Deceased Speakers

Hi,
I have recently been having a problem with my iBook's built-in speakers.
It will go from both working normally, to one, and occasionally back to two, then recently they both shut down.
I checked my System Preferences, the slider bar for sound balance is dead-center, the mute is not on.
Weird thing is, I still get perfectly good sound through my headphones. So it seems to be just the computer's speakers.
Anybody have any tips or ideas? (other than "send it in," as the last time I had to do that, Apple decided to mess up my computer's software for no apparent reason...see note at the bottom about my OS for details)
Any help is most appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

There may be some kind of reset which could be performed to see if the
computer's logic circuits may be at fault and not actually be a hardware
defect. But I am not sure which ones would be beneficial to this purpose.
Some I'd read about suggested resetting the power management unit;
while others suggested such fare as resetting NVRAM and PRAM.
Each series of Mac computer has specific instructions to do these
different things; and also there are reasons to be wary of applying
any old reset to hope for a magic cure.
It probably is the output jack.
Since you get audio through the headphones, the audio output jack
may be stuck; these sorta feature a mechanism that acts like a
switch inside the jack and that may be stuck or broken and now
just supply the headphones with power/audio and not revert to the
internal speakers. Since the phones work, the jack is a likely cause.
I'm not sure if anything at all could show up as a result of using a
Hardware Test, since basic subtle items such as the jack being
stuck probably won't be noticed by the test. A technican would be
able to determine more by inspecting the computer.

  • T520 audio output to external speakers

I am trying to connect my new T520 to the external speakers I had used with my deceased desktop, and I don`t want to cause any damage!
The speakers (subwoofer and 2 small speakers) were connected to a lime green jack on my desktop.  My question:  can I use the earphone jack of the Lenovo for that connection ?  I assume so, just want to make sure...
BTW, the sound coming from the portable is simply abysmal....
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Yes.  You can plug the green speaker plug into the headphone/audio out jack.  It will work fine.
You can adjust the volume of your speakers in Control Panel>Hardware and Sound>Realtek HD Audio Manager.
Let us know if you have any other issues.

  • How do I set upmy Imac to allow using both my computer speakers and a Bose SoundLink system as outputs at the same time.  I can use one or the other, but not both.

how do I set up my Imac to allow using both my computer speakers and a Bose SoundLink system as outputs at the same time.  I can use one or the other, but not both.  From systems Preferences I must select one or the other.  I want both to work all the time.

    Hi,
I would recommend you to use 0FI_AP_4 rather using both, particularly for many reasons -
    1. DS: 0FI_AP_4  replaces DataSource 0FI_AP_3 and still uses the same extraction structure. For more details refer to the OSS note 410797.
    2. You can run the 0FI_AP_4 independent of any other FI datasources like 0FI_AR_4 and 0FI_GL_4 or even 0FI_GL_14. For more details refer to the OSS note: 551044.
    3. Map the 0FI_AP_4 to DSO: 0FIAP_O03 (or create a Z one as per your requirement).
    4. Load the same to a InfoCube (0FIAP_C03).
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

  • How can i use airplay with apple tv on a set of audio speakers?

    hello there,
i've got a problem with my stereo apple tv combination.
my TV does support HDMI so i can use my apple tv on my HDTV. only my audio is being played on my internal speakers of my HDTV. I do have a set of speakers. but it doesn't support optical audio out. so i was wondering if its possible to use an Airport Express en plug my speakers in there. then wirelessly send the audio from my apple tv to my Airport/speakers. do any of you think that thats possible?? cause i really can't find another way to transfer my audio to my speakers...
    Thanks alot!!

Unfortunately you can't send audio from the Apple TV to an airport express, but you can send audio from your mac/pc to the airport express via iTunes/Airplay, you could also send audio from an iPod/iPhone to the express. The express supports both optical and 3.5 mm in a unified port.

  • How can I get the iCloud/iTunes password for my (now) deceased Father-in-Law's Imac?  I have a list of his passwords, but nothing works!

How can I get the iCloud/iTunes password for my (now) deceased Father-in-Law's iMac?  I have a list of his passwords, but nothing works!  I know his email, but that account has been cancelled for security purposes, so we can't just request a new one.  I tried his security questions to no avail.
    Thanks

Since that password is tied to his Apple ID, you will need to contact Apple; as far as I know, it will be a somewhat lengthy procedure and you will  need to furnish necessary paperwork (including a death certificate as far as I know). Best to either stop at an Apple store or call them to find out exactly what it is you need to do.

  • ITunes 8: I can no longer connect to remote speakers via Airport Express

Cannot connect to my remote speakers, worked before iTunes 8"
I have restarted the computer, iTunes, QT 7.5.5, run disk utility
I get the following error code (-3256) Apple KB research says:
AirTunes: Error -3256 when streaming to multiple AirPort Express units
You may see this message: An error occurred while connecting to the remote speaker speaker_name . An unknown error occurred (- 3256 ).This occurs with iTunes 6.0.2 or later.SolutionIf you use a third-party firewall or router, make sure that it is configured to permit UDP traffic.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303157
I followed the KB link, tried KB solution, then I sent this off to Apple.
"Mac G5 2.0 Ghz, OS 10.5.4 just installed iTunes 8, one (1) Airport Express connected to remote speakers. Firewall under Sharing in System preferences does not offer firewall access. Firewall is under Security but "Advanced" is grayed out.
Cannot connect to my remote speakers, worked before iTunes 8"
I have restarted the computer, iTunes, QT 7.5.5, run disk utility, unplugged the airport express.
My G4 PowerBook running an earlier version of iTunes connects without problem.

I just got off a 30+ minute phone call with an Apple Support rep about this. I'm getting error -3256. The rep was patient and tried hard to solve the problem, but was basically clueless. I have a case number and was encouraged to call back tomorrow to speak with a product support specialist.
This stinks. AirTunes is my primary way of playing music from my computer. With no obvious way of rolling back to iTunes 7, this is a big deal.

  • ITunes no longer keeps speakers running on headphone jack

iTunes no longer keeps my external speakers running when connected by audio cable to the headphones jack. After 1:45 min:sec, my Logitech Pure-Fi Anywhere 2 speakers power down when connected to my computer playing iTunes.
The speakers do not power down for audio generated from other sources on my computer. When I play a video or audio file through Safari or another browser, the speakers work fine. When I listen to an audio file by selecting it in the Finder using Apple-Y ("quick-view"), the speakers run continuously until the end of the track without powering down. When I use the speakers configured the same way with other software (such as Skype), they work fine.
The speakers do not power down for audio generated from other DEVICES. When I plug the speaker cable into the headphone jack of either my iPhone 3Gs or my partner's mp3 player and play audio, the speakers work continuously.
I've looked at trouble-shooting for iTunes and found nothing on the Apple site or the web or in the iTunes preferences to keeping wire external speakers live during iTunes playback. I've tried having the speakers connected to a power source or running on batteries but the problem is the same. I've reset the speaker device with no change. I've reinstalled iTunes, no change. The Apple Store genius bar cleared all caches and restarted, no change. They reinstalled the computer system, but found no change.

    Hi Dexterdawg
Can you direct me to the thread as I can not sort out the same problem on my iMac
    Thanks

  • IPod Touch 3G w/ stopped working with car stereo/docking speakers

After I upgraded to OS 4, my iPod Touch 3g stopped working through the USB port of my car stereo (just says "reading" and never progresses from there). It also stopped working through the docking station (basically a large clock radio) that I bought for my living room -- it will recharge and play music through the speakers but the docking station and its remote can no longer control the music (can't advance to the next song or anything else), so I have to physically change things on the ipod itself.
I was told by Crutchfield (where I'd purchased the car stereo) that this was a known problem with Apple -- that with OS4, many of the devices that previous worked with iPods no longer worked, and that this would be resolved in a later version of the OS that would provide some backward compatibility. However, I can't find anything at all about this.
If anyone knows more information about this, or has a link to where I might be able to read more, I'd appreciate the info. I selected and installed both the (almost new!!) car stereo and docking station specifically because they allowed me to connect and control my iPod, and now I've lost that functionality and the $$ I put into those devices (over $300 total)!

I apologize for posting a bit early.  Found an Alpine manual online and i needed to set the AUX port to off.  They also recommended a reset of the Touch.  After doing these two things it is now working.  Maybe this will help someone else.

  • Voltage question for Inspire 5200 5.1 Speakers

Hi, I'm new to the forum, so I'm not sure if this question has been answered in the past, but...
I just moved back States-side after living in Pakistan for about 6 months, and I brought my Pakistan-bought Inspire 5200 speakers. I don't know if I should buy a voltage converter or whatever.
On the AC adaptor, it says "PRL. :230V~50Hz 320 mA... SEC. : 2V ~ 4.2A". I read up a little on this stuff, and, unless I'm mistaken, in Pakistan, the voltage is 220V and 50Hz, while in the US, its 110V and 60Hz.
Is it safe to use the speakers here WITHOUT a voltage converter or a step-down transformer?
If it isn't safe, then what specific things do I need to pick up from Radioshack to make sure my speakers work and don't short-circuit or fry?
    Thanks.

If you use the right step down transformer than it's perfectly safe. The problem is, step down transformer worsen the sound a lot unless you use the very expensi've one. But if you can't hear the different than it's good then, trust your own ear anyway. I think the best way is to change the adaptor.

  • How do I select which bluetooth speakers to play out of? My iPod connects to both kitchen and living room speakers. My old iPod had a selection icon on the now playing screen, but my new one doesn't.

    Hi,
    Our setup
A new iPod Touch 5 with iOS 8.3.
Living room speakers that use a Logitech Bluetooth Audio Adapter.
Kitchen speakers that use an AmazonBasics Bluetooth 4.0 Audio Receiver.
The iPod connects to both but always wants to play to the kitchen. To play in the living room, we have to unplug the power to the kitchen speakers. Bluetooth settings screen doesn't let you select between Bluetooth connections. All I seem to be able to do is forget the connection.
We also have an old iPod Touch (not sure of the generation, but it has iOS 6.1.6). On that one, there is a little icon on the now playing screen that would open a little pull-down menu to let you select which Bluetooth connection to use for playing audio.
I don't see the "select output" icon on the new now playing screen
    Jimmy
PS the iPod seems very aggressive in connecting. I hear the living room speakers activate when my wife gets out of the car in the driveway. Then as she comes into the living room, the sound switches to the kitchen.

Thanks, this was the clue I needed to figure it out.
From Settings you can pull up Control Center.
In Control Center you can enable "Access from within Apps" (also "Access from Lockscreen")
Now when I'm playing music, I can swipe up from the bottom and a little control center window slides up. Neat - this is new since my old iPod. On this window, the name of the current Bluetooth connection appears. Tap on that, and a list of connected Bluetooth items appears. I just tap on the one I want to connect to and I am now playing through the speakers I want.

  • Can not select TV speakers when connected via HDMI

I have a MBP fully updated connected to a Sony TV vis HDMI/miniport.  Up until today this configuration was working fine.  Suddenly, I can no longer select the HDMI speakers in my audio preferences.  They are recognized and appear on the list but when I select them it has no effect.  Before today, when the TV was connected the HDMI output would be automatically selected and I could not access the volume control from the menu bar, which is the way I prefer it.
I have restarted with no success in changing this behaviour.  If I open/close the lid, the sound goes to the proper settings for about 2s but then the HDMI speakers are de-selected and the built-in speakers are highlighted.  I can manually select the TV speakers but the setting has no effect.
However, I *am* getting audio output through the TV but can not control volume from the mac or any app.  I slide the volume slider on the menu bar and the audio output does not change.  The sound is also playing from the laptop speakers which is highly annoying.

and now there is no audio through the TV at all.  TV works fine with other inputs such as PS3.  Any help?

  • Should I schedule a repair because my iPad's speakers sound a little scratchy at high volume levels when it's a high note or something like that, is this regular?

Should I schedule repair or is it normal?

You have my sympathy for your dilemma as far as aesthetics go. My previous iMac was the 17" core 2 duo and, like you, I think it had a nicer, more artistic look about it and it fit in well with the decor of my office. Even though they are basically the same in overall design, the newer aluminum models do seem to have a somewhat jarring industrial appearance. Nevertheless, I wouldn't spend that amount of money to repair an old machine just because I thought it looked better than the new models. I'm happy that I replaced my old white iMac but then I wanted the larger, brighter screen as well as the faster processor and better graphics card and all that other guy stuff . And now with the even newer and better iMacs out there it makes much more sense to go for one of those rather than to repair and keep your old one. More ram can be added very cheaply now and you can add a lot more to the new models than you have on the old machine. I'm not sure whether or not your old speakers would work with one of the new machines but a new set isn't really all that expensive and they might even be better. And actually, even though I noted earlier that the aluminum models have that industrial look (to me at least), those glass screens are great for graphic work. Much better than the old ones.
    Good luck
    Rick

  • I'm unable to play music or podcasts using the iphone4 speakers.

I tried all the things that I read on other threads isuggested as well and I still cannot get the volume buttons to work when I try to play music or podcasts. I read a post on another site where someone suggested the phone is "stuck" or confused and is in Doc mode. For example, I am trying to play music right now and my phone thinks it's playing and the source selected is "Doc Connector" (my other option is Apple TV). I know there is not a problem with the speakers or the buttons themselves because I can play a voice memo using the phone speakers and the volume buttons work.  Thanks.

if both itunes on the computer and on the phone dont show any then apple must not be offering that service in your country

  • IPhone 4 speakers are not working

    Hi,
I bought iphone 4 a couple of weeks ago in Sweden. It was working fine until yesterday, and then suddenly speakers stopped working. I couldn't hear any ring or alarm (no sound) and it does work if earphones plug in. I checked all the settings(of course, phone's switch was not in silent mode). However, calls work fine (i could sense the call by vibration though). I completely, reset the settings to factory using iTunes, but it doesn't help. I don't understand the problem? any suggestions ??

I'm having the same problem! The speakers just stop working. Sometimes I get sound again, but it lasts for about 10 minutes before it goes out again. Is there any other quick fix solution?
I know that Apple keep selling out and is out of stock with iPhone 4s. I don't want to send my phone in, as I will be without a phone for weeks, and there are no phones to get replacement at store. The phone is still usable... but this *****.

We had the problem with our new iPhone 5 using i.o.s.6.0.1.  So we updated to 6.0.2 and the problem continues. Sure worked great with the iPhone 4s though.
Makes me think we shouldn't have moved to the iPhone 5.
