DeckLink SDI...Problem?

Here is my setup:
MAC PRO duel 8 core latest OS
BM DeckLink SDI
BM ATEM 1 Broadcaster
BM HyperDeck Studio
Sony HDCam 1080i 60fps
Here is the deal, wanting to live switch multi cameras and stream plus archive H264. Files for Vimeo...
But the problem right now is I cannot record the H264. File is always corrupt. Never had a problem going FireWire, but once we added the SDI capture card we started having these issues... All drivers are current on the card and we are using FLME Ver 3.2.1
Any ideas or pointers that I might be overlooking?
Thanks

SDI - is a high end standard for digital signal transmission. Monitors that can take it in directly are usually at the very high end. I'm not sure you understand how this works, as you're saying that the "computer" doesn't know you have a second monitor. How would it know? These are not desktop monitors. They are accessible in the Decklink software and thru their drivers in Motion/FCP, and other editing software.
If you don't have an SDI capable monitor/deck, this card will be useless to you. If all you intend is monitoring your FCP/Color output, you might be much happier with a Decklink Intensity Pro:

It has component out as well as HDMI connections.

  • Two BlackMagic DeckLink SDI Cards in FMLE

Is it possible to run two BlackMagic DeckLink SDI cards in two separate instances of Flash Media Live Encoder?
I can run one fine, but if I try to select the other, even if card # 1 [Decklink Video Capture in FMLE] is not in use, card #2 [Decklink Video Capture (2) in FMLE] only shows black. I have verified that video signal is working. Finally I installed Wirecast Demo to test if it was software and sure enough it works fine in Wirecast, each card shows the video fine.
I contacted BlackMagic and they stated it was the software. I have successfully done this with Viewcast Cards but now that we went HD BlackMagic are cheaper, but so far no luck in FMLE.
I would appreciate any isnight on this issue.
    Thank you!
    -Nate

    Hi Pi,
Did you manage to resolve the problem? We're having similar issue. BM Media Express software recognises the card, but FMLE just reports it as Decklink and gives a blank input display. Any attempt to change settings causes FMLE to crash.
    Thanks,

  • DeckLink SDI card & FCP & Wireless - no no!

    Hi All
I purchased a DeckLink SDI card so I could connect my SDI studio monitor for preview. I also have a wireless (new magic mouse) mouse. After the card was installed my mouse started acting up and finally quit working.
After a phone call to Apple Care and 2 trips to the Apple store lugging my Mac Pro, we found out that it was the card that was somehow affecting the bluetooth. The Apple Genius was about ready to order a new Bluetooth card. We had the card on slot 2 first then tried it on slot 4 as Blackmagic recommended. As a last resort we pulled the card out and WALA! the mouse started working fine again.
I called Blackmagic Design and while the support guy was interested in the case offered no suggestions or help. He told me that was the first time he's come across this; but was going to send in the report.
So what do I do? Space on my desk is limited and wired mice are cumbersome. He suggested that I use a wired mouse and hopefully I'd hear from them. Nope! I got 14 days to return the card to B&H. Blackmagic didn't even want the card or offer to swap it out.
Has anyone experience this besides me? Bad card or flaw? I didn't want to be stuck with a $265 card I can't use.
So now back to the drawing board. All I want to do is connect my HD studio monitor to the Mac Pro. I don't need a $1000+ do everything card.
    Just a 'heads-up".
    Allen

For having a low signal, consider the distance of the pc from the router. And regarding the internet connection, I believe you haven't configured it yet that's why it's not giving you an accesss to the internet.

  • No input with Blackmagic Decklink SDI 9.7.7 and Adobe Premiere

    Hi there
My BM Decklink is properly installed: I can grab Video with the BM Software.
In Adobe Premiere there is no signal. The TC is ok and running.
All Settings seems to be ok.
    I'm running a Windows7/64 Bit
    Thank for your help.

Yes, its an HD sequence, I want to view it in component but I'm using a SDI-Monitor also (which strangely gets an audio signal, but still no video)
I can't find anything like that in the 'Select output processing'-box, even after updating to 9.7.8 (released on Friday)...
It doesn't make any sense to me. Why would it work with AE and BM Media Express but not with Premiere CC?
My BM Decklink is not the newest model, but I don't think thats the problem.
It still seems to be supported by the software and it works with AE.
I'm going to change my graphic card from GTX 780 to NVIDIA quadro, lets see whether that will get me the result I'm hoping for, but tbh I'm giving up...

  • Blackmagic Decklink audio problems

I've got two macs exhibiting identical problems. The decklink card will not play out audio unless FCP is running and in the foreground. For example, I can play a song in itunes and I hear nothing. If I cmd-tab to FCP, then I can hear the song. The same goes for all applications except for FCP (Safari, Soundtrack Pro, DVD player, etc).
Settings are correct in System Prefs: all audio plays out of Decklink Audio.
I am currently using driver 6.6.2 for the decklink, but I downgraded to 6.1 and nothing changed. (And then upgraded back)
    Mac Pro 2 x 2.66
    4GB RAM
    Decklink Pro HD (Dual Link)
    OS X 10.4.11
    FCP 6.0.2
All updates current except QT 7.3.1
These are new builds with the Decklink cards, so the audio problem has always existed in these two Mac Pros.
Anybody out there run into a similar problem?

Sounds like you've done all the right things, so one would assume the Decklink would work for audio playback of other than FCP projects. I'd suggest you post this in the Decklink forum at http://www.creativecow.net
There are a LOT of Decklink users there, and maybe there's a fix for you.

  • Final cut alpha through SDI problem

How to get Alpha chanel through SDI with Final CUt and AJA cona 3. All my AJA settings show me that SDI video and Alpha chanel are corect but I can`t see any alpha.

I think the problem lies with the Firewire 800 connection. I was cutting a 4 angle music video last week with the source media (DV NTSC) residing on a 500GB G-Raid connected via Firewire 800. When playing back with open sync and the 4-up display in the viewer, I was experiencing the same jerkiness.
I then copied that project to our XSAN and with the increase in available bandwidth over the fibre connection, playback was smooth.
If you have room on a secondary internal drive, you might want to try moving the project there.

  • Cant get 50fps with decklink SDI in FLME

    Hello and good morning
I cant get 50fps in FLME setting while already select 720p 50fps as source. Im using PAL camera so that my camera can only output 50fps... 25fps work fine if i set my camera to 1080i 25fps. But this setting not available when connecting to my Mixer. So in conclusion i really need to stream 720p 50fps.
    any idea??

FMLE do not support 720p/50 video capture. Only somehow (i'm using blackmagic updowncross or out feed from AJA KiPro) upconvert to 1080i/50 and than 1080/25 setting will bring video to it. And you have to set "deinterlace".

  • Problems capture with decklink

    Hi All,
    I have a problem in captured files with Premiere CS4 and CS5 with BlackMagic Decklink;
The problem is ever present but sometime is more visible sometime less, it seems like a grid over the movie where the colors degrades, with regular step (arround 8x8 pixerl grid).
Now I am capturing in DV-SD PAL format (from an SDI source), capturing in DVCPro or Uncompressed the problem is quite invisible.
I tryed to change a lot of Decklink devices (also device version) and a lot of drivers version, but the problem still be..
Have you some idea? what may I check?
    Thank you in advance
(Try to see the problem in the attached file)
    Christian

    Thanx Roger,
but I saw the grid over the Clip also when played with WMPlayer or other...
on the next days I will post other screenshot with various test in different
software...but I am sure that the problem is printed on files, when I try to
playout these clips the problem is still present, and whether the clip is
16:9 it generate other visual mistakes like black random blinking area (8x8)
    arround the screen...
So thank you, I hope you will be so kind to se my next post with other
    example..
    Bye

I see the same thing with any SD material, captured via a Decklink card or
captured directly from a DV-deck/camera FireWire.
    >
AFAIK, it has to do with how Pr renders the video for the Source/Program
panels and the captured video and the exported video looks perfect when
watched outside Pr CS4/CS5. Playback the footage in Blackmagic Media Express
to see if you see any difference, or export a still image from the
Source/Program panel and open it either Photoshop or MS Paint to see how it
looks, IE if the grid is still present or not. How does the footage looks on
your preview monitor attached to the Decklink card?
    >
I saw this issue for the first time in CS4. DV footage with stage lights in
it can look really wierd in CS4 and CS5. DV footage with lots of blue skies
in the frame looks really wierd.

So, i am pretty sure that there is nothing wrong with your card.

  • CS5 DV capture/playback problems  "Feel like I am hitting my head on a wall"

Ok, I am still trying to get our commercial production editor working as intended so our creative services person can make the full switch to the new machine.  Right now he is half editing on his 7 year old Pinnacle Liquid system that is dying.  My fear is a Hard drive will fail again in that old thing and he won't be ready to fully edit on this New system...
Up till now in my other posts I have had issues with Playback and capture problems with a Blackmagic SDI card.  Not sure if it is incompatibility with my motherboard or lack of support from Blackmagic but playback was dropping frames if we used GPU acceleration. We also had the problems of pixel shift when doing dissolves on the timeline that are documented on Creative Cow as an ongoing problem that Blackmagic seems unwilling to fix. Also had problems with long format captures....
My system is currently as follows:
    Asus P6T7 Supercomputer
    i7-950 CPU
    12 GB memory tripple channel
500 GB 7200 RPM boot drive
3 1 TB drives in a Raid 5 (2 TB usable space) for scratch  (originally had 4 1 TB in Raid 0, one died and is out for warranty)
Out of frustration with the blackmagic card, and the fact that we are only editing to/from DVCAM SD, I decided to pull the card and go to a simple FireWire setup as that is what our newsrooms use to DSR-11 and DSR-25 decks.
Because This editor uses a DSR-1800 full size deck and was always tied to the Pinnacle via SDI/AES, I wanted to stay in that format. This was why I chose the Decklink SDI in the first place.
I picked up a used Firewire card for the DSR-1800. ($299 off of e-bay, originally a $1500 card)
I figured if this worked I could sell the Decklink SDI and be about even.
Now with the Decklink uninstalled and the firewire card connected, we are having new problems...
The capture from DV works as normal, but when you hit stop on a capture there is a very long delay.. 20 seconds to 3-5 minutes before premiere will pop up the "name this clip"...  this does not happen on the DSR-11/25 decks in news.(they are much slower AMD Phenome II systems with 4 GB memory)
When I playback to the DSR-1800, it takes the deck 10-20 seconds to switch back to the iLink input.  He switches the deck back and forth to other inputs for dub over from DVD and when he edits on the Liquid system.  once it switches it plays fine....
Has anyone have experience editing from a DSR-1800 over firewire?  I knew the option was there but have no experience using this setup.
I don't have any idea what would cause the major delay from the time we hit stop on a capture.  No frames are dropped in the capture window and everything else seems to be working fine.  We are not using deck control just clicking record and play on the deck and then stopping the capture when we are done.
The other problem, I wanted him to be able to use the $1600 Quadro 4800 video card so all renders would be quick and he would not have to wait like he did on the liquid system (everything rendered...)
The blackmagic Decklink SDI would drop frames playing out SD-SDI.  I know SD-SDI is uncompressed format and I guess the issue could be just not enough disk speed to feed that output or there is a bottleneck in the PCIe buss.  But now I found that DV does not allow GPU either, so he can't play the timeline with the GPU acceleration on at all.  What a waste of $1600 on that video card if he can never use it!!!!!!
So as you can see I feel stuck.  Can't seem to get any answers from Adobe or Blackmagic.  now the budget has been slashed for this year and there is probably no chance I can try new hardware on anything...
At this point I may switch back to the Decklink card and add another hard drive to put the windows page file on. Harm has said load balancing across the system will speed things up.
My OS disk is much slower as a single 500 GB than the raid 0 was when I used the disk speed test.  Sorry for such a long post but more information should help people know all I am dealing with..
    Thank you,
    Mark

Darren, I did run that test when we were using the 4TB Raid 0 for Scratch.  The raid was much faster than the boot drive.  I also found that he had some files on the C: drive.  He has a Share on there with Photo's and logo's he works on in Photoshop.
I am wondering if I should have two Raids.  One Raid 0 with two 250 GB drives for Boot, and then Raid 5 for the other three 1TB drives giving a 2 TB Scratch.   That way there is some redundancy for scratch material. Only problem with that plan is if either Raid0 drive fails I lose the OS/installation...
Probably follow Harm's Drive setup advice and put the OS on 1 drive and have the Raid 5 for the others but move the Page file to either another spare drive or the Raid 5 array.
I also think his Media Cache is in the default space(hidden in common files under the user on the C: drive) knowing that is all the conforming audio files and such, it is probably causing the dropped frames when playing through the SDI out with GPU acceleration.  GPU off and rendering always worked other than the shift of a frame when doing dissolves.
I think that with optimising the services through Win7 and turning off anything we don't need.
We are on a Domain and that automatically installs the Enterprise Antivirus. Does that cause problems?  Also he runs as a user, should running as an Admin be a must?  The main reason it is on the Domain is so he can have his e-mail accessible but that is not a big issue.  What do you recommend?
I can remove from the Domain and have this a stand alone machine if that will allow me to turn off more stuff, and stop the anti-virus from running realtime scanning. Is there an antivirus you recommend? I usually like AVG free or Avast, and with these you can turn off the realtime and only have them run while at night when the system is not being used.

  • Capturing device offline with BlackMagic DeckLink Quad

    Hi guys,
I have a problem capturing with a BlackMagic DeckLink Quad and Premiere Pro CS6. Capturing with the Blackmagic included Media Express software works fine.  However, Premiere Pro tells me that my capturing device is offline.
What I did to run the capture:
    Open Premiere Pro CS6
New project --> set capture to Blackmagic capture --> press ok
New sequence dialog --> select format exactly like specified in system control panel of BlackMagic (1080 25p).
Open capture dialog with F5 key.
Tells me that the capturing device is offline.
Controlling capturing properties for Blackmagic Capture and ensuring that they match the system control panel specs  and the specs used in the other software(1080 25p, Video Format: Motion JPEG)
Final State --> Premiere Pro still tells me that the capturing device is offline and I have a black window.
I read somewhere that the installation order of driver and Premiere Pro is important, therefore I tried already both constalations (Driver, Premiere Pro - Premiere Pro, Driver ) without any success. A driver update of the Declink Quad did not have any effect.
    Driver version:
Blackmagic DeckLink SDI - Date: 22.01.2015 Version: 13.4.10.868
Any help would be highly appreciated.

Yes, Component is indeed not a better quality... Interesting because I did plug into a flatscreen, and I have nothing as well... So maybe it is the component out of the z1u that is not even working! Will try with another cable in case, but that may be the answer... Thank you for pointing that out! didn't even think about it...
I'm really trying to capture old HDV tapes, and always get those phantom breaks with Firewire (using another deck since it's broken on the z1u), now I'm wondering if you get less breaks doing 1080i or ProRes?? Although files are way bigger.

  • Acrobat 9: IAC window problem when opening a pdf

    Hello,
I got a C# program , which can iterate over a number of pdf files in a directory. I used the following code for the first document:
    CAcroApp AcrobatApp = new AcroAppClass();
    AVDoc = new AcroAVDocClass();
    AVDoc.Open(filename1,"");
    AcrobatApp.Show();
So far so good. Acrobat starts and shows the loaded document. The Code for stepping to the next document is:
    AVDoc.Close(0)
    AVDoc.Open(filename2,"");
The document is closed and the empty Acrobat window stays (same as if you open a PDF in Acrobat 9 and then select "File|Close" from the menu). Instead of using this empty frame the next "AVDoc.Open.." a new window is created for the next document.
Can I somehow tell Acrobat to open the new document in the "empty" Acrobat window instead of opening a new one?
(Might be a SDI problem of Acrobat 9, since the code worked well for all older versions of Acrobat using the MDI interface)
    Thanks a lot,
    René

  • Can't lower framerate with Blackmagic Decklink

We have FME3 and a Blackmagic Decklink SDI 10bit, drivers v6.6.  We would like to stream at 15fps, but in FME, I can't set the framerate to anything lower than 25.  When choosing 15, it just jumps to 25.
Also tried changing it in the card's system driver - which I can - but then when I load up FME, its clearly still running at 29.97, and I still can't change to 15.
    Any thoughts?

FMLE supports only those FPS that are supported by device.
In this case device is giving fixed FPS which is 29.97 irrespective of value selected in FMLE. You are sometimes getting 25 FPS because of unavailabity of enough CPU to encode 29 frames per second.
The only workaround in order to get 15 FPS output is to load your CPU or Increase Video frame size so that some of the frames get dropped by FMLE because of unavailablity of CPU and effective output FPS drops to 15.

  • Broadcast monitor via DeckLink

I use a double monitor system 19" and 24". I also have a broadcast monitor when grading in Final Cut Pro connected via a DeckLink SDI card. Is there a way to connect this third PAL monitor to Shake without loosing the other two computer monitors?

    In the Decklink control panel...
