Decativating and upgrading elements 9

I have a couple of questions related to moving photoshop, if you would be kind enough to answer I would be grateful. I am replacing an old windows computer with a new one.
When we bought elements 9 we loaded it on to a mac and a windows computer. We only have one registration number, when I deactivate the registration on the windows computer it wont effect the mac will it? I would assume not
I would like to upgrade to elements 12 which I am running a trial version of on the new computer. Should I pay for and upgrade on the old computer before deactivating? and then use that registration to activate it on the trial that is on the new computer? If not what would you suggest?
Thanks

Sorry I think you misunderstood the question! I want to deactivate elements 9 on an old computer and pay for the upgrade to 12 and run it on a new/different computer Should I upgrade to 12 on the old computer THEN deactivate it?
Hope that is clearer thanks

Hi I have the old photo shop elements 10 on my computer and want to update and was wondering what the differences between photoshop, lightroom and photoshop elements are?
Also when I upgrade does it have to be with a monthly membership or can I just purchase the product out right like you use to be able?

You cannot "update" from what you have to any of the applications you mention. It will have to be a straight purchase or subscription at full price.
Photoshop is a professional level application that makes no apologies for its very long and steep learning curve.
Lightroom is all about volume, and very light editing.
The Photoshop Elements forum is at:

Remember, you are not addressing Adobe here in the user forums.  You are requesting help from volunteers users just like you who give their time free of charge. No one has any obligation to answer your questions.
I do not know where there is such a comparison table as you seek, but someone else might, or you can google.

Just bought an ugrade to version 13 for my photoshop elements11 and premiere elements 11.
What I did not know or did have to know is that version 13 is not compatible with Windows Vista (stupid me).
Is it possible to cancel my upgrade?

  • Why is the upgrade for Adobe Photoshop and Premiere elements more expensive than just buying them?

I currently have Photoshop and Premiere Elements 12 installed on my mac and when I go to upgrade to 13 the price increases from just buying the two because of the sale. Can I just buy them for the cheaper price and uninstall the current version? ..or do I have to upgrade and pay more money?

I don't want to have several full versions! I wanted just to upgrade it.
Whether you buy one "full" version and upgrade it several times or buy several "full" versions, after installation, the end result on your hard drive is exactly the same.
The only difference between upgrade and "full" is the price you pay at the time of upgrading.
If the "full" version happens to be cheaper than the upgrade then buy the "full" version. Nothing lost. Nothing gained.
A "full" version actually makes your life easier since you only need to enter one serial number if you ever need to re-install. With an upgrade, you have to enter the upgrade serial number plus the earlier version qualifying serial number - people often lose the previous version serial number.

I do not believe that you mentioned what computer operating system you are using for your Premiere Elements 11 and 12.
Although Photoshop Elements 12 may be lacking some of your Photoshop Elements 11 features, Premiere Elements 11 and 12 are essentially the same,  but 12 does give a few additional features which may or may not be necessary for your present or planned workflows.
Photoshop Elements/Premiere Elements 11 and 12 perform the same and well for me on Windows 7 64 bit. I cannot say the same specifically for Premiere Elements 12 on Windows 8 or 8.1 64 bit. Premiere Elements 11 is performing fine on this same Windows 8 or 8.1 64 bit where Premiere Elements 12 is not.
Just beware of any intergration perks that you might lose if you decide to pick and choose the best by mixing the combos, that is Photoshop Elements 11 with Premiere Elements 12 or Photoshop Elements 12 with Premiere Elements 11.
Bottom line: I would ask you to consider leaving the both versions installed until you decide what programming is in the best interest of your workflows. Key...use one Premiere Elements program at a time.
We will be looking forward to learning of your progress.

  • I upgraded to Premiere and Photoshop Elements 12 on 23rd September

I upgraded to Premiere and Photoshop Elements 12 on 23rd September from Premiere elements 4.
    Issue 1
Two days later Elements 13 comes out so I am immediately out of date and would need to pay the same amount again if I want to upgrade to 13.   That's a bit unkind isn't it?
A warning to wait a couple of days to upgrade would have been a bit nicer customer care. No?
    Issue 2
A further problem that's blocking me though - I upgraded by download and now can't install it to my home computer because all the links are to download 13 - where can I get a download of 12 now??
    Andrew in the UK.

    Hi Barbara,
Thanks very much for that link I will use it.   An upgrade would be very welcome and would cheer me up a lot.
Meanwhile, here is someone in the same position who seems to think there's a 30 free upgrade window.  I will check that out.

    Hi All,

  • Upgraded to LR5.7 and PS Elements 13.  Using a SSD which is becoming Full! Can I remove older versions of these programs without affecting the functionality of the new programs?

Upgraded to LR5.7 and PS Elements 13.  Using a Solid State Drive which is becoming Full! Can I remove older versions of these programs without affecting the functionality of the new programs?

Yes, there is no need to keep previous versions of software on the SSD (or on your computer).
Also, you didn't mention this but if the photos are on the SSD, you should move them off the SSD to a regular hard disk using these instructions: Adobe Lightroom - Find moved or missing files and folders

  • Price of Upgrade to Photoshop Elements 13 and Premier Elements from both in version 10

Since the Adobe site is almost impossible to use in resolving problems, and any reference to Contact Us means Forums not Adobe themselves (fancy a Customer wanting to Contact the Company themselves - the cheek of it!) could anyone please advise what the cost would be to upgrade from Photoshop Elements 10 and Premier Elements 10 to their respective 13 versions. Thank you.

Thank you for your quick response. Unfortunately after clicking through this link (and then a further 7 or 8 more) I got to a page that quoted £100 for the two. I''m sure this is a discounted price for a new purchase, and whilst I understand you will always get the full product when upgrading from one version of Adobe to the next, I do not think it is acceptable to charge such a large amount when I have already paid full price for a not very old previous version. Have I clicked to the wrong page? Does anyone have a link for direct access to upgrade that is at a much more reasonable price? Whilst I know software developers do not try and compete with large high street retailers, I believe I can purchase both Adobe suites as a package from a well known one for much less than this! Thank you.

  • Photoshop and Premiere Elements Upgrade to V8

    Hi,
I am very annoyed with Adobe. I just bought a copy of Photoshop and Premiere Elements 7 on Friday and guess what???
I have obviously opened and installed it and used it a bit. I cant believe that Adobe didnt mention/promote V8 in any way.
Anyway, does anyone know if there is a free upgrade to V8? Or is there a way I can reject V7 and get Adobe to exhchange it for V8?
    Cheers

I agree. Adobe has always been great at this, unlike some other software companies. Corel comes immediately to my mind. Seems that they offered a US$20 off of the upgrade price, when Painter XI came out, and one had just bought Painter X. Whoopie!
Going back a bit, Adobe did not even charge shipping and handling for media, within the 30 days. One got the full box with manual (if provided), and new discs. Do not know exactly how downloads are handled, as I have never gotten any Adobe product, except in the full-boxed form.
If you purchased from the Adobe Store, they'll have your S/N and records, but I've have a copy of my receipt handy, just in case. If you bought from a retailer, have that receipt and S/N, when you make the call.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • I have Photoshop Elements 8 and upgraded to Plus but am unable to access themes, content , etc.

I have Photoshop Elements 8 and upgraded to Plus but am not able to access themes, content, etc. that are Plus eligible. Any suggestions? I have tried twice through support and online to no avail.

When I'm in Editor, I see the themes, some have a gold bar (which I understand is for Plus people) these are the ones that I can't use, when I click on them, nothing happens. When I click on the others they open fine. I haven't opened both Elements and Premier, just Elenments 8 as that is what I have. I'll check it out. Is it possible some some setting that needs to be changed? Thanks for your help!

Well, I don't work for Adobe or Photoshop.com -- and I don't know enough about your situation to even guess.
    But:
    a) You've logged in to Photoshop.com with both Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements, right?
    b) Both programs are fully registered and activated using your Adobe ID, right?
    c) In Premiere Elements, under Themes, do you see any themes listed that have a blue or yellow ribbon over and upper right or upper left corner?

  • What do i do with a very slow Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements on a PC?

I seem to be getting mixed opinions as to why my Adobe software gets so slow, despite efforts to avoid that, but my computer seems to be working just fine, it is only when in Adobe that the problems arise, like freezing, taking longer and longer periods of time to open the screen to edit a photo, or to compare two photos side by side.  Any process seems to take such a long time, and the freezing can last for several minutes, and then continue on.    I have had a computer person come to my house and examine my computer and though his knowledge of Photoshop is limited, he feels that it is NOT the computer but something with Adobe Photoshop.  I would tend to agree with him.
Several theories have been explained to me, such as Elements and Premiere Elements are a low end of the scale of Photoshop programs, so it is just not going to be able to process high definition large photos well and quickly.  Stating comments like i can only use 2 GB of my memory even though i have 8 GB, so unless i can use 64 bit this is what i have to deal with, and it is just a way for Photoshop to say you need to upgrade to the fancier programs.  I do not need fancier programs.  I am working hard to master these, and have accomplished 4 great blu rays in high definition thanks to recommendations from the Forum here, especially Steve with the help of his books.
Others say i need a solid state hard drive to solve the problem.  Others say the only way i will ever solve the problem is to switch to a MAC.  Others state is a mal-ware problem, but i have never had my hard drive so clean and uncluttered.  I supposedly have as good of PC as i could have as far as QUAD-core, 8GB memory, presently a 1 TB hard drive less than 1/2 full.   All suggestions involve big outlays of money, with no guarantee that things will be any better.  I have tried to contact different computer companies and computer 'nerds', and these are some of the suggestions, but no one really has a lot of knowledge of the Photoshop software.
I am thinking of adding an additional internal hard drive, but not sure that is going to help either.  Could i put all my Photoshop of the second hard drive, and might that speed things up?
Adobe is rather worthless in trying to get help from them.  I have spent hours on the phone waiting and then talking to someone who says they understand English but they do NOT understand the question i am asking, which becomes very frustrating with repeat phone calls.  I gave up yesterday trying to do that challenging experience yesterday after i had spent 3 times the amount of time they said i would need to wait to get a reply, and i was at work, and my free time had come to an end.  So i am hoping you guys can give me some clues of the best thing to do.
Is it true that Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements are just such a lower end program that trying to do things in high definition, with 2000x1500 photos, making them into a blu ray disc is a major challenge with a PC?  I wish i had a greater computer knowledge, but i have struggled to achieve my goal, but the speed of it all gets very frustrating, though it is possible.
Another question asked which i don't think exists, is whether there is a program that could clean up Photoshop, or are there some clues that could accomplish that and thereby speed things up.
Would appreciate any suggestions anyone has.  I am in the middle of another project so now is probably not the best time to consider any major changes.  But any comments would be appreciated.
    Ron

Premiere Elements 10 is now 64 bit, but not PSE10.
Take a look at your scratch disk set-up and if you have a spare volume, allocate that first before the C drive. Elements use scratch disks when it gets low on RAM.
Turn off face recognition and the auto-analyzer to improve performance.
When editing photos or videos check the task manager to see what background processes may be running and end them temporarily if not needed.

  • IPhoto 11 and PS Elements 10 - external editor issue

My Imac has been upgraded to Mountain Lion, iPhoto 11 and PS Elements 10. Now right-clicking shots in iPhoto browser brings up external editor choice and will then open PSE 10, but not the shot ( I have to drag shot to desktop, open with PSE10, save, import back to iPhoto - a huge step backwards). Same software ( iPhoto 11 and PSE10) works fine, albeit slowly) on my Macbook Pro running Lion. Please help?

You're selecting the wrong item as the editor in the Adobe PSE folder.  It's fooled a lot of us in the past.  This is the file you want to select as the external editor:
I may be preaching to the choir here but maybe the following will enlighten a bit on using PSE as the external editor:
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
Note 1: screenshots are from PSE 10
Note:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.
My apologies if you've already seen the above.
