  • Does The Apple USB Modem Work With The Mac mini ??????

Just wanted to know if anyone has successfully used the new Apple USB Modem with the Mac mini, is it compatable ????
Thank you for your input on this.
    Mike D.

It says it works with the Mac mini, but does it really? I just received my modem yesterday and could not get it to work with my 1.42 mini - the more expensive one that comes without a dialup modem! I looked carefully at the specs and it appears the Apple USB modem requires Mac OS 10.4.3, not the 10.4.2 that comes with the Mac mini.
Talk about stupid! And the mini docs say it comes with the "latest" version of Tiger. Not! So I can download the upgrade, I guess. IF I could get on the internet! This is extremely annoying. I guess I'll have to download the upgrade on another computer and transfer it somehow. Boy, those Apple guys sure are tech geniuses, aren't they???

  • Does Apple USB modem (or any USB modem) work with Telix under Boot Camp?

I know, it's one heck of an obscure and specific question. But it just so happens to be critical to whether I try and use an Intel Mac (new, with Leopard, under Boot Camp) as a PC (where a PC would be a lot easier as far as having a built-in 56k modem goes). By Telix I mean the most "recent" version of Telix for Windows. Thanks in advance for the assistance.

  • Please make MP Navigator EX work with MX922

I had an MX895 until earlier this week until it started to tell me that the wrong print head was installed. I have been so pleased with the MX895 that I immediately "upgraded" to the MX922. Not only is this printer missing a sheet feeder (and the second paper tray is too small for A4 paper), the software solution is appalling. I receive around 10-20 mail items each day, which results in anywhere between 10 and 50 pages. I put the documents in the ADF and MP Navigator EX scans them all while I am busy with other work. I then have my 50 thumbnails on the screen. I tick (for example) 1,2,3 and 4, and save it as a PDF. I then tick 5, and save it as a PDF, and so on..... This means that the entire job takes around 10 mins to complete. Scanning 50 separate pages will take over an hour, and even scanning the 10-20 mail items individually will take a lot longer than scanning the entire stack of post together. Does anyone have any suggestions of how to get MP Navigator EX to work with the MX920 series? Perhaps a registry hack or something? Otherwise, does anyone know of any alternative software that can: - Scan a large number of pages and show as thumbnails- Save batches of the pages as single pdf files (not ALL of the scanned documents, but only those selected), each with their selected file names- Auto rotate (essential) and doc fix (nice to have) the scans- Save as a searchable pdf I have found that I can do all of this with a combination of about four different software applications, but it will take nearly as long as scanning each document individually. I really hope someone can help with this, as I am extremely disappointed with Canon and am looking at tracking down a second hand MX895, just to be able to use the software, which seems ridiculous. Thank you for your help.

Hi Jamie Yes, I have, in fact! I'll use this as an opportunity to rant about how disppointed I am in Canon. It is clear from both the US and UK forums that many users have missed MP Navigator EX. These are all loyal Canon users who have upgraded their printers to newer models and assumed that Canon wouldn't have downgraded the software in the meantime.   Users have asked why the software doesn't work, whether it can be made to work and have begged for Canon to implement it. The response has never been any more helpful than "It doesn't support the Canon MX922," which has left many users high and dry. The "support" forum is also a farce. You will see that I posted three requests above, none of which were answered. It seems that the forum system is used so that Canon can pick and choose which technical support problems they actually answer, ignoring those that might raise a bit of a contentious issue. Users would like to know WHY the excellent software was left out of the latest printers/scanners. Is it being completely redeveloped? Is there a genuine technical reason why the software couldn't work with the MX922? Or (most likely) was one of the components in the software too expensive and was removed in a cost-cutting exercise? Rant over. Yes, it took many hours and I tested about 10 different scanning / pdf apps and finally found Foxit PhantomPDF. It's not free - about $90 after the first month. It crashes a lot and the English used in the help pages / dialog boxes is a bit "special" . I appreciate that $90 is a lot of money, but it was essential for my business, as Canon left me up a creek without a paddle. I will recoup this extra cost by never using a genuine Canon ink cartridge again in my life. If Canon can't support its users then we shouldn't feel the need to support its consumables. Sorry, I'm ranting again. It is a bit fiddly to get to work with the scanner in the first place. You need to enable the TWAIN driver and scan using the "Convert from scanner" option in the menu, Do'nt try to configure the scanner from the PhantomPDF software. I tried for ages, and it loses your saved settings every time it upgrades. Just choose scan and let it open the TWAIN / ScanGear window. I get best results using the presets in Basic mode (Document (Greyscale) ADF Duplex) etc., rather than tweaking the settings in advanced mode. The software will scan all of your documents into one big pdf. Save the big document as you will lose all of your scans if the software crashes. The silver lining is that, once it is working, it is much better than MP Navigator EX. Using the 'Organise' tab, you can drag and drop the pages of the document into any order you wish. You can "Extract" pages into new documents and save each document as a separate file. The OCR is excellent - it recognises far more text than the MP Nav software although it is much slower. You can set it to OCR as it scans, or select the pages to OCR once it's scanned. Funnily enough, I've barely used the PhantomPDF for its real pupose - as a PDF editor. It's very useful for highlighting paragraphs and adding notes. It's also got a PDF virtual printer which is the first that I've found that allows me to print password-protected PDFs to an unprotected PDF file, which is essential for my work. As it's not Adobe or Microsoft (or Canon, for that matter), support for registered users is via a support ticket system, giving a personalised response within a couple of days. There is the occasional misunderstanding, as English doesn't appear to be their first language, but we managed to resolve my initial setup problems. Sorry for the long response but I hope you find this useful. Nick

  • How to make Microsoft Office 2004 work with Lion 10.7.5

I just upgraded my iMac with Lion and now have OS 10.7.5, and now I have a message that "You can't open the application Microsoft Word because PowerPC applications are no longer supported."  However, I run Microsoft Word 2008 for Mac on my PowerBook Pro--is it possible to do something to the 2004 edition to make it work with the upgrade?  Or do I have to buy a new Microsoft office program?

Thanks--that's what I was afraid of.
I found the other versions of this question AFTER I posted mine--silly of me...and nice of you not to point it out.
I will look at OpenOffice but I dislike iWork so will likely get the new Microsoft version.

  • Dear Apple please make up for mistake and listen to consumers!

This is the year 2014. Been waiting so long for the mac mini 2014 only to find out its outdated before it even hit the store.
4K at 30hz is simply not enough for use as mediacenter or for all the new 4k monitors comming out 2015!
I am not going to buy it even I have been waiting for more than a year and allways said "take my money".
I Could live with soldered ram (even that it to me chipped that glass facade of apple even more) but lack of 4k does it for me.
My fear is that we have to wait for as long as last time before a refreshed mac mini that support 4k 60hz is out and so it is with regret that my money set aside for mac mini is going towards a surface pro 3 instead (hope this tablet will help me get away from the apple ecosystem).

Everybody misses the point in the first place.
Having a $500 dollar computer, or even a upgraded $500 to $900 computer, that essentially does the same thing as your $3,000 to $8,000 computers does not  make business sense.
    In a charity world, maybe.
It was to much bang for the buck, to little profit. That's why they stopped it. Killed it!
It's gone forever.  It was trial and error in the first place and found to be huge error.. It's surprising it went on as long as it did.
It will do nice basic editing and whatnot, an outstanding machine.
An exceptional and great value computer. A fantastic computer.
It will just no longer do $20,000 or $100,000 worth of complex compute work for $500.
I don't know how everybody has such a hard time figuring that out.
That $500 computer is a million dollar computer in many regards. Seriously!
    A million dollar computer.
    We are spoiled rotten!
We want it all for pennies.. and they are rotten for not giving it to us. Then we throw tantrums fighting for our free stuff.
They have taken our bottle away..

  • My Imac late 2012 running Yosemite does not recognise my Huawei 3g usb modem. itried to install Java bt still it does not although the same modem works with my MacBook pro . any help please

My Imac late 2012 running Yosemite does not recognise my Huawei 3g usb modem. itried to install Java bt still it does not although the same modem works with my MacBook pro . any help please

    Hey there mbarikiwa,
If your iMac still has not recognized the usb modem, I would use the troubleshooting for Yosemite USB issues in the following article:
OS X Yosemite: If a USB device isn’t working
If the device is connected to a USB hub:
Make sure the device and the hub are the same speed. Connect USB 3.0 SuperSpeed devices to a USB 3.0 SuperSpeed HUB, USB 2.0 Hi-Speed devices to a USB 2.0 Hi-Speed hub, and so on.
If the device doesn’t have a power cord and is plugged into another USB device that doesn’t have a power cord:
Try plugging the device directly into your computer’s USB port  or into a USB device that does have a power cord. You might need to disconnect and reconnect the other device as well, if it has stopped responding.
If you have many devices connected to your Mac:
Disconnect all USB devices except the device you’re testing, an Apple keyboard, and an Apple mouse. Make sure that the device is connected directly to the computer, and that any hubs or extension cables are disconnected. If you can use the device now, the problem may be with one of the other USB devices or hubs you had connected to your computer. Try reconnecting them, one by one, to your computer. When you find the device causing the problem, review its documentation for further troubleshooting steps.
Verify that the device appears in System Information:
Choose Apple menu > About This Mac. In the window that appears, click Overview, then click the System Report button to open System Information.
In the window that appears, see if the USB device is listed below Hardware in the Contents list. If the device appears but does not work, review the device’s documentation for further troubleshooting steps.
    Restart apps:
Quit and restart any apps that use the device.
    Restart your Mac:
    Choose Apple menu > Restart.
    Check your device’s USB connection
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

  • Apple, please make a iPhone friendly website. Thank you.

Apple, please make a iPhone friendly website. Thank you.

Exactly.  Which is what I was leading to.  Not sure why the OP is having issues with using apple.com on an iOS device.
I'm guessing he just doesn't like using a small screen.  But, since that's  publicly viewbale feature prior to purchasing an iPhone, so... yeah.

  • Apple please make this..... i am begging you...

Can you find a way to make some sort of portable smaller "ghettoblaster" or "boom box" like unit, that has an integrated air port in it, as well as an am/fm, and typical features, as well as kicking good sound. It would be perfect for taking out on the deck or balcony and using the existing airport network and play the music that is already playing in the house via iTunes. With the remote function on the iPhone it would be seamless. I already have about four air port express units in my place and do want the ability to go outside with out having to plug in both the radio/ipod speakers as well as the air port. It seems that it is one of those things that i thought was made already but the lady in the Apple store looked at me like a confused puppy. Apple please make this so i can add it to the already long slit of products I want.

  • Dear Apple – Please help me restoring my purched iTunes tracks on my ned laptop

Dear Apple – Please help me restoring my purched iTunes tracks on my ned laptop.
I've bougt some new songs and they just disappeared from my computer and my iphone. How do I get them back? Please help! I'm from Denmark - I don't know if that make any difference!?

You are not addressing anyone working for Apple here. We are all just users such as yourself.
Regretably, the iTunes in the Cloud service is not available for music in Denmark:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5085. You will not be able to re-download any music purchases. You'll need to restore from your local backup.
