Dear Firefox: It's official - I've divorced you

October 11, 2011
Dear Firefox:
It has been a long and, up until recently, a very happy marriage between you and me. However, your recent screw-ups have caused me to file for, and finalize, our divorce. This was done without your comment or consent, I understand; however, despite all my best efforts to penetrate your thick skull and reach you, you refused to respond. I believe my actions will be beneficial to both of us in the long run.
I suppose, now that I'm gone, you want to know "What happened? What did I do wrong?" Well, the first thing is that you failed to respond to repeated requests and statements that Firefox was becoming slow and bloated, not to mention a resource hog. Additionally, despite repeated pleas and requests for you to FIX IT, not a darn thing was done about Firefox constantly freezing, with no way to even close the window without resorting to the dreaded "ctrl+alt+del" to start task manager to shut you down and free up my system. Indeed, my fingers became fast friends with those keys in the past months. I almost know them better than I know my own name!
Now that it's over, I can hear the question you're dying to ask, so I'll ask it for you: "Is there someone else?" Why yes, Firefox, there is, and his name is Chrome. Oh, stop sniveling and crying; it makes you look like a baby instead of the supposedly grown-up browser that you should be. Unlike bloated-slow-memory-hog YOU, Chrome is sleek, and fast and - - well, all I can say is WOW - - because my system memory use remains low, and I have not had ONE browser/system freeze in the week since my secret marriage to Chrome.
I know, I know ... you plan to bad-mouth me behind my back, and try to make all my friends believe that the reason behind our breakup is all *my* fault - - when, in reality, you KNOW that I had nothing to do with it, and the fault lies in your refusal to listen to reason.
So, Firefox, it is goodbye. No, don't try to stop me; I've made up my mind, once and for all.
And, in the immortal words of Rhett Butler: "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn!"

Best of luck in your future relationships and endeavors,
Suz

Dell and beautiful in the same sentence?!?
In all seriousness, I use a 23" Cinema - now that's a beautiful display - and an older 15" HP LCD monitor (1024x768 resolution) from a PC that died recently (hehe).
If I had to do it all over again, I'd simply buy a single 30" monitor. Two monitors are nice with FCP and Color (the real estate is used effectively) but Motion, LiveType and Soundtrack Pro do not have dual monitor configurations. DVDSP does, but it's absolutely worthless (just the Palette and Inspector windows on the second screen). I know the idea of a 30" is polarizing, but considering how much space Soundtrack Pro and Motion like, it would be nice. And FCP is nice with a 30" too.
Um, sorry, got off on a tangent.
Unless you're doing hardcore work in Color - which really utilizes two widescreen monitors, I'd argue that, in a dual monitor FCS configuration, the second monitor does not have to be a widescreen one. For FCP, it'll basically house your Browser, which I always keep in List mode, so having a widescreen monitor makes little sense. If you're a Large Icon View person - or, considering you're an FCP rookie, if you become a Large Icon View person - maybe it might be worth it.
But I'd wait to get your machine, then give yourself some time to play with all the apps and see what you think will work best for you...

• I just started using firefox version 26 official. I noticed that after downloading one exe file firefox did not security scan. Earlier version always did.

I just started using Firefox version 26 official today. I noticed that after downloading any file Firefox is not performing security scan. Earlier version always did. Does FF26 do security scan at the time of downloading itself? or security scan has been removed from the Firefox 26? i like the new UI of Firefox but i am security conscious.

You can check the <b>browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone</b> pref on the <b>about:config</b> page and if necessary reset this pref via the right-click context menu to the default value.

I want to ask something about firefox.
why firefox use very much memory?
can you develop to reduce memory comsume?
this problem is very distrub in my PC with low memory.
== This happened ==
Every time Firefox opened

How much memory is Firefox using right now?
# Press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC to load the Task Manager window
# Click the Processes tab at the top. (Click once near the top of the window if you don't see tab
# Find firefox.exe, and see how many kilobytes of memory it's using.
Showing around 80MB when Firefox first starts is normal. Right now, I have 75 tabs open and it's using 500MB - this varies a lot depending on what you have in the tabs.
Other than high memory usage, what other problems are you experiencing? (Examples include slowness, high CPU usage, and failure to load certain sites)
Many of these issues, including high memory usage, can be caused by misbehaving add-ons. To see if this is the case, try the steps at Troubleshooting extensions and themes. Outdated plugins are another cause of this issue - you can check for this at http://www.mozilla.com/plugincheck

• I copied this from your 5.0 download information: "All of the App Tabs you have set when you close Firefox will open as App Tabs when you start Firefox again." When I opened my computer today all my apptabs from yesterday had disappeared. Why?

Your download page for 5.0 stated: All of the App Tabs you have set when you close Firefox will open as App Tabs when you start Firefox again.
I liked the convenience of using App Tabs and was disappointed to find that the ones I had set up yesterday were gone today. Am I doing something wrong?

Works fine for me, I can simulate your problem by improperly closing Firefox.
The correct way would be to close the windows you don't want and then to exit Firefox through the File ("Alt+F") menu then use Exit or Quit depending on your system.
But I can simulate your problem by closing the good window with "X" in the upper right-corner first (the one with the app-tabs) and then close the other window by any means.
You restart Firefox and open a window, since you closed without app-tabs there are none so you just see a window with your home page.
Firefox has some things added to Firefox 4 and therefore in Firefox 5.
# "Alt+S" (History menu)
# "Restore Previous Session" (that's the window without the app-tabs, but you have to this first)
# "Restore Recently Closed Windows" -- can choose which window to reopen based on name and the mouse-over tells how many tabs. or you just use "Restore All Windows" without the guessing.
I know you are on a Mac, and this affects Windows user more than anybody else, but it does affect other systems besides Windows, occasionally, perhaps more often now with the plugins container.
The following may not completely eliminate having to terminate Firefox through the Windows Control Panel but it will come very close.
Plug-in and tasks started by Firefox may continue after attempting
to close Firefox The "X" in the upper right-hand corner closes the
Window (same as Ctrl+Shift+W) but even if it is the last Firefox window,
it does not necessarily close Firefox .
The only proper way to exit Firefox is to use Exit through the
File menu, not the "X" in the upper right corner of last Firefox window.
In the Firefox 4 and 5 that would be Alt+F then X

Use the Windows Task Manger to remove all running firefox.exe in the "Processes" tab of the Windows Task Manager, then restart Firefox.
If Firefox will still not start, remove the parent.lock file from the profile which is created each time Firefox is started to prevent other Firefox tasks from running, see<br>

:Use to close and restart Firefox after enabling or disabling an extension, switching to a new theme, or modifying configuration files, then you don't have to worry about delay or have to look in the Task Manager to see if Firefox is closed yet.
Both extensions use the same keyboard shortcut "Ctrl+Alt+R" or a file menu option.

Try running Firefox in Safe Mode. If it functions properly in that configuration, then one of your add-ons is the culprit.

Mozilla, like many other software companies, thoroughly test their software before releasing it to the public and I'm sure that no problem you are having is intentional.
I do not work for Mozilla but I do have experience of releasing software for public usage.
Firefox has no way of knowing what other software is already on your computer and with millions of combinations it isn't always possible to test for every scenario.
You can go back to the old version of Firefox but that won't always solve your problem.

• I hit the firefox button and nothing happens. Since you don't have a repair function, can I save the bookmarks before I reinstall the program?

see above

Hi,
Sorry you are having problems.
A clean reinstall will not remove bookmarks unless you take options to remove data or deliberately remove your profile.
You may and it could be prudent to back up your Firefox profile before doing the reinstall. At least look for and backup the data base file places.sqlite . Try Firefox's safe mode; for instance by holding shift key when you click the icon, before considering reinstalling.

Please report back to say if this helped; what you tried, and whether you need more help.
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
#*Windows:
#**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
#**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Installing Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found here.
<b>WARNING:</b>Do not use a third party uninstaller as part of this process. Doing so could permanently delete your Firefox profile data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. <u>These cannot be easily recovered </u> See Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles. [Fx31] Windows uninstaller will no longer <!-- Starting in Firefox 31, the Firefox uninstaller no longer lets you remove user profile data.Ref: Bug 432017 and https://support.mozilla.org/kb/uninstall-firefox-from-your-computer/discuss/5279offer the option to remove personal data -->

Firefox is just a browser. The problem may be with the web site.
