DEAUTHORIZING COMPUTERS

I recently had a computer meltdown. Fortunately, I had all my ITUNES music backed up so I could restore it. UN fortunately, I had to DEauthorize all of my computers (I only have one) and every time I try to play different songs it keeps asking me to authorize this computer. ITUNES has always been such a pain in the *** with these things. Now, I can't authorize stuff so I can play my songs. Which, by the way, I have about $700. of my hard earned bucks invested in and I am wondering why.
< Edited by Host >

Not sure if this will help but I just purchased a new computer and restored my Libraries to it. I authorized the songs but only 25% of the purchased songs would play. Kept getting need to authorize no matter how many time I put my id and password in. What I failed to realize, was that I purchased 75% of my music under my AOL account and the most recent 25% under my new Apple account. I had to sign in under the AOL account and auhthorize those purchases also. Now all my music plays. Not sure if this situation applies to you (music purchased under 2 different accounts) but if it does signing in under both and authorizing while signed in will work. Good luck.

    Hi,
Unfortunately i am not able to use the store downloads on a new laptop since i did not deauthorized computers in the past.
Unfortunately, I can not execute this process since two computers in the past 4 years are not in use any longer. Both were completely erased by me.
How do I keep using the store for my new lap top?
    Thank you
    Limor

Individual computers can only be deauthorised directly on them, but you should be able to log into your account on your computer's iTunes via the Store > View Account menu option and 'deauthorise all' (which you can do once every 12 months) and you can then authorise/reauthorise the computers that you still have and need : authorising and deauthorising.

You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. The only other option is to "de-authorize all" from your iTunes account.
      1. Open iTunes on a computer
      2. From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
      3. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
      4. Under "Computer Authorizations" select "De-authorize All".
      5. Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only do this once per year.
After you "de-authorize all" your authorized computers, re-authorize each one as required.
If you have de-authorized all computers and need to do it again, but your year has not elapsed, then contact: Apple - Support - iTunes - Contact Us.

  • Authorizing computers and Deauthorizing computers

Why does it matter if I deauthorize all computers more than once per year? I have had a year where I have had 2 computers totally crash on me, and 2 others had backup issues. I had to wipe the hard drives and reinstall Itunes on these machines, yet now I cannot authorize this same exact computer because it says I am out of authorizations for the year and have to wait until June. If that's the case, I might as well just quit Itunes, move my music to another program, because there is no more DRM, and just play the stuff over there? I buy a lot of stuff on Itunes, why can I not de-authorize all computers, which it would seem, theoretically, that all computers that were authorized wouldn't be anymore, so they wouldn't be allowed to play my content? How can I get my account fixed back since this whole thing has been a mix of crashes, and my end of the year reformats where I just forgot to deauthorize my computer before I formatted it over again. Am I screwed or what? (The screw ups I did were from installing Windows 7 and forgetting to deauthorize before installing it fresh, which I prefer to do over just upgrading, which always comes with problems)

PatFerr, that limitation was probably to stop unscrupulous folks from loading millions of PCs with pirated music. Yes, that is a flippant comment I made.
You can see if any of your PCs are using multiple authorizations by repeatedly deauthorizing them:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1206
That worked for me when I had a motherboard go bad, with no warning time to deauthorize the PC before that happened.
If that doesn't get you anywhere, contact iTS support and explain your situation. And for goodness' sakes, remember to deauth in the future before reinstalling the OS!
ElijahRocks, yours is a similar problem, but since you haven't hit the limit of 5 PC,s my advice is to just not worry about it. My work replaced a PC while I was on vacation and that authorization is forever gone. Since I'm still at 4 PCs it does not matter. Once I hit the limit of 5, I can use the once-per-year "deauthorize all".

  • HT1420 Deauthorizing Computers

I am trying to deauthorize all of my previous computers.  When I try to add music purchased I get the message that I already have 5 computers authorized.  I followed the instructions to deauthorize them all and I don't get the link to click to do that shown in the instructions.  Instead, my account says I only have one computer authorized.  How can I get my current computer authorized and all others deauthorized?

  • Deauthorized computers that i don't have

Hello, ,my question is how can I deauthorized a computer that is not available anymore.
My Pc got viruses three times already and i couldn't deauthorized the computer before my husband got it reset, so now it looks like i have 5 computers authorized, but i actually only have 2 where i play the music, is there a way that i can get the other three deauthorized??

It's a bit hard deauthorising computers when you've reinstalled windows on that computer and it doesnt exist anymore then when you click the 'deauthorise all' button it says you cant as you have to wait a few more months as its only allowed once a year.
Do you really wonder why people hate apple?
drop the once a year thing and it might seem reasonable.
I have an iPhone I cant sync for this exact reason.
I will be looking elseware to sync the iphone to the PC now as itunes refuses. I will also make sure its jailbreaked coz you refuse to let me use MY iphone on MY computer.

  • Deauthorizing computers that no longer exist.

How do you deauthorize a itunes system on a computer that no longer exists.   I have replaced computers and did not deauthorize them before discarding.  I cannot authorize new systems because of the 5 system limitation in itunes.   I want to use home sharing and now I cannot.   Any assistance would be appreciated.

You have posted in the itunes U forum.  Itunes U is the place where colleges universities and museums post educational material for students.
Perhaps posting in the appropriate forum would help.
If you have reached 5, then you can deauthorize all.

I have 5 authorized computers on my account however, I only know of 1 that I am presently using.  If I deauthorize ALL my computers and reauthorize the one that I am using do I have to reload everything back onto the account?   Please help....thank you

No content is lost when you deauthorize. You just may not be able to play some of it (video content, old pre-iTunes-Plus music, etc) until you reauthorize the computer that it is on.

  • Deauthorizing computers on itunes - problem with aol email

I understand you can only authorize up to 5 computers per apple ID and cannot combine apple IDs.
I am trying to play old songs purchased with an old aol ID. It appears that myscreenname and [email protected] are two different apple IDs.
I am able to sign into itunes using [email protected] and it says 3 computers are authorized
I am not able to sign into itunes using myscreenname because it says "you need to change your account to use an apple ID. To continue to use the Itunes store you must create an apple ID." When I hit update account and try to make one, it says I already have an account with this email address and that I can just log in.
But when I click on the old songs it prompts me to type in my password for myusername NOT [email protected]
    I know this is confusing...
I believe I need to "deauthorize" all computers on myusername but I cannot log into that because of what I described above...

Ok i figured it out! Just putting this up here in case anyone else had this problem:

I did this but changed the email address to a new one that I actually have now, which took me to the original old account but called it by this new email address. From the account page I could deauthorize all computers.

  • Deauthorizing computers that don't exist

How am I supposed to deauthorize computers that don't exist? Every time I've had to reinstall Windows, iTunes eats up another "authorization". Now all 5 authorizations are taken, and my iTunes purchases are useless. I only have 1 computer, Apple, so make this easier for Windows users, will you?

Your supposed to deathorize BEFORE a re-install. Not after. iTunes makes it very easy to do that.

Apple makes it easy enough to de-authorize your computer. You can even do a de-authorize all once a year. Log on your account and you should be able to not only view your authorizations, but have an option to de-authorize all of them.

  • Need Help "Deauthorizing" Computers From my Account

Just got a new logic board installed on my 3+ year old machine and it's not letting me sync my iPhones. It says I'm only allowed to authorize 5 computers to my account. It asks me to "deauthorize" some of the older ones in order for my current machine to be "authorized." Anyone know how to find the list of machines I've used over the past 10 years so I can attempt "deauthorization?"
    Thanks !

  • Authorizing deauthorizing computers

I recently restored all my ITUNES library. I could not play many songs since it seems I needed to "authorize" my computer. I have done this several times and still cannot play many songs. I "de-authorized all of them but I am still prompted to "authorize" but now it seems I have 5 computers authorized and can do no more. However, I went back and "de-authorized all of them again and it says I only have 2 comps authorized. So, what in the heck is going on and how do I fix it? Thx.

    Does this help?
