My bad, I did not see the link from the above reply. (my font is small on this website) That would be the way to do it if you know what your doing. You can also do the same for windows. Just not sure how.

No computer can do a thing without using memory. 1.5 GB is very little. It's normal.
3 or so hours from a full charge may also be normal, for what you are doing. As batteries age, they don't last as long on a full charge as they did when they were new. All batteries eventually wear out, and are easily replaceable.

  • How to find out how much RAM  allocated to ASE sybase 15.7 on HP-unix

    Dear expert/Sir,
How to find out how much RAM  allocated to Sybase ASE 15.7 and I using operating system is HP-Unix, because I have set  max memory

Appending to Bret's reply, the following may help you in understanding
SAP Sybase ASE maintains two other measures of memory besides max memory.
You can observe them using sp_configure "memory" procedure
    1. The total logical memory : represents the amount of memory required by all objects that are allocated in the configuration file; for example, users, caches, open databases, and open objects.
    2. The total physical memory : represents the amount of memory that is actually in "use" at a given time. This fluctuates according to the number of users online and the number of open objects, among other factor

  • To ram,or not to ram, that is the question.

I have a first edition g5 dual 2.0.Ever since I have had this computer I have had this problem where when booting the computer will freeze at the grey screen at start up.This seems to happen to me when I install ram.I have been through 3 episodes where after installing ram the computer would not boot past the grey screen with the apple logo.I will not document all the episodes, but it happens like this a couple of months back I had 4gigs of ram installed in my machine.I had purchased 6 more 1 gig sticks and was going to attempt to max out the slots.I removed the bottom apple stock 256 ram modules and put in 2 1 gig modules in the place of them.I went to boot the machine I see the apple logo, spinning wheel, the wheel stops, will not boot past grey screen. So I took out the newly added modules and put in 2 different 1gig modules, same brand, grey screen, apple logo, wheel stops spinning,no boot.I put in the 2 original apple modules, now it does not boot with them installed.I take out all the ram except the two stock modules, and disconnect the spare hd.I try to boot everything stock, same thing, stuck at grey screen.I tried to boot the machine the next night, after over half a dozen attempts I was able to fully boot, once I was in I decided to reinstall the the os,10.2.7 that came with the unit.I did a complete reinstall. When I was done I tried to restart the computer,it froze at the grey screen.I have a g5 imac at work, and at home.I used those machines for the next three months, and one day I had a chance to start early with apple tech support and maybe resolve my issue.I had done some rearranging in the other room so I moved the g5 in there.I hooked up my apple 15" cinema display plugged her in and off she went,it booted with no problems! Why?How could this be?So I have been using the unit for the last few months stock configuration, updated 10.2.7 to tiger, currently with updates at 10.5.All I have used the unit for is ripping movies with handbrake, done at least 200.There is only about 1 month left on my warranty,I have been interested in selling or trading the unit before my warranty runs out.Last night I plugged the cables back into my spare hd.zeroed out the data rebooted all was well.I took out the stock ram, install 2gigs of the ram I had tried before,I reboot, apple logo,no spinning wheel, freeze at grey screen.I found this last episode the weirdest with the grey screen on this attempt I did not get the spinning wheel, the wheel did not show.I shut down and installed 2 1gig sticks that originally worked.reboot, grey screen, logo,no wheel,no boot.I reinstalled the original ram, same as above, grey screen.I started up in safe mode.Repaired disk permissions on the maindrive, run mac janitor, run mem test, mem test reported ram to be ok.I reboot, full start up!What is the deal here!Where do I go from here.On one occasion I called tech support they told me to system diagnostics disk, have done this twice in the past, system passed all test. The way the system sits now its fine,i'm affraid who ever I sold it to would install ram and go through the same ordeal. And I do not want that.I have thought of trying to do the ram install again, then If it freezes boot into safe mode, repair permissions, run mac janitor, run mem test and see if I can get it to work that way.Should I try to run the diagnostics to see if the system passes all the test?My unit is also eligible for a power supply replacement, should I call and have that done and mention these problems?I am all ears.I am open to all suggestions. If you read this far then god bless you!Sorry for such a winded post it could have been longer.

    This is what it shows:
    BANK 0/DIMM0:
    Size: 2 GB
    Type: DDR2 SDRAM
    Speed: 667 MHz
    Status: OK

    Part Number: 0x4D342037305435363633515A332D43463720
    Serial Number: 0x943236BB
    BANK 1/DIMM1:
    Size: 2 GB
    Type: DDR2 SDRAM
    Speed: 667 MHz
    Status: OK
    Manufacturer: 0xCE00000000000000

    Serial Number: 0x94323607
So it looks like everything is normal, but it's kinda weird if the machine was only made to support up to 2 GB.. I guess it's a good thing.

  • How much RAM & CPU should I allocate for Windows 7 Ultimate?

I am in the process of setting up my new 27" iMac i7. I'm brand new to Apple computers so this is a learning curve for me! I have installed Parallels Desktop 5 so I can run Windows 7 side by side with Snow Leopard. Now I am trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate but I don't know how much RAM and CPU to allocate to my virtual machine. Has anyone done this and can anyone help? I have 8 gb RAM and 1 tb Hard Drive.
    Thank you for your help!

    Hello SwissCanuck,
Just FYI, with regard to 32-bit and 64-bit Windows 7:
You will not be able to "upgrade" from a 32-bit version of Windows 7 to 64-bit -- the architecture between the two is too drastically different to allow such a change. To learn more about the differences between a 32-bit operating system and 64-bit please go to the following link: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/32-bit-and-64-bit-Windows-frequ ently-asked-questions
Additionally, check out the requirements here for Windows 7:
If you want to run Windows 7 on your PC, here's what it requires:
    •1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
•1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
•16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
•DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver
Obviously covered as per your hardware. Essentially, it is always better if you run Windows 7 as a "Native OS" you can do this with boot camp from Apple. Typically, the performance is not as fast in virtual environments

  • Too Much Inactive RAM, Too Little Free RAM

I used to have a 2007 iMac running Snow Leopard, and I switched to a 2011 iMac running Mountain Lion. On both of my computers, I kept running out of free RAM after a while, and my inactive RAM kept taking up all my free RAM. It still does it. I end up with around 30MB of free RAM, a reasonable amount of active RAM, and a massive amount of inactive RAM after a few days, then my computer slows down a lot.
I have to keep flushing the inactive RAM with a memory cleaning tool or else my computer slows to a crawl. Repairing the permissions is supposed to clean out the inactive RAM (thanks, Tuttle), but alarmingly, this doesn't work for me. There must be something causing this problem, and I want to find it. How do I do this? Can processes currently running be using inactive RAM, or is that only possible if they have just been closed? Is there a tool that can check how much inactive RAM is allocated to each process?
P.S. To make it clear: I know that I'm not supposed to worry about inactive RAM and let the system do its own optimization, but it must not be doing it right because it's causing extremely noticeable slowdowns. The computer is like a Geo Metro pulling a whale if I don't flush the inactive RAM periodically.

Since you are so concerned, take your iMac to your local AS or an AASP for a FREE diagnostic test.  At least you will have piece of mind when you get a confirmation of what is really going on.

  • RAM and other Q's for MSI k7n2g-ilsr

I had a friend buy this board and he got kingston ram and the kingston ram failed on him so he got CERTified samsung ram and i thought IM not paying  :O  $150 for 512 RAM.  X(
I saw the Article about ram recommendations for this board but im paranoid you could say. I want to buy either cosiar 2 sticks of 256(Model#: CMX256A-2700C2 ) or could i get 2 sticks of 512 coaisar ram (Model#: CMX512-2700C2 ) and I want to be able to use onboard video for a while then pick myself up a radeon 9700 or a 9800 pro and have no conflicts ? PLease email me or post a reply . Oh and is this board come with  IDE 100 or 133 ?
THe only thing wrong with this board is that the audio connector is in the way if you wanted to put a pci card in that slot. )
:P BY the way Im upgrading from a kt266 msi motherboard with 512 RAM, Amd 1700 and aN Ati 9000. :P

You can read the specs of this board on MSI's website directly to answer those types of questions...
Reagarding your memory, don't take my post lightly as most ppl have had major problems when buying cheaper memory for this board...it's up to you what direction you want to go in regards to this...have problems or don't...Mushkin is a great buy for it's stability and O/Cing ability if that's what you're into...
Most of the ppl are rolling the dice with any of the nForce2 boards out there right now being that they're new on the market, if you want assured no problems go with something a bit older and that should be cool...
I wouldn't rely on using the onboard video if you plan on gaming...most are having issues with it...
MSI and ATI are working on a known issue with Radeons and this board right now and hopefully will release a new BIOS to fix it soon...only have problems on the 1.3/3.4 ILSR/IL versions tho...
There are other issues regarding this board, do a search on this forum and you'll read for days heheheh
I did like this board when I had it working tho (I haven't tried to fix it yet so...) it was fast and the sound was great!! Overall I like the board, but you can't skrimp on memory costs or PSU cause this board is power hungry..
    Cheers!! 8)

I am planning to buy an iMac 21.5 inch with Fusion drive and 16 GB RAM while i visit USA for a conference. My country of origin is India and the option of configuring to my need is not avaialble here in India. My concern is once i am back to India, will my iMac be covered by the Apple's Protection Plan if something goes wrong here in India?
I recently came across some posts regarding International warranty related issues for iPhone and iPad....hence this crossed my mind...
Waiting for response from the support group members...

    Thanks Ralph
This essentially means that if my iMac develops some problem (both software and hardware) in my country (India), it will be completeley attended (even the whole system requires replacement) by the AASP in India...is that what you say?

Looks as if you're just at the minimum specs - http://www.apple.com/logicpro/specs/. Says 2GB minimum, 4GB recommended. And 2GB of RAM is all the RAM the 1,1 can handle. If I were you I would call Apple's App Store service center - you have the minimum requirements, as I read it, but perhaps you need a faster processor?
I had a 1,1 but sold it when I bought my late 2011 in March of this year - maybe it's time to look at a new machine?

you can upgrade to 16GB if you wish to do so...
average price for 8GB 1333MHz DDR3 is around $50 - $75 depending on the brand.
why not spend $100 and go with 16GB 1333MHz from Crucial or Corsair.
you can get them from Amazon.com or newegg.com
see image below with 16GB Patriot Mac Series 1333MHz for $100.

Hey guys, I wrote a big long speech trying to be more clear and was just getting more confusing. LOL
Hopefully this image makes my question a bit easier to understand. In green you can see how the up and down arrow keys land while in Final Cut. In red how they land while in Premiere. I'd like them to land like Final Cut. Thanks!

  • Apple Specific RAM vs. Generic RAM

    Aloha MBP Friends,
I was just trying to decide if I should buy Crucial memory or Crucial memory that is specifically marketed toward Apple machines.
All the specifications look identical as far as I can tell, but is there possible some little thing that Apple RAM needs that normal RAM doesn't have?

It's 195 + shipping and you get a 75 dollar rebate if you send your original 2 gigs to them. That's dirt cheap.
I looked into that deal as well, but from what I see on their rebate page the rebate's only $30. Are you gettin' a better deal?
