"Deceased" Infintiy/HH3 network still operational

Hello,
Can someone explain the following phenomenon to me? I recently switched to BT Infinty; I was supplied an OpenReach VDSL modem and a HomeHub3. As I have been having some problems, Infinity tech support finally sent me a replacement HH3 (with its own, new, SSID and wpa2 key) to see if that sorts the problem. I completely unplugged the old HH3 - no power, no ethernet cables. I plugged in the new HH3. When connected via ethernet my MacBook Air (conected directly to the HH3) and my wife's MacBook Pro (connected via ethernet from the HH3 to an Apple Airport Extreme DualBand BaseStation) have functional connections to the internet.
Here's the part that seems strange: My iPhone4 and my iPad4 (and the MB Air when on wifi) show in the wifi settings that they are connected to the internet via the OLD HH3's SSID and wpa2 key! And the connection was functional - I could open webpages etc! So the old wifi network connection still worked even though the old HH3 is packed up in a box ready to ship back to BT. It was difficult for all my devices to connect to the new network with the new key. I had to tell the machines to forget the old network and do resets on the network settings in iOS and delete the network in MacOSX on the MBAir.
My question is: how did the old network continue to work? The BT tech support guy burst out laughing when I told him about it and said he hadn't come across that one before. Thank you for your thoughts.

Your mother-in-law is a witch is the only logical explanation I can think of.
I'll be very interested the hear the real answer when you get it.

  • Variant Config In Network - PS, Operation Deleted Without Dependency.

    Dear Experts:
We use the variant configuration to configure a network. The standard network have operations with and without dependency. The problem is that in configuration change in sales document, operations that NOT HAVE dependency are deleted (TABLE AFVC) and created again after change comparison, with another counter (AFVC - APLZL). This generate problems in our process, because the milestones attached are also deleted, and not created again.
Somebody had this problem? Some advice?

  • I get error message -3259 when trying to download Version 5 update for I  pad, yet the internet connection is still operational. Why is this?

When trying to upload Version 5 update for IPad after the download is complete and the files are being processed I get an error message - 3259 which says the internet connection is timed out but in fact it is still operational. The download is unsuccessful. Why is this?

Try temporarily turning off your firewall and antivirus software until the download has completed.

  • Can I have the back panel of my iPhone 5s replaced (it is damaged, but the phone is still operational) if i come into an Apple store?

Can I have the back panel of my iPhone 5s replaced (it is damaged, but the phone is still operational) if i come into an Apple store?

I have applecare plus, but this only covers operational issues or 2 accidental issues (ex., water damage, drop and phone operation is affected).
Apple would not be willing to charge me for the back panel and labor involved in replacing it?
    Thanks.

  • My phone suddenly went dark. But is still operational???

I was using my iphone as per regular and for reasons unknown the display shutoff and hard reseting it dosen't do a thing. The weird part is that it's still operational as my ringtone goes off when people call me. I'm trying to restore it from itunes but it prompts me to turn off findmyiphone via my iphone. That is not possible as the entire display is black. Help is greatly appreciated.

    Hello Yourmaingotoguy,
Turning off Find My iPhone can also be achieved via iCloud.com, as detailed in the article linked below.

  • Dialup networking using operator assist option not working on Windows 7

I know how to enable operator assist in Windows 7.  The issue is that when I click the initial Dial button I get a dialogue box stating modems connecting, I see the modem initialize but the connecting dialogue box never changes to
the second dialogue box that tells you to manually dial your number and hit connect when you hear the carrier from the far end modem.  I have tried different laptops running windows 7 and none of them work.  One has a built in soft modem, one has
a USB serial port connected to an external 3Com Courier modem and one has a USB modem.  Everything works on Windows XP, but none of the Windows 7 machines work.  I have tried this using Windows 7 Enterprise edition, and Professional edition.  If
I wait long enough I eventually get the 638 time out error but the modems connecting dialogue is still on the screen.  If I hit the cancel button it just cancels the operation and if I dial the number and hear the far end carrier I can't get my modem
to answer.  I have looked at the modem log file from both a working windows XP and a Windows 7 system and they are both exactly the same up to the point of the modems connecting dialogue box, the Windows XP log shows a Dial command
when I connect using the second dialogue box.
    Thanks in advance...
    Randy

    Hi,
Here are the details of the expected behavior (as observed by XP SP3 behavior):
    1. Both source and target modems are serial devices.
    2. Network Connections is opened
    3. Advanced menu -> Operator-Assisted Dialing is selected (enabled)
    4. Dialup connection is double-clicked and dialog to connect appears
    5. Dial button is clicked
    6. Dialog appears: " Pick up the handset and dial (or ask the operator to dial). Press OK immediately after dialing, then replace the handset."
    7. Customer picks up handset connected to line port of modem and dials live operator, operator picks up and forwards call to specified target modem
    8. As soon as customer hears target modem tone he hangs up handset and clicks OK on dialog from step 8.
    9. Dialog appears: "Modems connecting..."
    9. Modems connect
Here is the observed behavior in Win7:
    1. Both source and target modems are serial devices.
    2. Network Connections is opened
    3. Alt key pressed which brings up menu bar. Advanced menu -> Operator-Assisted Dialing is selected (enabled)
    4. Dialup connection is double-clicked and dialog to connect appears
    5. Dial button is clicked
    6. No dialog to pickup handset ever appears. Instead we see dialog for "Modems connecting..."
    7. Modems can't actually connect because no number was ever dialed. Opportunity to dial number to live operator is not presented to user.
This performance is by-design. The dialog box is not appearing because the service is running in session 0. Generally, user sessions are from session 1. Since the service is running in session 0, the dialog box wont be visible in other sessions(user sessions).
This session 0 isolation was implemented right from vista.. In XP, service is running in user session and hence user is not experiencing any problems.
Since this function is old and we won't fix it in Windows 7. But we could provide the workaround as below:
    Resolution
    1. Start->Run
       services.msc
    2. Start the “Interactive Services Detection” service if not already started.
    3. Right-click this service and select Properties
    4. Select Log On tab and enable “Allow service to interact with desktop”.  Click OK to accept the changes.
    5. Repeat step 4 for the Telephony service
    6. Make the OA call:
    a. Click Dial on DUN dialog
    b. Dialog appears, select “View the Message”
    c. Session switched by system – “Manual Dial” dialog appears
    d. Pick up handset and dial far-end modem, wait for far-end modem tone, click OK and hang up handset
    e. Click “Return now” – system switches session back to user session.
    f. Modems should connect.
    Best Regards,
    Annie Gu

  • Two Macs using separate Time Capsules on same network - The operation couldn't be completed. (OSStatus error 2.)

Six hours of configuration and I'm out of ideas.
    Here's the layout:
Cisco Cable Modem connects to my ISP. It uses DHCP to distribute IP addresses which is necessary as ethernet throughout the house is piggybacked on coax and the ethernet to coax adapter has a mac address and needs to take an IP address (DirectTV - not my idea). Though not my preferred config, this seems solid.
Cable Modem connects via ethernet (though this crazy coax adapter) to Downstairs Time Capsule (call it DTC). DTC is set to create network without using DHCP so that no duplicate IPs are dished out. No problems so far - everything works. DTC has a MacMini hooked up by parallel ethernet and the MacMini is set to back up to the DTC disk, called "Combo Time Machine". Back up is running smoothly, no problems.
On the same network there is another Time Capsule connected, called Upstairs Time Capsule (UTC). UTC is set to create network in bridge mode so as to repeat the network created by the DTC (to increase range). All of this is, network-wise, is working fine:
UTC is connected by parallel ethernet to an iMac which I want to back up to the UTC disk, called "iMac Time Machine". This is where the problem starts. It seems logical that one Mac could backup to one Time Capsule while a different Mac back up to a different Time Capsule, even though everything is on the same network, right?
So here's what I see while using the iMac to try to configure Time Machine upstairs:
    Looks good, right?
It's as if the Time Machine software confuses the two Time Capsules - it's asking for the Downstairs Time Capsule disk password, not the Upstairs one as it should be. Still, I try the password and here's what I get:
"The operation couldn't be completed. (OSStatus error 2)" means nothing to me... little help?

I have an idea this is going to take some working out.
What IP is the upstairs TC and what IP is the downstairs one?
Can you ping them both please by name and by IP address?
Can you manually mount the share you will use for time machine in the iMac upstairs..
In finder go, connect to server.
    Type in the name AFP://user@TCname
You will then be asked for the password and it should be able to be stored in the keychain. Then select that for TM.. if TM still carries on, reset it and try again. See A4 here.

The double entry and refusing to join the right disk is a Mountain Lion trait.

  • OS X 10.5.3 update... Does Time Machine over network still work

Anyone updated to the new 10.5.3 and know if Time Machine still works over the network via AEBS?

I was hoping 10.5.3 would fix things for time machine/time capsule, I had issues with it hijacking my laptop and the network doing fsck_hfs. So I looked forward to fixes, had been doing only back up now, since having to reset everything. I tried it, it took an our to get past preparing, then had 15 meg out of 2 gig backing up, stuck there for hours. I finally killed it by dismounting the disk. When my disappointment reduces I may try a fresh start. I am sure they worked very had on it.

  • Lost AirPrint to iPad, other machines on network still print?

I have three computers, including one iPad, on a network with my printer. All three have been working fine but now I am unable to print with the iPad. (the other two still work). The IPad seems to find the printer but there appears to be no communication between the two. I have reset the network, reset the iPad and reset the HP printer.

Could there be a job stuck in the Queue in the iPad AirPrint app?  Can you see it in the multitasking dock?  If so, check to see if there is a job pending, and cancel it.
