Debugging on Nokia device

Hi,
I have written a J2ME application. I have some problems when I run the application on Nokia 3230 device. Is it possible to view the debug traces from the device? I have a data cable connection between mobile and PC through USB port.
Thanks,

  • Which Nokia Device should I buy ?

    Dear Friends,
My interest is watching movies and so I want to
use the device as a DVD player. This means I download
the movie direct to my device or to my pc and then to
my device and then connect the device to the TV and
watch the movie. In fact I have seen a friend who
connected his N95 8g by cable to the the TV and played
Spiderman 111 and the picture was terrific. But the
thing which I did not like about N95 8G is that it
    has no external memory card.
Therefore friends can you tell me which is the right
Nokia device for me. Is N 82 the right choice?
The connection to the TV must be by cable like the
cable used by N95 8g not wireless as I will never be
able to connect my device wirelessly to the TV. You
see I am not good at these things.
Thank you in advance for your kind response.

By the way is the screen of N 82 same as N95 8G?
The N82 has the video output for a television with the cable and so does the N95 8GB, but if you want to watch videos - the N95 8GB is better because of the massive screen.

pls help, i had to reformat my N85 due to a virus which cause my phone to auto browse.  After which i can not anymore send files to non-nokia phones thru bluetooth but i am able to receive.  I can even pair with non-nokia devices but i just CANT SEND OUT FILES (my phone says....NO BLUETOOTH DEVICES AVAILABLE) what could be the problem?

    Hi Reuben
The Firewall does and doesn't need fine tuning.
In 10.5 it was not implemented properly and the 10.5.1 update was supposed to care of that.
It allowed everything in no matter what setting you chose.
It is best then that if you set Allow Specifics before the update that you clear the list and set it back to Allow All before going back and Resetting the Allow Specifics and adding apps back.
It may pay to check ports in a modem or router.
GoogleTalk logs in on port 5223 and uses an SSL login to do so.
Jabber also uses port 5220 for most other things.

  • Blackberry Enterprise Activation for Nokia devices

    Hello,
My company's policy for the activation of BlackBerry devices is to go through wireless Enterprise Activation.
This option does not seem to be available in the BlackBerry setup screens of the Nokia E70.
    1. Does anyone know if Enterprise Activation is supposed to be available on Nokia devices?
    2. If not, what should be done by our IT administrator (on either BES or Exchange) to allow the activation via the BlackBerry Connect Desktop application to work?
    Regards,
    Yata

You can most certaily connect your E61-1 to a BES server as long as you use the Blackberry connect desktop application and PC suite together on the computer that has the MS-exchange e-mail accout setup on it in outlook. We have our onw Blackberry server and I have set it up on an E61 for a staff member with no problems at all using the software mentioned before.Message Edited by serenity on 06-Feb-2007

  • How to remove the default exit option on MIDP1.0 on Nokia devices?

My application Astral effects displays visuals. It can not use any commands, because they cause conflicts with the visuals. Events from soft keys are handled through the keypressed method instead. I have made one Nokia version and one version for all mobiles with MIDP2.0.
I have also made one version for all mobiles with MIDP1.0. It works on all brands except Nokia.
When a soft key is pressed on the Nokia devices, the keypressed method never gets called. Instead a default exit option gets activated. It leaves the user with only one option, to exit the application. So how do I remove this default exit option?

You must also take care of the fools that "convert" any other file (*.txt, *.xls, *.pdf, etc.)  to tdms by simply changing the extension in explorer.
(There are a few people here that "convert" *.bmp to *.jpg this way because attachments of bitmaps are not allowed. Just because the browser is smart enough to still display it despite the incorrect extension does not make it a jpeg image. Others write to an ASCII formatted txt file but give it an *.xls extension. While this does not make it an excel file, it forces the file to be opened by excel, which does its best to make sense of it. Works most of the time ).
Clearly, you need to check for proper extension after selection, but you should also handle the errors properly if the file is name *.tdms, but actually is something else.

  • Cannot send emails via NON-NOKIA devices anymore, ...

I have two Nokia devices 1 Blackberry and 1 iPad. I've never had a problem with OVI mail on any device before. It now says that the "outgoing mail server" is not responding so the mail then just goes to Outbox both on my Blackberry and iPad. I have redone my settings and still nothing. It has been working for years until now. Amazingly only my nokia's work fine. Incoming mails are perfect though. Could anyone assist with this mysterious block in the outgoing mail server on non-nokia devices?

kosh mentioned somewhere that NM is phasing out of S^3 devices. this came as a shock AFTER one user reported his experience with NCC.
taking a cue from there, i would imagine that nokia is crippling restructuring its services one by one, and we should not be surprized about anything.
coming back to your ovi.com account, it is a simple IMAP stuff managed by yahoo. i don't understand why you have a problem. unless ovi.com mail is being phased out as well?!

  • (PC and Surface 8.1)bad pool header error: remote debugging using ARM device

    Tools used:
    Microsoft Visual Studio Professional 2013
Remote Debugger Monitor (Surface RT 8.1)
I have successfully activated the developer license as administrator.
I have attempted to run the test app on remote device but my pc crashes before or when reaching certification.
So far, I have attempted to run an app software for the ARM device; however, ever since I have upgraded the surface to 8.1, I constantly get the bad pool header crash, even after successfully connecting the pc to rt device.
is there any way I can resolve the issue so I can successfully to remote debugging?
    any help is appreciated.

im using actionscript mobile project air 3.4
    im using windows 7
    ==================offtopic====================
also how do i add icons for iphone?
Thank you for your time! Cheers!

    Hi ,
Please provide more info on the above issue:
1.What is the message shown when you try to debug the application via USB on iOS device ?
2.Are you able to debug on other iOS devices ?
Run this below command from commandline :
    "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash Builder 4.7 (64 Bit)\eclipse\plugins\com.adobe.flash.compiler_4.7.0.348139\AIRSDK\lib \aot\bin\iOSBin\idb.exe" -devices
Note:Make sure your  device is connected to the machine.
The above command should list all the iOS devices connected to the machine. If a single device is connected,Flash Builder installs application  on device and waits for debugger connection. If multiple devices are connected, choose device dialog will be shown.

  • How to debug adding usb device

When I add my new Iomega Helium USB HD to my Macbook Pro running 10.6.8, the screen and keyboard all freeze. There laptop has to be rebooted. It does this when I do it standalone and when I use external screen, keyboard and hub.
It is a problem with my setup because the drive works fine will all of the other Windows and Mac machines I have.
The cause was the installation of the Iomega software (why did I ever trust Iomega software?) as I only installed it on my macbook pro.
Can I run some diagnostics/debug to trace the insertion of the USB device to see where it is going wrong? I have manually uninstalled the software but I am convinced I have missed something.
I have a complete clone backup from before the installation but don't want to lose other changes (like email etc) since that day, although I am happy to restore specific files.
    Thanks

And it used to be fine until I installed the Iomega software.
Iomega software, i.e., software to use an external drive.  Never a good thing (I guess you are finding that out).
I always recommened external enlosures which are dumb boxes, i.e., their only purpose in life is to allow you to communicate with the drive they enclose.   Additional software only gets in the way and you shouldn't need it.
If that box was running fine without their software what prompted you to add it?   And why can't you uninstall it?

  • Debugging Crash on device

My app is very close to completion but it is crashing periodically. I finally was able to get remote debugging working from the device to my laptop but when the app crashed nothing was reported.
How can I find out information on why the app is crashing?
I thought is might be a memory leak but tracing system memory during my debug session show the memory to stay between 3 and 4mb.
I need help finding the source or the crashing so I can upload to the app store.

I had similar issues you describe. My memory meter reported that memory useage was actually quite low (less than 6 megs) but my app would quit with no error even in the debugger. The problem was due to me using very large bitmap images without calling:
    removeChild(myBitmap);
    myBitmap.bitmapData.dispose();
    myBitmap = null;
Basically the GPU memory was being gobbled up when I wasn't disposing of the bitmap when it wasn't needed and the app was closed by iOS automatically.

  • N900 Best Nokia device, but.....

N900 is so far one the best Mobile device from Nokia. However there are few things that I wished it is improved to make it flawless.
1- Speaker volume is extremely poor and low during phone conversation. My N95 has 2-3 times the volume and you can hear everything very clearly, especially when in crowd or in the car.
2- Camera missing extended zoom function. Again my N95 camera zooms much farther and photos come out crips and clear.
3- It can only be used in Lanscape mode with exception of Contact, phone and few apps. May be its just me but if I hold the device with one hand for extended periods of time due to its heavy weight my hand begins to hurt. I guess it was not designed to be used with one hand. Now if it could be held (with one hand) in upright or portrait position, then it fits nicely in the palm of the hand and there is no stress at all. Hope they can fix this one very soon.
4- Nokia/OVI Map is completely useless. I used it twice and it gave me inaccurate instruction, having me drive around town. Nokia pioneered the Mobile phone GPS system but they have yet to come out with a SW that is user friendly and works properly. Perhaps they can look at the Google map and figure out its ease of use and accuracy of information and implement it to their SW. Unfortunately Google map app is not available on the N900 and their generic Google map site does not have the needed features and ease of use.
I know that previous Nokia phones such as my N95 don't have any issues as stated above. Why would Nokia not use what works in their previous devices and change something that is clearly not favorable or beneficial to anyone.
Hope that these issues can be solved with update in future, especially the extremely low volume issue (it is almost as bad as the iphone)

I don't think you need them, just download Nokia Suite or Nokia Software Updater, they set themselves up as they install.

  • Debug on android device is completely broken. Any way to get it to work?

    Hi,
I have created a project for Android and I am trying to debug it on the device, with Flash Builder 4.6 on Windows.
I have set up the debug configuration properly.
When I try to start debugging, the progress bar gets stuck at "Determining which device to launch the application on" and keeps waiting forever.
Great. Then I've noticed that when this happens, there are TWO adb.exe processes running. So I've tried by killing one of them, and Eureka!!! This unlocks Flash Builder, which then asks me a stupid question:
"Adobe AIR is required to install this application: do you want to install it now on the device?"
This is a stupid question for two reasons:
1- my project is configured to be exported as an application with captive runtime, but hey, I guess this is not taken into account in debugging (too bad)
2 - I DO already have the latest version of Adobe AIR installed on the device!!!!!!!!!
If I select No, the debug is aborted. If I select Yes, it does some stuff, and then gets stuck at "Installing Adobe AIR..." and keeps waiting forever.
Yes, USB debugging is of course enabled on the device. Ah, it's a Samsung Galaxy Tab.
So, is there a way to get debugging to work on Flash Builder 4.6, or is it just hoplessly broken?
    thanks
    m.

Well, I see part of the problem is that AIR for android is itself broken. I install it on the device (from the Google Play Store), then it says it has been installed correctly, and then it is not installed.
I have an AIR application that I had installed previously, and when I attempt to launch it, it asks me whether I want to install Adobe AIR (which I have already installed like 10 times)
If I install Adobe AIR and then IMMEDIATELY run that application, then it launches!! But then, the next time I try, it will ask me again whether I want to install adobe AIR.
IS THERE A FIX FOR THIS?
