DeckLink HD Extreme III HDMI capture

Hi
I wont to use a BlackMagic DeckLink HD Extreme III card in a MacPro using Final Cut Pro 7 to capture a HDMI signal and capture the audio from a separate XLR source. Does anyone know if this is possible please?
Thanks
Paul

well you are shooting JVC's proprietary HDV variant ... if you want to capture the native MPEG-2 transport stream from the camera or deck then you need to capture via firewire. If you capture via component then the camera is decompressing the video data and sending that decompressed data down the wires to your Decklink where it is being recompressed to the target codec ... you might set the target codec to the same HDV variant that you shot but in capturing it as such you have pushed the signal through a full recompression cycle.
if you've had troubles with capture of the JVC originated footage then you might find good info here:

  • Capture with Decklink HD Extreme HD 720p25 - correct settings?

    Hello!
I want to capture footage from JVC HD 720p25 over composite connection with my Decklink HD Extreme.
I use Final Cut Pro 6.0.4
I want to capture it with the original HD 720p25 compression or a other simular quality compression.
Please give me the right preset! I find only this preset : Blackmagic HDTV 720p50 JPEG!??
    A second question:
Do you think that I`m on the right way, when I want to capture over composite?
...or should I capture over firewire??
But I hope I will have a advantage with my decklink!?
    Thanx for your help

  • Decklink Intensity Extreme and After Effects CC 2014 playback

I can't get any output on  Decklink Intensity Extreme using After Effects 2014 using 'Mercury Transmit'. Whatever comp setting I choose, my monitor reports back that the input signal isn't supported. In CC everything worked fine, but the new Preview Engine doesn't seem to play nice with my monitor...
Did an 'Uninstall', reboot, Install, reboot of the Desktop Video Installer 10.1.2, but nothing seems to help.
Anybody else got this combination working?
    Cheers,

    Hi Kevin,
If you haven't already, I recommend you contact technical support. The problem you're encountering is different than what we've seen before, and you'll be better off talking with somebody one-on-one to troubleshoot.
That said, I have a couple of thoughts. My gut reaction is that this problem is not directly related to Adobe QT32 Server, something in the underlying QuickTime infrastructure is probably failing.
The diagnostic report (thanks for posting!) shows the last thing QT32 Server tries to do is get the list of audio codecs available through QuickTime. While loading those, something is failing and causing the crash.
The fact that QuickTime 7.x Player is also giving issues is key evidence that the problem is not application-specific. I would bet that other QuickTime-dependent applications may also fail on your computer.
At a minimum I would recommend removing all component files from the Library/QuickTime folder. Since this appears to be audio related, I would next uninstall any audio drivers on your system, including those for capture cards.
Sorry I can't be of more direct assistance here. Troubleshooting remotely is always a bit of digging around in the dark.

  • HDMI capture card for my Power mac G5

I was wondering if anyone knew if there is a HDMI capture card that could be used in a non-intel G5? or capture via the ethernet port using a HDMI Ethernet extender? I would like to capture uncompress HD footage from my camera.
    My system: 1.8 GHZ DP / PCI - x / 2GB 400 / 160GB / SD / G5200 / 56k
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

No, there is not. HDMI options on capture cards didn't arrive until after MacPros were released and G5s were discontinued. The only capture cards that work on G5's do not offer HDMI inputs. The Intensity series are PCIe only...AJA Kona line with HDMI are PCIe only....Matrox MXO2 line are PCIe and Express34 only. And your G5 has PCI-X slots.
The AJA Kona 2, Kona LH, Decklink HD cards...things you can only find second hand...do not offer HDMI inputs. You are on a machine that was discontinued 4 years ago, HDMI support was not invented yet.

  • HDMI capture card for a Power PC G5

    Hi,
I was wondering if anyone knew if there was a card HDMI capture card that could be used in a non-intel G5?
If not, is there anyway I could use a HDMI to fire wire adapter and use the existing firewire port etc without degrading the HD signal? or capture via the ethernet port using a HDMI Ethernet extender?
Any thoughts or real world experience would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Dame Hyndman

I apologize - I thought it was the Studio card that had official G5 support, but when I re-read the specs page, it looks like it is only the HD Extreme card is the only supported card in the G5.
That being said, I was also told by BlackMagic that the Intensity wouldn't work in the G5 either (although they declined to elaborate as to why), but it does work and every driver release has been Universal. Like I said in my original post, I believe that the card is the source of some system instability, but if you're not doing capture very frequently, then you can remove the card when you're not going to be using it (which is what I do sometimes). I've only used the Intensity Pro to capture from S-video sources, but it works fine and the video output to a monitor also works as well.
I have no information for you on converting HDMI to DVI or ethernet. Might want to ask in the Final Cut forum.

  • Can't playback on Blackmagic Decklink HD extreme 2

    Hi all,
I am looking to crossgrade from FCP7 to Premiere CS6 so I have the Master Collection Demo installed on my work station along with FCP. It's on a 2008 Mac Pro with 2 Quad core 3.2G Intel Xeons, 16GB ram, ATi 2600 HD 250mb graphics and a Blackmagic Decklink  HD Extreme 2. In the FCP set up this card fed a full HD JVC broadcast monitor via HD-SDI and I had no trouble with it at all and it played any type of sequence. My problem is that I can't for the life of me get a picture on the screen in Premiere. No combination of BM sequence settings or codecs, either BM or otherwise, seem to get it going. Output options seem extremely limited in the application set up with only one box to tick under the playback menu. This seems to have no effect whatsoever. The aplication can obviously see the card because the option to check it as a playback is there and the audio routes through without error. I have installed the latest Premiere updates and am running Desktop video 9.6. AE plays on the monitor fine but nothing in Premiere unless I switch the BM card to extended desktop and use the broadcast monitor as a second LCD and tick that option under the playback menu but then my GFX card seems to struggle and drops frames all over the place. I admit the ATI card is a bit of a slouch but options were limited for Mac unless you want the high end cards, which I am considering, could the fact the card is under powered have anything to do with video not getting to the BM card. I don't know much about the MPBE apart from the fact my card doesn't qualify.
Any ideas on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated.
Apart from no client monitor I'm loving Premiere, I'm finding th realtime stuff quite refreshing after FCP, which was a bit of a joke really in that area...but if I can't monitor, I can't make the switch.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
You don't need to use the blackmagic presets to play back through your card. What are your settings under preferences>general?playback?  You might want to try uninstallig the blackmagic presets and installing the latest Deskstop from BM. The uninstall option will be available when you download BM Desktop from their support site.  Having the latest version isn't what is important but uninstalling is.
    Cheers,
    Gerry

  • Playback Issues with multiple framerates and Blackmagic Decklink 4K Extreme

I recently swapped by AJA Kona Card for a Blackmagic Decklink 4K Extreme in order to get external monitoring in DaVinci Resolve.
I'm working in a 1080p 23.976 project that includes some 29.97 SD and HD footage. When loading this 29.97fps footage into my source footage, I periodically encounter frozen playback (The play triangle in my toolbar becomes a square symbol and remains that way). From there I am unable to playback any footage in any timeline, and requires a full system shutdown to return to normal! The problem is seemingly intermitent, with successful playback happening sometimes.
The 29.97 footage was DVCPRO, I attempted to transcode to Prores to troubleshoot. No dice. I believe it to be an issue related to the Decklink's inability to handle multiple framerates on-the-fly but wanted to submit here, too. I've also experienced intermittent sync delays on my broadcast monitor.

    Premiere CC 7.2.1
Mac OSX 10.9.2 (same problem pre-mavericks)

    Hi Andy,
You should not have any issues with Blackmagic handling multiple formats on the fly. However, I believe the frozen playback issues your describing is related to the Desktop Video 10 driver. I suggest rolling back to 9.3.3 for the time being. Blackmagic is looking into this issue now.

  • Consistently crashing with 12GB Sandisk Extreme III

    Hello,
I'm having a real frustrating problem with my 12gb sandisk card. When I have Lightroom open and mount the card Lightroom will immediately lock up.
I can insert my other cards and they work fine (sandisk extreme III 2gb, sandisk ultra II 1gb)
Any idea why this is happening? And is there a way to stop it?
I am looking for a solution beyond what i've done up to this point, which is to close LR, dump the card to my desktop, then import the photos from there. It's kind of a head-ache/time-waster, and would like to figure out what's really going on.
    HELP! and thanks,
    -kyle

If LR crashes while in the middle of an import from the card, you will quite likely loose some data.
Perhaps you had a bad experience, but I would not expect a loss of any data caused by LR crashing during import--certainly not a "quite likely" loss.  BTW, I assume you're referring to a loss of data (corruption) on the card itself.

  • CF Adapter for x61 (Sandisk 4gb Extreme III)

I wish to use install a compact flash adapter on my x61 for downloading photographs.  I have had no success in locating any which will work with my Sandisk 4gb Extreme III Compact Flash drives.
I have a functional USB adapter, but want a solution that is compact and more efficient for travel purposes -- something like a PCMCIA card (which can be inserted internally).
In fact, I have been unable to determine what is the actual type of the PCMCIA look-a-like slot on left side of my x61.
I will be grateful if anyone is able to assist with answers to either of these questions.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

PCMCIA is actually pretty slow with compactflash cards like the extreme III.   instead look for a cardbus to CF adapter.   you'll get about 3~4x faster transfer speeds over PCMCIA (roughly 12 MB/sec vs. 3~4 MB/sec).
fwiw, an external USB CF reader will transfer at around 15~17 MB/sec.
i've personally tested all of the above using sandisk extreme III and extreme IV CF cards.   i gave up shooting film about six years ago.

  • SanDisk Extreme III Compatibility?

I have a pre-Unibody 17" MBP (10.5.7) with a Sonnet Express Card SD reader. All my other cards appear on the desktop and in my sidebar, but the two new SanDisk Extreme III 2 GB cards do not. They are connected, they appear in Adobe Bridge, but I cannot see the icon anywhere to eject it properly.
    Suggestions??

I do have a question in to SanDisk, figured this would generate some right answers faster! This morning one of the cards appeared in the very center of my desktop- but it certainly didn't appear in my sidebar. Strange.
All my other cards appear normally- both on the desktop and in the sidebar- 2GB SanDisk Ultra II and Kodak cards- it is just these two new ones. Same camera, same reader.

I have premiere pro CS6 and a blackmagic intensitiy pro HDMI capture card will I be able to capture HD TV progrsms if I have a HDCP compliant monitor?

    No.
As soon as you connect the HDMI cable from your cable box to the BM card it will be seen as non-HDCP compliant.

  • Expansion Slot Utility not detecting DeckLink HD Extreme Card

I just installed a DeckLink HD Extreme card in my Mac Pro today including all of the software and drivers. When I went into the Expansion Slot Utility it showed up but said the card was running below the maximum supported speed. So I picked a configuration that would work best for the cards that are in the machine. After restarting and opening the Expansion Slot Utility the card was no longer being detected. I even tried going back to the old configuration uninstalling and reinstalling the software and still it was not detected. Any help would be much appreciated.

Leopard and 2008 don't need or support the utility. The slots are fixed to begin with. Only the 1st gen Mac Pro needed it.
