful and trouble free--what the hell was I thinking, anyway?
    The lure of new features clouded my good sense, as usual! These editing apps are tools, and they have to do the job reliably, effectively, and quickly when you use them for a living--my time is money, so I won't spend it losing income while being an unpaid beta tester struggling to find workarounds for a huge corporation that charges big prices for its prematurely released products.
    Maybe next time, Adobe. When you produce a better tool than your competitors, than the one I now have, then I'll buy it without hesitation.

  • Dear Adobe Readers:

    Tuesday, February 10, 2015
    Dear Adobe Comment Readers:
    In the past I have written some fairly critical comments about Adobe and it "Help" process for customers.  I still feel that there needs to be an updating of their phone system which allows customers some way to talk with a "Real Person" no matter what their situation.  This still not being the case, I purposely pushed some "WRONG" numbers on my telephone so that I could get to talk to someone alive and talking.  By God's mercy and grace I finally did get a nice lady on the phone who explained that she was not the person who could fix my issues with Photoshop, etc. but that she would try to get me to someone who could help me.  I was on hold for quite some time.  After being "hung up on and cut off" by the phone susten three times early today, for a bit of the hold time I thought this might have been Adobe's way of getting rid of me simply by placing my call in "HOLD HELL."  But that was not the case.  Finally a very nice gentleman names AMIT answered my call. He asked me some questions about the problems I was experiencing and then he went to work very systematically.  Several things he asked me to do did not work from my computer or from one of my internet servers.  So instead of just saying, "Sorry, I can not help you any longer," he dug in even harder and we tried several different modes of getting the jobs done which were causing me problems. AMIT truly was a blessing to me today, not just because he fixed my computer and photo problems so very well, but because he did not abandon me.  He knew I was a stranger in trouble and that I had no other recourse beside him if I was going to be able to get my work done...  and in a very patient and polite way he walked me though several avenues and directions to get me where I needed to go to be able to do my work this evening.  To ADOBE, I say, "You need to serve us your customers who need to contact you by phone in a much better way than to just lead us to a dead end which reads "WE ARE VERY BUSY.  TRY AGAIN LATER."  But I also thank you for providing me with a very, very nice and well-trained technician who truly was a blessing to me.  To AMIT, I sincerely say, "THANK YOU VERY MUCH, FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART."

  • Dear Adobe, it's great you keep adding new features, but what about ...

    Dear Adobe,
    It's great you keep adding shiny new "newsworthy" features ... but what about fixing long-standing bugs/issues and addressing the basics that have been missing since the the beginning?
    WHAT ABOUT LEAVING PASTED CLIPS SELECTED after a Paste operation in the Timeline?!? Like every other app in the world?
    What about leaving a complex selection of clips intact after an UNDO operation? (This costs me hundreds of minutes a week.) Like every other app in the world?
    What about allowing "." as an abbreviation for "00" when entering timecode?
    What about letting the renaming of a clip in a bin be reflected in timelines?
    What about a "reduce project" option? (To remove all items not used by selected sequences, like Ae.)
    What about actually useful clip labels (colors) which link between timeline items and their respective clips in the bin? (Like Avid & FCP) So we can mark certain clips a certain color in a bin and have that color be reflected in timelines?
    What about being able to close the title tool with a shortcut, not just a tiny 4x4 button?
    What about fixing the title tool so it's kerning/leading shortcuts are NOT the exact opposite of EVERY OTHER CC application?
    What about a simple "Select Media Relatives" command, like in FCP and Avid?
    What about fixing the audio scrub toggle shortcut so that it works without having to play or use the mouse?
    What about a shortcut for "Reveal in Finder" from the Timeline? It's in the context menu -- why no shortcut?

    I am curious about the time you waste ...and wonder what and why you are doing it... that causes this loss of efficiency.
    2. What about leaving a complex selection of clips intact after an UNDO operation? (This costs me hundreds of minutes a week.) Like every other app in the world?
    Maybe  there is a better way !

  • Dear Adobe Premiere...

    Dear Adobe Premiere. I tried to update my Adobe Premiere Elements 9 several times without success, always getting a dead-end message. However, what worked perfectly is yourself adding stupid unwanted PE12 sliding publicities on my PE9 welcome screen. Thank you for that, real useful...

    lerochka
    This is not Adobe. Just user to user.
    How are you trying to update your Premiere Elements 9....do you mean to the 9.0.1 Update via Help Menu/Update or something else?
    If you have not been able to update to 9.0.1 via Help Menu/Update, the do the update from an online download from Adobe (Premiere Elements 9
    does not have to be opened during the online download and install).
    What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 9 running on?
    For Windows....Adobe - Premiere Elements : For Windows : Premiere Elements 9.0.1 update
    For Mac....http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4930
    Your comments are wasted here about the Welcome Screen Adobe announcements. If you want to bypass the Premiere Elements 9 Welcome Screen, then use the Adobe Premiere Elements.exe file to open the program instead of the Adobe Premiere Elements 9.exe file. Let us know if you need help in getting the shortcut to the desktop.
    If you are having issues with Premiere Elements 9 workflows, we would be glad for the opportunity to help you to try to resolve them.

  • Dear Adobe - Please add the following...

    Flash CS4 was a nice upgrade.
    One thing you forgot to build into it (something I have always dreamed of) is framerate/timeline updating. An example: Let's say you have an old file your updating. As part of that update you want to change the framerate from 12 to 30. When you change the framerate, everything on the timeline stays the same. I work in the e-learning business. I have narration on my timeline with timed animations. When you change from 12 to 30 fps, you have to keep in mind this extends any existing narration and animations that goes with it. Unfortunately Flash does not automatically update this for you.
    So after the FPS change, I now have to physically extend the timeline out until my narration reaches it's ending point. If there are animations (or even actionscripted keyframes) that are timed up with that narration (in most cases there are), I then have to scroll back through the timeline, grab those animated key frames, and move them to the spot where it matches with the narration. And listening to narration over and over sucks for the most part.
    Imagine having to do this to 300 files... or even 1000+ files. If Flash were capable of updating the timeline according to any changes in the framerate (FPS), I would save me, and many more people, hours and even days of painstaking, tedious, methodical work.
    Dear Adobe. On the next Flash upgrade could you please make my dreams come true.
    Sincerely,
    Jon

    We do watch the forums, at least I do (and I know I'm not the only one). I can't read everything, but I do watch for and read threads where I might be able to help about my feature, if it's a bug, or it's an enhancement request. (as such, clear subject lines are important!)  That said, the wishform linked previously is the best place to send such requests and bug reports because you can know for certain someone is monitoring everything that's sent in. It's more reliable than forums that are a mix of everything as it's specifically for bugs and enhancement requests.
    And regarding this particular request about the Timeline, it is something already filed in our bugbase, discussed with a developer, and hopefully something we can offer in the future.
    Thanks!
    Jen.

  • Dear Adobe, If you are REALLY smart.........

    Dear Adobe,
    Now I'm no coder and maybe I'm totally wrong here, but it
    seems to me that fixing the annoying existing bugs in FH MX could
    be done with minimal trouble or resources. Make sure it ran well in
    Rosetta and I'd bet thousands of us would jump for joy!
    Then, if you took that just one step further, and made FH
    Universal Binary......(Heck, I don't even need any new
    features!).....I for one would have absolutely no problem with
    paying you a nice upgrade fee. How much would you want? $99 ?, $199
    ?.....I'd gladly even pay full price for this... In fact, I'd pay
    you full price if you just fixed the bugs and made it fully Rosetta
    compatible!........that's how much Freehand means to me!!!!!!
    If other FH users feel as I do on this, and I'm sure there
    are more than a few, this sure seems like a pretty smart business
    move for Abobe. Again, I guess this all depends on how much
    resourses would be required, but I think it would be foolish to not
    look at it.

    There are probably a lot of factors going on into what Adobe
    decides to
    do. First is do they want to risk alienating tons of Freehand
    users by
    just dropping Freehand cold or spend the money to update the
    program? Do
    they want to try and force Freehand users to migrate to
    Illustrator or
    try and persuade them to change? And if, as I read in one
    interview, it
    takes a few years to integrate Freehand technology into
    Illustrator what
    does Adobe do in the meantime?
    I have heard that several large users of Freehand are working
    with Adobe
    to integrate Freehand advantages into Illustrator before they
    switch
    sometime next year so maybe it won't take as long as I had
    heard. Though
    the disturbing part is that the Adobe people they were
    talking to had no
    idea of the areas where Freehand works better than
    Illustrator (or where
    Illustrator has no equivalence.)

  • Dear Adobe:  We need more "Data Centric" examples and videos

    Many of my data centric questions are unanswered (for days now).  This tells me that no one in the community knows the answers, which is probably because FlashBuilder 4 and using it against a ColdFusionBuilder 1 server are still so "new".  My customers are not impressed with bandwith sucking flashing, flipping, popping, spinning effects, with help hints. That's "kid stuff".  They only want and care about lightning fast response time, tons of data at their fingertips, and reliability.  They'll add their own images and suffer the bandwidth downside if they choose, but that's up to them.  The things I need to know how to do are very very simple:
    1) Fetch data, into a grid or form (nailed, thanks for the video and examples)
    2) Commit data  changed in the form or grid back to the DB (Not answered)
    3) Create a new record from within the form or grid  (Huh? No video or examples)
    4) Create new form popup windows based on a record selected in a grid (Got it, working good)
    5) Refresh a row in a grid without mucking around with the user's selected row or indexed column (How? Unknown)
    6) Delete a record in a form or a grid and commit the delete to the back end (Again, unknown)
    Basically I need to know CRUD.  Create, Retrieve, Update, Delete
    I'm really struggling with getting the answers to these simple questions. The helps are GREATLY DETAILED but the other side of that same coin is that they give me information overload explaining all the things that CAN be done, when I just need to know the CRUD basics.  Please make some more videos showing CRUD.  FlashBuilder and ColdFusionBuilder are going to be serious candidates for massive data handling only if we can get developers onto this product quickly.
    Massive Data Handling = 200 Tables, 200 fields in each table, 200 indexes, 500 constraints, one third of a billion records total in all tables, and I want to find a specific 4 records, in no more than 4 mouse clicks, and response time of 2 seconds or less.
    Unless I'm being unreasonable, and Adobe products are not the way I should go to achieve these goals.

    Hi Mayank,
    These instructions look fantastic.  They cover the stuff I need to know how to do.   I appreciate your efforts VERY MUCH and am following along dilegently.  I'm trying to transpose your very good and detailed instructions into my own project.   I'm stuck on the following line:
    In your example:
    productService.serviceControl.autoCommit = false;
    I'm transposing it to my project, which should read:
    baa_data_svc.serviceControl.autoCommit = false;
    Because I have a <Declarations> tag of:
        <fx:Declarations>
            <valueObjects:BAA_SBJ id="bAA_SBJ"/>
            <s:CallResponder id="getSBJsResult"/>
            <baa_data_svc:Baa_data_svc
                id="baa_data_svc"
                fault="Alert.show(event.fault.faultString + '\n' + event.fault.faultDetail)"
                showBusyCursor="true"/>
        </fx:Declarations>
    When I try to run the project, I get the following error:
    Error: Cannot assign operations into an RPC Service (autoCommit)
    I have tried including and excluding the import:
    import mx.rpc.events.ResultEvent;
    but it makes no difference.
    What am I doing wrong?  I need the autoCommit to be shut off, just like in your example.
    Thanks for your kind help in this matter.

  • I am really touched to see Air 2.6... but dear Adobe...

    Question #1
    This 2.6 brought so many amazing features into packager, it will be really cool if Adobe can hint about it earlier! Can Adobe shares with all the fans what are their roadmaps or priorities when they are improving the product? No obligation, we wont blame Adobe if the team delayed it, some hints on what the Adobe team is working on in the next version can save many lives. Is this a mission impossible?
    For example, is Adobe working on native video player support? Or the team has met obstacles so that it is technically not feasible? Dun be shy to tell us -_-
    Question #2
    I have stopped monitoring this forum for quite awhile, but i remember when i was relatively active here, official responses in this forum is almost negligible - actually i cant remember i see any staff response. In contrast, when i joined the Adobe Digital Publishing Tool forum, staff responses is EVERYWHERE, questions are answered there... overhere it looks like a bunch of fans holding each other's hand and trying to save each other...  my question is, should there be an official voice here?
    hellloo..... any staff hear me me me me me (echo...............).

    I agree on both of Terrence's points.  No doubt, there are some seriously helpful people in these forums (Colin especially), but we're collectively navigating a jungle.  It feels like Adobe's putting in the effort to make AIR/Android-/iOS-deployment work well, but if us devs have so much trouble figuring out all the large-scale and small-scale mechanics, it's (a) frustrating, and (b) time-consuming, and (c) giving me the feeling that I am missing a lot of possibilities / best practices.
    At the very least, could Adobe please dedicate a half a day a week of an employee's time to charge through here and answer the big headaches?
    I'd love to know if native video support is on the roadmap.  It'd be great to switch my answer to clients / employer from "I can't make the video perform anywhere near as well as a native Obj-C program" to "it looks like that may be solved in the near future."  I'm getting a lot of pressure to drop Flash because it's "not as good," though personally I believe the platform will get there and continue to be the best choice for multiscreen deployment.
    It's great to read blog posts after you come out with something, but.. the more we know what's ahead, the better we can plan.  (how about WebOS?  Any intention there?)

  • Dear Adobe - When will LR5 support Nikon D7200

    As I followed the 'help' section of the product I pay you $10/month for, and this is the place you sent me to, and no other way to to contact the company that I pay $10/month to....
    When will D7200 from Nikon RAW format be supported.
    Once again, though I read on other threads that Adobe does not read these, the Adobe CONTACT US links send me here!!!!

    Bob / Adobe if your reading
    First , I feel I am getting good service from Adobe, as they turned around a version that supported my new camera with a new format in about a month and that was good.
    What do I expect?
    $10/ Month = $120/year, or $240 over the last 2 years..... AND if you read the small print it is actually $120, payed over 12 months, you MUST PAY the FULL $120 each year, it is not just $10.
    Unfortunately I expect as little as they can provide and keep me as a customer. That is the new model, right? Not customer first, but rather a service model like Comcast. Until customer leave you, no need to improve service. Keep churn (number of customer leaving, verse joining) to a reasonable level, and ARPU (average revenue per user) will remain.
    Do I need direct support? Well not if the community support helps first, no. If it does not, then yes, I think I do.
    Not a flame of you, but rather in the world of software developers bringing new products to market quick, the competition is rising, and to create customer loyalty and continue the $10/month should be of interest to Adobe, or their churn will increase. If I made money from my pictures, $10 would be peanuts, I do not, and $120/year to index, publish and edit is always under scrutiny.
    I am looking at open source alternative to PS LR CC when my contract is up (much like I review my Cell plan) to unlock me from the must pay to play. I will PROBABLY stay, as the value of the software with the support level out weighs the lack of features with better support in open source.... I will PROBABLY stay with CC verse perpetual licensing to get new features as the arrive, even though I use less than 20% of what is there now.
    just my 2 cents...

  • Dear Adobe, Apache 2.2 was released 10 years ago now. When will mod_f4fhttp.so get a module for 2.4 ?

    Subject says it all, question is: will there ever be an update ?

    Mr. Jones,
    You are a real lifesaver!!!
    It worked on the Mac.  Will have to do some searches to find the same on the PC since the same is happening.
    Do you happen to know why Adobe is saying they are not compatible with Office 2011 now?  I found a link on the Adobe webite along those lines yesterday, but was not able to find it this morning to insert into this post.
    Our CEO had a real meltdown at about 2am the other morning when trying to pdf something for a meeting the next day.  Was not very pretty.
    THANK YOU!!!
