**Debugging Oracle forms***

Hi,
I am beginner to forms.
Yesterday i was asked a question in an interview - "How do u debug forms??"
when i visited forms help, it is not undestandable.
what is meant by debugging?...how can we do that?
Please tell me.

what is meant by debugging?...
Debugging Simply, it's the eye of the developper in which he/she sees ..how the code is executing..!
how can we do that?1- First,it depends on the version of forms u r using e.g. Forms 6i Debugging is different from Forms 10G. x
2. How, it's simply through entering values in a testing enviroment like a run-time form but we trace the code as by stepping into it line by line.
3. Starting by Selecting the Debug button in Forms 6i
3.a. A debugging window will be displayed.
3.b. Selecting the Trigger or procedure u want to debug.
3.c. Double click on the line of code u want to Star debuging
and similarly other interested code lines or functions or if statment
inside the piece of code u selected.
4.There is a Large Red X in the toolbar of the Debug Window u press it.
5.Then ur form will be displayed in Debug mode.
7.Enter ur Values ..pressing enter..u will be back automatically to ur code in design ; in the debugging window.
8.Select Step into or Step over Buttons from the Tool bar.
9.U have a node called stacked there ur entered value in run time will be displayed.
9.a.if u have loop or whatever..u will see how ur variables r changing ,etc.
10 .Repeat it as many as needed.
Enjoy it..! ))
Best Regards,
Abdetu..

  • How to debug oracle forms 4.5 application

    Ww have an application which is behaving badly. We have no documentation on it ,nor any source code. It seems to be written in Oracle forms 4.5 ( of which I know little) . There is an applications directory with about 100 files ,all with ending .fmx . these look like forms config files. I really want to find out what queries this app is sending and what it is receiving. Is there any way to decompile this application to get the source ?
    Thanks

    The FMX files are the compiled forms code, the executables. Without their FMB files you have no chance of getting at the Forms source.
    You could try to find out what queries they are issuing by finding the sessions (V$SESSION.PROGRAM should allow you to identify the sessions that connect through Forms) and thus the queries (through Userid to V$SQLAREA).
    However, without the source code there's not much you can actually do about it.
    Cheers, APC

  • Debugging oracle forms 11g

    Hi all,
    can anyone give me clear instructions on how to run a forms 11g form in debug mode (I don't mean debug_messages)
    do we have to chance anything on our weblogic server
    and what do we have to do to run in debug mode from the builder
    Kr
    Martin

    As Arunkumar Ramam... and spilgrim indicated, you have to add break points in your code other wise the Form will execute normally (except it will take longer to startup because of the debugger). To add a break point in your code, you can simply double-click on the left-margin of the line you want execution to break on. You can also click on the line you want to break on and press the F5 key to add/remove the break point.
    The Forms debugger can only step through Forms side code, not database side code. If you Form calls a database procedure, you will not be able to see what it does through the Forms debugger.
    While stepping through your code, the Debug Console default to display only the Program Stack. There are buttons to display Variables, Watch points, Form Values, PL/SQL Packages, Global/System Variables and Break points.
    Hope this helps,

  • How Do You Debug Oracle Report Calls From Forms On The App Server?

    I am working on a system which uses oracle forms and reports 10g.
    In our system we call, we are calling oracle reports from oracle forms. How do we debug the form code when the form and report both are running on the application server in production.
    To my knowledge, this can not be done when the form is running locally since there is only OC4J forms services locally.
    I understand one views error messages through the jinitiator console but how does one turn on this facility? How do you determine what line the error occurred?
    I am looking for step by step instructions as answer to this issue.
    Please be specific. Please write in good English.

    Good afternoon,
    If you have the developer suite installed on your PC, run the report from your form and then follow this tree from the start button on your PC:
    Developer Suite Home =>
    Reports Developer =>
    Oracle Application Server Report Services =>
    Reports Queue Manager
    Select View => Past Jobs and then find your report in the list, double-click the report entry and you'll see the error message that was generated by the Report Server when you tried to run the report.
    Good luck,
    Don.

  • Debug many forms in Oracle 6i

    I do not write very good English. I hope that I can describe my problem.
    I would like to debag my application in Forms 6i. The application has many forms and would like to follow the code execution.
    Unfortunately, in the Form Builder (version 6i) I can debug only one form. I would first form will run in debug, and then set a breakpoint in another form. Is this possible in Oracle Forms 6i?

    ifrun60.EXE your_form.fmx record=collect log=c:\log_file.logBetter known as "Forms Runtime Diagnostics", this will produce a log file of everthing that occurs in the Forms Session. I suggest you start with one Form and then review the log file to familiarize yourself with the log file output. This log file will include everything from rendering an item on a canvas to querying data to execution of triggers and program units, but it is very criptic. It is also very useful and I have solved numerous issues using this method, but it is not an easy method to use since the output is difficult to follow. Like I said, log a single form; look at the log file and make sure you can follow the change of events and then run your application.

  • How to debug a form module (Oracle 11G Forms) through URL

    How to debug a form module (Oracle 11G Forms) through URL.
    My server OS is Unix. So i could not able to do the Debug Forms from the Form Developer.
    It is displaying a message that "Cannot find the module". Becuase the system is trying find out the module in Unix system instead of ma local system(Windows).
    I need to debug ma module through URL.
    I can place the fmb and fmx in predefined form path in Server.
    Please help me out to solve this issue..

    This is a little unclear. If your goal is to use the Forms Builder Debugger while running your form on a Unix machine, this can be done. However, the form must first be in running order. So before trying to attach the debugger you must first be able to start it without the debugger. For example:
    http://yourServer:OHS_port_number/forms/frmservlet?form=yourFMX
    Once this is properly running you can turn on debugging. If your form won't even start, then using the Debugger isn't going to help you because it is designed to troubleshoot coding problems and not configuration problems.
    So, do this to use the Debugger:
    http://yourServer:OHS_port_number/forms/frmservlet?form=yourFMX&debug=yes
    This will display a dialog box with some information. Do not click on OK yet as you will need this information to enter into the Forms Builder. Now, open the Forms Builder and click on Debug > Attach Debug. You will be asked for the information displayed in the dialog where you attempted to start the form. Enter it here (in the Builder) then click on ok in both places. To display the Debugger (in the Builder), click on Debug > Debug Console. Then from its toolbar click on the buttons related to what you want to monitor. Including a break point in your application code is often a more helpful way to use the debugger.
    Most of this information is explained in the Forms Builder Online Help
    Forgot to mention...
    To debug runtime issues, refer to the Forms Deployment Guide here (this assumes you are using 11.1.2):

  • Oracle forms 10g (win Xp middle tier IE 8             Win 7- IE 8 client)

    forms services 10.1.2.0.2
    Database 11gR2 also on Win Xp pro SP3
    Hi
    I have a problem with java and Jinitiator and my understanding of what is / should be happening.
    In the file forms/server/formsweb.cfg see below. I can alter the parameter
    baseHTMLjinitiator=basejini.htm
    ###baseHTMLjinitiator=basejpi.htm
    between the two alternatives. As it stands as shown the IE8 on the middle tier and on the database PC both work as near correctly as i can tell. On the Win 7 client IE 8 however crashes. switch it to the other way around and the
    win 7 works and the win xp on the database server stops with frm-92095 error version number too low. while on the middle tier Xp PC a blank doucument is displayed.
    How can i have both working at the same time please. I you need more information i will happily supply it.

    You have a mixture of problems here.
    1. Oracle Jinitiator is not supported for use on Windows 7
    2. JRE 1.7 is not supported for use with any version of Forms on any platform. Be sure you do not have this version installed.
    3. JRE 1.6 is not supported for use with Forms 10.1.2.0.2, however is supported with 10.1.2.3 (10.1.2.0.2 + patch ID 5983622) and only with IE 8
    4. In order to use Win 7 with Forms 10 in a certified and supported manner, you must use 10.1.2.3 (meaning 10.1.2.0.2 + patch ID 5983622).
    In short, my recommendation would be the following:
    o Patch to 10.1.2.3 (assuming you have access to MyOracleSupport)
    o Don't bother trying to use Oracle Jinitiator as it is old and has been desupported for a long time.
    o Uninstall any instances of Jinitiator as it can cause conflicts with other JRE installations.
    o Uninstall all instances of JRE 1.7. Reconfig your formsweb.cfg to use the JRE (Java Plugin) 1.6.0

    Dumb dumb dumb.
    I was running this form out of Form Builder 10g. At some point I changed the Application Server URL (Edit => Preferences => Runtime menus) from:
    http://ssbuechl2.div16.ibm.com:8889/forms/frmservlet?config=ttmsmenu
    to:
    http://ssbuechl2.div16.ibm.com:8889/forms/frmservlet?
    So my customized configuration with all the WebUtil references was not being referenced and I was getting the error.
    Dumb dumb dumb.

  • Problem calling WebService from Oracle Forms created by JDeveloper

    Hi All,
    I am trying to call a Webservice from Oracle Form using JAVA Class created by Oracle JDeveloper.
    The Java Function (in JDeveloper) is as follows:

    Body requestBody = new Body();
    Vector requestBodyEntries = new Vector();
    requestBodyEntries.addElement(TagName);
    requestBodyEntries.addElement(ReadingTime);
    requestBody.setBodyEntries(requestBodyEntries);
    requestEnv.setBody(requestBody);
    Message msg = new Message();
    msg.send(endpointURL, "http://tempuri.org/GetPIValue", requestEnv);

    When this Class is Imported into Oracle Forms the Function is converted into the following PL/SQL code:
    FUNCTION GetPIValue(

    a0 VARCHAR2,
    a1 VARCHAR2) RETURN ORA_JAVA.JOBJECT IS
    BEGIN

    END;
    When I am calling this Function from Within Forms and Passing into it the Parameters, I am displaying some Debugging Messages. When the Code reaches "JNI.CALL_OBJECT_METHOD" there is NO RESPONSE from the Webservice and nothing is moving forward after this Point...
    A similar Webservice that can be Tested is:
    http://www.webservicex.com/CurrencyConvertor.asmx
    with WSDL file:
    http://www.webservicex.com/CurrencyConvertor.asmx?wsdl
    Kindly note that this Webservice is running properly from the Web Browser but the call from Oracle Forms is not Succeeding!!!! :-((
    Any help is much appreciated.

    Hi,
    Yes, you need to compile your source files with JDK 1.3 (since JInit 1.3.x.x uses JDK 1.3).
    Other solution would be to use JRE 1.5 (instead of JInitiator).
    Check out [this thread|http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=550563] on how to use JRE1.5

  • Java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: oracle.forms.handler.IHandler.getApplet()Ljava

    Hello to all
    I hope it is right forum for my question
    I have found for error I get in Directprint this following:
    When you migrate to the latest Forms version (10.1.2.3 or 11) and try using a JavaBean created with an older Forms version, you can get the following error, at runtime, in the Java Console:
    Exception in thread "thread applet-oracle.forms.engine.Main-1" java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: oracle.forms.handler.IHandler.getApplet()Ljava/applet/Applet
    The reason is you try to use a Java Bean compiled with an older Forms JAR file, like f90all.jar.
    So, to correct the issue, you have to change the Java code then re-create the JAR file:
    private Main formsMain = null;
    Replace:
    formsMain = (Main) handler.getApplet();
    by:
    // getting the Forms Main class
    try{
    Method method = handler.getClass()
    .getMethod("getApplet", new Class[0]);
    Object applet = method.invoke(handler, new Object[0]);
    if (applet instanceof Main) {
    formsMain = (Main)applet;
    }catch(Exception ex) {;}
    Then create and deploy the new JAR file to your /forms/Java folder.
    My problem is
    But I am very poor in java code, could you guide me to do what that article said, or pointing me where find instruction how do this following
    So, to correct the issue, you have to change the Java code then re-create the JAR file:Can I create Jar Directprint.jar, with command
    jar cf jar-file input-file(s)
    C:\DevSuiteHome_1\jdk\bin\jar cvf DirectPrint.jar DirectPrint.java
    Because when I open jdeveloper to associate (Creating JAR deployments using JDeveloper ) it got error (jdeveloper with debug

  • Oracle Forms 9i generation issue.

    Hi, I am developing a form using Oracle 9iDevelopment Suit. While doing the development I noticed a problem that the form is not behaving as per the code written. In debug mode the code runs as per expected. On making some changes (e.g. add a message and a pause) to the particular section of code and re generating it, the code starts behaving as per expectations. On doing further investigation I found that the size of fmx (the original one) was less by 30-40% than the one which was re generated with a message. This behavior of Forms generation is very inconsistent and I do not know how to resolve it permanently. If at all someone has faced such problem please let me know the solution to this.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Sachin.

    Hello Grant,
    Thanks for the reply.
    You are right, the form source code is from Oracle forms 6i. I did migrate this form from 6i to 9i. Then did some additional development in the form. During this developement I would have re compiled the entire form lots of time. This particular problem seems to apprear on few of the Item level triggers. I even know these triggers. On generation of the fmx I do test this form and execute a test case which ivokes the code in these triggers. Most of the times this trigger code fails to exececute as per behavior. Then I open these triggers and make a change in it (e.g. add a message or add a space and delete it immediatly) and recompile the form. The next time onwards the trigger code executes as per expectations. One of the trigger is Key-PrvBlk and other is Key-Commit. The code is very streight forward. It has a if condition on a variable and even if the condition is true the code present in the ELSE part is getting executed. In debug mode this works as per expected.
    The reason I have mentioned the size of FMX is due to the amount of difference. In both the cases listed above the size difference in FMX is aroung 400Kb i.e. 30 to 40% of the larger size.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Sachin.

  • Run Oracle Form Application from a JSP File.
