the store refuses to take it back..  stating that it is the MANUFACTURER'S PROBLEM.  hence im out of a lot of hard earned money that MSI STOLE.  Now dont get me wrong I am not acting like this due to a spur of the moment thing.   you can look back in the forums where i diligently tried to get some sort of fix for this.  look at the time frames.  I am receiving NO SUPPORT whatso ever from MSI.
I am a calm and intelligent man. However enough is enough.  I bought a card which was falsely advertised.
tv-out does not work on a geforce4 mx 440 vtp.
MSI wont help my card vender wont help. No one in these forums can help.

You know richard, I am sorry things had to come down to this.  But you must understand thats all im asking for..... is some help....
no one has bothered to help me or others like me other than to say well go buy tvtool..   thing is i shouldnt have too.  
I have just spent like 6 hours straight today on this card trying to get it to work.  Im frustrated and very angry. For this I apologize.  Im the little guy in this thing. Whats a man to do when everyone around him says "its not my problem"
Once again im sorry for my outburst.  Im just surprised I dont see more of them on this forum regarding this specific card.
And thank you, I would appreciate ANY help you can offer.  I dont care about the time difference. I just need some help.

    i checked the athlon recommended motherboards a while back for the 2200xp's.  the board meets qualification according to amd (then), but it used to say for bios 2.6.  now after not able to boot up at all with the 2200 i replaced my 1600 in there and did a look back.  it says that bios 2.7 is what is needed.  i was wondering if it is possible to be sent a beta bios?  i will comply with certain agreements if need be.  please, give me a reply to my msn account [email protected]  this way i can give you my preferred address for easier transfer and communication.  tia
    note bios 2.6 max mult is 12.5 needed is 13.5.

    thanks i did when i got in from work, but no go at all.  diag lights all red and no post.  i checked the bios multipliers before i did it anyway and it only went up to 12.5.  anyone have any knowledge as to why they say bios 2.7 is needed and i have it but it is not capable to run that multiplier?

    The 'IceChip' VGA and chipset coling kit came today and I replaced the noisy MSI fan with the one in this kit and it is quiet again.  )
    One thing though that is different is that the MSI fan had three wires (black, red, blue) and the new fan has just two wires (black, red). Is the blue lead for fan RPM or something?
    Now if I can cure all the other problems so that this thing will boot, shut down and not lock up while on the internet. X(

  • A QUESTION FOR DEATHSTALKER

    I posted here because I thought you would know the answer to this; What is the difference in the 6172 model# pcb and the 6590 Model# pcb. I know all the obvious differences but the 6172 was the 1st board that MSI listed as having333fsb support. Was this because of some difference in the boards themselves, such as stronger circuits to help with 333fsb support, or am I way off base here, and it was just because MSI wanted to cover all the bases.? Quite a few of us wondering about this ,a reply would be appreciated BIGDADDY51 CT USA

    Hi Richard.
    I have a question for you about the MSI K7N2G-LISR (NVIDIA nForce2 IGP) motherboard we were discussing.
    If this board has integrated graphics, why do I need a video card? I had someone else ask me the same thing but I didn't know the answer.

    Hi Mike, I not sure if I should step in and put in this reply, but couldn't stop myself not to as this is quite important.
    Mobos that comes with on board/integrated/shared Memory Graphics usually dun ends up giving you good framerates and graphics details. I have a friend who spent Sin 2000 over dollars to D.I.Y a creative slix look alike com with on board graphics has regretted not getting a proper mobo with AGP slot. The graphics that are produced on his com are like running a TNT2 Riva 32MB card for games like warcraft 3 and any latest 1st person shooting games... juz imagining it...
    I'm the type of person who are more for graphics and smoothness of gameplays and details of model as I do some 3D designs and picture designing. I juz dun understand why there are still people going for onboard graphics and complaining about poor fps produced which they should have blame themselves for it X( ... It's good that you've pointed out your doubts on that...

  • Another attention: Deathstalker

    I wanted to goof around with running my nforce board on win 98SE. I had downloaded the latest drivers for 98SE from MSI's download page. But when I went to install them, it said that they were only for win ME and exited the install prog.. I double checked to make sure that I had clicked on the proper spot for the proper drivers and I had.. I went to the nVidia website and grabd the drivers from there... you might want to tell MSI something is fishy with their link.
     Has anyone else messed with running their nforce board on 98 lately, I look around the fourm here but didn't see any mention of it.. I had done this all on a fresh install of 98se last night,, other than the fact I have no speakers hookd up every things seems to run just fine..... I had set up one other nforce board in a freinds comp, had started with 98 when there was no driver support and had to switch to XP Pro... I think I like the way mine is running at the moment, seems snapy'r, even with running an Duron 800, compaird to my freinds running a 1ghz duron and XP.
    One last question, what exactly is the Clock Spread  Spectrum,,,, what I have seen in the manual, it seems vauge... what is its purpose?

  • NMP 12 core D700s failing to initialize thunderbolt bus 0 if the hdmi cable is plugged in

    Hey Everyone,
    I have a new Mac Pro, 12 core model with D700s, 32 GB RAM.  I started having issues about a month ago after only owning it for one month.  I noticed that sometimes when I booted up, some of my thunderbolt buses were not initializing.  I rechecked the literature to make sure (and correct me if i'm wrong), but you can have one thunderbolt device plugged in bus 0 (the bottom two ports) and still use hdmi.  I use the HDMI for my desktop on various monitors and have multiple devices that I need to connect over thunderbolt.  I was able to narrow it down and isolate the HDMI plug as being the culprit.  If i attach a display port to hdmi adapter to either of the bottom t-bolt ports, it boots up and initializes bus 0.  Any time I have an HDMI plugged in, its about 50/50 on if it will initialize bus 0.  When this happens, multiple restarts appear to catch it.  Since I work in a job where I might have to power down and relocate multiple times, this has been problematic.  Any one else seeing this or getting this?

I downloaded the version from my mobo support page. it seems to have not failed me this time. though in the future, though I seem to have lucked out this time, I will try m-flash or bios + me. I mean I think I lucked out. I am by no means an expert, but my computer booted, so I assume the update was a success?
    Updating the bios didn't solve my problem though. any ideas?

  • K7N2 Delta Overheating

    I have the K7N2 Delta board (rest of system specs are in sig) and after about 45mins-1 hour of gaming, my system locks up and resets.  After lock up, if i go into bios, my sys temps usually read about 59-64 degrees celcuis.  I was having this problem with the stock fan/hs, so i bought the Volcano 12, figuring that would solve the problem.  Didn't, only gave me about 1hr-1 1/2 hours before lock up at lowest RPM setting (2100), and only about 10-15 mins longer at highest RPM setting (about 5600).  I have the same problem when I run 3d 2003 test, it goes through the first set of tests fine, but when I get to the first CPU test, my system locks.  
    My idle temps on the CPU are about 45-52 degrees celcius, case temp is in about 38 celcius.  I read in other posts that it could be due to TOO MUCH thermal goo on the chip, but how do I know how much is too much?
    Aside from overheating, what else might it be?
    If I leave my system idle, it can go for days with no hint of a problem.  It's only when I start gaming (America's Army, UT 2k4 demo, BF1942) that I get problems.
    Also, I ran memtest, RAM is fine.

    Wonkanoby:  Ya, I know I need new RAM, but I'm on an incredibly tight budget now, so it's gonna be a while till I can afford some (basically, I haven't had a job in 8mths).
    DeathStalker:  I tired what you said, opened up the side of my case, put a Vornado house fan on high speed facing my mobo, and the temps did drop quite a bit (with HS/fan @5600 RPM and idle CPU=41celcius, Sys=28celcius.  @2100RPM and idle CPU=44celcius, Sys=34celcius).  I decided to run the 3dMark2003 this way, with HS/fan @5600 RPMs, and I got through the first CPU test, but then they system crashed again.
    So it seems that the extra cooling helped, but still wasn't enough.
    Any suggestions on how to cool my system with out putting a house fan in there?  I already have 3 80mm fans (1 front bottom intake.  1 top exhaust, 1 rear exhaust).  I have room for 2 more 80mm fans (1 front bottom intake, 1 rear exhaust), but I don't think that would help cool the CPU all that much, would it?  I thought the TT Volcano 12 would help with cooling a lot, but it has only provided marginal imporvements.
    Also, could it be that I am overstressing my RAM, and that is why I'm having these problems?
    Open to any suggestions.

  • K7N2 Delta ISLR lock-up sound

    Help!
    I just got a K7N2 Delta ISLR and installed it in my system. Over the course of a few painful days I've realized that system has a propensity to lock up after I load the sound drivers for the motherboard. If I don't do that the system is completely stable but of course I don't get sound. I get this problem even when I'm only using one hard drive with nothing else in the system.
    I've followed liquidsoul's NForce 2 Installation How To guide on www.AMDMB.com's forum but to no avail. Has anyone encountered this problem or know how to fix it?

    When I set up the PC originally I only had one hdd in it and I did not install the promise card (you have to install them later because I've found I need to flash the bios of the promise cards so that it will be recognized by windows XP) so I guess I did do the KISS principle (I've learnt my lesson the hard way before).
    That said I did the installation thing and everything looked fine. However, the lock-ups occur at no particular interval so after 3 hours and nothing wrong I installed most of the other hardware booted it up and it seemed good. But a day later the lock-ups started happening. Even removing the extra hdd and promise (btw I did put the promise card in PCI 3) card did not help (I went all the way back down to one hdd and still got the problems). I went through many reinstallations of Windows XP SP1 as well.
    During the process of elimination I even bought a nice OCZ Dual DDR EL Kit but that didn't help. Also, I changed from my 350W enermax to a new 450W enermax. Problem did not stop happening. I know the hard drive I was using is in good condition.
    In terms of drivers I tried the ones that came with it, 2.03, 2.45 and the realtek ones.
    After 7 days of painful elimination I'm leaning towards the problem being the board.

  • Memory Problem on KT4V-L

    I built a new computer with the following:
    MSI KT4V-L
    AthlonXP 2400+
    Sapphire Radeon 9600 256MB
    SimpleTech 256MB PC2100 DDR SDRAM (MC-DDR2100/256)
    It runs great, except for one issue. There's an error above around the 200MB level of memory. The nunmber changes every time I restart the computer, but it's now at the 210,407,424th byte (200.66MB) in memory.
    So, thinking the RAM was defective, I returned it to the retailer and got a new one. I put the RAM in and ran Norton Diagnostics. It's still there.
    I know it's not Norton Diag with a problem, because if my physical memory use goes over around 200MB, the computer will crash.
    The computer is not overclocked at all, stock heat sink/fan. All the temps are well within range, I even tested to make sure nothing is overheating.
    I don't have any other compatable RAM/computers to test with. Hopefully, the memory just isn't compatable or somehting. Any insights?

    Thanks Deathstalker, I was didn't know that the board names were based on MB chipset. I was thinking it was processor-based.
    My PSU is a Powerman 350W. The components I have are a CD-RW, a CD-ROM (That doesn't run - I need a larger cable. It's connected to the PSU, though.), my video card, my WinTV GO! card, and a cheap 56k modem. Hardly strainging it, I think. The video card doesn't even need the special power cable.
    Yes, I have tried a CMOS reset, it didn't change a thing.

  • [nForce]: Trouble Shooting Guide V1.6a

    Hello.
    Here is a guide to help solve some problems with K7N2 motherboards.
    Problems arise in systems because some components do not work as they should.
    Typical issues found with these boards consist of Non-nForce2 Approved RAM & a weak power supply. Other issues could be a cpu won't run at its rated fsb speed or an incorrectly mounted cpu cooler.
    Sound problems - too many or incorrectly placed metal standoffs, bad drivers.
    Windows won't install or you get a file read error - Incorrectly mounted CPU heat sink, RAM or power supply (PSU).
    I've listed some instructions below to help those users that need a basic comprehensive guide to troubleshoot their systems with. Please read through the entire guide prior to posting for help on the forum.
    Before you start doing anything, remove the power cord and make sure that you have touched the metal case of your system. This is called "Grounding yourself" and if you don't you could damage your system due to static discharge!

    1) BIOS/Startup POST reports wrong cpu or frequency
    Check if jumper j10 and j11 are set to safemode and also check fsb settings in bios. If the jumpers are set to safe mode set them to normal, this is found in your motherboard manual. The jumpers vary with motherboards and manufacturers.
    SafeMode sets cpu and memory to 100mhz.
    Both memory and cpu are double pumped.
    Data is clocked on the rise and fall of each clock cycle.
    That means that 100mhz real frequency is 200mhz virtual frequency.
    This is NOT without error and so your results may vary a little.
    Non-Delta supports all cpu up to fsb 333
    Delta supports all Socket A cpu
    Duron upto 1300MHz = 100MHz (=200DDR)
    Duron from 1400MHz = 133MHz (=266DDR)
    Athlon B type = 100MHz (=200DDR)
    Athlon C type = 133MHz (=266DDR)
    Athlon XP - C type = 133MHz (=266DDR)
    Athlon XP - D type = 166MHz (=333DDR)
    Athlon XP - E type = 200MHz (=400DDR)
    Support for new Duron 1400, 1600, 1800 with 266Mhz FSB (applebred)

    The best way to identify a processor is by using the OPN (Ordering Part Number) which can be found on the processor (E.g. AXDA 2700 D K V 3 D).

    2) Over temp CPU
    Is the Heat Sink and Fan rated for the CPU?
    The CPU Heat Sink could be mounted wrong! Carefully remove it and check it. It can and will fit 2 ways but ther is only 1 right way.  Examine the installation very carefully!
    The Heat Sink has a recessed edge that has to be installed over the ridge (higher part or bump) of the socket. If installed backwards then it won't cool the entire area of the processor 'die' and could cause it to burn, thus killing it, or give you trouble as outlined in this guide.
    Make sure that you use a QUALITY Thermal Compound/Paste and DO NOT reuse old compound! Note that some Heat Sinks are shipped with Thermal Pads, these are ok for some but will not give you the best heat transfer that a quality paste will.
    Below are three images, the first two are incorrect, the last is correct.
    Again..It is important to match the notch or step in the heatsink to the socket or it will not seat properly, causing immediate shutdowns, and ultimately damage your CPU.
    If you use too much Silver based Thermal Compund you risk shorting the bridges on the CPU. This could cause damage to the CPU itself so use sparingly! If you feel that you've used too much then clean the die and substrate (the brown or green fiberglass material that the die is mounted on) and re-apply. Orange Clean TM is excellent for cleaning any type of thermal compound from a processor. Isopropyl Alchohol is ok but may leave traces of silver on the substrate. Using a 10X eye loupe will ensure that no traces of silver are shorting any bridges together after cleaning. DO NOT clean your processor while it rests in its socket on the motherboard. You run the risk of cleaner mixed with compound and dirt settling into your socket and that will cause further problems.
    Last but not least. DO NOT use acetone to clean anything inside your PC. (or outside for that matter) It MAY not do any damage BUT it may dissolve some parts. Especially the coating on capacitors and resistors.
    Silverbased compounds are not recommended by most manufacturers and if any traces are detected by them from an RMA'd processor they will usually void the warranty!
    The latest AMD XP CPU's (XP-2000 and above) require a copperbased heatsink because their die are smaller and generate far more heat per square centimeter than the "old" CPU's did.
    a)How to check the Heat Sink before taking it off:
    There is a simple way to check the Heat Sink without taking it off. You do this by first checking your idle temp with SpeedFan or MBM, it should be below 50-55C.
    Download Prime95 and run torture test for about 10 minutes while monitoring the temps, after about 1 minute or so it should stabilize and your temp should have gone up about 10-15C (max).
    If it still goes up or the system crashes, there is a chance that you've mounted the heat sink incorrectly.
    If your system can't run this check, (i.e. freezes or crashes) try setting your  FSB to 100. Try to run the test again. If it still fails to run  it could well be that the heat sink is mounted wrong or your power supply doesn't have enough power.
    You cant check if the heatsink only has partial contact with the CPU die by looking on temperature monitor programs. The heatsink needs to be removed to see that.

    3) Power Supplies
    Most common cheap 300-350W power supply units (PSU for short) can't handle an XP-1700 or above, try a better one to be sure.
    Make sure your PSU has 200W combined on the +3.3v & +5V rails and that the +3.3V rail is rated for 20A (A = Amps or Amperage) or above. This should be enough for most systems.
    On the latest boards the +12V rail has become very important too, expecially with AMD ThunderBird & above CPU's. Make sure your PSU can supply 16A or more.
    Alway's make sure you have a decent PSU, it never fails to spend a bit more on that part!
    Borrow a bigger one from a friend if you are not sure.

    This is the bare minimum that you should see on a PSU running an AMD processor. Intel is a bit more forgiving in some cases but with the amount of devices we use these days this minimum is a good guidline:
    +3.3V - 28A or better
    +5V - 35A or better
    +12V - 16A or better
    Watch out!! Cheap PSU's like Q-Tec come nowhere near these figures!! Do NOT trust the 300W or 400W rating on them!!! Q-Tec is about the worst of them all!!
    4) Metal Stand-offs
    Sometimes we are all a bit careless when it comes to changing a motherboard and forget to look at the layout of the stand-offs (those little silver or brass pieces that the screws screw into to hold the motherboard in the case) that are left from the old motherboard. Some motherboards use more than others thus some overlook the 'extra' one and mount that new board and never know the difference. Until they try to start their new baby up!
    Remove the board and check for to see if you have too many of them by counting the holes or screws that you took out and then count the number of stand-offs you have in the case. Remove any uneeded stand-offs then remount your motherboard. Having 'extra's' can short out circuitry and cause all sorts of problems most of which are audio related.
    Here are what typical stand-offs look like:
    5) Sound
    Two types of audio chipsets are used in these boards:
    a) The -ILSR version uses Soundstorm and has drivers supplied from MSI or nVidia.
    b) The -L version uses RealTek sound and has drivers supplied by MSI and Realtek.
    There have been a lot of issues regarding the -L board and its drivers supplied by MSI. Realtek drivers seem to repair these issues and can be found here:

    6) RAM
    Most of the issues involving these boards have been memory related. For various reasons cheaper generic memory doesn't run with nForce2 chipsets well and you should get nForce2 Approved RAM. Here is a link to nVidia's compatibility list as well as a list of what has worked for some:

    It's not a good idea to try to run DDR266 RAM when you have a 333FSB CPU, get DDR333 ram of decent quality.
    If you think that you're having RAM issues then replace the ram with another brand to see if it fixes it or borrow some from a friend to check. Make sure it isn't cheap quality RAM or what you borrow isn't cheap quality. You can run to the local CompUSA (if you live in the USA that is) and buy some better quality RAM and return it later if you find that it isn't the problem.
    DDR ram speeds:
    Duron up to 1300/Athlon-B = 100FSB = PC-1600 = DDR200
    Duron from 1400 = 133FSB = PC-2100 = DDR266
    Athlon-C/XP up to 2600 = 133FSB = PC-2100 = DDR266
    Athlon XP D-type and above = 166FSB = PC-2700 = DDR333
    Athlon XP E-type and above = 200FSB = PC-3200 = DDR400
    Set Fsb / Dram Ratio to 1:1 that means that the memory is working at the same speed as the fsb does.
    Higher DDR speeds are only a must if you try to overclock. You can use faster RAM on a slower system and the motherboard bus will switch down in speed accordingly. The speeds given above are what should be used as a minimum, otherwise you're creating a serious bottleneck of data from the RAM.
    Use a decent RAM testing utility such as Memtest86 if you suspect RAM is faulty. Typical failures of RAM include but are not limited to:
    a) BSOD (Blue Screen of Death!)
    b) Data Corruption
    c) Machine won't cold boot
    Try your system always with 1 RAM module at a time to see if you have a bad module. Swap modules if you have more than 1 to see if one or the other is bad. When upgrading remeber that adding more modules can give you trouble too. Especially if you mix manufacturers. Some sticks just won't work in pairs and some fail when you put 3 or more in the system. When you want to use 3 sticks, make very sure you use the nVidia tested and approved modules, they are your best chance that they will work without problems.
    If still nothing try to seat the ram in another slot, sometimes they work better in another slot.

    7) BIOS
    Sometimes when we play with our BIOS settings and set something wrong in it or set something incompatible with our hardware this causes the motherboard to not boot up. Sometimes they come from the factory that way as well. If so then clear the CMOS and start with the default settings. If it works try setting ONLY A FEW SETTINGS at a time and nothing more! If it works then go further from there a couple of settings at a time.
    There are issues when changing VCORE and it gets stuck.
    There are 3 ways to work around this issue.
    1. Updating to the latest bios seems to fix it most of the time.
    2. Clear CMOS, change VCORE in the BIOS, save changes then reboot and it should be changed.
    3. Change VCORE in BIOS, save changes, turn off pc then disconnect PSU from wall outlet by either disconnecting the power cord or use the switch on the backside of the psu if there is one. Reconnect the power cord or turn the switch on again. Boot up the system, go into the BIOS and check under pc health to see if it has changed.
    For RAID boards only!!
    If you recieve a message at boot saying:
    No Hard disk/drive present...BIOS will not be installed...
    or something comparable, it means that there are no drives connected to the raid controllers and it's not installing the drivers needed to support the function of that particular device FROM BIOS ONLY! This is nothing to worry about and all of the other functions of your machine should work properly.
    Modded bios to fix problems when using multiplier 10 and 10.5 and also to be able to use a higher FSB than with the MSI bios.

    8) Clearing the CMOS chip
    Disconnect the system power cord and push the case power button to drain all remaining power in the psu for approximately 15 seconds
    Then move jumper jbat1 and wait 10 seconds and move it back to the original position. You should ensure that the jumper has metal inside of it when removed, sometimes (rarely) they don't. This process resets or clears the CMOS chip and is shown in most motherboard manuals.Now connect the power cord and restart your system.
    Some motherboards require that the battery must be removed for 20 minutes before putting the battery and jbat1 back for the CMOS chip to be cleared.
    ***Starting your K7N2 Delta2 at default settings***

    As some of you will be aware there is no safe mode jumper J10 on the K7N2 Delta2 series of boards. This has been replaced by the "insert" key method as used by Abit and Epox. To start your board at its default settings following an unsuccessful overclocking attempt you need to do the following using a ps2 keyboard. Turn off your machine and disconnect from the mains or turn off the switch on the back of the power supply. Press the front panel power switch several times to discharge any charge remaining in the power supply capacitors. Reconnect the power by plugging into wall socket or turning on psu power switch. Press and hold down "insert" on the keyboard and press the case front panel power switch. If you are successful it should start the cpu and memory at 100Mhz FSB. If it does press "delete" to reenter the bios to change your settings to known safe settings. Good luck.
    9) Harddisks
    If your hard drive is giving you problems:
    Western Digital (WD) drive's are jumpered somewhat strange compared to others:
    No jumper = Stand-Alone drive with no other drive attached to the cable.
    Jumper master = Use this setting on your main drive if you have a slave drive installed in your system.
    Jumper slave = Use this setting if you have a second hard drive installed in your system.
    Cable Select - the preferred jumper setting
    If your Hard Drive is doing weird things:
    Make sure you have connected the color-coded connectors to the color-coded connectors on the motherboard and connect the other END of the cable to the hard drive. The middle connector can be left unattached without problems if not needed.
    Not all motherboards have color-coded connectors.
    IBM harddisks seem to fail a lot, try Drive-Fitness-Test on it, see if it has problems.
    Run drive fitness test (DFT)
    Maxtor also has its own version of hard drive check for their drives and is available from their website.
    Any brand of hard drive can have problems so check the manufacturer website to see if there is a testing utility to use to make sure they are ok. Hard drive failures can cause some of the strangest problems with computers and should be checked via the Event Viewer of your Operating System or using the mfg's utility. Sometimes the Event Viewer will give you clues that you have bad sectors leading you to a potential hard drive failure. You could also find IDE/SCSI controllers that are suspect by looking there as well. Win9x and ME DO NOT have Event Viewers.
    Alway's be sure your harddisk is in tip-top shape! If you suspect that it's not, replace it to verify.

    Harddisk/power LED not functioning:
    If your Hard Drive or Power LED doesn't work try turning the plug around on the motherboard connector. Some manufacturers don't mark or wire the LED cables properly and the LEDs will only work when + and - is correct.
    Hard drive LEDs do not work with SATA drives but O&O Drive LED opens a little window and there you can see when a harddrive or cd is accessed. Works on both ide and sata drives.
    10) Floppy Drives
    If your floppy drive doesn't work or the LED stays on all of the time make sure the floppy is set correctly in the BIOS because the BIOS doesn't autodetect a floppy drive.
    Check the cable making sure that the twist in the cable is at the floppy-drive side and flip the connector at the around. If it stays on after that or you still can't read a floppy disk try another drive or a different manufaturer type drive.
    11) USB Ports
    USB 2.0 ports are supported ONLY in Win2000 w/SP3 and XP w/SP1. Update your OS from Windows Update and let the OS install the ports after reboot and they should work.
    If your USB ports aren't working:
    Check in the BIOS if the ports are enabled. If you're using the front USB ports of your case check to see if all of the wires are connected properly.
    There are 4 wires for each USB channel.
    In some manufaturer's cases they are supplied with a wire called USBOC. Don't connect this as it can cause problems.
    Also different mfg's mark the wires with different names so the basic nomenclature would be something like this:
    +5v = +VCC
    -D = -USB
    +D = +USB
    Note: Normally the cables are marked as +USB1 or -USB1, +USB2 or -USB2 and so on...please ensure that all of the 1's are together and all of the 2's are together.
    12) Replacing parts and the system won't boot after
    It's never a good idea to replace stuff like CPU and ram without taking the board out of the case. But if you do so please support the board because if you don't you might bend the board a little and cause trace breakage or component connections to the board to crack or break causing a bad contact. Always support the board when you replace components no matter what!
    Also make sure your system is compatible with any replacement component. For example your PSU may not be able to handle a video card upgrade from a GeForce2 440MX to a GeForce4 Ti-4600 because the +12v rail is too low or the motherboard isn't rated to output the proper voltage to the AGP port.
    If you have parts that work in another computer with a different chipset this DOES NOT mean they will work with the nforce2 chipset.
    13) Graphics Card
    If there is stability problem and/or can't use agp 8x then update to the latest bios and it should work. Also try to disable the 8x feature of the motherboard in the BIOS. If neither of these work then you may have a PSU that is under-powered and needs to be replaced. You could also have a faulty video card, AGP port on the motherboard among other things. If you have to disable the 8x feature in the BIOS then there is still a problem even if the card starts working. That may mean the motherboard is bad. Also use the latest drivers available from the respective manufacturer and don't forget to uninstall the old drivers first!! There is a sticky post in the VGA forum that details this process.
    14) Checking the power supply
    Don't do this if you don't know what you are doing!
    a) Disconnect the power supply.
    b) Orient the 20-pin power connector with the clip up.
    c) Locate pin 4 and pin 8 top row, mostly green and black wire. (Usually the PSU manufacturer will have a drawing labeling the pins on their website)
    d) Use a wire to short them (or better a 12V test lamp).
    e) Now connect the power cord and the fan inside the power supply should start spinning. If it doesn't your power supply might be dead.
    15) Windows
    a) If you find that Windows2000/XP won't run stable:
    Try to disable APIC and install again. Not all drivers/devices like the APIC.
    b) Windows2000/XP won't install USB 2.0:
    Install the latest service pack using Windows Update (SP3 Win2000 or SP1 WinXP). Windows should detect the USB ports on reboot and install the drivers for them. They should work now but if not you could have a faulty motherboard.
    If you use a current or slipstreamed copy of Win2K or XP with the latest service pack they include these new drivers. This download will no longer be available on Windows Update.

    16) Raid
    Configure a raid array:
    After you have connected 1 or 2 hard drives to your Raid IDE port(s) press CTRL + F during boot and create a raid array.
    It is possible to have 2 raid arrays working at the same time.
    To boot from a raid array set SCSI as the first boot device.
    To install windows on a raid array you have to press F6 to load raid drivers during the initial install of windows. This will be repeated during Windows desktop installation of drivers because the initial drivers are only loaded to memory during this initial install allowing the Windows installation program to access the raid drives. A default driver is loaded at bootup so that the drives can be accessed until the real drivers are loaded from the MB disk.
    Raid 0 sets up striping which gives more performance for applications. Raid 1 sets up mirroring which gives drive security by duplicating the primary drive to the secondary drive.
    When using two different sized drives in a raid array, the larger drive is forced to only use the amount of disk space that the smaller drive provides.

    The third IDE only works with harddrives not optical drives such as CD,DVD. It only supports one drive.
    You must create an array first, weather you are using 2 drives or just one
    or nothing will happen .

    INSTALLATION
    To install raid as a boot drive.
    Control + F and make the array.
    Set SCSI second to cdrom in boot order.
    Boot to xp cd and hit F6 as it prompts you to do right at the beginning and then insert the floppy.

    I'm skeptical running raid 0 with both on the same ide myself.
    Now these you must get the bios and the drivers.
    The drivers are not the same as those for the RAID MSI includes.

    Hello.
    Here is a guide to help solve some problems with K7N2 motherboards.
    Problems arise in systems because some components do not work as they should.
    Typical issues found with these boards consist of Non-nForce2 Approved RAM & a weak power supply. Other issues could be a cpu won't run at its rated fsb speed or an incorrectly mounted cpu cooler.
    Sound problems - too many or incorrectly placed metal standoffs, bad drivers.
    Windows won't install or you get a file read error - Incorrectly mounted CPU heat sink, RAM or power supply (PSU).
    I've listed some instructions below to help those users that need a basic comprehensive guide to troubleshoot their systems with. Please read through the entire guide prior to posting for help on the forum.
    Before you start doing anything, remove the power cord and make sure that you have touched the metal case of your system. This is called "Grounding yourself" and if you don't you could damage your system due to static discharge!

    1) BIOS/Startup POST reports wrong cpu or frequency
    Check if jumper j10 and j11 are set to safemode and also check fsb settings in bios. If the jumpers are set to safe mode set them to normal, this is found in your motherboard manual. The jumpers vary with motherboards and manufacturers.
    SafeMode sets cpu and memory to 100mhz.
    Both memory and cpu are double pumped.
    Data is clocked on the rise and fall of each clock cycle.
    That means that 100mhz real frequency is 200mhz virtual frequency.
    This is NOT without error and so your results may vary a little.
    Non-Delta supports all cpu up to fsb 333
    Delta supports all Socket A cpu
    Duron upto 1300MHz = 100MHz (=200DDR)
    Duron from 1400MHz = 133MHz (=266DDR)
    Athlon B type = 100MHz (=200DDR)
    Athlon C type = 133MHz (=266DDR)
    Athlon XP - C type = 133MHz (=266DDR)
    Athlon XP - D type = 166MHz (=333DDR)
    Athlon XP - E type = 200MHz (=400DDR)
    Support for new Duron 1400, 1600, 1800 with 266Mhz FSB (applebred)

    The best way to identify a processor is by using the OPN (Ordering Part Number) which can be found on the processor (E.g. AXDA 2700 D K V 3 D).

    2) Over temp CPU
    Is the Heat Sink and Fan rated for the CPU?
    The CPU Heat Sink could be mounted wrong! Carefully remove it and check it. It can and will fit 2 ways but ther is only 1 right way.  Examine the installation very carefully!
    The Heat Sink has a recessed edge that has to be installed over the ridge (higher part or bump) of the socket. If installed backwards then it won't cool the entire area of the processor 'die' and could cause it to burn, thus killing it, or give you trouble as outlined in this guide.
    Make sure that you use a QUALITY Thermal Compound/Paste and DO NOT reuse old compound! Note that some Heat Sinks are shipped with Thermal Pads, these are ok for some but will not give you the best heat transfer that a quality paste will.
    Below are three images, the first two are incorrect, the last is correct.
    Again..It is important to match the notch or step in the heatsink to the socket or it will not seat properly, causing immediate shutdowns, and ultimately damage your CPU.
    If you use too much Silver based Thermal Compund you risk shorting the bridges on the CPU. This could cause damage to the CPU itself so use sparingly! If you feel that you've used too much then clean the die and substrate (the brown or green fiberglass material that the die is mounted on) and re-apply. Orange Clean TM is excellent for cleaning any type of thermal compound from a processor. Isopropyl Alchohol is ok but may leave traces of silver on the substrate. Using a 10X eye loupe will ensure that no traces of silver are shorting any bridges together after cleaning. DO NOT clean your processor while it rests in its socket on the motherboard. You run the risk of cleaner mixed with compound and dirt settling into your socket and that will cause further problems.
    Last but not least. DO NOT use acetone to clean anything inside your PC. (or outside for that matter) It MAY not do any damage BUT it may dissolve some parts. Especially the coating on capacitors and resistors.
    Silverbased compounds are not recommended by most manufacturers and if any traces are detected by them from an RMA'd processor they will usually void the warranty!
    The latest AMD XP CPU's (XP-2000 and above) require a copperbased heatsink because their die are smaller and generate far more heat per square centimeter than the "old" CPU's did.
    a)How to check the Heat Sink before taking it off:
    There is a simple way to check the Heat Sink without taking it off. You do this by first checking your idle temp with SpeedFan or MBM, it should be below 50-55C.
    Download Prime95 and run torture test for about 10 minutes while monitoring the temps, after about 1 minute or so it should stabilize and your temp should have gone up about 10-15C (max).
    If it still goes up or the system crashes, there is a chance that you've mounted the heat sink incorrectly.
    If your system can't run this check, (i.e. freezes or crashes) try setting your  FSB to 100. Try to run the test again. If it still fails to run  it could well be that the heat sink is mounted wrong or your power supply doesn't have enough power.
    You cant check if the heatsink only has partial contact with the CPU die by looking on temperature monitor programs. The heatsink needs to be removed to see that.

    3) Power Supplies
    Most common cheap 300-350W power supply units (PSU for short) can't handle an XP-1700 or above, try a better one to be sure.
    Make sure your PSU has 200W combined on the +3.3v & +5V rails and that the +3.3V rail is rated for 20A (A = Amps or Amperage) or above. This should be enough for most systems.
    On the latest boards the +12V rail has become very important too, expecially with AMD ThunderBird & above CPU's. Make sure your PSU can supply 16A or more.
    Alway's make sure you have a decent PSU, it never fails to spend a bit more on that part!
    Borrow a bigger one from a friend if you are not sure.

    This is the bare minimum that you should see on a PSU running an AMD processor. Intel is a bit more forgiving in some cases but with the amount of devices we use these days this minimum is a good guidline:
    +3.3V - 28A or better
    +5V - 35A or better
    +12V - 16A or better
    Watch out!! Cheap PSU's like Q-Tec come nowhere near these figures!! Do NOT trust the 300W or 400W rating on them!!! Q-Tec is about the worst of them all!!
    4) Metal Stand-offs
    Sometimes we are all a bit careless when it comes to changing a motherboard and forget to look at the layout of the stand-offs (those little silver or brass pieces that the screws screw into to hold the motherboard in the case) that are left from the old motherboard. Some motherboards use more than others thus some overlook the 'extra' one and mount that new board and never know the difference. Until they try to start their new baby up!
    Remove the board and check for to see if you have too many of them by counting the holes or screws that you took out and then count the number of stand-offs you have in the case. Remove any uneeded stand-offs then remount your motherboard. Having 'extra's' can short out circuitry and cause all sorts of problems most of which are audio related.
    Here are what typical stand-offs look like:
    5) Sound
    Two types of audio chipsets are used in these boards:
    a) The -ILSR version uses Soundstorm and has drivers supplied from MSI or nVidia.
    b) The -L version uses RealTek sound and has drivers supplied by MSI and Realtek.
    There have been a lot of issues regarding the -L board and its drivers supplied by MSI. Realtek drivers seem to repair these issues and can be found here:

    6) RAM
    Most of the issues involving these boards have been memory related. For various reasons cheaper generic memory doesn't run with nForce2 chipsets well and you should get nForce2 Approved RAM. Here is a link to nVidia's compatibility list as well as a list of what has worked for some:

    It's not a good idea to try to run DDR266 RAM when you have a 333FSB CPU, get DDR333 ram of decent quality.
    If you think that you're having RAM issues then replace the ram with another brand to see if it fixes it or borrow some from a friend to check. Make sure it isn't cheap quality RAM or what you borrow isn't cheap quality. You can run to the local CompUSA (if you live in the USA that is) and buy some better quality RAM and return it later if you find that it isn't the problem.
    DDR ram speeds:
    Duron up to 1300/Athlon-B = 100FSB = PC-1600 = DDR200
    Duron from 1400 = 133FSB = PC-2100 = DDR266
    Athlon-C/XP up to 2600 = 133FSB = PC-2100 = DDR266
    Athlon XP D-type and above = 166FSB = PC-2700 = DDR333
    Athlon XP E-type and above = 200FSB = PC-3200 = DDR400
    Set Fsb / Dram Ratio to 1:1 that means that the memory is working at the same speed as the fsb does.
    Higher DDR speeds are only a must if you try to overclock. You can use faster RAM on a slower system and the motherboard bus will switch down in speed accordingly. The speeds given above are what should be used as a minimum, otherwise you're creating a serious bottleneck of data from the RAM.
    Use a decent RAM testing utility such as Memtest86 if you suspect RAM is faulty. Typical failures of RAM include but are not limited to:
    a) BSOD (Blue Screen of Death!)
    b) Data Corruption
    c) Machine won't cold boot
    Try your system always with 1 RAM module at a time to see if you have a bad module. Swap modules if you have more than 1 to see if one or the other is bad. When upgrading remeber that adding more modules can give you trouble too. Especially if you mix manufacturers. Some sticks just won't work in pairs and some fail when you put 3 or more in the system. When you want to use 3 sticks, make very sure you use the nVidia tested and approved modules, they are your best chance that they will work without problems.
    If still nothing try to seat the ram in another slot, sometimes they work better in another slot.

    7) BIOS

Press and hold down "insert" on the keyboard and press the case front panel power switch. If you are successful it should start the cpu and memory at 100Mhz FSB. If it does press "delete" to reenter the bios to change your settings to known safe settings. Good luck.
    9) Harddisks
    If your hard drive is giving you problems:
    Western Digital (WD) drive's are jumpered somewhat strange compared to others:
    No jumper = Stand-Alone drive with no other drive attached to the cable.
    Jumper master = Use this setting on your main drive if you have a slave drive installed in your system.
    Jumper slave = Use this setting if you have a second hard drive installed in your system.
    Cable Select - the preferred jumper setting
    If your Hard Drive is doing weird things:
    Make sure you have connected the color-coded connectors to the color-coded connectors on the motherboard and connect the other END of the cable to the hard drive. The middle connector can be left unattached without problems if not needed.
    Not all motherboards have color-coded connectors.
    IBM harddisks seem to fail a lot, try Drive-Fitness-Test on it, see if it has problems.
    Run drive fitness test (DFT)
    Maxtor also has its own version of hard drive check for their drives and is available from their website.
    Any brand of hard drive can have problems so check the manufacturer website to see if there is a testing utility to use to make sure they are ok. Hard drive failures can cause some of the strangest problems with computers and should be checked via the Event Viewer of your Operating System or using the mfg's utility. Sometimes the Event Viewer will give you clues that you have bad sectors leading you to a potential hard drive failure. You could also find IDE/SCSI controllers that are suspect by looking there as well. Win9x and ME DO NOT have Event Viewers.
    Alway's be sure your harddisk is in tip-top shape! If you suspect that it's not, replace it to verify.

    Harddisk/power LED not functioning:
    If your Hard Drive or Power LED doesn't work try turning the plug around on the motherboard connector. Some manufacturers don't mark or wire the LED cables properly and the LEDs will only work when + and - is correct.
    Hard drive LEDs do not work with SATA drives but O&O Drive LED opens a little window and there you can see when a harddrive or cd is accessed. Works on both ide and sata drives.
    10) Floppy Drives
    If your floppy drive doesn't work or the LED stays on all of the time make sure the floppy is set correctly in the BIOS because the BIOS doesn't autodetect a floppy drive.
    Check the cable making sure that the twist in the cable is at the floppy-drive side and flip the connector at the around. If it stays on after that or you still can't read a floppy disk try another drive or a different manufaturer type drive.
    11) USB Ports
    USB 2.0 ports are supported ONLY in Win2000 w/SP3 and XP w/SP1. Update your OS from Windows Update and let the OS install the ports after reboot and they should work.
    If your USB ports aren't working:
    Check in the BIOS if the ports are enabled. If you're using the front USB ports of your case check to see if all of the wires are connected properly.
    There are 4 wires for each USB channel.
    In some manufaturer's cases they are supplied with a wire called USBOC. Don't connect this as it can cause problems.
    Also different mfg's mark the wires with different names so the basic nomenclature would be something like this:
    +5v = +VCC
    -D = -USB
    +D = +USB
    Note: Normally the cables are marked as +USB1 or -USB1, +USB2 or -USB2 and so on...please ensure that all of the 1's are together and all of the 2's are together.
    12) Replacing parts and the system won't boot after
    It's never a good idea to replace stuff like CPU and ram without taking the board out of the case. But if you do so please support the board because if you don't you might bend the board a little and cause trace breakage or component connections to the board to crack or break causing a bad contact. Always support the board when you replace components no matter what!
    Also make sure your system is compatible with any replacement component. For example your PSU may not be able to handle a video card upgrade from a GeForce2 440MX to a GeForce4 Ti-4600 because the +12v rail is too low or the motherboard isn't rated to output the proper voltage to the AGP port.
    If you have parts that work in another computer with a different chipset this DOES NOT mean they will work with the nforce2 chipset.
    13) Graphics Card
    If there is stability problem and/or can't use agp 8x then update to the latest bios and it should work. Also try to disable the 8x feature of the motherboard in the BIOS. If neither of these work then you may have a PSU that is under-powered and needs to be replaced. You could also have a faulty video card, AGP port on the motherboard among other things. If you have to disable the 8x feature in the BIOS then there is still a problem even if the card starts working. That may mean the motherboard is bad. Also use the latest drivers available from the respective manufacturer and don't forget to uninstall the old drivers first!! There is a sticky post in the VGA forum that details this process.
    14) Checking the power supply
    Don't do this if you don't know what you are doing!
    a) Disconnect the power supply.
    b) Orient the 20-pin power connector with the clip up.
    c) Locate pin 4 and pin 8 top row, mostly green and black wire. (Usually the PSU manufacturer will have a drawing labeling the pins on their website)
    d) Use a wire to short them (or better a 12V test lamp).
    e) Now connect the power cord and the fan inside the power supply should start spinning. If it doesn't your power supply might be dead.
    15) Windows
    a) If you find that Windows2000/XP won't run stable:
    Try to disable APIC and install again. Not all drivers/devices like the APIC.
    b) Windows2000/XP won't install USB 2.0:
    Install the latest service pack using Windows Update (SP3 Win2000 or SP1 WinXP). Windows should detect the USB ports on reboot and install the drivers for them. They should work now but if not you could have a faulty motherboard.
    If you use a current or slipstreamed copy of Win2K or XP with the latest service pack they include these new drivers. This download will no longer be available on Windows Update.

    16) Raid
    Configure a raid array:
    After you have connected 1 or 2 hard drives to your Raid IDE port(s) press CTRL + F during boot and create a raid array.
    It is possible to have 2 raid arrays working at the same time.
    To boot from a raid array set SCSI as the first boot device.
    To install windows on a raid array you have to press F6 to load raid drivers during the initial install of windows. This will be repeated during Windows desktop installation of drivers because the initial drivers are only loaded to memory during this initial install allowing the Windows installation program to access the raid drives. A default driver is loaded at bootup so that the drives can be accessed until the real drivers are loaded from the MB disk.
    Raid 0 sets up striping which gives more performance for applications. Raid 1 sets up mirroring which gives drive security by duplicating the primary drive to the secondary drive.
    When using two different sized drives in a raid array, the larger drive is forced to only use the amount of disk space that the smaller drive provides.

    The third IDE only works with harddrives not optical drives such as CD,DVD. It only supports one drive.
    You must create an array first, weather you are using 2 drives or just one

    To install raid as a boot drive.
    Control + F and make the array.
    Set SCSI second to cdrom in boot order.

    Why Overclock?
    Today, overclocking is not any secret. It has become more popular and almost become an addiction to some people. The definition of Overclocking is simple: it means operating an Integrated Circuit beyond its specified clock speed.
    But why overclock? Some people say to get more out for the same money. “It’s there; why not get more out of it?” However, the best business reason for overclocking is that it can make “out of date” equipments useful again. If the equipment is already out of warranty, the risk is very limited. (I personally suggest any beginners to overclock any out of date PC first just to have some first time experience.)
    Know more about the Central Processing Unit (CPU)
    Processor speed is based on two factors. The first is the interface between the motherboard and the front side bus (FSB). From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page (Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia), FSB is the speed at which the CPU communicates with RAM (memory). Many system components - including the PCI and AGP buses usually run at speeds derived from the frontside bus' speed. In general, a faster frontside bus means higher processing speeds and a faster computer. The other factor controlling a CPU's speed is the clock multiplier. It defines the ratio of processor speed to the FSB.
    The FSB on new processors ranges from 400 MHz to 800 MHz. These are not straight clock speeds but instead they are quad-clocked speeds. These processors actually transmit data four times per clock cycle, for example, 800 MHz FSB is actually four times the 200MHz clock (200 MHz x 4 = 800 MHz).
    The core speed of the CPU is the product of the front side bus clock and the multiplier. A processor running at 3600MHz (i.e. 3.6 GHz) might be having 800 MHz FSB, this means there is a clock multiplier setting of 4, and thus the CPU is set to run at 4 times the MHz speed of the front side bus.
    But we said earlier that they are quad-clocked speeds, so 3600 MHz actually came from 18 times 200 MHz (200 MHz x 18 = 3600 MHz).
    Please note that not all processors have quad-clocked speed FSB. For example, the Intel Pentium 4 (Northwood core) has quad-clocked speed FSB. But for example, the Intel Pentium III, AMD Athlon XP and AMD Duron have dual-clocked speed FSB only.

    Let’s lock the clock multiplier
    Few years ago, you could overclock processors by choosing a higher multiplier. This option was eliminated in order to fight CPU remarking. Counterfeit processors have regularly appeared in the market, as the CPU speed was only defined by your setting. Nowadays, the restriction to only one multiplier is both of overclocking and counterfeit prevention.
    As you can see, the only way of overclocking today is choosing a higher front side bus clock and the offer of small increments e.g. 1MHz in today's motherboards give us a great advantage in overclocking.
    However, some CPUs nowadays are still unlocked, for example, the AMD Athlon MP and AMD Athlon64 families. And some motherboard companies offer the chance to unlock the Pentium 4 (Socket 775 CPUs only) overclocking potential by using special bios, for more please read:

    Look at your motherboard
    Before you overclock anything, have a look if your motherboard can overclock CPU. Look at the CPU installation section in the motherboard manual. Normally you will find either BIOS setup options or jumpers on the motherboard that allow you to adjust the FSB, CPU voltage, PCI/AGP ratio etc.
    If you have a computer that came from a major manufacturer like HP, it is likely that your motherboard does not provide any overclocking function although it is very rare nowadays.
    You need more Power!
    This is also the time to check the power supply in your computer. Like a car, speed requires power, and unstable power inevitably leads to unstable processors, so I would recommend the power supply has to be at least 350 Watts. You can find six power supply guides in this forum below:

    Both Intel and AMD processors are power hungry, consuming 40 to 100 watts (e.g. the new Prescott) of power. Also, your graphics card may take another 55 watts of power. Now you are consuming more than 100 watts of power for merely two components in your system.

    Using higher voltages
    Today, almost each processor can be run faster than the speed it was labeled for. This applies even more if you raise the core voltage a little bit. This is just like a car running at higher speed requires more power. But this is one of the “riskiest” aspects of overclocking - by using too much power you could burn your CPU. You should always raise the voltage step by step and never go higher than 15% beyond the specification. This way it is quite easy to get a faster system without risking the processor. Apart from raising the voltage of the CPU, similarly you can raise the voltage of memory as well. One problem is of course the increasing chip temperature, so cooling is very important. We will cover that later.
    Memory Speed
    Memory speed is often tied to the FSB. For example, a Double Data Rate (DDR) 400 memory has frequency 200MHz and the module rating is PC3200. Half the performance increase you may see from overclocking a CPU comes from increasing the speed at which the processor can talk to the memory.
    When you buy memory, you may see it has label 2-3-3-7-1T. And you may also hear people saying my memory is a 2-3-3-7 one. But what does it mean? The answer is:
    CAS Latency = 2 clock cycles
    tRCD = RAS to CAS delay = 3 clock cycles
    tRP = RAS Precharge = 3 clock cycles
    tRAS = Active to Precharge = 7 clock cycles
    Command Rate = 1 clock cycle
    Different motherboards may call the above differently and not all of them will appear in the BIOS. You may need to check with your motherboard’s support team and the motherboard manual. If you have any option above in your BIOS, you can also start to adjust them. Obviously, the smaller the number the faster the memory will be.

    Video Card
    To overclock video card, we need a third party utility to overclock the card. Although increasing numbers of manufacturers include utilities to allow customers to overclock their cards in their drivers or through an extra application, most of them do not provide this facility. Simply because overclocking stresses the system and voids manufacturer warranties. Third party utilities tend to be universal that they work on different cards irrespective of manufacturers.

    Get the temperature down
    Cooling is probably the most important aspect of overclocking. Overclocking causes circuits to cycle faster, generating more heat. If the CPU is not cooled properly, your CPU will not run reliably and there is a very good chance that you will permanently damage your CPU.
    The heat sink and fan unit that Intel and AMD ship with its CPU are fairy good. However, for maximum stability, we need to get something better than that. For example, for CPU fans, we have Vantec Tornado, Thermaltake volcano 7+, CoolerMaster Aero 4 and Zalman CNPS7000A-AlCu etc.
    Be sure that the cooling solution you choose is specifically designed for your processor. Improperly mounting a heat sink, using the wrong model can damage your processor.
    Also, the airflow in the case is very important. If heat cannot escape the case, the CPU is still at risk. Thus, more case fans are needed apart from the power supply's exhaust fan. Tidying up the cables inside the case can help too. In addition, clearing the dust in the case by using canned compressed air can enhance the airflow but never use vacuum cleaner as it may generate electrostatic and harm the IC components.

    Overclocking Process
    Essentially, overclocking processors consists of increasing the FSB in the BIOS, booting the computer, and then testing for stability. You repeat the process until you identify the maximum stable speed.
    In case your board offer 1 MHz-increments (which most of your boards do), you have the chance to find out the maximum clock speed by slowly closing in on the final limit MHz for MHz. Of course this cannot be done in an hour, but you will have to spend one or two days just playing with different clock speed settings. In the end you should have your CPU running at the highest possible core speed. The Most important thing to remember is that you must go Slowly!
    Also, you can overclock the processor by using software although it may not be as effective as overclocking using the motherboard BIOS. Such software includes:

    Bear in mind that if the processor is capable of a 20-percent or more speed increase say, it is unlikely that your video card or memory can have the same amount of increase. And the one thing that you must remember to do if you overclock the FSB is to Set (i.e. Lock) your AGP/PCI Buses, to as close to their Default Frequencies as Possible (to PCI bus at 33 MHz and the AGP port at 66 MHz for example), or you will most definitely experience problems across the whole board e.g. your graphics card, onboard sound and IDE channels may start giving you data and other errors.
    Test for Stability and Benchmarking
    The purpose of testing is to apply a heavy workload to every aspect of your system to ensure that there are no hidden problems and stability issue. You can do testing by using special testing suites, software and games. The aim of benchmarking is to measure the performance of your system. In overclocking, benchmarking can tell you how far the system’s performance has increased when you adjust certain settings.

    For testing video card, you can run Games like Quake 3 and Unreal Tournament demo mode and left running in loops.     I have a 2.6C Northwood pentium 4 on an MSI 875P Neo2-FISR mobo.  On air I'm able to get it to about 3.14Ghz stable.  I don't believe it's a good idea to go past 1.6 for the voltage, from what I've read, voltage doesn't help too much with the northwoods.
    I can overclock mine higher without any significant changes in temperatures, but the overclocks aren't stable and the system freezes up from time to time.  I'm using Kingston HyperX PC4000 DDR, which can run at up to 500mhz, so I can do a 1:1 ratio on the overclock.  I'm using a modular 500-watt power supply, Arctic Silver 5 and a huge honking Swiftech heatsink with an 80mm fan.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro Import Problem

    Let me get one idea out of the way.
    NO. IT'S NOT THE DAMN CODEC, AND IT'S NOT A PROBLEM WITH EMPTY WRAPPERS.
    Every time I try to import a fully functioning video (any format), Premiere Pro continues to import it as an audio file. Only when I import the clip as a sequence does it fully apply both video and audio.
    No matter what version I revert to, it does the same thing. Even worse, sometimes it's the other way around! Sometimes, the picture imports but not the audio!
    And this has been going for a month.
    Even better: when I import the footage to After Effects or Media Encoder, it works perfectly. Full audio and solid visuals all around. I don't know what is happening.
    I'm switching to Sony Vegas until further notice.
    I use DVDVideoSoft to download and convert my footage (this affects nothing, however. I've tried importing a movie [The Woman] and it's done the same thing).

    Hello TW,
    This is a DirectX formatted movie? I don't believe that is on the list of supported formats for Premiere Pro. Interesting you were able to import it into other applications though. I wonder if the movie has a variable frame rate. I also wonder if you tried to import it via the Media Browser. Please try that instead of File > Import and retry.
