Debug Javasctipt in Adobe Captivate

What is the best way to debug JavaScript in Adobe Captivate?
Using the below tutorial I am trying to set a cookie that remembers the menu of sections that have been viewed when the browser reopens. Basically sets and loads 6 variables with a cookie. But it's not working and I can't find the JavaScript to debug in Chrome. Alternately does anyone know of a better tutorial for setting cookies in Captivate then this post?
Eating JavaScript Cookies with Adobe Captivate - CaptivateDev.com

Supposing you don't use a LMS, this could be the work flow:
Add a Text Entry Box in the beginning of the course to ask for the name. If you want to be sure that they really do enter a name, have a look at:
Where is Null? - Captivate blog
Each Text Entry Box has an associated user variable. It is created automatically with the same generic name as the TEB, but you could better use a more significant name for the user variable:
Save Time: Create Associated Variable for Text Entry Box while Defining this TEB - Captivate blog
On the Score slide, insert a text container (caption or shape) in which you insert the user variable, using the X button in the Properties panel of the text container; it will appear between $$ and be replaced by the value of the variable on runtime

  • Adobe Captivate Error

I'm using Captivate and at the end of my development process, I tried to insert a "click box" in the file while review my final project. I received a Microsoft Error Message... Adobe Captivate has encountered a problem and needs to close. I'm asked  to select three options... Debug, Send Error Report or Don't Send a report. I limited my presentation to 50 slides, I've removed any graphics but still receiving the message once I close and reopen and attempt to edit the file in any way. What is the deal? Why is this happening? I've also tried to do a "Save As" and write over the original file and rename the file as a new file. I've also tried to open another file in Captivate, copy a click box in the other file and past the click box in the corrupted file. Why did this happen? anyone know?

I'm having the same issue only when trying to import slides from another project. Did you ever figure it out?

  • Adobe Captivate LMS Compatibility Guide - Anyone Interested??

Why is it so hard to find information about Captivate LMS Compatibility?
I'll admit to being somewhat frustrated with the lack of easily procurable information about how to make Adobe Captivate content compatible with the plethora of LMS products now flooding the marketplace.  (There are over 100.) I had hoped for years that Adobe would put up a site (or at least a page or two) that listed LMSs and laid out the correct settings in Captivate to use for each one.  Sadly this hasn't happened.  And the search function on this forum seems to be broken, which makes it more than hard to find information about a given named LMS.
So in desperation I've decided to try and provide a venue for this type of information myself.  I'm going to reserve a section on my website at www.infosemantics.com.au for information specific to Adobe Captivate LMS Compatibility.  I'll be listing anyLMS products there for which I can procure information related to using Captivate.  Headings on each LMS page will overview the LMS functionality, compatibilty with SCORM or AICC standards, any known issues with compatibility with Captivate content, what Cp quiz settings other users have found work successfully, as well as any modifications to templates, or workarounds that have proven useful.
Naturally, I only have access to a small number of LMS products for testing. So I'm enlisting help from any LMS users on this forum to provide suggestions and information collaboratively.
Here's what I need from you:
Simply go to http://www.infosemantics.com.au/contact and leave a message stating the brand and version of LMS/s you use, and a contact email address where I can reach you for information on how you got your Captivate content to work with it.  I will add a new page to the LMS Guide covering every LMS for which people offer information and add the info under each heading.  Each LMS page will also allow comments so that other users can offer feedback and suggestions.  If the volume of response is to high for mere comments, I can add a forum for each LMS where users can exchange information on what worked for them.  User's interested in a given LMS can subscribe to that page so that they will be notified via RSS of any updates to information.
I intend to create test projects in Cp5 that have various combinations of Quiz Settings which (according to user feedback) SHOULD WORK on each LMS.  You'll be able to download these zipped SCORM or AICC packages to test on your own LMS as well as the Captivate project files (cp and cptx format) used to create them, so that you can see the settings used.  Hopefully this will help you to debug compatibility with your own LMS.
You can also leave a message on the contact form if you are trying to use a particular LMS but haven't had much success and would appreciate getting information about it.  I can't promise to find the answers, but someone else that chimes in might be able to do so once they know you're looking.
My sincere hope is that over time this resource will build into something that will save a lot of time and angst for every Captivate developer trying to work with an ever-growing number of LMS products. More and more clients have them.  But it's a minefield out there.
Anyone interested in participating in this attempt?

No, I'm not only concerned with Cp5's LMS compatibility.
I intend to put up information about all Captivate versions that anyone can supply information on.  Most likely this will be from about Cp3 onward.

  • Adobe Captivate 6 XSS Errors with scormdriver.js

Using Adobe Captivate 6.0.1.240 and getting critical issue errors from Fortify scans by our security group. Does anyone know of a solution? I haven't been able to see issues in google queries and in the forums. --thanks
    EXAMPLE
    scormdriver.js, line 1032 (Cross-Site Scripting: DOM)
    Fortify Priority: Critical Folder Critical
    Kingdom: Input Validation and Representation
Abstract: The method WriteToDebug() in scormdriver.js sends unvalidated data to a web
browser on line 1032, which can result in the browser executing malicious code.

This looks like the code that outputs all the SCORM calls to a debug file (if the user invokes debug mode).
Dave's solution is probably the best one.  You could make this change in the scormdriver.js template in the Captivate install directory, but make sure you keep a backup copy of the unchanged file in case you ever need to debug something with your LMS.

  • To create a simulation tutorial of an iPad App using Adobe Captivate 08.

To create a simulation tutorial of an iPad App using Adobe Captivate 08.
The solution I got is to use Reflector App to mirror the iPad on to the PC and then record the screen. And to show user taps (essential for creating a simulation) through the reflector, NRTouchPoints, a UIWindow subclass that simulates user touches on the screen, has to be included in the application. Has anyone tried this out? Is this suggestion feasible?

After developing the .swf, I'm creating a .apk (Android application
package) file which includes the finished .swf file (at 720x1280), 3 icon
files  (one of which is used as the button on the Android screen to start
the app), the required .xml file (which holds the necessary info on how
    Android uses the .apk file).
The finished .apk file is then uploaded to the Android device using the adb
(Android Debug Bridge) commands in a command prompt.

    Hi,
I am using Adobe Captivate 5.5.
1.In a slide I assign a variable with "active" or "disabled" when user clicks Active button or Disabled button in that slide. This I do with Javascript.
2.In the next slide I am able to retrieve the resultant (active/disabled). And I want this result to be displayed on a button as a label or display in a Test Caption. Is it possible to do. If so how?
    Please suggest.
    With thank and regards
    Krishna

I am able to save the text in a java script variable and show the same in an alert (as you observed) but not clear/sure how to assign or save it to a user defined variable in Captivate. Kindly suggest how to first create this user defined variable  and how to displays the contents in Captivate.

  • Is there any other way to get Adobe Captivate help?

    Hi guys,
is there any other way to get Adobe Captivate specific help? I've posted a question twice with no help, it's very specific, so no one here might actually know the solution. I'm wondering though, since the chat is obviously not for Captivate users with product or service questions.
Is there a tech team I can somehow contact? We really need an answer to the problem.
    Thanks,
    Nat
P.S. I'll post the problem again here:
We publish mp4 training videos as HTML5 content and have the problem that we need to restrict the player to only play/pause.
Adobe Captivate 7 works fantastic for us on almost all devices, many Androids, many browsers, and even on iPad. Captivate, after adding the video as a multi-slide video to one slide and publishing it as HTML5 content, only lets the student play and pause the video - just what we need.
But then we test it on iPhone and the iPhone's internal quicktime player recognizes the mp4 video and kicks in, gives the student all the functions they want, totally overrides the HTML5 published Captivate restricted playback options.
Is there ANY way we can get around that? Any function or box we haven't checked before publishing the HTML5 content?
We would even be happy, if the video wouldn't play on iPhone - just as long as they can't use it to fast forward to the end of the video.
Does anyone here know how to bypass the internal iPhone 5 player?
    Thanks,
    Nat

By the way, I have updated to the newest Captivate 7 version and am using iOS version 7.0.4.
Again, it's fine on iPad, but not on iPhone 5.

  • Adobe Captivate 4 "Blue Screen" on editing "Preferences"

    Hi there,
I am using a professional license for Adobe Captivate 4, from work. So it's not a personal copy and I cannot just do a clean install without difficulty.
Anyway, I was using the system fine, and taking an online training about the tool, and half way through my application will now "blue screen of death" when ever I click on "preferences" for even a blank, brand new project.
I've searched through the forum, this site and googled for it, and the only solutions I can find are to update drivers (which I've done with the help of IT support), update firmware etc which is already up to date, and lastly - to delete the captivate folder, reboot and start again.
None of these have worked. Has anyone else ever had an issue like this?
Do I need a clean install? (this would be a pain as I cannot directly install it myself).
    Thanks!

Try deleting the Captivate preferences file - captivate_v40.dat - found at ..\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Captivate. This would probably solve your problem.
(in Win XP go to Start - Run and then type %APPDATA% to open up the correct directory. In Vista / Win7 type %APPDATA% in Start - Search)

I've tried using videolan and some other downloaders but they don't seem to be working.
I may be going about it wrong, does anyone have suggestions?
I'd like to have them downloaded and saved to my computer so I don't have to access the internet.
    Thank you!

Thank you for your help, your suggestion worked for the video! But, I found it doesn't work with all the videos on the site.
For example, the download icon will not light for this video here: http://www.volume11.com/ddsgn150/weblessons/weekone/WeekOne_1b.htm

  • Adobe Captivate 5 published as pdf not displaying in certain versions of Adobe Acrobat and Reader

We have an issue where upon publishing files as a pdf in Adobe Captivate 5, they will not open in Adobe Acrobat Pro (9 or 10) or Adobe Reader (11).  However, they will open in Adobe Reader 10.1.4.  I have searched up and down these forums and google, without any solid resolution for this issue.  We are running Windows 7 64-bit machines.  It should be noted, that if we publish as a exe, it works without any issues.  See below for other threads with same issue (but no resolution), and a screenshot.  Thanks!
