Deciding on a new CPU for P6N Diamond

Hi all,
I'm looking at upgrading my cpu before moving to vista.  I'd like to get a nice extreme edition since this is my dream pc.  I'm pretty sure the QX6850 will work with it, but has anyone tried the QX9650?  I saw some of the other Yorkfield processors are under testing and will most likely work with the latest bios, except the QX9650.  I'd be will to buy the processor and wait for the next bios update, but I'm not sure if the next bios update will add support for that processor.
Thanks

Sorry for the bad news, but the P6N Diamond will NOT support any Yorkfield processors in the future.  Future bios updates will only support Wolfdale processors...not the new quad core series..:(  If you want to run a 45nm CPU, you will need to stick with a dual core or update to the 780i or 750i board.  Bummer.

  • Is it possible to install a new cpu for a Satellite C50D-A?

    [Computer Specs|http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/products/computers/satellite/c50/pscfwa-03j00k/specifications]
I am looking to see if anyone can help me find out if it's possible to change the cpu in my laptop, and what the limitations there might be for the new cpu, I would really appreciate any help. Also if you know a place that can help me with my situation it would really help, preferably in Sydney.

I know it sounds stupid now but why do you want to do this?
As you probably know CPU upgrade is not supported by Toshiba and hardware upgrade is very limited on mobile machines.
Only supported hardware upgrade is RAM and HDD upgrade. These steps can be done without some risk and you can do this on your own.

  • [945 Series] A new cpu for my MB?

While the performance of my P4 3.0 531 has been good, I'm wondering what you all think would be a good upgrade? I would like to keep my 945 Platinum board, but was thinking a new cpu would give me a little more power for games. Does "dual core" even matter when talking about gaming performance? Here in Winnipeg, you can get the P4 3.0 D830 for $400 Canadian dollars, or about $330 U.S. I switched from AMD to Intel 7 months ago because the game I was playing was older(2001), and my AMD didn't want to run it very stable. Now, I'm running newer games and while the difference isn't dramatic, it's enough for me to wonder if there is an Intel CPU out there for $400 bucks or less that would give me a noticeable upgrade over my current P4 3.0 531. Thank you.

Sorry it so long for me to get back. I'll list everything I can think of below.
     MSI 945 Platinum board
     P4 [email protected] running 26c, 34c under load(Prime95 for 8 hours)
2x512 sticks of Kingston HyperX DDR2 667 Dual channel
     ATI X700@475core/1020mem running 33c without OC'ing, 45c with OC'ing(3Dmark2001-21864,3Dmark2003-8908)
     80gig Seagate 7200rpm 8mg SATA
     Audigy 2 ZS
     Enermax 465 PSU
Thermaltake Bigwater cooling kit for both CPU and GPU.
If there is anything I have forgot, please let me know. I have recently read that dual core cpu's make no positive difference in gaming except for some newer games that support it. Is that true? Thanks again with any tips you have.

    Pentium 4 Extreme

    Quote
The major improvement to the Extreme Edition over the current Pentium 4 is the inclusion of an on-die 2MB L3 cache. This on-die L3 cache is in addition to the 512KB L2 cache, giving the Extreme Edition a total of 2.5MB of on-die cache. Note that this is identical to the Xeon MP (Gallatin) core, other than the fact that we're talking about a CPU that runs at 3.2GHz and has an 800MHz FSB.
The 2MB on-die L3 cache takes the Northwood's 55 million transistors and balloons it to an incredible 108 million transistors, which is still less than the Prescott's 125 million transistors.
    Starts at 3.2GHz!  8o
Definitely for those with extreme budgets only  ;(

  • Is there a new bios coming for P6N SLI Platinum for E8400 ?

         Hi everyone,
( My system specs are in the signature )
I have been thinking to upgrade my cpu to E8400, but after some time passing through the forums, internet and asking some of my friends, I have decided not to. This is because I have seen many people frustrated and trying get their E8xxx's working on their moboard with endless efforts because of the wrong information given in the CPU support list of P6N-SLI Platinum. Yet, I have seen that only a few people have managed to get it work but with risky, manual adjustments.
So here is my question, will there be a new bios for P6N SLI Platinum that will make E8xxx series post without any adjustments for the users that want to stick with their P6N SLI Plat.?

    Please ask here:

  • New BIOS for Diamond Plus any problem noted yet.

Anybody using the new BIOS for the Diamond Plus Version 3.09 BIOS.
I have got it installed and upgrade went will, but be ready for changes.  Go over you BIOS Setting each and every parameter, because they have changed a lot of the defaults, like all Network controllers are disabled by default.  The have made changes to the Hyper Transport Defaults setting they are what they should have been in the first place.
Marvel Yukon network controller drivers of old will not will not load and MSI USA download for the driver is off line. Tw site is not down but not taking new requests for the drive because of traffic load.  Old nVidia network drives loaded after I enabled on board LAN on in the BIOS.
That, all I have checked out so far, Oh yes the changes in Memory BIOS setting, but have not been able to check all of the out.  If some one with experience with memory BIOS settings could check them out and give report back it would be helpful.
We asked for it now we got it, for better or worse.
    Roger

Wow, funny how 2 gigs still needs a paging file with a standard desk top!
Of course, even funnier just how fast 2 gigs can be eat'n up with 3d rendering and audio/video encoding!
Just blowing my mind, remember when 32meg RAM was considered over kill?
    Ah those 3.1 days
that's not a bios issue it is a xp home and xp pro 32 bit issue.
if you want 4 gigs you need a 64 bit OS like server 2003 or xp pro 64 bit.
Yes it will run in dual channel but due to limitations you will have it run in ddr 333 *UNLESS* you have single sided 1 gig sticks.
Even with 4 gigs you will see slightly less than 4 gigs in bios, as a portion is Used there. once in windows you will see the full 4 gigs.
btw I am on my old P4 3.0e prescott as i sent in my two 7800gt's for the step up program.
They should be here by the 31st.
For what it is worth I have had 4 gigs working on this mb and cpu using ms's free dl of their 64 bit os.
It took me for ever to figure out why i was only getting 333 ddr and 3.5 gigs. this was 18 months ago.
When i ran a dual boot of the xp hom and xp 64 with 4 gigs, i did not see the support from my prefered software vendors.  So i sent back 2 gigs, and stuck with xp home. Now that i have the new amd i stepped up to xp pro 64 bit and love it.

  • P6N Diamond restart issue

Whenever I restart/shut down/hibernate my system, I am unable to boot it up again until it has been left to sit powered-down for about 30 minutes. If I try to boot before this interval is elapsed, the system powers on but does nothing (no beeps, no POST, etc.) except spin up the fans.
Anyone know why this could be happening? I have tried testing with minimal hardware (CPU and 1 stick of RAM only) and it still exhibits the same issue.
BTW, does anyone know why MSI decided to completely stop supporting the P6N Diamond, even though the other P6 boards are still receiving regular updates?

    Jack,
I have done that, but to no avail.  This is basically what happens:  I clear CMOS, wait a few minutes then start up the pc.  It posts fine.  I enter the BIOS config and load the optimized defaults. I save and it restarts.  Again, it posts fine.  A screen comes up listing the OS (Vista Ultimate 32-bit) with a 30 second timer.  I hit enter.  Several different things have happened at this point.  A few times, the microsoft name comes up with that scrolling light bar.  At that point it either just freezes or the screen goes completely black (with monitor still on).  Sometimes, instead of the microsoft name coming up, the screen goes black.  Sometimes, instead of either of those two, the screen is black with a flashing cursor at the top.  If I try to enter safe mode instead of starting Windows normally, a list of the needed files scrolls down the screen and stops once it reaches the last one.  Instead of then loading Windows, it freezes.  Sometimes just the first file name will be listed before it freezes.  If I try to boot to the CD, the screen goes black with a flashing cursor.  I've even tried booting to a bootable USB drive (which I used to flash the bios to begin with), and the screen goes black with a flashing cursor.  Before flashing the bios, all hardware and software worked fine.  Obviously I took a risk with flashing this beta bios (1.4b1), but if I couldn't get this mobo to work with the Yorkfield processor, I was likely going to get a new mobo instead of returning the CPU.  I would then just put the P6N Diamond in another case.  I'm hoping someone else has gone through this, though, and knows how to get this working again.  I don't have the yorkfield processor in right now.  I've been using my old dual-core proccessor.  I don't know if there's some setting in the BIOS config that needs to be changed that didn't need to be changed under the 1.3 BIOS or if I need to stick in the yorkfield processor for some reason.

  • Proper Planning for P7N Diamond

After several years of a desperately inadequate computer, I have decided to upgrade. Instead of a simple and easy (but less powerful) upgrade, I decided to build my own. I'll be frank; I have very little idea what I'm doing. I know possibly a little more than the average person, but I possess almost no in depth knowledge. I've selected the parts I wish to buy (haven't purchased yet), and I'm simply finishing up proper research and planning before I go ahead and make the financial commitment.
Here's the major components of the build, at least the ones I'm moderately concerned about.
    Quote
    P7N Diamond Mobo
    Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz LGA 775 Quad-Core Processor Model BX80562Q6600
    CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply Unit
    EVGA 896-P3-1260-AR GeForce GTX 260 896MB 448-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 Video Card
    Kingston HyperX 4GB (4 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) RAM
Western Digital Caviar SE WD1600AAJS 160GB and Western Digital Caviar Black WD1001FALS 1TB HDDs, both 7200 RPM SATA 3.0GB/s
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 32-bit
My main worry is the Mobo and CPU. While according to http://global.msi.eu/index.php?func=prodcpu2&prod_no=1372&maincat_no=1&orderby=cpu_name%20ASC#menu
Q6600 Quad is compatible, from what I've seen from a few other purchasers of these two there have been a few problems. Considering the Mobo is one of my biggest investments of the build, I want to make sure it can work with everything.
I am NOT CURRENTLY concerned with Overclocking and SLI (maybe further down the line, not right now).
To put it simply; using the P7N Diamond Mobo and the Q6600 Quad core CPU, what are some of the snags I might run into? Will the mobo be able to recognize the CPU right off the bat? Will I need to Flash the Bios? If so, I will need a Floppy Disk Drive, correct? Is there anything severely wrong with the PSU/Mobo/CPU/ETC that would require me changing anything?

A poster above is looking for P6n diamond it is available new from a Dealer on Ebay about 79.00dollars Shipped.i purchased an Asus p5e-3 premium wiFi open Box for 150.00 shipped 3 months ago no issues.he also auctions open box p6n diamond but charges 14.95 but people have won with 40.00 and it averages 50.00.
well i am typing from a P7n running a Q9550 2gigs OCZ 1150 running at 800mhz.No luck whats so ever getting past
2775 overclock.very frustrating but I probably have the original bios.i bought this on ebay at an Auction unopened. It was thirty dollars less with shipping than NewEgg even with the rebate they had.
this a great board i hope and I have to download the Latest Bios and try again.if I am still stuck will have to buy a Q6600go and fallow the various successful overclocks that are listed as i want a modest 24/7 stable overclock at 3.6.
I considered the P6N but having the crystaliser built in pluss the overheating issues with 680i boards coupled with the memory burnout issues decided to spend more money as I am a Semiprofessional Dj and needed something that will last me at least five years running overclocked.P7n has an extraordinary chipset cooler set up.i run old 486/386 fans blowing over everything.
I run two 8800GTX 768m and run 3 22inch lCds and 1 DLP projector and I am driving through the Soundblaster 3 5500 watt amps.MMX6 dj program waves Plugins.Having the ability to swap out the audio Card to another CSB specificaly for recording and midi key board was a Pluss.though could have done with that with the P6N diamond.
Part of my agravations with this board i think is that I am running Xp64 Bare to the bones as fast as linnux but a few minor issues like Asio crashing.i do not like vista but she is triple boot xp64 xp32 and shoosh dont mention it 32 bit 8&56^.
Hey was looking at the quad I think q8500 forgot basicaly same price as q6600 but tired of the hassles would prefer just to get it over with.read on other boards at idle q6600 at 3.6 runs 20-22c.
My board definitely has issues with 45n processors.  At idle 49-50c stock speed on a Modded OCZ II vendetta monster cooler heat pipes with TWO loon fans in push Pull??Well time to cut the Dribble and see what BIOS's are available.Probably I put the  wrong ram into this also.was a Bargain 19.00 shipped after rebate.expected the old style OCZ ram and got the new one same heat pipe desighn nicer lines.
amazing still eist is running only 5percent CPU usage temps stable but high.Going to crank up my audio editor reaper hmm let me ripp some CDs at the same time and see if this CPU will crank up.ah convert some vidio at the same time!
this board computer is also a DAW.My asus is used for vidio editing running a pair of Akimbos.and q9450 and a xifi .CSB of course!Building another asus p5k wi fi to run  connect to 8 wireless cameras so put this q9550 into the Asus vidio editor take the q9450 and get a q6600 for this board and be done with it.
Ah almost forgot the MSI update software etc does not work in my xp64 nlite.
just realised install it on the other partitions!!
forgot to mention the hassles and hours spent installing drivers on this xp64bit build.still have a minor issue my ethernet is labeled ethernet port then ethrnet port 2? and Xp64 keeps trying to Install a 3rd one on bootup?Afraid to uninstall #2 and go through the hassles I went through last week.I guess xp64 is not supported yet on this board just Vista 64 .Which I have on an Hp 9200t media center.i cannot use foul language  as to how frustrating Xp64 Vista is to me.

  • Need New CPU

I need to get a new CPU for my computer, was wondering which would be better?
AMD AthlonXP 2600+ with a FSB of 333, 256 cache running at 2.08GHz
    -or-
AMD AthlonXP 2600+ with a FSB of 333, 512 cache running at 1.91GHz
Also when buying a retail box CPU, does the fan come installed or do I have to put it on?
I have a KT4 Ultra, 512MB 333 Ram (and one 512 400 Ram, not sure if I can use them both) and a 350w PSU.

The temps are, when I can get into anything to tell me, in the 50C range. I have not had it running long enough to tell you anthing other than that. The thing will just lock up after about 2 minutes of running. This is the same thing it did on the od AMDXP 2000+ before it went south. And I am not sure it really did die. I am now thinking that I will need to look into getting a new motherboard.
AS far as the ram goes, I have always bben running 333 ram. I have a 512 stick of the 333 and one of 400. The 400 is in a static bag not being used at this point since I am not sure if I want to risk using it underclocked with the stability problems I am have running at the recommended settings.
Glad I got the laptop for christmas!
I thank you, Wonkanoby, for taking your time so far helping me deal with this problem. I hope I can get it solved soon, I need to get my website stuff going again!

  • New Computer for Mainstage

    Hello,
I'm deciding on a new MBP for use with Mainstage.
    13in- 2.53 Processor
    15- 2.53
    15, 2.66
    15, 2.8
    15, 3.06
I like the 13 because its smaller, but I don't want to sacrifice reliability and stability, and quality.
Do I need the extra processing and graphics? Ultimately the 15, 3.06 is the best, especially with the better graphics. But how much of a difference will 470 mhz really make, and the extra graphics memory?
I'm currently using an aging black macbook....
I'm thinking of getting an apogee ONE, I don't do any recording, I just need a good stereo output for live... I only use this for live....
    thoughts? oppions?
    thanks!

I've always found going for the best performance I can afford has been best in the long run. I allowed myself to be talked into buying a MacBook instead of a MacBook Pro some years ago. It took about 18 months before the software, mainly Logic, began to bring it to its knees.
I suppose it is a bit like car engines. Years ago I had a Cortina estate with a 2 litre engine. I found that it was cheaper to run than the the smaller engined version. I got more miles/gallon because the engine was powerful enough to stay in top gear for longer than its smaller sibling. You will find that the MBPs behave in a similar way.

  • Aftermarket CPU cooler to fit P6N Diamond and my new build

Hi, after my motherboard finally quit a couple weeks ago, I am starting to build my new system.  I just purchased a P6N Diamond motherboard and I'll be picking up an E6700 Core 2 Duo and I already know that I am going to overclock slightly.
With the heat pipes this board has, I'm wondering if and if so, what aftermarket CPU cooler will fit on this board.  I'm not going for a major overclock, but I would like to see 3GHz per core or slightly higher.
Also, Does anyone know what speed of RAM I should get to bump this processor up to 3GHz?  On my last setup, I used DDR 434 and ran it at speed to get the processor up from 3.0C to 3.24GHz and 3.4E to 3.67GHz (upgraded at one point).  I am still not sure on what RAM I should use yet for compatibility issues, but I guess I need to figure out the speed first.
I also just ordered my video card today as well.  I went with a EVGA eGeforce 8800GTX Superclocked card.  Later on down the road when the price comes down, I'll pick up another to run SLI.  From what I read on MSI's website, SLI (with the P6N Plat) doesn't support SLI in Vista... Is this true with the board, or will it be a driver/BIOS issue that can be fixed later?
The computer this is replacing is my HTPC.  I used and will again use this thing for just about everything.  I regularly watch movies, record/watch TV, listen to music, play games, etc.  I have it hooked up to a 40" flat panel LCD HDTV and have loved running and HTPC since I bought the TV in December.  Hopefully this next system lives up to what I'm hoping it will be.

The GeminII cooler may not fit. But the Tuniq is also too heavy IMO.
I would pick this; it has good clearance and is one of the best coolers on the market. Except for this obviously.
But it's all down to personal preference.
I really like the Thermalright SI-128 SE that you recommended.  My last Thermalright was able to cool my 3.4E @ 3.7GHz processor down when my old Zalman could not.  Do you know if this will fit?  I'm not sure the larger Thermalright will fit in my case...
Another option I was thinking about is http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118019

  • P6N Diamond New Problem: Second HDD Randomly Starts/Stops Since recent Update

    Howdy All,
Continuing problems with the P5N Diamond.
    This one's new.
Previously I had the same problem as many others with the cold boot issue. Somehow, someway, it just stopped: cold boot or not, one day it just started booting fine....go figure.
However, I recently (about 3 weeks ago) did the MSI live update that included something or other pertaining to the E-SATA....support for it or something to that end. Although I don't use the E-SATA, I installed it thinking I might at some point and since installing it, I have discovered a new problem: my second drives (in RAID 0) just opens/closes randomly. It seems to mostly occur when operating demanding programs: gaming, watching a video, that sort of thing.
Everytime it does this, it takes me to desktop and asks me what program I want to use to open the program......which when I do, is nothing more than my second (D drive) HDDs in RAID 0. I then get the yellow pop up message in the bottom toolbar from Windows saying it's experienced a write failure problem. It hasn't done any damage that I can tell and I've lost nothing, but being taken to desktop perpetually is a major issue. This problem is driving me absolutely up the wall. No sooner than I start to do something and wham.....I'm at desktop being asked what program I want to use to open up the second HDDs. I've also tried just leaving it open but to no avail: it just randomly continues to open and close.
I have my O/S on the C drive and 2 more HDDs in RAID O for back up on ports 6 & 7. Since doing the MSI update that included the E-SATA whatever, this new problem almost prevents the computer from being usable: certainly nothing in gaming is possible along with anything that requires uninterruption.
    Here's my system:
    M/B: P6N Diamond
    CPU: E6850
    RAM: Corsair XMS PC-8500, 2 x 1 gig
    HDD: 1- WD 150 Raptor
    HDD: 2- WD 5000AAKS in Raid 0
    Vid Card: EVGA 8800GTX
PSU: PC Power & Cooling 750 Silencer
    ODD: Sony DRU 830A
    FDD: Sony Floppy
    Misc: Scythe fans x 5
    O/S: XP Pro w/ SP2
    Running BIOS 1.2
So, being fairly certain the MSI update created the problem, my question is, how do I undo the MSI's most recent update to remove it? When I go into Add/Remove Programs, nothing is listed there. I'm not sure this is the source of the problem but I do know I didn't have it beforehand.
I'd greatly appreciate any help with this....even any ideas. While I have some computer knowledge, I'm not as tech savvy as most here, but this problem is, apart from driving me up a wall, making the computer almost unusable. FYI, I haven't done a System Restore because I've installed several things since and don't want to lose them if I can isolate the problem, but I will if that's what you all recommend.
Again, sorry for what may be a noobish question, but I'm not sure where else to go. After dealing with MSI's tech support, I'd rather talk to a wall.
    Thanks greatly.
    Pepper1

    Mark,
Forgive me for asking, but I am a bit confused. Is your "cold boot issue" now solved? If so, do you think that the new drives are the key?

    Sorry for late post.
After setting up the HW RAID (2500YS) for booting the system still cold boots.  strangely this time the reset (Ctrl+Alt+Del) doesn't seem to work.  I must of did it two dozen times and it would never clear.  I then just powered off after the other 2 drives on the nvidia SATA cleared and seen the HD LED light up and stay on for a few seconds(seems stuck on the 4723 checks of the drive) and then powered down and powered right back up with no cold boot issue.  It has worked this way every time for the last week or so and I tested it like 20 or so times(3-4 times a day).  These drives are listed as being compatible after the firmware update (and I did that already) so I guess it is either the MB BIOS needs updating or it's the way the nvidia chipset runs this setup is wacky.  This is assuming the 4723 HD compatibility list is correct.
here's a summary of the drives so far.
36GB Raptors (old revision) - can take forever to boot properly and corrupted my disk in 3 days of testing (scrambled my directory structure)
105GB Raptors - Just reset(Ctrl+Alt+Del) 1-4 times after the HD LED goes solid for a few seconds.  worked for two months no errors.
250GB Caviar RE(2500YS) - have to power off (power button) when HD LED goes solid.  so far no problems for a week.
80 GB SATA II Hitachi Deskstar (HDS728080PLA380 - May 2005) - same as 150 GB Raptors, just a reset or four, only did a days worth of testing with no errors.
well, I was hoping for those 2500YS to work properly.  Now it makes it really hard to track the problems with so many different errors and 3 different places it can go wrong 4723/nvidia/msi/HD Manufacturer.  wait, that's 4.  Oh boy!
Hopefully this gets resolved soon.  I've already had to move this MB to my secondary system, and for other reasons than this.  I didn't mind hitting the reset button to get this to run.  I get the feeling that MSI has abandoned this board on us.  with the new P7N being released it will be even harder to get anyone to mess with this thing.

The P6N Diamond, hard drive, memory, and OS are new.  DVD drive and power supply worked fine in old system (yesterday!).  Clean install of XP MCE on new hard drive.  All MSI drivers installed off CD-ROM.  Ran online updates till all hardware and OS were happy.
I just realized the DVD drive I did all the installs from reads CD's fine but won't read data or video DVD's.  I checked Device Manager and the DVD drive is listed correctly but I noticed the IDE controller is listed as Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller.  It has Microsoft drivers loaded.  Shouldn't the driver be from Nvidia?  It's a stretch but I'm wondering if this could be a driver issue?  I can put the old system back together to verify the optical drive works but it would be a real pain...

I was hoping someone with the same board would look in Device Manager and see what drivers show as installed.  I can find drivers but I believe the P6N has a 680i North bridge with an older South bridge chipset and I'm not sure Nvidia made reference drivers for this combo.  I noticed MSI lists system drivers by North bridge/South bridge combination.
I'll swap drives between a couple of my pc's when I get off work and see if the problem follows the drive or stays with the pc, then I'll probably try reloading drivers.  It's either hardware, drivers, or OS and I really don't look forward hours of updates if I re-install XP.
edit: I got lucky, it was the drive.

  • P6N Diamond & New P/supply..Funny Story

Okay, I had some flashing issues which resulted in me Rma'ing my board and working with a laptop for 2-3 weeks.  I get a "swapped board" from MSI...works great after I straighten out some LGA pins.  I have it set up outside the case cooling with the stock heatsink while I'm waiting for a 600 watt Ultra X3 single rail power supply with flex cables because I'm going to tuck all the cables under and around the motherboard when I install it.  So, I get the power supply, a real beauty, great thin flexible cables/etc.  I spend about 2 1/2 hrs installing the motherboard and my CPU and Northbridge watercoolers and Soutbridge heatsink/fan.  Have all the cables tucked away neatly, the board looks like a poster child for technical college. I fire it up and start to see how far I can overclock it with watercooling, (it only did 3170mhz on air stable)  Within an hour I have it at 3600+mhz and have only increased voltage by .25 v.!
A few minutes into a benchmark, the system shuts down and reboots?  Oops, maybe too high..I reduce the CPU to 3400mhz...run a bench..shuts down and reboots.  What the heck?  I set it to default speed. Several minutes later, it shuts down, and it doesnt reboot..oh my gosh..did I fry this motherboard??  PC wont power up..case lights just blink a tad..cmos reset does nothing.  I check the power to the supply, its ok.  I get my old supply and hook up the motherboard connectors and hit the On button..bingo...PC fires right up!!   The brand new power supply has died after 2 hours of use..LOL!
I almost had a heart attack when it wouldn't start.and it was the new supply that was the problem.  If there's a moral to this story, please let me know what it is...hahaha.

I've had that happen to me before.  I had a 380w psu and decided to overclock my cpu with my already overclocked video card of about 15%.  I  had my cpu overclocked a good 40% when all of a sudden it shut down.  I try to reboot and nothing, just fans spinning and lights glowing.  I reset bios nothing, replace all parts on motherboard 1 by one with same result.  I figure no way it's my psu.  sure enough I put in my spare el cheapo psu and it fires right up.  I started looking up my power draw for my system and I figured I was pulling almost 430watts - lol.  so I learned the hard way, speed kills.
For you though, I'd say the moral of your story would be more of even though you pay big bicks for quality components doesn't mean they won't fail.  every company has lemons roll off the assembly line no matter what.  and from system specs you listed and the psu you have, that psu shouldn't have failed no matter how hard you pushed your system.
btw, I never heard of that psu company before so i looked it up and it seems a good company that is fairly new.  I see lots of good things about them.
Here is a link to a review of your particular psu.

I was especial impressed with those test results considering it's a modular psu.  I also liked those flex cables.  I have big problems with my new Antec P182 case that has the psu at the bottom of the case that is sealed off from the MB area to keep the case ambient temps down a little more for the MB, but the draw back is you need to run the cabling on the back side of the case behind the motherboard and there is not much room.  so the modular cabling will help as well as the flex cable will make it easier to route.  especially the ATX cable.
